Ok this is a weird issue that has been troubling me, On some computers that I have, Access refuses to open databases through a shortcut. The only way to open any databases is to first open access the go to file open.
I've tried creating new shortcuts, as well as mapping a drive and making a shortcut from there...but nothing is working. Is there a setting that access has to preven this? The same database can be opened on different computer without a hitch....
I was wondering if i could get some help here. I think this is to do with the security issue. I usually double-click to open or run an access file (for example student.mdb) that sits on the server with no problem. But this time, nothing happen when i did double-clicked on it from my laptop while the file was being open by someone'else on another computer. I know that it makes sense that we shouldn't open a file that's being used by other users. But my curiosity is that should it not give you a warning like (you know) you're not able to save any changes or things like that. No, i didnot get any of that messages. It's just nothing happen after trying to open it by double-clicking it.
I have set the macro security to low level but that did not help either. Is there any thing that i need to tweak?
I'm beginning to think it is a windows issue and not access issue. I have a couple of users that weren't able to click on the form shortcuts on thier desktop. They had been able to use them earlier in the day, but later double clicking them would not bring up Access. I had them use Window's explorer and try to click on the MDB file to bring up access, but that also didn't work. But launching Access directly, then open existing files, would open up the database for them.
Rebooting let them use the shortcuts.
Any idea what might cause this? They have been using the application for a couple of months without mishap until today.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before. If so, how did you fix it?
I have a database that is used in academic labs by student workers. In order for them to open the database they have to double click on the actual file via a network folder. This works for all but one computer. It will only open the file if they open Access first. It seems very strange to me seeing as other computers in that same lab (all the same image) will open it via double clicking. I have googled till my eyes bled but haven't found a solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
We have an access Database stored on a server that until now was only ever accessed by the one user. Now more users need to access it at the same time. However when a second user trys to open the database the error message "File Already in use appears". I did not create this database so have no idea how it was set up. I think it may have something to do with being opened up exclusively. Is there anyway around this by creating a short cut or changing any kind of propertties?
I am trying to build a simple form to add data to a table. One of the fields on the table is for Shortcuts to other documents held on the server / computer, but I can't seem to be able to either paste or add a shortcut to the relevant field in the Form.
Am I trying to do something which can't be done or am I missing something ?
I hope this is the right forum for such a question, if not I apologize in advance.
I have an application that is being used by six people. When the newest version of it was built, I altered the desktop shortcut on everyone's PC to point to the newest version. Four of these shortcuts still work, but two are behaving somewhat erratically.
In the case of these two, clicking on the shortcut sometimes opens the older version of the application. I have recreated the shortcuts and they work for a while, before reverting to the older link. Going to the application via Explorer works fine.
While I am getting more comfortable with VBA, this area is outside anything I know. Could someone advise me on what affects whether shortcuts work or not? Do they automatically 'refresh'? If so, when?
In case it's relevant, everyone here is using the same versions of both XP and Access and everyone has access to the same drives.
I am using access a lot these days, and try to use keyboard shortcuts where possible (leave that mouse alone....), so does anyone know a way to get to the FILTER menu when viewing a form using the keyboard...i.e without having to right click on the field and then click in the FILTER FOR box.
In more detail, the form looks like a table, and I may want to filter on one field, then sub-filter on another etc.....
Then also a shortcut to REMOVE the filters would be good too.....
If I have to create buttons on the form with code behind that ok.
I am very close to completing a DB Program.... How can I create a desktop Icon that will Launch my Program without Loading Microsoft Access along with it???
Is there a way to prevent users from making a shortcut to a database? I have my database split and I want users to copy the front end and paste it on their desktop. However, there is a high turnover rate among the people who will be using this database. As a result, I'm concerned that the instructions to copy and paste the database may not be passed along. I would like to avoid the possibility of someone making a shortcut to this database.
I would also like to prevent users from relocating the database by inadvertently dragging and dropping it in a new folder. The only person who should be able to move the database or work directly in the master copy of the front end is the person designated at the "admin" in my Users table (that would be myself and one other person). Is any of this possible?
I am trying to setup a webpage for people to update access 2000 db using FP2000 and DRW. I do not want update all fields in a record though - a couple of them are static. I have been unable to do this. I am using code lifted from another page and DB that does exactly the same thing for the update. I either get the error data type mismatch, or I should provide default values for all form related fields, or no records get updated. Is there anyone who can point me inthe right direction? Thanks, Tim
I have a form whose fields are calculated based off VBA code, including fuctions, SQL, etc. Because of the nature of my form, I cannot save the calculations to a table before exporting to and excel spreadsheet.
When I use the File>Export feature of Access and save to and Excel format, I am not able to change the format of my numbers in Excel. For example, I have tried to highlight some of my exported numbers, right-click, and change the format to currency in Excel (or even decimal places). In order for excel to change the format, I have to select the cell, place my cursor in the edit window, and hit enter.....then the format will change.....is there any way to avoid this?
Please let me know if this isn't clear, and I'll attempt to explain it better.
