Tables :: Relationship - Client Data Is Not Populating Into Routing Form
May 20, 2015
I have created 2 tables: Client and Routing.
Each client record is unique. A client can have 'several' routing records.
Key field in Client is 'Client ID'.
Routing table has foreign key of: Client IDFK
I created a relationship of one to many from Client table 'Client ID' to Routing table 'Client IDFK'.
I created a form for the Client table and works.
Where I am having issue is: Client data is not populating into the following Routing form.
* I want a 'Routing form' that you can lookup client info and place it into that form.
* The bottom of the form will be all the routing table fields. The new routing info will be entered into it.
My client needs that form printed for the driver. Client will have many routing forms(records) but only one client record. The driver will have one completed form for each time he picks up client.

Dear experts,
I'm quite new to Access but find it very interesting to learn more. I used to create data entry in other softwares but now like to use Acesss instead since it has many advantages i.e can be used for web survey.
My question is how to create the routing/ jump & how to check the relationship across fields for the same record right from the entry (i.e Age=18 ---> jump to "smoking"; "drinking"=yes --> "Age">25)
Any advice is really appreciated.
Thank you so much,:)

I have two tables(see below). I want to set up a query, link these 2 tables together. I set a one-to-one relationship between Client ID in two table. But got error message :"Type mismatch in expression".
I tried to change Client ID data type from "Text" to "Number", then Access deleted some data under Client ID in Order table. How can I make this work, but not having to re-type in all data?
Client Table:
Client ID(Autonumber)
Client Name (Text)
Client Address (Text)
Order Table:
Order ID(Autonumber)
Client ID(Short Text)
Unit Order(Number)
Unit Price

I am trying to create a table which would include financial data, by year, by client. For example:
Client #1
2009 2010 2011
Revenue 5000 10000 1200
Expenses 2000 1000 700
Net Income 3000 9000 500
Client #2
2009 2010 2011
Revenue 5000 10000 1200
Expenses 2000 1000 700
Net Income 3000 9000 500
Etc.
Should I have headers as such:
Client #, 2009Revenue, 2009Expenses, 2009NetIncome, 2010Revenue, 2010Expenses, 2010NetIncome, 2011Revenue, 2011Expenses, 2011NetIncome

I'm creating a Dating Database on MS access, Now I've been given the attributes for all the tables. They are five (Client, Hobby, Meeting, ClientHobby, ClientMeeting)
Now I'm needed to create a form which allows me to enter the client data + at least two interests and their age calculated from their DOB. Seeing as I was only asked to put DOB in the actual Client table, I thought I'd create an Age query and then make that form out of the Age Query. (I already successfully managed to get the Age out of DOB in that query in a field of its own)
However, how can I add the hobbies field to that age query so I can finally create the form that I am required to do?
Second, I am to create a query which will be used for ‘matching’ clients. The criteria that you will use are: gender, age (using a range e.g. 20-25), interests/hobbies and city/town, this query ill be used to create a report which lists all the clients who match the entered criteria. How am I to do that?

I haven't used access for a long time so I am very rusty.
I have a few tables but I'll just use two for an example:
Table A
Ticket No
Part No
Defect Code
WorkCenter No
Clock No
(Ticket No is Primary Key)
Table B
Clock No
Supervisor
Employee
(Clock No is Primary Key)
Is there a way for me to create a form, that when Clock No is entered it will be placed in both tables?
Thanks in advance.

I have an Access 2007 database with two tables (I will call them table 1 and table 2)
Both tables contain the same two fields. (I will call the FirstName and LastName)
Table 1 has an associated Form where the user enters the two names. When the value in either one of the two fields in Table 1 change I want the corresponding field in Table 2 to automatically update with the same value that were entered in Table 1. Basically I want Table 2 to automatically replicate the same data in Table 1. So if I type the text "John" into the FirstName field in Table 1 then the FirstName field in Table 2 will automatically update with the text "John"
I am new to access and am struggling with the automatic updating.
If the automatic part is too hard then I will be happy to attach the update action to a command button.
I have uploaded my database file with the two tables for reference. I want to get the fields (for all records) in table 2 to replicate table 1 so that when table 1 updates table 2 values changes to show the same text.

