I have a table which essentially is:
- Category
- Item #
- Sales $
I'm looking for a query that will tell me the count of items that make up 80% of the sales per category (probably would have to use a subquery here). So if my table was:
item #, sales $
1, $10
2, $8
3, $6
4, $5
5, $1
Total sales = $30
80% of total = $24
The number of items needed to get to 80% of total sales = 3
Is there any easy way to do this in a query?

Hi,
I've been going round in circles a bit with this, read a lot of interesting stuff posted, but can't quite answer my problem.
I have a query that returns 2012 records showing the project phase for every Employee assignment. How do I group & count the records so that I get the number of projects in each phase for each employee?
My group and count attempts so far have either reduced the record set to 79 (the number of employees with assignments) or simply returned a "1" for each record.
Any pointers appreciated.
Regards,

I need to run a count of the number of records in a Query within my VBA code. Basically,
if the count of the number of records within a query is 0, then the code runs and if not, the code breaks and the user is left with an error message.
Problem is, I don't know how to reference the count of a query within VBA.

I have a form which contains a listbox. It is a multi-select listbox. And I have a button on the form which runs a report. But I want the report to only show the selected records from the listbox. The report gets its records from an underlying query. But how do I make the selected records on the listbox become the query criteria?

I have a form where a user reviews information input by another user, once they have done this they sign it off by selecting their name from a drop down list. On this form there is a scrolling message which tells the user how many un-signed entries there are. This works fine until there are 0 (zero) entries to be signed off.
The scrolling message is linked to a count query which basically counts any records that does not have a name entered in the required field. I have done this with ' Not Like "*" '
Like I say it works when there is one or more entries to count, but as soon as there are none the query does not output a zero it is just blank. This is the problem.
I need some sort of statement to say if there are no matching records please display a zero.
Any help would be much appreciated!

I have a stock record database which I have 'inherited' from someone far cleverer than me!
I'm fairly used to basic SQL, but I'm teating by hair out over this particular problem.
I'm writing an Update Query to count the number of [NewModelCode] records WHERE Status ='Available' AND StockType = 'New' AND InstStockReference.OnlineShop = Yes and update a field called CountNew on a table called InstStockReference..
So far I have the following SQL:
UPDATE InstrumentStock INNER JOIN InstStockReference ON InstrumentStock.NewModelCode = InstStockReference.NewModelCode
SET InstStockReference.CountNew = DCount("NewModelCode","InstrumentStock","Status='Available'")
WHERE (((InstrumentStock.Status)="Available") AND ((InstrumentStock.StockType)="New") AND ((InstStockReference.OnlineShop)=Yes));
It partly works, but the result I get is a column count of 939 in every field where the Status ='Available' AND StockType = 'New' AND InstStockReference.OnlineShop = Yes.
I want to do a count the number of [NewModelCode] records.
Something's gone wrong? Any ideas?

If I have a table called "Calls" with an autonumber and another field with names for stores like this:
1 Hobby Mart
2 Peter's Store
3 Hobby lobby
4 Hobby Mart
5 Peter's Store
How can I build a query to count the number of different store names?
For example, in this case I need the query to return the number 3.

I'm trying to do a query to count corresponding records in another table. It works except for returning zeros. I've tried using NZ and switching the type of join, but to no avail.
Here's what I have:
Query A has 3 columns (FU kids)
AlphaID
DtcCtr (a Location Code)
DlsDtc (a Date of change)
Table A has many columns, but I'm only using a few. (dbo_MNCPSTNote)
AlphaID
DtcCtr (the same Location Code)
ServDate (the date I'm trying to count)
Here's what I have:
SELECT [FU kids].AlphaID, [FU kids].DtcCtr, Count(dbo_MNCPSTNote.ServDate) AS CountOfServDate
FROM dbo_MNCPSTNote RIGHT JOIN [FU kids] ON dbo_MNCPSTNote.AlphaID = [FU kids].AlphaID
WHERE (((dbo_MNCPSTNote.Center)=[FU kids]![DtcCtr])) OR (((dbo_MNCPSTNote.ServDate)>[FU kids]![DlsDtc]))
GROUP BY [FU kids].AlphaID, [FU kids].DtcCtr;
I want to know the count, including zero, of the number of records based on ServDate for each AlphaID in Query A.
I didn't create the tables and have no control over how they are designed/organized.

I have records using a select query that I am sending to a make table. I would like to have those records excluded from being used again for 180 days, at which point they can be used again. Essentially, I have an ID and an email address which gets stored in the Make Table. I would need to ensure that if we send an email out in Week 1, we do not send an email again for another 180 days if there is activity from that same ID. On day 181, the ID/email address can then be resent.

I am setting up a database to hold staff details, and would like a query to show each member of staff's total hours and FTE.
Staff name etc is in tblStaff
Staff shift details are in tblShifts linked via staffID
tblShifts will contain details of the shift worked on each day of the week, but the majority of our staff work a standard shift - e.g 8-4, 9-5. Therefore what I wanted to do was in tblStaff set a field named shiftPattern to 1 2 3 or 4. 1 indicating a custom shift, and any other number indicating a set shift defined in a separate table.
The problem I have is that my query only returns people who have details in tblShifts - regardless of their shiftPattern value. If I enter a blank record in tblShifts it will do the above as intended.

