I have entered one entry in to the database with the correct values (this is record 6) and everytime I enter a new record, the data is the same (I'm using a drop down list) it will automatically appear in the box. But when I goto the table that the data is stored in, each field just has the reference to the first record that the data came from.
Looks a bit like this:
ID Server Name Pattern Engine Program
6 LN1HOME 4.735.00 8.500-1002 5.58.0.1185
7 LN1WORK2 6 6 6
Is there a way of seeing the origonal data in those fields other than the Record ID Number as a reference.
I know its a lame question, Im just is a learning process at the moment.
I use a Access database to import data from an email generated from google docs..When the data imports to the table it creates a "Memo Field" with several lines of carriage seperated data containing the Form Field name & answer. (ie: Firstname=John, Surname=smith, etc)Is there any way to seperate this data in the cell into seperated cells in a new record?
i have a table of articles. A field in the table is ArticleSubject
the ArticleID is made up of 3 letters then 3 numbers. i want the 3 letters to be something according to the subject for example i want the first 3 letters of the ArticleID to be MAT*** (* is a number) if the subject is Maths or ENG*** if the subject is English
the subject is picked from a listbox in the same record
how would i do this in a table . i am reluctant to use append or update queries. but will do so if its the only way.
I have got this form, consisting of 1 form (that needs to add a new record to a table everytime) and 1 subform, that needs to show the last three records of the table.
My problem is that I cannot get it right, now both forms (form and subform) are showing the details on just one record. If I open my subform it shows me all the records of a table, but in as soon as I view the form as a subform I shows me only one record.
Any help is welcome, I attached my db, just in case....
I understand the IIF(), but what's happening with the crazy characters? (It works the text changes from yellow to green). I tried replacing it with conditional formatting on the actual data control. That only changes color when I click on the control. The above shows the color all the time.
I currently have an access database for tracking company assets and performing maintenance tasks on them.We also have a number of Stores Stock Items that are controlled under a separate finance package. We currently have forms that create individually numbered "Job Cards" in the Job Cards Table..we input the data and manually type into a Text Box the we have used 'X' number of Store Stock 'Item Y'
I have then use a query to export the data i need (Job number, dates, location and Store Stock Items). But I have to manually re-construct the data and items into separate lines in an excel sheet for a paste operation into the finance package (lots of typing of 16 digit stock codes)
What i want is to use a second table (linked via the "Job Card#" key).It will be called "Stock Items" which has a separate field for each of our stock items.the user then just opens second form while creating the job that immediately creates a new record. The user then simply has to put the number of each item used in the relevant text box on the form and close.
example of datasheet view Job# __ ItemX __ ItemY 2417_____3_______7
Now, I have all of that working as I want, But i nee to be able to combine the data from each field into a single field (either in access or excel). What I want to see is a field containing 3x ItemX, 7x ItemY, etc
if there are none of one or more items, I don't want anything displayed for that item (blank space is ok)I have 30 or more stock items, so there will be 30 or more columns in the table. the actual data stored in the table is simply the quantity of each item used.
this data is used twofold,on export to Excel I can split the data into new cells and it's used on a despatch note that is returned with the item so the end user can see the items that were used in the repair. So it needs to be done upon saving the record, record by record.
I am trying to write some vba code to auto fill a cell's value based on the value of the cell in the previous record (In a datasheet form) i.e. if the value in record one was '1' and the down-arrow key was pressed then the value '2' should be entered into the new ext record
I have written some pseudo-code to show what I am trying to accomplish:
if keydown = down-arrow and current cell contents isnumeric then Cval = current cell contents if current record = last record then create new record move down 1 record set cell value of new record to cval+1 else move down 1 record if cell value = null then set cell value of record to cval+1 end if end if
I have a form that is based on a query that returns all the students taught by an indidual faculty member. There are two text boxes which I have added to the form bound to a table used in the query. However when I try to add data (attendance data) is doesn't accept it and simply "pings" each time I try.
I've got a database of club members with names, addresses, contact info etc.
I need to send letters by post to those members that I don't have email addresses for. How to create a query to return a list of people whom I don't have email addresses for.
I know how to mail merge the info with the letter I've written in word, how to group people who's email address cell is empty.
I have 2 gig of order data which has duplicates due to different invoice dates. How can I combine the dates into one cell so I only had one row of Order data.
i.e. order number, price, order date, invoice date
same order number, same price, same order date, different invoice date.
How do I combine the second line with the first so that I only have the data once.
Hey guys- Been trying to figure this out, but am stuck. Obviously I'm fairly new to Access...
I have a table of properties and the price those properties sold for. Each property is in a specific area of town. I want to take each record and display the Address, Area of town, Price it sold for, and then the AVERAGE PRICE of all the other properties that sold in that same, specific area (not all the other areas of town, but the same area that the property sold for). The result should be displayed as below-
-Address- -Area- -Sold Price- -Avg Sold Price in Area-
And then it will list every property in the database, each with the same calculation all in one grid/table/dataset.
