Tables :: Lookups Displaying AutoNumber Instead Of Field Name
Oct 21, 2012
I have 3 tables: [SurveyVendor], [Surveys] and [SurveyResults]
SurveyVendor has 2 fields:
[VendorID] - PK
[VendorName]
Surveys has 3 fields:
[SurveyID] - PK
[VendorName] - FK
[SurveyName]
SurveyResults has 3 fields:
[SurveyResultID] - PK
[SurveyName] - FK
[SurveyQuantity]
I used the LookUp wizard to establish the relationships, and I chose to include 3 fields when linking [SurveyResults].[SurveyName] to [Surveys].[SurveyID]. I'd like the ID, Survey Name and Vendor Name to be displayed when making a choice in the combo box. And I would like the column to only display the SurveyName.
However, what's happening is the VendorID shows up instead of the VendorName when I click the combo box for [SurveyName]. And the SurveyID shows up in the column results, rather than the Survey Name.
I have one attribute in the table and the table is normalized. But we have the same attribute in two different forms, one with a table lookup and the other with a free form text input. I'm trying to rationalize this for a dashboard output.
Do I keep it as one attribute or do I make 2 - one for the table lookup and 1 for the free form input? What are the pros and cons of each?
Can someone please tell me if there is a way to perform lookups in Excel from an Access table without first exporting the data into Excel? I have a form that is being exported into Excel from a pricing tool our company uses from an outside vendor. It is important the users have the ability to perform complicated calculations and are not at all experienced in Access. There are several data sources that are well over the 65,000+ rows limited by Excel. I need to either prove or disprove whether it is possible to perform lookups between Office applications. If it is possible to lookup between applications, I would appreciate any sources known to learn how to do this. If not possible, I would like to be able to confirm that fact to my manager.
We have our access database with a bit of a messy structure?
We use our database to record sizes of our product. I am hoping to improve it by adding the items we have in stock to prevent manufacturing more.
Basically our main database called "Make & Model 1" has a list of various makes and model numbers, each model number lists various information needed to manufacture a replacement part.
Customers order the part and these part details are entered into a table called "Order Detail" What I would like to happen is that when the details are entered a calculated field adds the data entered to a text string. I need to match the text string to the same text string in a table called "stock" as there could be one part that matches hundreds of models.
Basically the "profile" "Colour" "height" and "width" make the string and this is what I need to match and tick a box / populate the number of items in stock. Eventually I would like this to reduce by the amount ordered but lets do one step at a time.
I have a table with an autonumber field, which of course is indexed with no duplicates. Twice in recent days it has attempted to add a record with an autonumber that is not the high number - it is about 20 numbers below the high number. So we get a 'can't add this record' error.
I can fix this by copying the table to a temporary table and then copying it it back. Then the autonumber works correctly.
What can I do to prevent this? By the way we updated to Access 2010 a couple of weeks ago, but the data is still Access 2003. We are reluctant to update the data yet in case it causes more problems.
I created a database with 10 tables and 8 relationships. Then, I learned about the Autonumber field type and decided that I wanted that to be the primary key of one of my existing tables, for a field that was already linked to 2 other tables. I had to delete the relationships and the original field to make the change, and Access said it had to delete an index, too. Now, Access won't allow me to re-establish those relationships.
I found that I had to change the fields in the other tables to match the Autonumber type and name of the original field, but now I am getting an error message stating, "Invalid field definition 'CustomerID' in definition of index or relationship. What does that mean? The field types and names are all the same.
Table 1 (StaffID) - contains all personal details in the form of forename + surname + position + email + contact numbers ect. Each field/person has an autonumber.
Table 2 (StaffTrainingID) - contains all mandatory training/lectures (18 fields in total). I don't wish to list each staff member again in table 2 so have put a StaffID field in (data type is number).
However, when I try to type in the StaffID number in that field so I can link that person to the relevant training he/she has taken, Access won't allow it.
When I tried paste some data using front end to my database, Access showed error (can't create record because data would be duplicated). I thought it's impossible because it is autonumber field. So I checked it (manually). I did copy of my database and then for testing, I created record. I was shocked. Next record should has a value of "160" but Access gave "130" then showed an error "Can't create record because data will be duplicated". Of course after compact and repair everything is fine.