I am trying to make a crosstab query to filter my records from my table.
Here is the scenario.
I want to make a query that will return me my Rep ID, Rep Name, his Bonus and his GV-Q (another value) based on every month.
Now I make a crosstab query and here is the syntax.
Code:
TRANSFORM First([TBL Qualification Data India].[Bonus Rank]) AS [FirstOfBonus Rank]
SELECT [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep #], [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep Name]
FROM [TBL Qualification Data India]
GROUP BY [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep #], [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep Name]
PIVOT [TBL Qualification Data India].Period;
This resulted in a column for Rep Number, one column for Rep Name and columns for all the period of Bonus I am going to have., so there are basically 9 columns for this till this month for each month and bonus value shows as values for all these month (period) columns.
Now in this same syntax, I want to have my Rep GV-Q value as well as his bonus to show in the same query, I read and came to know that it's not possible to directly have two values or two column headings in a crosstab query, I must have to make a new crosstab query and then use a normal select query to display records from these two crosstab queries, so I went ahead and made a new similar but with one value field changed crosstab query and here is the syntax for that.
Code:
TRANSFORM First([TBL Qualification Data India].[GV-Q]) AS [FirstOfGV-Q]
SELECT [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep #], [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep Name]
FROM [TBL Qualification Data India]
GROUP BY [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep #], [TBL Qualification Data India].[Rep Name]
PIVOT [TBL Qualification Data India].Period;
Now after this how to make a select query to show the data from these two queries.
I can make a normal query based on these two crosstab queries and manually add all fields and then I would have my result but then after every month I have to manually enter these two extra month details from both crosstab queries to my final query and that's not what I want.
Is there any method to do this by gathering data from these two queries into one and achieve the result I want or if there is any other approach to tackle this.
To explain my database and my need for output, I am attaching few pics to make things easier if I made some mistakes in explaining my problem. It's included in attached zip since I am not able to post images or links.

I have a table tblBookings.
In this table it has a bookingID, CustomerID and some other none relevant details.
The CustomerID comes from table tblCustomer. i.e a customerID must exist in the customer table to be allowed in the bookings table tblBookings
A customer can exist in tblCustomer without existing in the booking table.
I am trying to write a query that will list each and every customer ID in the tblCustomer and count the number of bookings that that customer has (even if it is zero).
I have a query that will count the bookings if they exist in the booking table and display the number of times that a customer appears in the bookings table.
SELECT tblBookings.CustomerID, Count(tblBookings.CustomerID) AS NoOfBookings
FROM tblBookings
GROUP BY tblBookings.CustomerID;
How do I create a query that will do this but list all customers even if they don't exist in the bookings table (but obviously occur in the customers table)
I am trying to create a similar query where all bookings per hotel are listed even if no bookings are made for that hotel. I am guessing the answer is the same as above.
The Ritz. Bookings 0
The Hilton. Bookings 3
The Carlton. Bookings 0
The Lowry. Bookings 2
For every hotel.
That kind of thing.
If you need more information please shout.

While there are lots of detailed issues discussed and resolved here, my problem is at a much higher level. Here's what I want to do.
I want to generate records in a file based on the user entering some 9 different values. The first two values will be used to get records from file A (they are a partial key). The values from the records in file A, plus the other values entered by the user will be used to generate records in file B. I hope this is clear enough.
I have created a query which prompts the user for each field and does the job just fine, but I want to replace the 9 individual prompts with a single form which allows the use of combo boxes for the partial key and a date picker for the single date field.
I've fluffed through creating a form with unbound controls to suit and even worked out a form of cascading combo box for the partial key, but I am struggling to find the best way to make a button at the bottom generate those records.
A nice optional would be to then display the added records (i.e. another query I guess).
Can somebody give me some pointers as to how to approach this? I've done very little in the way of Access programming, being mostly an SQL guy.
Thanks.

I am creating a simple inventory db. I have a form that we enter into the table inventory. Right now we enter in everything once as inventory, then again to out to coating or ship to customer. I’m looking for the code to create a button enter the record twice but make two fields change.
So in short terms I want the form to enter a record with all the data as displayed. Then create another record with all the same data but the quantity would need to change to a negative and the Status would change to “Coating”.
I know this code won't work but this is what I want to do.
Private Sub Command78_Click()
.AddNew
!Employee = Me!Combo68
!Material = Me!Combo48
!Length = Me!Combo29
!Caliber = Me!Combo31
[code].....

I have a table with quite a number of records.
In this table I have a field [Qnumber], which gives me a sequential number.
The field size is Long Integer. So my records are numbered 1, 2, 3, ....n
What I want to achieve is to select only the even numbered records in this table, i.e. Qnumber = 2, 4, 6, ...... etc.
I can't find a way to do this.
Would appreciate any help on this.
