UPDATE Query Copy Field To Another Table

Dec 7, 2006

Hi all,

I have two tables and one of them (table1) has two fields called
pct_id and pct_name.
table2 has the field pct_id.

I also created a new field in table2 called pct_name.
What i'd like to do is set table2.pct_name=table1.pct_name wherever
table1.pct_id=table2.pct_id automatically.

Is there a query that can check to see if its the same and update table2?

Heres what i tried but it didnt work

UPDATE table1
SET table1.pct_name=table2.pct_name
WHERE ((table1.pct_id)=(table2.pct_id));

Thanks in advance

Form Event (Before And After Update) Copy Form/Field Value To Another Table/Field

Aug 17, 2006

Group,

I thank you in advance for considering this inquiry.

From within a Form.field (based on a master table query), I desire to trigger two events; one before update and one after update.

This function will serve to document specific form.field value changes to a "log" table for review prior to being committed back to the master table.

What I'm looking for are functions, which I can use in a Macro or VBA code to facilitate a field read and copy before change and a read and copy after change triggering.

I'm sure this is absurdly simple.

Using UPDATE And WHERE To Copy Data From A Table To Another

Jul 3, 2007

I have a problem....
How can I copy data from one column in a table to another colunm, with WHERE and UPDATE?
And how can I find the data, which is the closest, for example using LIKE '%'
UPDATE tag_info,tag_info_kilde SET tag_info.TAG_DESCRIPTION = [tag_info_kilde].[TAG_DESCRIPTION_KILDE]
WHERE [tag_info].[TAG_NAME]=[tag_info_kilde].[TAG_NAME_KILDE];

Queries :: Update Query To Copy Previous Row?

Aug 5, 2014

What's the best way in an update query, using access 2003, to update data in a record based on the previous record having an identical value in a certain field?

For example my data looks something like this, in this example I want row 2 to fill in the blanks with the data from row 1 as they both have the same ID number at the end highlighted in red:

1 2 Anywhere Street 1 2 1 1 5423
2 4 Anywhere Street . . . . 5423
3 6 Anywhere Street 1 2 1 1 6401
4 8 Anywhere Street 1 2 1 1 6402

I've found various threads here on how to copy the whole record but I only want to copy the data from certain fields. More oftem than not the fields I'll be copying to will be NULL.

how to reference a field from the previous record within an update query I could probably work it out from there?

How To Set Field / Table And Criteria In Update Query

Jan 10, 2013

I have a form that run a query to select all the students taught by a given faculty member. Once the records are loaded, the faculty enters attendance data, selects a date from a combo box and hits a save button.I change my relationship and now need to be able to store the key for the field in the combobox and not the text.

How do I set the field, table and criteria in the update query to do this. The UD query uses the FacultyStudents query as its record source. Currently the FacultyStudents querry does not have the Key or the date fields since the date is selected by the faculty once their records are loaded. As I see it there is now way to make a join, so I think I either need VBA or SQL, which I am not very good (really bad) at wriitng. Can the necessary Sql be written in the query design view?

Modules & VBA :: Update Table Field Based On A Query

Nov 16, 2013

I have a table 'table1' which has various field including an ID field and a yes/no field. I then have a form based on a query originally derived from data in the original table. The form provides a list with some ID's with a yes and some with a no.

I'm trying to write a button code to convert all the no's into yes' for those ID's picked out by the query.

I've searched lots of sites and get that I need to set recordsets for both table1 and the forms' query but all my efforts crash or give an error.

I am looking for the right way to say .." for each ID in form set the yes/no field corresponding to the same ID in table1 to yes"

I'd attach my version ....

Queries :: Field Is Empty - Query To Update Table But No Result

Feb 26, 2015

I have a created a query which I want to update a table. The field is called DTP. I have the Workingdays2 module in place as well as the Holidays Table. The dates (date only) are called Time in and Transaction date. I want the table to update records only if the entry in Completed is Yes. I have attached screenshot of what I have in query. I am no good whatsoever at VBA so I used the Query design view. It shows how many records will be updated (which is a valid number) and shows me which field will be updated. However when I run the query and then opend the Table the DTP field is empty.

Queries :: Update Table With Values From Field Using Results From Select Query

Sep 23, 2014

Let's say Table (T1) has fields F1 and F2. After a massive update to T1, there are some records with F1 = "" because a Dlookup using F2 as criteria to another Table (T2) resulted in a null. I created a select query to show unique T1F2 values where T1F1 = "". The user can use this query to find out which F2 values need to be added to T2.

How do I create an update query that will update T1F1 with values from T2 using the T1F2 results from the select query to again use the Dlookup to T2 (of course after T2 has been updated to contain the missing F2's)?

Copy Data From One Field To Another In Same Table

Apr 27, 2005

I have a field called Shipdate. I have created a new field that is called invoicedate. What I want to do is copy all of the shipdates and paste them in the invoicedate field for my old records. From here on out they would be distinct fields but for old records and reporting purposes I need those dates.

Can I do that in a query, do I need a module???

It's probably easier than I think it is.

Thanks.

Copy Autonumber To Another Field In Same Table

Jul 31, 2006

I need to make changes to a table already containing data. Currently the autonumber field is simply there as a primary key, but I now wish to use it for another number field (Accession No) which was previously completed manually.

