Tables :: Limit Attachment Size And File Type To JPG

Aug 8, 2013

I have a field in my database (I'm using Access 2007) configured as Attachment under the DataType column on DesignView.

I was expecting to find an option to limit the attachment size (max 250Kb) and more importantly to limit the filetype you can actually upload. In my specific case only jpg should be attached.

Tables :: Attachment Field With No Subfields

Feb 11, 2015

I wanted to add a field of " Attachment" to an existing table an as usual, I entered field name " Attach" and the Data Type , I chose "Attachment". Then saved.

Checked with the Datasheet view, there it is, tried to click on the field , the dialog box appeared. cool

The strange part is when I want to put an attachment field in a form , there were no sub fields only one word "Attachment", there is no + or - .

I tried to add the field to the form so I can add attachments, but it stayed there like a normal field.

why my attachment field do not carry the sub fields of attachment like attachment-FileData, attachment-FileType and attachment -File Name.

Append Tables With Attachment Field

Sep 21, 2013

I have two databases that I need to merge into one. The structure of each DB is identical, however the data is different. My original thought was to import all the tables into one DB, then use Append queries to merge the similar tables. The problem is that the main table in each DB has an Attachment field (using the Attachment data-type). After doing some research, it seems that you cannot use an Append query that references a table that contains a multivalued field (such as the Attachment data-type).

Every record has at least one attachment stored in this field, so removing the Attachment field is not possible. So my question is, if I have two identical tables, each with an Attachment field, how can I combine them into one table?

The only idea I had was to write a VBA procedure that would loop through all the records in the main table and save each attachment in a folder outside the DB, then delete the attachments. I could then merge the two tables using an Append query. Finally, I would run another VBA procedure that would load each saved file back to the appropriate record in the DB. The procedure that saves the attachments would have to write the primary key for the record they were attached to in the filename (or create a new sub-folder that is named with the primary key value), then the procedure that loads the files could read that value from the file or folder name and know which record to attach the file to.

Tables :: Splitting Attachment Field From Table

Jul 4, 2013

I have a database composed of personal statistics. (name, age, height, wt, etc). I have two attachment fields. Photos and Videos. Each of these fields can contain more that one file. The size of the video attachments is starting to get me up close to the 2 GB database limit. If each attachment field contained only one file, I would convert the fields over to a path link. I'm stumped on how to move the files out of the main database to control the size, but maintain the multi-file link to my forms. How to restructure this?

Modules & VBA :: Attaching Word Document To Attachment Field For Every New Record

Jan 12, 2015

I'm trying to work out how to attach a word doc to the attachment field of a table when I add a new Record. The following code work's fine if I add it to the On Load Event on the Form, but the doc is attach'd to the first record. When I add the code to the Add New Record button, I get the error msg: "File already part of the Multi-Valued Field" and nothing in the attachment field.

Code:
Private Sub Add_Record_Click()
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Me.Description.SetFocus
On Error GoTo Err_AddImage
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim rsParent As DAO.Recordset2
Dim rsChild As DAO.Recordset2

Tables :: How To Not Allow A New Record To Have Similar Values As Existing One

Jul 29, 2015

I am having an issue with duplicates in my table. I have a table, called "Part Mods", that has about 12 fields in it. the first 2 of them are "Mod" and "Part Number". I have a form where someone can insert data into this table and what i want is for them to NOT be able to insert a record with the same Mod/Part Number combination of an already existing record. I have "indexed" turned on but I am pretty sure that is for every field.

Tables :: Replacing Existing Field By Lookup Value

Feb 23, 2013

I'm building a database to calculate yearly fees for customers. I have a list coming from our accountancy-database that shows a field with the clients name & surname combined and I have a table named 'customers' that contains the clients names & surnames as separate values.

The first table (let's name it "accountancy") thus contains a field "Customer". Example data in this field:

"John McLane"
"John Doe"
"Marcy Free"
"Zino Withers"

The second table ("customers") contains the fields "ID, name, surname". Example data in this table:

1;"John";"Doe"
2;"Marcy";"Free"
3;"John";"McLane"

Now, what I'm looking for is a way to replace the 'Customer'-field in the first table by a lookup field that contains the correct ID for that customer in the 'Customers'-table.

Lucky thing: there are no doubles in the customer's table, so no two customers have the same name AND surname.

Queries :: Update Field Based On Existing Record Fields

Jun 3, 2013

I have a field called uniqueID which I would like to update based on 2 other fields that are already populated in my recordset (from running previous queries). I heard it is not possible to do an Update Select like shown below.

select max(uniqueID) from myTable where a = "value of field a from first record in record set" and b = "value of field b from first record in record set"

If it is true that I cannot do an Update Select then I am trying to do something in VBA. How can I Loop each row in the record set and store the values from fields a and b. I would obviously then need to pass those values into the sql above and store the result in a variable. I would then do a straight update to put the value of uniqueID into myTable.

Add New Field To Existing Table And Populate New Field With Existing Data

Apr 23, 2014

-Microsoft Access 2010

-Existing Access Database contains tables with 1-2 million records

I would like to add a field[dol] to an existing table[rei]. I need this new field[rei].[dol] to be populated with existing data from another table[main] based on the associated field[main].[account1] or [main].[account2] or [main].[account3].

Table1[main]
...account1
...account2
...account3
...dol

[code]...

In the [main] table. There is always data in [dol]. But there is NOT always data in the [account] fields. Sometimes there is multiple account numbers per [dol] but not always.

Customers will ALWAYS have at least 1 [account] number and [dol]. Some will have multiple [account] numbers and [dol]. Sometimes these [account] numbers are the same in multiple fields[account1] [account2] [account3].I just need to do a lookup or something to find the [account#] and pull in its [dol] from the [main] table and populate it in [rei].[dol].

Using Copy Of Existing Workgroup File On A New Db?

Jun 17, 2005

Hi all,

I've set up security on my database before with great success, and now I'd like to use the same workgroup file (a copy with a new name and location) to secure a nes db.

I open the new db, and join my earlier created mdw file. I'm prompted with that I have joined my workgroupfile.

I then set permissions for each user in the workgroupfile, remove admin rights for the admin user account, and assign admin rights to my own account. I am also the owner of thr db.

I now run the security wizard, and I make no changes to any checkboxes.

This goes nicely, and the wizard closes after making a backup file.

I now want to re-join the system.mdw file, so I don't get prompted with the logon dialog when opening a new db or an unsecured db.

If I now try to start my new secured db by double-clicking on the secured mdb file it opens ?????

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Migrating A97 -> A2K

Jan 26, 2006

We are upgrading our Access 97 databases in our company since we were told that Microsoft is, or will soon no longer, support A97.

I've migrated a few of our simpler databases already. Everything went without a hitch and all functionality was retained.

Word spread and now other depts are seeking my assistance. Some of these databases are somewhat complex in regard to their use of modules and linked/ODBC tables.

If I were to attempt to convert the 97 version (copy of course), and if anything were not to convert properly, would Access tell me in the form of an error message or table? Or do I have to manually test all functionality in the 2000 version and hope that I didn't miss anything?