I figured out how to write a query to average all the sold prices in each area- but I don't know how to display that in conjunction with each record. Can someone throw a hint at me here? Thanks
I d'like to ask for your help in the following issue:
When I step the records on a form clicking on the arrows below I want refresh some field reacting on this event.
How can I refer to this event in Visual Basic? And how can I bind the VB program to the form? (Because - as I know - there's no field on the properties box for this purpose)
(Or if you know an event equivalent to this record stepping, I think it would do as well)
I've got a piece of VBA scripting which runs as an event linked to a button on my MS Access form.
I maintain a database of members of staff at my organisation. It's pretty outdated...
I'm basically wanting to pull in their updated data (extracted from on our payroll system) from a spreadsheet, into a form, when clicking a button on a particular person's record.
The function "CStr(DDERequest())" converts the cell number into the readable data, however I seem to have whitespace below the value.
What would I need to do to strip out this whitespace? Would I use strtrim? If so, I am unsure of the syntax... how would I incorporate strtrim into the above?
I have a form that has a combo box (box1), Its row source is from a table (table1) than the forms record source (query1). The data box1 sources is from column1 in table1.
I then have a text box (box2). I need it so when i select a record in box1 (from column1) that it displays the corresponding data in that same record (and table) but from column2
Example:
A table has a column with equations and another column with the answer.
I select "1+1" in the combo box Then in the text box it displays "2"
I have an access database with 8 tables and as many queries and forms. Our company uses an application that performs backups of other companies data, this data is imported into access into one table. The backups are scheduled to run overnight, but sometimes they do not start for whatever reason. We need to use a query to identify when a backup does not start, so therefore to identify when data does not appear or exist in the table.
This problem is only concerned with two tables. In one table i have the backups policies (Backup Policy) and the details about when the backup should run. In the other, the main table (Backup) is the actual data that has been imported. So far I have queried only the backup policies that should run, but i need to go one step further and compare this to data in the Backup table that does not exist.
Im not sure whether this should be a bit of code in the query that compares data in the Backup Policy table with that in the Backup table when it is not present.
Ideally i need something that says. "If a particular policy name does not appear in any record in the Backup table, report back a list of policy names."
OR
(Lookup a list of policy names in table backup policy,
if these policy names do not appear in the backup table, report back a list of the policy names,
if these policy names appear in the backup table, do not report back a list of the policy names)
If anyone has any ideas if this is possible, and how, I would be most grateful. Also, if it involves the use of code or functions etc I may need a little bit of guidance!!
Let me know if you need any more details of the table structures.
I have a query on a form that is providing all of the information I need for everything on my form.
The problem is I don't know how to refer to a field's value in the query in VBA without having a hidden text field on the form.
I know I can reference a combo box's query to include criteria such as [Forms]![cboSelectStudent] if the control is actually on the form, but how would I refer to a value in the form's query that doesn't have a control on the form.
I've been searching for everything I can think to call this but haven't been able to come up with anything.
Need to generate a unique reference number each record wise while data entering by a form. How to do this by using a command button ? After entering all fields related to the record, when click on the command button, unique reference number for that record need to be generated and save with all other data of the records. in a later event, need to recall the record by using this reference number and also need to make relation ship with some other table by using the reference number.
I want the user to be able to see the source/reference of (many of) the different data points in my database, so I need to store sources/references in the database itself. I want to have all references in one single/common table (list of references). Each reference may be the source of many data points, in different columns in a given table, and in different tables. Is this possible, and can it be done in an elegant way?
I am new to this and i may be going about this the wrong way but what i am doing seems to do the job until now.
I am making a form that has a combo box, a few text boxes and a subform subreport on it.
The idea is that the first thing a user does is to select a name form the combo box. this name is then stored as a sring and used to set the forms record source and then the subform's (called window) source object. the string is slightly modified during the process to do this. That part works fine.
The problem arose when i included text boxes to show infomation from the selected Query thatisant show in the window (subform).
After the user selects a name and the name is used to set up the record source and the source object for the text boxes.it then displays in the text boxes the records extra data. however it only displays the first row extra data. And when other rows in the query table are selected the data in the text box stays set as the first row.
I know that this is because i haven't programed in an event that makes the text box data update when the user selects a new row.
i also realise that i would need to have some way of know what row of the quiery table the user is looking at to be able to update the text boxes.
my questions are
Is there a way to tell what row of a query table in the subform is selected ?
Is there an event similar to on selection of row or something like that that i could use to reload the text boxes?
Can an Excel spreadsheet reference an Access Table for it's data? Sort of like a vlookup, but instead of referencing another spreadsheet, I'd like to pull data in from a database.
I want Access to automatically generate a reference number for a record based on the values in on two other fields for a given record using a form.
The first field is called Operation Number.
The second is Bag Number.
The reference number needs to be in this format: 19C.3.1
Where 19C is the Operation Number, 3 is the bag number, and 1 is automatically generated. Additionally I need the last number --the automatically generated one--to go back to 1 if with each new bag number.
This is kind of like library catalog numbers. Not sure how to do this.
