I have a single field in a table called "Client Contact", where users enter a semicolon between the name, address, and city state & zip. My reason for this was so we could copy client info with a single copy and paste (like from an email). But, on the final report, it needs to have these three parts split up into different lines, or even different textboxes. I can't find a way to do that.
We have a database (Access 2007) with several linked tables to an MS-SQL 2008 instance. All the text fields that I have issue with are nvarchar(255) on MS-SQL. The odd thing it will not allow a full 255 characters to be entered into the field. It will fail to save unless the number of characters is about 238 or 239 characters (not sure of the exact number of characters). It shows the field as a text and field size of 255 in Access .
I know you can't store text in a numeric field but I always thought you could store numbers in a text field - provided you didn't need to do any calculations on them. My problem is as follows:
I receive an Excel 2003 spreadsheet once a month, which I save to a specific filename/location overwriting the previous file. My Access 2003 database uses this as a linked table and (among other things) runs an append query to add the new data onto an existing table.
We have now added a new column called Reference in the spreadsheet. Often, this will be empty, but it could contain numbers or text. This is the first month I have received it and most entries are blank (including the first row) but further down there are some numeric values.
So I added a new Reference field to my main table and set it to text. Then I amended the append query to include the new field. But when I run it I get the error "Numeric field overflow". If I take that column back out of the query, it runs fine, so that's definitely the offending data. And when I open the linked table in Excel and scroll down to where I should see the reference numbers, I see #Num! So it looks to me like it doesn't recognise numbers as text.
Things I've already tried
In Excel, I formatted all the Reference cells as text.
That didn't work, so next I added a dummy record at the top of the Excel file (just under the headings), with zeroes in the numeric columns and 'X's in the text columns including Reference.
But that doesn't work either. Given the above circumstances, what's the best way to proceed with this?
My form used to work and as I kept adding event scripts now when I click on the ID text field, it doesn't open the linked record, but a blank record with 'Filtered' showing on the bottom navigation. I guess a question I have is,
-is there an order on which the procedure scripts run -do they all run everytime, or just the specific event script
=================================== Private Sub Company_Click() DoCmd.OpenForm "frm Company", , , "[ID] = " & [ID] DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmCompanyDirectory" End Sub ===================================
I used to have code on a button on the "frmCompanyDirectory" that added a new record to "frm Company" and that's when the ID = ID stopped working.
This is my first post of hopefully many, and I hope to be able to keep visiting and helping others in the future.
I'm building a database at the moment which I've done basing forms on Queries as I'm very familiar with doing so. However, one form in the database if a bit different.
The form in question is for shipping off refurbished units at the warehouse, by adding a SHIP ID to the record for each unit scanned in. The form before creates a recird ubdexed by a SHIP ID in the SHIPPING table, along with some other info such as delivery address and ship date. Each unit will be assigned this SHIP ID by the child form I wish to create, by scanning the Serial Number against it. Two actions are done on the child form: Read in Serial Number of unit, find record in MAIN table and display key fields such as the units status (i.e. "WIP" or "REPAIRED" into text boxes on the form Allow unit to be shipped (by assigning the SHIP ID to the unit's record in the main table, only if the STATUS field shows as "REPAIRED" Now, because I want to scan units into the form's Serial Number textbox and do the STATUS field check, then assign the SHIP ID; I need a recordset, right? I've inherited development of datdbases which used recordsets in their forms before, but have never had to create one from scratch. Also I wasn't able to take a copy of the source code of those databases before I left my last company.
Can anyone give me some info on what the bare minimum is to create a recordset, and to use it to save the record once I've made changes.
For your info I would consider myself an Access intermediate, and I've worked with it in various roles and versions for around 5 years.
I have a form that contains a combo box (cboEmployeeName) that pulls data from a query and populates three text boxes (Work Area, Last Name, First Name), This part works fine. Because the text boxes are being populated by the Combo box, they are not bound to the record source tblTrainingSchedule). I need the info that is in the text boxes to populate the respective fields in the record source.
I tested by adding "=tblTrainingSchedule!WorkArea=[cboEmployeeName].Column(3)" (column 3 is the work area) to the "after update" control but it does not populate the data.
I am trying to get the text in a couple text boxes to turn green if a certain Yes/No field is left blank.
I know the conditional formatting is working, because condition 1 and 3 are working fine (those expressions are referencing text fields).
I would like to have Condition 2 look at [DM_Approval] from the bound query and if it is unchecked, execute the conditional formatting.
I've tried all kinds of statements, but i'm starting to think that the expressions in the conditional formatting window just won't work when referencing a yes/no field.
Specifically (at the very least) i know i tried [DM_Approval]=False, [DM_Approval]=No, [DM_Approval]=0, and [DM_Approval] is null.
i want to search a phone number in contact information table with column names - number, name, address, dob, gender, f-name, m-name etc and show them in a form with each field in separate text boxes in access 2010.
And other time it wont work with On change but only with After Update Event (code is same).
Another thing this morning happens was that when I tried to add new record trough form where combo box and tex boxes are located, MS Office suddenly stopped working after selecting combo box selection (with message Microsoft Office has Stopped Working). It is 2013 version.
I got it work after deleting and re-inserting VBA code to autopopulate text box at After Update Event.
I currently have 3 tables within a database with student details of three different classes. I need to create a user form that has a dropdown box which I can select a student from one of these tables with a number of text boxes below which brings up all the students details, then once the student has been selected and the correct details are shown then I need to create a button which allows me to move that student from one table to another.