I have a form which has a links to a table of student ID's. I also have a project folder where images and documents are loaded into. These can be jpegs, bitmaps, gifs, office files (all types) etc
The files are named by the user and dropped into the folder. The name relates to the student ID. For example student: 3001 can have multiple files: 3001.jpg, 3001.doc, 3001.ppt etc.
When each record (student ID) is displayed on screen I need a list box (or something) to display the files associated with this student ID. Then, if possible, the user can double click on the file(s) to open them in the computers default program.
I'd be really grateful for any help on this one. It's got me baffled. I'm only a starter to VBA.
I'm trying to import about 18 excel spreadsheets into one database in Access. I've been using "get external data" to import the spreadsheets as tables, and the first 8 of them worked fine, but now I cannot import any more excel files. The only error message I'm getting is "An error occurred trying to import file 'C:....xls' The file was not imported." And this error pops up after I have gone through all of the importing steps. Did I exhaust Access's resources? It's not a format issue, and I've restarted, etc. I'm at a loss.
I am trying to clean up one field of a large database. Currently this field has many records that are listed as "XXXX, Inc.". I am trying to find a way to change all of those to "XXXX Inc" in the entire database.
I saw raskews code snippet on changing multiple characters in a string, but I have to admit I have only use VBA in Excel before and having a hard time with the basics.
Does anyone have some code or ideas on how to do this or something similar?
Edit:I just realised i had accidently writted the title as (to do with importing access data) it should read (to do with importing excel data)This is going to be a trick hard to understand question but I will try my best to explain itI have a database set out in the following wayhttp://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1350/databasetableli1.pngThe way it works is; Let's pretend Access Programmers is a company and working on different forums is a different jobSo on one record it would readJames.90| Access Programmers|Tables Forum| Wed=3= Mon=2Then the record below might readJames.90| Access programmers | Forms Forum| mon=5 tue=6So each record is one unique company,Project and CTR which the person has worked for that week meaning if you only work on one forum you would only write one record out each weekNow the data i am receiving is in an excel file where it's set out in a daily basis Where One Day Date|Name|Company|CTR|etcSo if a person works 5 days a week on 2 companies each day that is 10 records when it should only be 2 recordsSo to sum it up. My database is set out weekly and the excel data is set out dailyMy questionWhat would be the best way to convert this data into the database. Changing the database structure around is not an option and i can't change the format we recieve the excel data in. I can change it once i have the file thorough a converter but i can't change the raw source of the dataWhat would be a way to solve this problem because i am completly stummted and am open to any option of converting or anythingThankyou for your time. Also if you have trouble understanding what i mean Please say so and i will upload a copy of the database and a copy of the excel sheet!
Hello, I have getting type conversion errors for numeric and currency fields when importing an Ecxel spreadsheet into a Table in Access. I have tried changing the data type to text in Excel, and that is what it says I have done when I examine the field formats in question. How can I force this to be text, it keeps reverting, i.e. the fields in question, to numeric and currency. Can anyone help? Thank you. Joe
I have a database (.mdb file) which includes a table, forms and VB code. I intend on putting it onto a CD and then opening the form on another computer which may not have Access. Is this possible? Can I convert the file or can I attach some type of reader to the disk? I have seen some software for download on the internet which allows you to open the tables however the Form is the most important thing in this case (but I take it whatever I use, it will need to be able to view the VB, subforms and tables as well since the Form depends on them?).
...also can I install an auto-run to the file for when the disk is inserted? (this is not a major issue though).
I'm not sure if this is even possible but I have a table which has a list of Categories(text) and another field named filepath(also text) which contains a file path which points to specific pdfs. So my question is Can I create a report which then prints the categories with a button next to them which if clicked on opens the coresponding pdf ?
Any help will really be apreciated I am a database novice but am really good at following instructions and copying code :)
I have a question. I have a button on a form. When I press that button, another database should be opened.
I tried this:
Dim dbMyDB As Database Dim rsMyRS As Recordset Set dbMyDB = OpenDatabase("C:DocumentenJohnnyStyle_be.mdb") Set rsMyRS = dbMyDB.OpenRecordset("nslArtikel", dbOpenDynaset)
Hi - I have built a web page which holds links to Word,Excel & Access files. I have the .doc & .xls files opening as I want but when I link to a DB file Access opens in a reduced (small)window. Is there a way to force the Access application to open maximised - before the DB file loads? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks RussG
I've been developing in Access 2002-2003, and now have Access 2007. I can open a 2002-3 .mdb database OK, but when I click on the Main Menu buttons, nothing happens -- they do not work. So I cannot access any of the existing Menus and Forms. In fact, none of the previously existing databases I tried will open/close Forms using the existing buttons. Any ideas?
i have a word doc that is built by code. at the end, after the doc is completely built, i save the doc and kill my word object. what i want to do is be able to launch the doc automatically for the user, but still be able to kill the code object used to create the doc. what i currently have, which obviously doesn't open the doc, is as follows: Code:wrd.ActiveDocument.SaveAs sOutputDir & sHeader & ".doc"wrd.ActiveDocument.Closewrd.QuitSet wrd = Nothing i can't figure out how to get word to open with my doc. i'm sure i'm overlooking something simple, but does anyone have ideas for me on this?
