Textbox Control Source To Field Plus Sum

Jun 16, 2006

I have a textbox with it's field control source set.

Is there any way of having a Sum function that adds up other textboxes and saves them in this field/textbox.

So far i can either set the control source to the field name or have =Sum([size_sqm])

Control Source For An Unbound Textbox

Oct 25, 2005

I have a form that uses a query as its control source. The problem I have is that on this form I have an unbound textbox that I need to show the result of another query in. I thought I could do this by using =[Query]![QueryName]![Field name] in its control source, but this isn't working.

What is the right way to go about this?

Cheers

Textbox's Control Source Property

Feb 15, 2006

I have a main form with about six text boxs, these are too small to display the complete data so I created a form with a larger text box. When I dbbl-click in any of the various text boxs on the main form it would open the new popup form displaying the data. I need to be able to access the control source property of the popup form's textbox to change the control source to match the selected text box on the main form. This would allow me to use only one popup form instead of six.

The code I use to access the actual popup form itself is:

Forms![Notes].Form.Caption = " Notes "

Now I need to know what the code is to access the forms textbox control source data.

Hope I have explained this correctly

Display Control Source OR Default Value In Textbox

Aug 31, 2005

Table1 has field (% Completed this Period) that may contain a value, or may be NULL for each entry, depending on how much work was performed that period. The records are sorted by date.

Form1 has a textbox that basically keeps a running tally of "% Completed to Date" by summing the "% Completed this Period" for the current period and all previous periods. So, my Control Source for the textbox is the DSum(...) function.

The problem is this: If I am looking at the first record and there is a 0 (null) value for "% Completed this Period," (i.e. No work was completed that period), I want to display 0 on Form1. However, Access just displays nothing - a blank textbox. I tried making a default value, but nothing will show up since I already have a Control Source set for that field. If I take the DSum function out of the Control Source, then the 0 will show up. But, obviously that defeats the whole purpose of the textbox. I guess I'm trying to figure out how to display the DSum value IF it is something other than 0, BUT IF IT IS 0, then I want 0 to be displayed. Any help would be appreciated.

Forms :: Textbox Control Source - Pull Data To Display On Summary Tab

Oct 16, 2014

I have a form, with a tab control on it. Each tab has a subform to display data. One tab is meant to be a summary tab of the rest, so I want to pull data from certain controls on each of the other tabs to display on the Summary tab.

If I set the ControlSource to Forms!subfrmLABOUR!txtTotalHours.Value the control just displays #Name?

I assume that means it can't reference the ControlSource. Is it just a syntax thing? I've tried various methods, but no luck.

New Field Does Not Show In Control Source For Form Control

May 28, 2015

I have table that I had to add a new field to which we update with a form. I tried to add a control for the new field but the field does not show up in the list for the control source. I am trying to add a list box to the form with a blank and 5 options.

I have attached screen shots of the table design and the form. The table has the field in datasheet view and I have manually entered a few entries in it but it still will not show in the control source for the form control. The top section of the form is where we enter and select the data for the new records. The bottom section (circled in red) autofills the matching record, from separate tables, for updating with the new entries.

I have added form controls for modified fields in the past so I am confused about why this is happening.

Populate Textbox With A Field From Another Combo Box's Row/source Table

Jul 18, 2005

I've designed a data entry form based on a table. I use a few combo boxes, (linked via SQL statements for their row/source) to fill most of the fields in the table.

What I want to do is populate one textbox on the form with the contents of a field in one of the combo box's row/source tables. The field I want isn't shown in the combo box.

Basically, what I want is that when I choose a PART NUMBER from a combo box, I want the OEM_ID from the same table to jump into the textbox below it.

I think I may have tied myself in knots though to the point where what I want can't be done. Any ideas? I know this is probably going to take a couple of goes at explaining. :P

Control Source = Field From A Different Mdb

Feb 10, 2006

I need to add a text box to a form, but I need the contents to be a column in one of the tables of another database.

I can do it with a data from a table in the current database, but I can't figure out the syntax to bind to an external database.

I'm assuming it can be done because I can do it in Excel with:

='C:Documents and Settingsc-liam.gartsideMy Documents[OtherDatabase.xls]Sheet1'!A1

Any idea?

TIA, Liam

General :: Control Source - Set Value Of A Combo Box To Time Field

Oct 10, 2012

i have a list box with 6 columns. in column 6 there is a time field. on selecting this list box i want to set the value of a combo box to the time field.

so in the control source i put

[Forms]![frmAppointmentTreatmentItems]![comboTreatmentDuration]![Column](5)

This has no effect. I am not sure if i have done this correctly. but the combo box has manual values in it. the reason i want to have values in it is so if the treatment is 45 minutes at default. But i want to change it to 30 minutes just for a single occasion then i thought that this would be the way to do it.