I'm trying to build an database for aircraft operators. I've got the basic tables structure and relationships but I'm stuck on building an search form to filter records by user input.I've got following controls on my form (unbound):
1. AircraftType (combo box) from tblAircrafts 2. CompanyName (combo box) from tblListOfAircraftsOperators 3. TeailNumber (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 4. AirportNameSearch (combo box) from tblAirports 5. PassengersNumber (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 6. ManufactureYear (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 7. SourceSearch (combo box) from tblInfoSource 8. CountrySearch (combo box) from tblCountry 9. CategorySearch (combo box) from tblAircraftCategory 10. EamilToOperator (text box) from tblAircraftOperators 11. InteriorPhoto (Bound object frame) from tblAircraftOperators 12. ExteriorPhot (bound object frame) from AircraftOperators
I need to enable users to search for aircrafts based on those criteria. As I mentioned I'm new to Access and I don't have any advanced coding skills. I have a query build to perform the search and this is the code I've managed to write so far:
there is a way to convert multiple text boxes to combo boxes all at once, rather than right clicking on them one at a time, and selecting Change to.
I have a form with about 50 fields and most of them need to be converted to combo boxes. I'd always done it manually one at a time up to this point, but I'm trying to build up my learning and look for smarter ways to do things.
I have a form with a List Box (List BoxA) that returns a value from a query. I then have a Text Box (Text BoxB) that uses the value from List BoxB and multiplies it by let's say 2. It works giving me the correct value but only becomes visible after I click inside List BoxA. How can I make it visible as soon as the form is opened? I tried refreshing the form data, didn't work and I tried a requery macro which didn't work either.
Hi, I added some new controls into existing form. I made sure I added those new control names to Table source as well. For some reason, I dont get the values either in the form or in table. Please help. Thanks. By the way, how can I attach an attachment in this forum. This if first time for me in this forum.
I have an excel file linked to a table in Access. Several fields are date data types in excel but are showing up as text fields in Access.
My real goal is to do a comparison between two tables, but only if the date of the one piece of data is newer than the other. I had planned on comparing the two date fields but even though I have formatted the date fields in my excel file to be "Date", when I look at the design view of my table it is showing up as "Text" and therefore I am unable to do this comparison.
I'm not sure if it's just something that I'm missing but maybe someone else knows an easy fix to this. I know this is probably a simple question, but I did search the forum and didn't find a thread that specifically dealt with this issue.
I have a form ive created as part of my database used for data input.
Someone opens the form , enters their project number, and then enters what country it is in, what region it is in, and what sub region it is in. They are all dropdown menus with the information coming from a table via a lookup wizard.
What i want is when someone choses england in the country field, i want the region field to only displays the regions in england, and then in the sub region field i want only the sub regions that are in the regions displayed in the drop down list.
Is there a way in which i can link three drop down boxes together?
I'll create an example of what I mean...
I'll attach a Excel file which contains two identical filters, one of them where the filter is turned on.
If I select the "Serviced" filter, I am left with three options for "Make" and two options for "color". If I select the "color" as "White" I am left with just one "Make" - "MG".
I understand that some sort of "hierarchy" needs to be in place so I will Make it so that "Serviced" Must be entered first, then "Color" then "Make" so that if you select a different "Service", the "Color" and "Make" will repopulate with the appropriate values.
This is certainly possible with a REDICULOUS amount of coding that would map each value to its corresponding values however is this possible some other (easier) way?
Hi guys, I have a related databes with about 20 tables.
My main table stores the data linking with most of the other tables. This main table stores football match records with player line ups. Initially I had a problem linking the 11 player fields in the main table to the player table, Icould only do it with 1, so someone at work suggested to link it using the lookup function. This worked brilliantly. However, now I am designing a GUI with forms but the forms have combo boxes where the lookup function was used and when i change these to text boxes, the players names are replaced with their ID numbers.
Is there any way of creating the form without the unsightly combo boxes, as they won't be needed, the GUI will be read-only. I look forward to your help!!
I have a form with a check box among other itmes. What I want to happen is, when the user checks the check box, I want the text box to the right of it to be made visible and to let the user write text. But I only want this text box to be visible when the check box is checked. The check box is if the user wish to put a comment in the form, he will click the check box and then I want my text box to appear so that he may write the comment in the text box. Please help with this. Thanks
I have a table that has client names and addresses. I have designed a form to be able to invoice these clients and everything is fine however what I'd like to do is have the address of the client appear automatically.
I have set the client names in a combo box and would like their address to appear in either a text box or sunken label automatically from the table. Is this possible and how do I do it.
Please keep in mind that I've done basic programming so please be kind to this newbie :D
I have a form on which there is a series of text box controls relating to different frequencies. At the moment I enter a value in to each of these manually.
However, I would like to have an unbound text box where I can paste in all the values (6 or 8 of them) from excel and then press a button and they would be copied in to the individual boxes.
So far I have my design:
I'm not sure where to start with regard to the code as I don't know how to handle delimited text - is it column delimited in excel?
I imagine some sort of loop, such as a do until will be required but again not sure.
Is it possible to use find and replace to modify text in report design - or else is there something else I can do to get the same effect? I have a really useful report and I want to modify it for use with a different dataset. To do that I will need to change the text in over 150 text boxes. I have seven different fields which each occur over 20 times in the control source formulas in the text boxes, because they are used in different ways in different calculations. If this was excel I could do a simple find and replace to change e.g. every reference to fieldname OLD to fieldname NEW, but I cannot see how to do that within access report so am haveing to click on each text box in turn, go to properties and edit the text box .
I am trying to switch to a more general naming system in the modified report so then I will be able to assign data with the required fieldnames for the report within a query. But the report I am starting with has field names based on years 2013, 2014, 2015 etc.I want a quick way to change each reference to those field names to my more generic new field names.
