Truncated Memo - Transfer Spreadsheet

Apr 21, 2006

I am using

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, , qName, wFilepath, True

to export a query to a spreadsheet. I am using this method as it seems to solve the problem of memo fields being truncated.

It seems however that using this method if the spreadsheet file already exists (and is of a differant structure) nothing happens and no error is thrown.

Is this correct? - Thanks Paul

Truncated Memo Field On Export!

Feb 10, 2006

Hello! I have a problem resulting from some previous issues I had with a memo field, and you can see the original problem here: http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=464184#post464184

I'm starting a new thread because I have a somewhat unrelated problem with the same query. I have a memo field that has quite a few characters...as many as 15,000 characters or more! After running some commands to trim the spaces out of the memo field, I'm trying to export a query with the memo field to a text file. The query is a Select query that matches the memo field with the appropriate order detail from another table where each record has the same order number. All of the tables are actually links to tables on a SQL server.

The query works perfectly. But, when I try to export as a tab-delimited text file, the memo field gets truncated after about 512 characters or so. To clarify my steps, I am right-clicking on the query, select Export, select a Text file from the drop-down box, then select Delimited, Tab, Include Field Names on First Row, and the Text Qualifier is {none}. Please help me! I am using Access 2003 SP2. Thanks so much in advance!!

Memo Field Is Truncated By Query

Mar 14, 2007

I am using a 'memo' field in a table because the field size needs to be more than the maximum for a 'text' field (255 characters).

Although the text appears in full in the table, when I run a query to select certain records from that table the text in the memo field is truncated to 255 characters.

Anyone know how to correct this?

Importing Data From Excel To Memo Field In Access Is Truncated After 255 Characters

Nov 16, 2007

I haven't seen anyone run into this particular problem on this forum...

I'm importing data from an excel spreadsheet to an MS Access (2007) table. One of the fields in the table is a text memo field able to support more than 255 characters...

Issue:
The issue is that any cell in Excel that is greater than 255 characters is truncated when imported to MS Access even though the field is a memo field. There isn't any documentation on Microsoft's website about this and I don't see any way to work around it other than manually copying the data from excel to MS Access.

Anyone have any input on this matter?

Thanks in advance!

Transfer Spreadsheet

Jul 27, 2007

I have a database scheduled to run nightly. In this database I have a macro that runs a macro. I want one of the arguments to export "T_Update_Log" from the database to an excel file as part of it's nightly macro. When I use "Transfer Spreadsheet" in my macro, it creates a new worksheet in my excel file each night (for example: T_Update_Log1, T_Update_Log2, etc) Instead, I want it to overwrite existing one.

I have also tried "Export" command, but that throws a prompt asking if I want to overwrite the existing excel file. I cannot have any message prompts during my nightly task or else it will stop the whole process. Setting the Warnings to No does not stop this particular message prompt.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Transfer Spreadsheet Command Access 97

Jul 19, 2005

This problem seems crazy to me.......

If I create a macro with a single entry consisting of Transferspreadsheet from a single Access table to Excel it exports perfectly. When I call Transferspreadsheet from VBA code it moves some of the data and puts them into seemingly random Excel spreadsheet columns why is this?

This issue first came about when we had to export a table with more than 65,000 records in and so I export using a table name "Sheet1" , "Sheet2" as needed but surely the table name that it comes from makes no odds?

Any help appreciated!

Regards,

Neil

Modules & VBA :: Transfer Spreadsheet To New Instance Of Excel

Dec 30, 2014

I just want to run a series of DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet commands to export several queries to one Excel Workbook with seperate sheet names for each query.

However my problem is I want this to be a new instance of Excel that the user will then SaveAs after it is complete. I don't want to save it to a specific path first because the Db is on a shared drive and My Documents will have a different path for each user based on their user name. (corporate environment)

There must be some way to just have it open a new workbook without saving isn't there??

Citrix, Access And A Transfer Spreadsheet Export Problem

Jan 18, 2006

Hi.

I developed a db on a local verison of Access 2003 (saved in Access 2000 format). It works great thanks to much help from this forum.

I recently moved the db to a server and tested how it worked when using Access 2000 on a citrix platform. This is important since the users of the db will be using this accursed platform. A few things (vba functions) broke but I deleted the affected code. However, one thing 'broke' that I can't eliminate.

When I click a button on one form I have a transfer spreadsheet command run to export the output of a query to a particular xls file/location. However, in the citrix environment I get an error message "Formats that enable export as html, xls, or rtf are missing from the windows registry".

I'm guessing this has something to do with the citrix server setup. Is there anything I can do on my end to avoid this problem or, as I fear, am I stuffed?

Cheers,
Craig

Reports :: Using Transfer Spreadsheet Command To Output Data In Query To Excel 2010 Format File

Aug 18, 2015

I'm working with Access 2010 and am trying to use the transferspreadsheet command to output data in a query to an Excel 2010 format file. Here is the line of code:

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel12, "q_calldetails_tmp", "c: emp estoutput.xlsx"

It works fine and produces the output file but when I try and open it with Excel I get an error saying the format is incorrect. If I change the extension to .xls it opens with no problem but I need it to be an Excel 2010 format with correct extension.

Column Value Gets Truncated, Any Type Conversion Needed?