Modules & VBA :: Reading A Field Control Source From For Loop

Feb 25, 2014

I want to create a table of all fields in a form, their datatype and their controlsource.

I have done the first 2 parts easily enough using the forms.formname.controls.name property
and
TypeName(forms.formname.controls)

But I am unable to pragmatically read the controlSource.
EG
forms.formname.controls.txtname.controlsource works

but when In a for loop

I cannot use the name of the control to return the control source.

Code:
Sub PopTab
Set frm = forms.FrmCases
for each CTl in frm.controls
MyName = ctl.name
MyType = TypeName(ctl)
MySource = ctl.name.controlsource
end if
next ctl
end sub

Queries :: DLookup In Reports Control Source For Each Field

Jun 13, 2013

I am trying to create a form with multiple combo boxes where users can select fields from my main database and click a button to generate a report based on their selections. I think I am supposed to create a generic report with perhaps 4 fields where I would link the four combo boxes to. The issue is I cant seem to get the selection of the combo box to change the field that the report should pull from the database. I think I am supposed to use dlookup in the reports control source for each field, but I cant seem to get it to work.

Queries :: IIF Functions - Control Source Of A Field In Form Data

May 8, 2014

I am new to access, after learning basics I am trying to build my first DB.

Having some troubles with the IIF syntax. I am placing the formula

=IIf([Total]<=(200),[Total]*(0.7)) & IIf([Total]>(201)&[Total]<=(500),[Total]-(200)*(1)+(140)) & IIf([Total]>(501),[Total]-(500)*(1.2)+(300)+(140))

In the form data control source of a field. The first 2 statement seems to work, but the last statement results in some crazzy figures.

Newly Entered Field Not Found In Control Source List

Oct 23, 2012

I have an access database where I have added a new field, but I cannot find the name of that field in the Control Source list to link it from where the data will be entered. It IS in the table, too. Why in the world is it not working.

A user enters a New Job Opening into the form for New Job Opening. Later, a user enters a New Interview in the New Interview form.... when they enter the job opening number into the job opening number field, it auto-populates the other information previously entered into the New Job Opening form into an area within the New Interview form. I have made sure the new field is in the table for the New Job Openings table.

Remove Record Source/Control Source

Sep 19, 2005

I have an unbound form with three tabs. On each tab there is a sub form. Each tab is a search form and each sub is a results returned. I have made everything unbound and set the sub form recordsource and its controls control souce on afterupdate of the main form search criteria. Works fine except for after some use the db decides the sub forms are not unbound and sets the record source and control sources.

I'm trying to do a

Me.PollingPlacesResults.Form.RecordSource = ""
Me!PollingPlacesResults!PollID.ControlSource = ""

but this does not seem to work in actualy removeing the record source and control source.

Queries :: Making Default Value Of A Form Textbox Control Minimum Value Of A Field

Mar 21, 2014

Expressions in Access have given me some trouble before. Mainly due to inexperience. I hardly ever work with them. What I am trying to do is make the default value of a form textbox control the minimum value of a field A in a table A. The datatype of Field A is Date.

So far I've got:

=Min([table A].[field A])

In the Default Value of the form's property sheet, but this just returns a blank value. I've had a look in the table and there is no value that is blank in field A.

Control Source

Jul 27, 2005

Hi all, at the moment all of my field are control sourced. I heard there is a way whereby the field could be unbound and one button it the control source for them all. Im not entirely sure what this means or how to go about it. But i think it would solve the problem of if my users start entering data into a record and then decide to leave it, this record is automatically added to the table, with little or no data. As the data in the table is used for statistics, the table showing records which are not actually there is causing problems. Im not sure if i explained this well, but i would be grateful of any help. Thanx

SUM With WHERE, As Control Source

Sep 13, 2005

I have a subform listing items for purchase. Some are services and are not taxable, some are products and are taxable.

So far, I am calculating the sales tax for each record (item paid for), based on whether the thing is taxable or not and putting that result in a text box (txtSales_Tax) on the form. Since these calculated amounts aren't stored in a field, I can't SUM them, since SUM only works on data in table fields. Can someone tell me how to get a total?

Otherwise, I'll get rid of txtSales_Tax entirely, if someone can tell me how to write a SUM function, as a Control Source, that includes an IIf, or a WHERE, so it only adds items where the yes/no field Taxable=True.

I've got an IIf with a SUM function in it but, even in the footer, that only works for the current record. I need a SUM that has a nested IIf or WHERE in order to include all the records.

For example i have a textbox which simply displays the number of current records displayed i.e. =DCount("*", "queryname")

Now i wanted that with the click of a button (or something), i wanted to change it's controlsource to =DCount("*", "queryname2") ... however, as a result i got #name instead of the correct count.