I have created a many-to-many relationship but am now having trouble figuring out how to add new data.
I have a table PEOPLE:
ID First Name Last Name
1 Participant A
2 Participant B
3 Participant C
And I have a table BEHAVIORS:
ID Behavior
1 Yelling
2 Grabbing
3 Smearing feces
And I linked these together in a many-to-many relationship in a table PEOPLE_BEHAVIORS:
ID Participant Behavior
1 A Yelling
2 B Yelling
3 C Yelling
4 A Grabbing
5 B Grabbing
6 A Smearing feces
7 C Smearing feces
All that's good to go. But now I need a table so I can count how often these behaviors occur every day. I need to link PEOPLE_BEHAVIORS to a new data table that will count how often I see the behaviors linked to the people every day. So my table should look like:
ID Participant Behavior Date Frequency
But I should only document the frequency of the behaviors linked to that participant (so for Participant A, I should have a space for yelling, grabbing, and smearing feces whereas for Participant B, I,d only have a space for yelling and grabbing). Is it possible to create a table that will basically partially create records for me? So if I open the table to add data today, I'd see the following and fill in the frequency blanks?
ID Participant Behavior Date Frequency
1 A Yelling 6/16/14
2 B Yelling 6/16/14
3 C Yelling 6/16/14
4 A Grabbing 6/16/14
5 B Grabbing 6/16/14
6 A Smearing feces 6/16/14
7 C Smearing feces 6/16/14

I'm currently using Access 2010 and I'm working on a database project. My question is related to table relationships. Within that project I do have a table that is related to other three tables where that table is the parent. The problem here is that once that table is updated or have a new value it never cascades it down to the other tables.
1- How to have multi relationship to the same field on the same table from different tables?
2- how to cascade the updates to the related fields?
3- Is there any way to force the data update to other tables?

I have created two tables. One table list of 100 Categories that I monitor each month. The Categories are never changing month-to month, however, each might be associated with a different client month-to-month. Presently, I am manually typing in the Client information month-to-month with information pulled from the Client's table. The Client's table has a Category Field which is populated when a Client has purchased space to use it.
In essence, I have the Category Table (Fields: Record Number; CategoryName; Client Name; beginning date the client will use the Category and Ending Date the client will stop using it). The Client's Table has a lot more fields/information but it still has the same fields as the Category Table. I am trying to be able to use the Category Table and have it automatically populate with the client who is using the Category at that time. Any Category not being used by a Client then the Query should write "Open" in the Client's name field. I have tried many different scenarios but can't seem to get it to work. I must see all 100 Categories each time I run a report. It doesn't have to say "Open" but where ever a client did not use the Category it should be left blank.

I have a form with several controls. Among them are 3 in particular:
Vendor Price - Unit cost with no tax
Unit Price - Vendor Price w/tax
Old Price
What I am trying to accomplish is a way to track what previous costs were by having the Old Cost control populate with the Unit Price controls value when there is a change to either VP or UP either due to new cost or new tax rates.I found a bit of code online but was not able to get it to work for me...probably because I haven't a clue of how to structure it for my needs.

Hi all
Brand new on here and desparate for some help and guidence.
So far with Access I have just used it as a store of addresses to mailshot prospective clients.
However, I now need a more complex database and this is where you might be able to help.
First things first, most of my clients are in universities. This means that I can be used by more than one person in more than one department at a university.
Does this mean I need to do three tables:
1/ "University Details" which gives the address details
2/ "Department" storing the departments of the unis we work for
3/ "Client" Name of the client(s) in that department.
After this how do I link them?
Thanks

I'm trying to populate a listbox from a recordset. I will explain what I'm trying to achieve.
I have a (continuous) form with some data from a table. On the form header I have a listbox, showing all (distinct) customers from that form.
The user is able to do some filtering. That all works great. But I want to populate the listbox with ONLY the customers on the form AFTER filtering.
One way I thought might me the solution was using RecordClone. But I'm stuck there. It must be something simple for an expert. I'm not entirely a newbie, at least not to VBA. Is there an easy way to refer the listbox' recordset to the actual recordset on the form?

