View RepliesI have seen some API that gets the serial of the hard drive, but this information is not unique and changes when the volume is formated.
Does any one know of a way to return the orignal manufucture's information/serial which is unique(GUID) to the volume.
Any Idea will be highly appreciated.
I've saved my Access files (as well as my Word files) to an external hard drive. I can open any Word doc from the hard drive, but when I try to open an Access file, it gives me the following error message: "can't find Language DLL msain.dll". What does that mean, and how can I fix it so that I can open an Access file from the hard drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have any experience with placing a multi-user back-end access database on one of these inexpensive "external network hard drives"?
I have a situation where I'd like to share my database with multiple users, but the corporate IM rats have pretty much eliminated all means of allowing us lowly employees of doing that with their network. We have no file server. We do have sharepoint services, but we only have Access 2000, which as far as I know is not capable of exploiting the sharepoint/xml back-end database features. Also, no one in the office here can share a directory on their workstation because they won't grant us administrator priveledges.
So thats how I came upon the idea of buying or creating cheap (<$250 USD) wireless network hard-drive on which to put the back-end. I'm mainly interested in knowing if it will work, and that the performance isn't going to be absolutely pathetic. I'm only looking at having 3 or 4 users at any one time, and the entire database will only house a couple thousand records.
Hello, I was needing some help coming up with the code to search the local hard drive and grab a file and then import it into an Access table. I'm trying to do this on a form if possible. If you know of another way, that would work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy workaround was to temporarily map the URL to a vacant drive letter on the local machine, then copy the file over, then drop the mapped drive again. A bit clunky but doesn't incorporate much of a delay and this download only has to happen once per day.
The good news is, the file download / copy now works every time. The bad news is that removing the temporarily mapped drive after the copy has taken place, doesn't and I can't figure out why.
Here are the functions I use to map / unmap the drive :
Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Private Const RESOURCETYPE_ANY = &H0&
Private Const CONNECT_UPDATE_PROFILE = &H1&
Private Const RESOURCE_CONNECTED As Long = &H1&
[Code] .....
I have separate functions to check existing drive mappings on the local machine and thus determine an appropriate vacant letter to use for the temporary mapping - they work fine.
Unfortunately the UnMapDrive function returns False (even though I switch the active drive to C: and force the connection to be cancelled with the fForce flag) So the mapping always remains on the users profile.
I don't want to permanently map drives on the users' profiles, just briefly for the purposes of this daily file download.
Hi all
Built an Access database using A2k3 but using the A2k format.
Having more or less completed the Database, I have tried it on several PC's that I have round the office here.
All works fine except for one form.
It works perfectly well on Access 2003 and also on Access 2000 version, but for some reason it wont work on on Access 2002.
I have added the screen shots. Anyone with any ideas?
Hi all, I have created a database for work in Access2003. I have two questions. The first is, many people at the work place use AC97 and some use AC2000. In order for everyone to use the database, i have saved it in AC97 format. It seems to open fine in Ver2000 and 2003, but i get this nag screen on load up with these versions saying "do you wish to convert the database". As I'm working off a shared drive, i don't really want anyone converting the dbase. Is there a way to disable this nag screen when loading in AC2000 and AC2003??
Second question, is it possible to have more than one instance of the database open at anytime? . If I've got the database open, my colleague can't open it. Its a simple database that writes records directly to a table. Thanks for any advice.
A few months ago I installed Office 2007 on my home PC and uninstalled Office 2003.
I am contemplating the re-installation of ACCESS 2003 on my home PC, but don't want to disturb my Office 2007 install.
QUESTION: Is it possible to have both versions of ACCESS (2003 & 2007) on my PC without creating problems for myself?
NOTE: I have two hard drives on my PC (C drive, the newer one; and E drive from my last PC). Perhaps I should install ACCESS 2003 on the E drive?
Hello,
I have two questions related to deplying an Access project I have been working on.
1. I started developing the project in Access 2000, but midway upgraded to Office 2003 and so the remainder of the project has been developed in Access 2003. Things seem to be fine, except that in the top most title bar, after the project name, there appears the following text:
xxxxx: Database (Access 2000 file format)
where xxxx is the name of the .mdb file.
Why is this appearing and should I have done something or do something to make it a Access 2003 format?
2. I am at the point of deplying the db to a small group of users (about 5). Some of them may have Access 2000 or Access 2002. Should I be doing something in particular to make sure things work in their machines.
Any pointers to what may be problems or what I should do will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Hello,
Is it possible to install two versions of MS Access on the same O.S. I already have Access97 installed. Now I want to install access 2003 without it up removing my previous access 97. If it removes/upgardes access 97 to access 2003 I will not be able to open my access 97 database.
Is this possible? and if so how?
Thanks--any help will be much appreciated.
Hi,
My office has updated to Microsoft Access 2007, but one of the third party softwares used requires a previous version of Access. A result of switching between the 3rd party software and Access 2007, is that 2007 installs every time.
Is there any work around to over come this problem?
Thanks,
Chander