As this doesn't seem possible or practical (as I need the flexibility to overwrite the number sometimes), I just want the autonumber to also appear in the Accesion No field when a new record is added (but be manually overwriteable).

I've had a play with default values and lookups, but with no success, and haven't found anything on the forum. Where am I going wrong, or is this just not possible?

Thanks for your help.
Alison.

Modules & VBA :: Copy Field1 To Field 2 In Table

Feb 20, 2015

I want to save the timestamp created in a table when a user opens the database. My vba saves the computer name and user name and sets the currentuser = yes. The table is mysql odbc, and has the requisite timestamp and id fields. I have a form that I can open that shows who is online at that moment. When a user closes the database, the currentuser field is set =no. All of that works well. Now, I have added a "starttime" field in which I would like to store the timestamp that was set upon opening, since when a user logs off, the timestamp gets changed to the log off time.

Code:

Dim myQry As String
Dim sUserName As String
Dim sUserComputer As String
Dim currentVersion As Date

[code]....

The UserTimestamp in red is the field value of the first record in the table, not the usertimestamp in the user's record. How do I store the log on timestamp in the "starttime" field?

Forms :: Copy Certain Fields To Another Field In Same Table

Sep 8, 2013

I am using MS Access 2010 and I am trying to figure out how to copy a field(s) to another like record. For example I have simple split-form that contains detail items purchased (product number, item purchased, cost, etc). I have a check box call "chkApproved" and date box called "Approved Date". The user have a choice to select the invoice number, once selected the invoice number (there maybe anywhere from one or 2 to 4 rows based from the same invoice number).

The manager will go to the first record and check the "chkApproved" and date is automatically updated as today's date (Approved Date). This is fine if there is only one row, but when you have the same invoice number with 2 to 4 rows the user has to go to each row and check the box. I want to somehow automatically populate the rest of the rows within the same invoice number I don't need to create a new record only updating the existing records.

Automatically Copy Data From One Field In A Table To Other Related Fields In Other Tables

Aug 7, 2014

I'm trying to create a system where if I enter data into one field it will automatically appear in the corresponding field in another table. For instance if I enter the values 10,12,15 into a field called QID in table A I would like this to appear automatically in a field called QID in table B. Both tables are related and I have enforced referential integrity and 'cascade' options but this still doesn't seem to allow one table to automatically update another. My ultimate aim would be to have a form that you filled in data for the field QID once that then propagated to both Table A and Table B.

Tables :: Update A Field In One Table Based On Status Of A Field In Another Table

Aug 2, 2013

I have started work on a database to track the many (several hundred per annum) projects my company undertakes. A 'main' table lists projects, their fees, their key dates, their project numbers, etc. I have created another table for tasks. Each task is assigned to a project (via the project number), and may be 'open' or 'closed'. I have separated the tasks table from the projects table as there may be several different tasks for each project. It is also good to keep a record of the tasks.

I want to prepare a report from the projects table that lists projects IF they have any open tasks.

In my mind, this means 'If a task, with the corresponding project number, is open, put a 'Yes' in the 'Tasks open' field of the Projects table.'

Queries :: Find Data In One Table And Put In Field Of Another Table Then Update

Nov 7, 2013

I have an "order details" table that needs to populate a field called "Voucher" with data from another table called "codes". The "codes" table also has a true/false field called "allocated" because once allocated the code cannot be re-used.

I am trying to work out how to automatically allocate the next unallocated code in the "codes" table to each record in the "order details" table when that order details record has a DiscountID of "92".

Order Details Table Fields and conditions/criteria:
ID - primary key
DiscountID - only when the DiscountID = 92
Voucher - only populated when Discount ID = 92

Codes table Fields and conditions/criteria:
ID - primary key
code = text field with a code like "einstein01", "einstein02"
Allocated = False

Is there a way to put the next available code into the order details record then mark that code as allocated in the codes table. Then, move on to the next order details record that has a discountID = 92, input the next unallocated code and mark that code etc. etc.

Ideally, I would like to do this to happen via an event when the Order forms button "Close" is clicked.

General :: Update A Field In One Table From Another Table Via Forms

Apr 26, 2013

I'm trying to update one table's field, via a Form, with certain data from another existing table in my DB when I enter key data in this first form. Example:

Table Equipment ... Some columns... Year, Make, Model, LIcPlate, etc.

Table Fuel ... Some columns... Year, Make, Model, LicPlate, Fuel Dispensed, Milage, etc.

Form for Fuel has Year, Make, Model, LicPlate, Fuel Dispensed, Milage, etc. BTW, it will take Year, Make and Model to fully qualify the search/lookup as there may be more than one occurrence of a Year and Make in the Equipment table, so Model is necessary to fully qualify. . Yes, something like VIN would be a simpler lookup but remembering a VIN is much harder than entering a Year, Make and Model.

In a Form over Table Fuel, I want to have the LicPlate field (possibly other fields as well) automatically updated from Equipment Table when I enter the Year, Make and Model in that form.

I'm assuming the solution involves creating VB code, of some such, via an Event (AfterUpdate) or some such built through the LicPlate field in the Fuel form. A mass Update via SQL is not appropriate.