I created a table in a budget database without a autonumber field. I then inserted a autonumber field after creating the form by inserting a row in the table which works fine in the table, now i want to use a text box on the form with BudgetID from the autonumber field to give me the total amount of records in the database but the autonumber field is not in the record source dropdown.
I have two tables linked to each other in one to many relationship. Instead of auto number, the date and shift (Text) is being used as the primary keys (Composite Primary Key). Here is the tables structures,
The tables Payouts and Bills has one to many relationship. One payout row can have many bills. The problem is that I want to start the Autonumber in bills table everyday from 1. As date and shift are different for every day so even if i start bills from 1 everyday, it wont make same primary key. I can do it manually but I want to make it automatically.
Hi, sorry if this has been covered before, I am a new guy around here.
I have two tables in a select query, both with a code field and a monetary value field. The codes are linked. This query is to show the variances in the values of each table as they are meant to have identical codes and values. However, each table has a small handful of codes that are not in the other, but all the query outputs is the variances for codes that are in "both" tables. I realise you can do one way relationships so that you can display all from one table and only those matching from another. However I need the query to show "all" the codes from both tables, and the value difference.
Any advice on going about this? Would be much appreciated! Thanks. :)
I have a MAIN table with autonumbering for the project number. In a table related to the MAIN table I have a project number that I want to be updated when the MAIN table has a new project entered. Can I keep these in sinc automatically?
I need to create a table with 2 sets of different information both referring to job types. the problem is that i need the autonumber which created the job number to scale together. so both tables have a primary key of "job number" and i want the autonumber to only ever use 1 number in both tables.
e.g.
job type 1 - autonumbers - 1,2,3,4,6,7,9,10 job type 2 - autonumbers - 5,8,11,12
I am trying to develop a database for recording project risks and issues and need to assign an owner to each one. My design stage has three tables for project resources, issues and risks. The Resource table is basically ResourceID; Surname; Forename, GivenName (forename and surname concatenated) Status; Role and DateAdded. When I allocate a risk or issue I want to be able to select the ResourceID from a drop down list that references the Resource table (I have got this working) and then from that ResourceID value to automatically populate another field with the matching GivenName and that is where I am getting stuck. I have setup relationships between the tables based on ResourceID but can't see where I need to be with a query to do this. Someone a suggetsed a union query but not sure of the syntax for this. I know I could have a separate lookup for the GivenName but that invites data capture error and requires the user to undertake an extra input step that could be avoided with a bit of slick programming.
Hopefully the above provides enough information to identify the problem and possible solution - any help on this appreciated.
I am a total newbie and possibly in over my head already.
I have 2 tables:
tblEmployees ..EmployeeID autonumber PK ..FirstName text ..LastName text ..DepartmentID number ..HourlyRate currency
tblDepartments ..DepartmentID autonumber PK ..DepartmentName text
Many-to-one relationship tblEmployees to tblDepartments
I need to create a form to enter employees in tblEmployees.
FirstName, LastName, HourlyRate are all straightforward. I'm stuck (probably a HUGE mental block!) on how to get the DepartmentName into the tblEmployees from the input in the form.
OK, My main table has an autonumber field in it to make records unique.
At the moment, the number 5-34 are all in use on active records. But when I create a new record either in the front end form, or the back end directly in the table, it attempts to start the record off with an already existing number.
No idea why this is doing this at all.
Is it possible to reset the autonumber to say 50 so all new records start at 50, then 51 etc.
I really dont want to lose the numbers already assigned, as there are other tables that rely on that autonumber as the clients ID to record all the other data.
Its probably something very simple, but I cant carry on with my data entry at the moment.
I have a combo box with a list of names in, and a table for each of those people.
When one of these names is selected, i want the contents of the corresponding table to display in a form. Easy Enough.
But...how do I get these tables displaying in one form depending on which name is selected, to save me having 7 copies of the same form just with different sources. All the field names are the same.
One solution I thought of is to put all the data in one table, but would really rather keep it separate.
I made a simple access project and I want to make a count for my visits, this counter MUST starts from one each morning "every new day", I use autonumber field to give each visit its unique code, I'm ok with that, but i need additional counter that resets each new day,, i watched some videos for making the autonumber starts from different number like 1000 for example using Append query but i didn't figure out how to use this method for resetting counter everyday.