Feb 26, 2008

Hi Gurus, need your help yet again.
I have a linked table in Access 2007(link back to SQL Server), and when i look into the values of a 'Memo' Column called "Column_1" in Access, it is just fine.
Now, In a query I am doing the following IIF statement:

Expr1: IIF([table_1].[Column_2]="Cost",[table_1].[Column_1]

But when i see the values of Column_1 now, some of the ending characters are being cut off, i only get half of the entire text.
Should i be doing any type-casting or anything to bring the entire text?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kon

Tables :: Truncated Long Text Field?

Oct 9, 2013

I have been using Access 2013 to make a database which outputs values to PowerPoint. Everything has been working fine up to now that I'm trying to add to the presentation.

I have two tables with data in which are both brought together in a query which my VBA code relates to to output it to Powerpoint. Both tables contain data in 'long text' fields. The data from one outputs into PowerPoint textboxes without any issues regardless of the length of the data but the data from the other one is truncated to 255 characters. It definitely says it is a 'long text' field - is there any reason it would truncate the output?

Tables :: Field Value Got Truncated - Data Type For Storing Long Text?

Mar 10, 2014

I have encountered an issue when I was inserting a string (with newlines about 176 characters) into access table. This field in access has the data type TEXT and it was truncated after the insertion. It is strange because I have three other fields with the same format and no truncation at all. May I know what could be the reason and how/what is the recommend data type for storing long text?

Create Table From Truncated Info From Other Table

Oct 20, 2006

I'm a relative newbie to the more advanced features available to Access.

If someone could help me or point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

I have one table that contains companies and associated contact info. Each company can have more than one unique number ID (3 digit alphanumeric).

I want to take this table and run a query to create a new table that will only have one instance of each company name, along with the other contact information. The unique ID's aren't needed in this table (but it would be great if I could somehow toss them in, too).

This new table would then be used to create a form with a combo box containing all of the names to quickly jump to their contact info.

Any and all help would be appreciated. If a query isn't the best avenue for this, then please point me in that direction, too.

Thanks!

Transfer Of A Value

Jan 27, 2005

You'll have to forgive me I kinda new at this. I have a form with a non linked subform on it. The main form has one control on it called CustomerID, the subform's record source is from a select query that is updated by a cmdButton on the main form. The cmdButton runs an update query. One of the controls in the subform is called CustomerID, this control has no other purpose than to hold the same value that the main forms control (CustomerID) has. I want the cmdButton's OnClick event to transfer the value from the mainform CustomerID and place it into the subform CustomerID. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

How To Transfer Data

Sep 8, 2005

Hi there,

This is my problem i am going to try and explain myself as clearly as possiable hopefull you will be able to understand me.

When i enter my data bank through Access, a mask opens or is it a form i am not too sure but i have sent an attachment with the sceen image.

Lets say i am looking for the data of John. I click on search and i find him. Now my Mask or form has sub forms in them for diffent information, i have made a large red circle on the attached picture to show what exactly i am talking about. These sub folders contain information such as gernerall information, bussiness information etc.

All this information ... data is part of john 's dataset or data record. SO what i want to do is take his data all of it and send it to john himself and he then can edit it and send it back to me and i want to check it and if i am satisfied with the data i can update the new information automatically into my database. and i want to beable to edit it myself too. i want all his data to be like a data book of john. The editing can take place it any problem such as Accesss itself or word or excell i just wan to be able to edit and transfer my data without damaging or loosing information.

My probles are as follows:

1) how to send john's information all of it
2) how to add it back to my database both automacticly and manuelly
3) how to edit his data as a whole, not bits and pices. as if it was one long report.

Thanks i hope i was clear enough

Data Transfer

Jan 24, 2007

Evening Gents.

I've created a database which is going to need a fair amount of data uploading into it (a long laborious procedure).

My initial plan to cut the work load for one person was to create 2copies of the database and split the upload in half (get two people to do it).

However, one of my tables is a parent to around 4 childs, therefore when i copy the information from this parent table in datasheet view from one db to another, it doesnt transfer it's associated data.

Is there anyway to get around this? Any advice/tips/hints would be much appreciated

(hope this has made sense, please let me know if clarification is needed)

Transfer Database

Nov 29, 2007

Im stuck on a project that I have received help on before. I am trying to E-Mail a daily report created by a macro in Access 2000. It needs to go out as an excel spreadsheet, but in a format that can be opened in a Blackberry. The advise i was given was to use Transferdatabase. This is where i become unstuck. No matter what I type where i come unstuck. Is there anyone out there that can possibly advise me what to do in "idiot proof" steps?
Im afraid my knowledge of Access is limited to 2 weeks self taught knowhow ?

Transfer Data DB To DB

Dec 14, 2007

I need to set up an automated process to transfer data from about 25 tables from one database to another. This will happen on a weekly basis and I'm wondering what the best way to set this up is.

Both are Access 03 db files. The main database has data for a dozen or so clinics and I need to get the data for one clinic out and in to the the secondary db. The data in the secondary db will be replaced every week with fresh data from the main db. Once it is refreshed with new data the clinic will download the db from our site.

My first thought is to just export queries to CSV files and then import them in to the secondary db file. If run from a macro it could be a scheduled task. I could then import the CSV files. This could also be automated with a macro.

Any other ideas.
