Apr 23, 2013

Using access 2010. Trying to set up an import table from an external database.

Code:
DoCmd.TransferDatabase acImport, "Microsoft Access", "Y:DevTestFolder2013 01 Some Data Name", acTable, "tblName", "tblName"

I get an error 3024 could not find the file Y"DevTestFolder2013....

Keep Database Secure By Disallowing External Import

Nov 1, 2005

I've made an access project (ade) and stored the admin with password in the ade file.
When I open a new database I can use the import feature to import all tables with definitions and data from the ade file. All other objects are being locked.

How can i disallow tables from my mde to be imported into another access application?

Import External Table, Access Does Not Like Field Name

Sep 27, 2005

Hi,

I would like to link to an external data source (table) from MS Access 2003. I attempt to use the 'Import' feature to do this, and select 'ODBC Connection'. I am trying to connect to an application called 'Action Remedy'. I make the connection fine, but when Access attempts to import the table, it does not like one of the Action Remedy field names, and the Import aborts. The name is something like "Call Status-History.Closed.Time". Obviously, Access does not like this field name. And the chances of getting it changed (on the A/R backend are slim to none). Thus, my question: Is there away around this ?

Thanks !

Modules & VBA :: Linking External Tables To Current Database?

Mar 16, 2015

I was wondering if it was possible to link random external tables to the Active Database through VBA. I would like to run the code that would open up a dialog box that would let the user select the database as well as the tables within that database that the user can select to link to. I am able to select the database and but not able to select the actual tables. The tables will be random so I can't make a constant statement for a specific database.

General :: Large Table Import / Way To Import Tables To Access

Sep 17, 2013

I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference).
Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.

Tables :: Updating Table Data From External Db?

Dec 24, 2012

I have an Access db in a 3 person multi-user environment on a Windows network.

There is a "PRODUCTION" db and a "DEVELOPMENT" db.

Let's call them PROD and DEV.

PROD has the most current data, shipping records, item master, customer data, sales, etc. - but not the most current structure.

DEV has the most current struture - all the front end stuff - forms, functions, modules, etc. - but not the most current data.

The way I've handled this in the past (it seemed to work) was to take the PROD db and rename it to PRODX. Then take the DEV db and rename it PROD. Then open DEV (now called PROD) using the usual shortcut to PROD.

So now that opens fine, and I have to update all the tables from PRODX - and I mean ALL of them - since I don't really know what data has changed since the last update. If I try to delete records I get blocked by access because of all the related records (I don't have cascade delete set on every relationship). So I delete the whole table - ALL of them (this requires me to also delete the relationships). Then I IMPORT all the tables from PRODX (these have the current data). But now the relationships are all gone. It seemed at first that the relationships were back and intact - but when I last looked they were gone. So this is my problem.

HOW do I COMPLETELY empty ALL of the tables - or even delete them - and then restore them or repopulate them from an exact copy of the db but with current table data - and WITHOUT affecting the relationships?

Obviously any back end structural changes have to be handled differently. Usually by manually making the same change on the PROD db that I had in the DEV db - because deleting the table will cause the structural changes to be lost.

One last thing - I've been working this way on an un-split db, and now I'm in the process of splitting it - which SHOULD make updates much easier.

Modules & VBA :: Exporting Tables - External Table Is Not In Expected Format

Sep 15, 2014

I'm currently using the following VBA to export all tables within my DB to Excel on separate tabs:

Dim td As DAO.TableDef, db As DAO.Database
Dim out_file As String
out_file = CurrentProject.Path & "" & "Backup.xls"
Set db = CurrentDb()
For Each td In db.TableDefs
If Left(td.Name, 4) = "MSys" Then
'We do not need MSys tables in excel file
Else
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, _
td.Name, out_file, True, Replace(td.Name, "dbo_", "") 'We do not need dbo prefix in sheetnames
End If
Next

But upon exporting I get the following error:

"Run-time error 3274' External table is not in expected format"

It then hightlights the following line:

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, _
td.Name, out_file, True, Replace(td.Name, "dbo_", "")

If i navigate to the directory i can see that it has exported it to excel(attempted), but half of the tables(tabs) are missing.

General :: Cannot Use ODBC To Import From / Export To / Or Link To External Microsoft Access

Mar 16, 2014

I am trying to create an ODBC link to a copy of the Northwind data base.I am running Win7 on a 64 bit operating system but am keeping office running as 32 bit for Access, Excel , Visio etc due to the fact that I have a lot of old apps tied to them.

When I attempted initially to create a new system DSN ODBC connection it only allowed me to use SQL drivers. (No plurry good) So after some searching I found out that I could use a file in C:WindowsSysWOW64 called "odbcad32.exe" which has allowed me to view /use the total list of drivers to import data.So I can set up a DNS ODBC named Northwind1 and I can access the database without problems using Excel. However if I try to use the same ODBC link in Access to connect to Northwind1 I get the following error message:"You cannot use ODBC to import from export to, or link an external ?Microsoft Access or ISAM database table to your database".

How To Import Data From The Original Two Tables To New Updated Database

Apr 28, 2014

I've been making small changes here and there to my database in Access 2013. I have left the original database in place and it has acquired many new records from the last month. I'm ready to start using the newly updated design version of the database, but I do not want to have to type all those new records into the new database to get it up-to-date. There has to be a way to import the data from the original database to the newly updated one.

Most, If not all of the fields have the same names, but some of the fields have changed, like to Combo boxes. I removed two or three unneeded fields, and added two or three. I understand the new fields will need to have data enter to them, but the remaining would be redundant and inefficient if I have to reenter all the recent records again.

How do I import the data from the original two tables to the new updated database? I only have two tables and they use a One-to-One relationship in both databases. The table's names are different, but as I mentioned earlier, the fields are mostly the same. Do I need to import into Excel, and then modify the data slightly, and then import into my new database?

Tables :: Import CSV To Table But Only New Data?

Aug 15, 2013

I have a production machine that writes its output to a CSV file every time it produces a good part (several times pr. day). It can produce identical part which means that the mashine will not put in another line in the csv, but just update the no of produced parts. I had to rename the attached file because you can not uploade *.csv files in the forum.

What I want is:

- When someone opens a specific Access db a tabel in the db is updated with all new data from the csv file.

My problem is: How do I make sure that I only get the new data from the Access db.

Tables :: How To Import Excel As A Table

Mar 12, 2013

I am trying to build a DB for work at the gas company. Currently this is tracked on 10 excel flat files and I want to make this process more efficient. The company DB is oracle based and the system is not set up for me to limit views just to my information. Therefore I am trying to build an access DB to handle this. What I am doing is downloading a copy of the DB info (which includes everyones area) to an excel spreadsheet and linking this to access as a linked table so I can use this information. Unfortunately, this means it makes a linked table without a key field.

However, according to information that I have read, I am unable to use this linked table in a form because it makes the form not updateable??? Is this due to the linked table and if so, is there a work around?

The reason I link this information is due to multiple fields that are updated hourly/daily. If I turn this into a table, then I will have to either manually update these fields constantly or create additional steps in order to recreate the wheel so to speak. I don't need to be able to update the linked information in the form, I just want to see it when doing the data entry for the purpose of specific dates, previous surveys, previous survey results, and for flagging due dates. Is this possible?

So far, the only information that I have been able to research on this is how to link information or how to import excel as a table but nothing that speaks of how to use a linked table in a form or what limitations a linked table has.