First of all, I want to say Thank you to everyone in this forum I have been reading just about every question in each Topic and I have pick up a lot more than I tough I knew. [Thank you]! I not sure how to ask this question or better yet write it. Here is my Situation I work for the NAVY as an Enlisted Personnel station in (New Orleans, LA) I have created a few databases for my workcenter and were simple enough that I managed. Now, I been task to help create a Call Center DataBase to keep track of Phone Calls and Issues the Agents(Employer received Daily) As well run other reports.
I am Including a copy of what I done so far. Can someone advise me about my Database Design? Does it makes sense? Are the Relationship seen good?
my frmCustomer is based on query (qSupport) I would like to know if the form and the SubForm are set up ok where I can have the Agents input data.
And one more thing on the frmMenu I have a few Text Boxes where I would like to display the total Amouth of Phone Calls received - as well the ones pending and Close? Any Criticism or Suggestion are more than welcome.
I hope my Question / Request makes sense. Thank you ....

Using VBA (in Access), what code should I use to check if a client name already exists in a table.
Say, client name is "Smith", my table is called tblClient and the field name in the table is called fldClientName.
I just need to do the check, that's all.

hi everybody,
great resource you have here! my employer is tracking around 250 pieces of data for each client at our facility. i am making a new access system based on their existing mysql database and web front end. before i start messing around with forms and reports, i want to see how well this existing structure will work in access, and what kind of approach i should take. i am a newbie with access, but lots of experience with asp/mssql/php/mysql. making web forms is so time consuming that i figured i would be best off moving the whole thing to access and starting from scratch.
client information is stored in eight tables. each table has around 30 fields in it. the first table has a primary key autonumber, and the other seven tables have foreign keys with unique constraints that point back to the first table. that is, for each client record in the first table, there can only be exactly one corresponding record in the other tables.
i did some data massaging, and got the eight client tables into one big table, but the resultant table has almost 250 fields in it, and access doesn't seem to like working with tables that big. so i am thinking that it is best to leave the eight tables separate, but linked in one to one relationships.
i was kind of ideally visualizing a form with eight tabs so that i could edit/update all of the information from the eight tables rather seamlessly.
my question is: what approach to table structure will best suit my needs, and what approach should i take to add/update/delete the info with forms? will i need to do vb for this? any good one-to-one example databases anybody could point me at?
thanks a million,
harry doyle

I'm not sure if Access is the right program to use for this scenario as I only know the basics on creating the database.
I want to be able to create a client database and then be able to generate a number of standard template letters at any particular time for selected clients.
I don't want a mail merge!!
Can access be used for this?
Ideally I would like to create a form for administrators to use to input new client info and update existing clients info and then just be able to click a button (or the like) to generate the standardized letter for a particular scenario.

I have a table with duplicate records (which is ok) and I want to return distinct data for each client.
It works fine when there is only two fields returned however, when I add a third field to the query it no longer returns only the Distinct records - I am getting Duplicates returned.
I.E
SELECT DISTINCT tblClient.ClientNo, tblClient.Name
FROM tblClient
Works fine with only the Distinct records for each client returned
However
SELECT DISTINCT tblClient.ClientNo, tblClient.Name, tblClient.Address, tblClient.OrderValue
FROM tblClient
Now returns Duplicates!
Is there a limit to the number of fields to be returned using DISTINCT or what else could be the problem? Should I be doing this some other way?

How to use VBA..... I have set up a simple database to enter data into then upload to a client web portal.
I have a form to enter the data and the table this data goes into has a check box at the end which I want to have ticked/checked/True after I have exported.
I have created a query that shows me all data that is unchecked (not yet exported to an xls)
I have created a simple export macro that sends the query result to an .xls
I want the macro to finish by checking the "export" checkbox once I have done this....
I am using Access 2010 attached is a screen dump of what I have so far....