I've been hired to clean up and convert a flat filemaker database into access 2003 and I've spent the last two weeks learning the ins and outs of access and doing preparations. Well, today some high up database guy in another department told me not to use access because in the future when a new version of access comes out we will have to recreate the database from scratch because there are lots of problems converting between versions. I'm aware there might be some hiccups but I don't really agree with him. Plus once the database is up and functioning I don't see why we'd even have to upgrade it to a new version. It's just a small health centre patient database with info about patients and their treatments. Does anyone have any opinions about this. Thanks.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHi, this problem came out of nowhere but looks like it's here to stay.
Our Access app generates various Access Reports.
Recently we installed a new version of our access app and since that version onwards, all pc's with Office XP/2003 print reports in black & white. Printing to PDF works fine though.
We can't find the reason for this. Which mean we had to go to all our clients to downgrade them from office XP/2003 to 2000!
We use mainly Xerox and HP printers.
Thanks!
Is there a way to make access be able to store software versions and product keys automatically? Programs I am most interested in is like Microsoft Office suites and Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop and whatnot like that. I am not sure if this is even possible but I am trying to get my database fully functional with all the data and efficiency I can for at least 5 people so that I can try to sell access as a better tool than the service they are using now.

I have an ACCESS 2003 application with front end in the local machine and backend on the shared network drive. I mapped this drive to E: in my computer and all my linked tables show the E:folernameDatabasename.mdb as the source.
When I install this application in an other computer where they have mapped the same drive to F: , I am getting error that says "E:foldernameDatabasename.mdb" not found. How can use absolute network drive(like \cscrd eamfoldernamedatabasename.mdb) name to link the tables?
Thanks in advance.
I want to access my database from different locations. More than 1 user may be using it at the same time.
Can I put the back-end of a split database in a Google Drive folder or a Dropbox folder and have multiple copies of the front-end for each user in their own location.
I know that Dropbox creates copies if two people update the backend at the same time. What about Google Drive? How does Google Drive handle it.
What are the potential problems of using these two services to share a database?
I've inherited a few Access DB monstrosities. One of which had ODBC credentials hard coded in the MDE which I had to recently update due to some server updates. I found an unsplit version of the Access DB on a development drive (j:db...) and updated the credentials hard coded in VB and updated the linked tables from the J drive path (dev) to the K drive path (prod). I then split the DB and the MDE worked fine for me. I quickly found out that it only works fine because I had J mapped still. End users do not have the J drive mapped (development) only the K (production). Without the J drive mapped to the actual dev path the Access DB simply doesn't load. No errors.
I then tried to find any references to J in VB and fix those. At this point I can't seem to find anything else that could be referencing the J drive but still the DB will not open without J mapped.
Here are some background . My company got a access file in a network drive. The data entry simply open the file in the network drive. But once the data has increased (~400mb) sudddendly, all process slow down. Like search , using report etc.Is there any method to imporive the situation? Some guys suggest me to copy the data file to the desktop and sync them. Can it it work?IF works, how to do that?
thanks gratefully for any ans
my post at www.thescripts.com was deleted. It seems they don't really want a true deployment solution help to all ms access developer.
Ms access is a true king RAD DB frontend dev't. tool but the deployment of the finish apps are very unstable.
Sagekey is almost there, but I want to make a single EXE on my Access Apps that run even on the usb flash disk.
I have already found the solution, perfectly done! using one of the tools available in the web. but I will not post it again, I'm afraid this post will be deleted again... I hope this forum truly helps.
Should be a quick and easy question here... I'm getting close to splitting a DB. Back end mbd, front end mde. Searched the forum and a few other places. One subject didnt seem too clear... I developed the db in access 2002, a few of our computers are running 2003. Will I run into any problems with this setup??
Thanks
Hello, I wrote an access program using version 2000 and the activex calendar 11.0 which came with the software. When i tried to run the same program on access 2003 none of my dates worked and I got error messages all over the place. Help!

hi all,
I'm just beginning to know the world of Access so maybe the solution for my problem is pretty simple.
I have a huge database with Itemcodes, Costprice of materials and EffectiveDate (date on which new prices are valid). These dates represent past dates as well as future dates. The one that interests me the most is the most recent date in the past.
What I would need is a query that filters out the most recent date per itemcode because right now there are several prices with several validity dates. Eventually it should result in a database that shows an item with one validitydate and one price.
Right now the same itemcodes are repeated because different validitydates are related to it.
I really hope somebody can help me out on this.
Thanks in advance.
I have a database in Access 2007 - 2010 that I push out to a couple of different co-wokers.One of my co-workers is using MS Office 2013 and the buttons I have on the forms and reports look inflated. Is there anyway to prevent this in Design mode so what I see in my version is the same as the new version of Access?
