Apr 16, 2007I believe I may have asked this question before but…
I have a FE/BE database. Is there a way to set the tables as “read only”? I’d like the FE to be read only, but allow users to see all the tables, not just forms etc. However, if they open the BE, they would have full control.

Apr 8, 2006Ok, what i have is a form on which a user has an Option Group for selection on which records are shown (consumable and Non-consumable), also on the form is a combo box which reads from Table Asset Categories. However what i want to do is allow this combo box to read from another table depending on which option is selected in the Option Group. ie change its Table and row source, but i can't figure this out. I thought something in the region of:
If Me.OptionGroup = 0 then recordsource = "Asset Categories"
Else RecordSource = "Consumable Categories"
End IF

Jul 11, 2013I have a Workorder table and a Workorder form. I would like to be able to make a Workorder closed when it is finished so that it is read only. I have a finished date field so maybe by entering a date there could be a way to accomplish this?

Sep 13, 2007I am new to Access, so bear with me.
I am using Access 2007.
I have 4 tables created, and they are breaking out information for recording files that are being created from a PBX.
The tables are created as thus:
tbl_1
Key:ext_id | extension
tbl_2
Key:loc_id | location
tbl_3
Key:f-type_id | filetype
tbl_4
Key: mass_id | filename | date | loc_id | ext_id | f-type_id
Now I have created the relationships between the tables for the various ID's. My issue is the following:
I will be automating this process, so when the data is imported to the various tables, I need the relevant keys from tbl_1 tbl_2 and tbl_3 to be added to tbl_4 when the new data is brought into the tables.
As to the process of importing the data, I was looking at using PHP to facilitate this. Any ideas, help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I have looked around the net for an idea of how to solve this, but, being so new, I am not exactly sure how to word the question.

Oct 17, 2014Was wondering how i can import data from a file to a table in different fields. The data inside the file is described with the number of characters and space's between. The attached file has the data.
For example in the file attached, the first four characters represent a data like 'ticket number' and maybe the third line 6 to 10 charcaters represent 'name of a passenger'.
Now how do i import these data to a table into respective fields in a table.

Nov 14, 2012I have a table that I imported from another database. I used import Access - Link to the table source by creating a linked table. - then downloaded in my database.
I want to use the linked table to create relationships and forms but do not want to even accidently edit it. The table gets updated in the database on a weekly bases and I am hoping it gets updated automatically in my database as well. does it automatically get updated or do i have to set up something?
Also, I want to protect the data in that particular table and either password protect it or make it read only. Can I do that? If so, how?

Jun 13, 2006Hi, I know this has to be simple, but when I test a Data Access Page on my local machine I get an error that says "data source field is read only". I've made these pages before and never had a problem with writing to the database using a DAP. The database is not read only. Any ideas?

Audit Trail To Read The Caption Of The Field From The Table

i have an application with an audit trail module, i do read the table name , field name,old value, new value. but the lables of the fields at my forms are changed to arabic language
for example
lets say i do have a table
the name of one field is Name
on the form the label of this field is Lawyer Name
now the client is asking me to show the ( Lawyer Name ) not the field name ( Name ) in the audit trail to know the changes were made.
I thought to go to the tables and on each field 's caption i shall add in arabic the same as in my form
I am trying to read the caption of the field from the tables
i hope you understood what i mean
if you show me the code to do that , it would be highly appreciated

Mar 6, 2015I have a form to input data into a table1. On the form I have a combo box to read from a next table exchange rate to input into the table1. Field in Tablet for the exchange rate is set to Field size double, Format currency, and decimals 6.
I am unable to set the field size on the form to read the 6 decimals. The combo box is set to Currency decimal 6. I tried General Number and it still only shows only one decimal.
Cannot Be Read: No Read Permissions
Dec 19, 2007I have a brand new database in-the-works that is causing me headaches. For some reason, if I create a query and then exit and re-enter the database, I cannot re-open that query. I get an Error 3112 (cannot be read; no read permission on <name>) and to contact the administrator or creater of the database.
I'M the creator and the administrator on this thing - so why can't I get into the darn thing? I haven't added any security features. This has never happened before on any database I've created, so obviously, it's frustrating.
Any ideas?

Sep 26, 2012Currently trying to build a database for customer management and order placement/tracking. Want to set a couple of rules so that if I for instance click yes of billing and shipping address the same that the database will automatically fill the shipping address with the data I inputted for the billing address in the same table.
The other issue I can see I'll run into is, I want to be able to select one of the company ID's (made up of a three letter abbreviation of the full company name) in the product ordering table and it will automatically fill in the rest of the customer data (phone, email, address etc) data into that form.

May 1, 2014i have 4 supplier tables with identical field names but different databases in sql.I want to have them all in one table and only want the information for reference i do not want to edit any of the data.I need to create a new primary key number for the complete table. The data will need to be refreshed as the data comes from MMS Sage looking at company PLsuppliers.
I have tried a linked SQL union view- but this has no primary key.I need to keep the Primary key consistent as the data saved in other tables will use this field.The overall goal is creating a Purchase order system and this list will be my complete supplier list.

The user wants a report or export query that only shows records that has differences between prior weeks data and the current weeks data. The tables have 12 fields of data in a record per quote number. The user wants a query or report to identify the QuoteNum and any changes between the prior and current records. The table structures are as follows:

I tried to structure a union query and use <> in each field but got too tedious and didnt give the expected results.
Tables :: Passing Field Values Between Tables
Dec 10, 2014Currently, we have a table which contains a field for each type of training that can be taken (FUT1, FUT2, ...). Once an Instructor has taken one seminar, the table is populated with the date taken, via their employee number (the key) through an update form.
Now, the company wants the paper training reports to turn into a digital part of this database. As envisioned, the form and associated table will have combo boxes with pre-determined training types (FUT1, FUT2, ...). The date would be typed in.
The problem I see is getting the dates and training type from the future table to populate the existing table in the correct field for the correct Instructor.
In addition, there exists a report which prints out the training dates for each Instructor at each school. This is will still be in use.

Feb 16, 2014I'm pretty good with setting up a very simple database such as inventory, profiles, etc.. However I'm creating a database to keep track of a football (soccer) team's players and match statistics.What I have so farsample attached)
Tables:
* Players - PlayerID, Fname, Lname, position, goals, assists, etc (all details regarding a player)
* Position - Positons (Table containing positions eg: defender. Data is selected in player's form as a combo-box)
* Competition - Competition types (Cup, League, Friendly. Data is selected in Match's form as a combo-box
* Venue - similar to Competition table
* Opponent - Similar to above two tables
* Match - MatchID, Competition, Venue, etc (form corresponding to table attached)
Forms:
* Player form
* Match form
Now as shown in the sample, I choose players using the combo-box. Then whatever stats they had during the match are entered on the fields provided. How to link the player (selected using combo box) to the stat fields (goals, assist, YC, etc).
