Um... Acess Hangs Temporarily When My Mouse Hovers Over 'Print' Icon

Mar 20, 2006

Hi there

Strange problem, i'm using XP Pro and Access from Office 2003 (both real full versions from work) - and in general use, when the mouse hovers over the 'print' icon (at the top left, undernear file, edit, view, insert, near 'save', 'new', etc), then access will hang for about 20 seconds then snap back into action.

Now, i don't even want to print anything! But every now and again i accidentally hover over it and it's bugging the hell out of me. Everything is updated (but i will check again now).

Anyone know how to make this stop? I tried a quick search but didn't get far.

Cheers!

Edd

Mouse Wheel / Print Screen Frustration

Jan 22, 2005

Does anyone Know how to stop the mouse wheel from scrolling through the records,
my Dbase is for non-computer expert users and the ability to move records to the EOF and see a blank freaks them out,
does anyone know how to stop it from working, ???

Same for the Print screen, in normal MS applications the Print screen only records the screen to the Memory buffer, but on Access it actually prints the screen,

DO NOT ask me how the users are hitting the print screen button while inputting, its also a mistry to me :-)

Removing Validation Temporarily

Feb 13, 2006

Hey,

Im doing a booking system and there is validation on booking date field:

>Date()+7 And <Date()+62

This (im sure u know) means that it wont let me book less than one week in advance and more than 2 months in advance. At the start of the year the people who do the booking system put in regular bookings for the whole year (so more than 2 months in advance). it has to be highly automated so I need a macro (or something, i dunno!) to remove the validation so that the regular bookings can be added and then the validation should be put back on at the end. So maybe 2 macros? Please HELP!

Forms :: Temporarily Lock Form Field In A New Record

Jun 13, 2013

I would like to be able to lock a form's field temporarily until certain information has been added to other fields. Once the required fields are complete, I want to be able to allow the field to be updated.

Here is a simplified version of the table fields (only including relevant fields):

tblContacts
LastName (Text, Required field, Duplicates OK)
FirstName (Text, Required field, Duplicates OK)
CurrentEmployee (Yes/No field)

Basically, I don't want the user to be able to update the CurrentEmployee field in a new record until the LastName and FirstName fields have been completed.

The reason I want to prevent this is that when CurrentEmployee field is updated, the record is then assigned a ContactID number (PK autoID field) which means that my subform is assigned an ID# and the result is messy if the user decides to abort the creation of the record.

Ms Access Hangs Up During Rs.update??

Mar 4, 2007

hello..

I have this problem that when I update the value in one of my tables, MS Access hangs up. I don't know why. I dont know if it's because of the updating or because of something else.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks in advance! ;)

here the code that's executed when the approve button is clicked..

Private Sub Command43_Click()

Answer = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to approve this timesheet? Note that only projects approved by respective project managers will be approved.", vbYesNo)
'if cancelled
If Answer = vbNo Then
Else
Dim rs As Object
Dim x As Integer 'will be used as a flag for do while loop

x = 1 'initialize flag
Set rs = Me.Recordset.Clone

rs.FindFirst "[weekending] = #" & Format(Me![weekending], "mm/dd/yyyy") & "#"

'finding the first record wich matches the weekending doesn't give the right record
'right away. it may give a record with the right weekending but different eno. that is
'not supposed to happen. so once a weekending match is found, check if the eno also
'matches. this do..while loop will do the trick =)
Do While x < 18
If rs!eno = Forms!TimesheetDetailsFrm!eno And rs!statusPM = "approved" Then
rs.Edit
rs!status = "approved"
rs.Update
x = x + 1
End If
rs.FindNext "[weekending] = #" & Format(Me![weekending], "mm/dd/yyyy") & "#"
Loop

'close this form and refresh the 'timesheets for approval' form
Answer = MsgBox("You have successfully approved the timesheet. Close this window to continue viewing other submitted timesheets.")
Forms!SupervisorFrm.Requery
End If

End Sub

Thanks again..

ps. How do I mark a post as 'resolved'? Coz I have a previous post which has already been solved.. Thanks to all of you guys. ;)

Hyperlinked PDF Package Hangs Computer

Jan 14, 2008

I have hyperlinks from within Access forms that link to Adobe PDF documents; these are the new PDF Package documents created with Acrobat 8 - and give the message "Multiple files are bound together in this PDF Package."

The problem I am having is that when ever I click on the hyperlink the computer hangs (from the task manager, I believe that it is Acrobat Reader that is hanging). This problem only occurs with multi-file PDF packages and does not occur with regular PDF's. It also only occur with MS Access, as linking to theses files from MS Word encounters no problems.

Is anyone aware of a fix for this?

Modules & VBA :: OutputTo Hangs On Error 52

Nov 10, 2014

Some of my users do not have access to all of our servers. In trying to automate I've hit one user whose system hangs up when Access tries to write to a server folder she does not have write (or even read) permissions for (Error 52, Bad file name or number). See the "Me.CitationType > 500" line below.

Code:
Private Sub comboStatus_AfterUpdate()
Dim hDate As String
Dim sFile As String

[Code]....

It gets as far as "If Len(Dir(hDate, vbDirectory)) = 0" and then hangs with Error 52. Testing for Dir() sooner doesn't work either.

how to either test for read-write permissions or trap Error 52. "On Error GoTo ErrorHandler" never fires to even test for 52, unless I'm missing something.

Query Is Too Complex In Ms Acess 2.0

Jun 13, 2006

Hi ,

I have two queries . one to list the data for the current month and the for the pervious month which I used to get a union query. From the union query I created another query which I had put in the report_open as a query def.

It works perfectly well on small databases upto 50 mb but when tested with 70mb databases ,report tabkes 30 minutes to execute and also throws the error"query is too complex"

please advise how I can avoid this error and also speed up the report.
Thanks in advance.

the code under report_open looks like this

Dim MyWorkspace As WorkSpace, MyDB As Database, MyQuery As QueryDef
Dim MySet As Recordset
Dim psSql As String
Dim inputno As Integer

Set MyWorkspace = DBEngine.Workspaces(0)
Set MyDB = MyWorkspace.Databases(0)
inputno = store

psSql = "SELECT DISTINCTROW QryRepCMISUnionLargeMovements.Customer_Name,"
psSql = psSql & " QryRepCMISUnionLargeMovements.CUST_ID, QryRepCMISUnionLargeMovements.CRG_CODE,"
psSql = psSql & " QryRepCMISUnionLargeMovements.CurrLimits1, QryRepCMISUnionLargeMovements.PrevLimits1,"

Modules & VBA :: Temporarily Map A Drive / Copy A File Then Remove Mapped Drive

Aug 29, 2014

My workaround was to temporarily map the URL to a vacant drive letter on the local machine, then copy the file over, then drop the mapped drive again. A bit clunky but doesn't incorporate much of a delay and this download only has to happen once per day.

The good news is, the file download / copy now works every time. The bad news is that removing the temporarily mapped drive after the copy has taken place, doesn't and I can't figure out why.

Here are the functions I use to map / unmap the drive :

Code:

Option Compare Database
Option Explicit

Private Const RESOURCETYPE_ANY = &H0&
Private Const CONNECT_UPDATE_PROFILE = &H1&
Private Const RESOURCE_CONNECTED As Long = &H1&

[Code] .....

I have separate functions to check existing drive mappings on the local machine and thus determine an appropriate vacant letter to use for the temporary mapping - they work fine.

Unfortunately the UnMapDrive function returns False (even though I switch the active drive to C: and force the connection to be cancelled with the fForce flag) So the mapping always remains on the users profile.

I don't want to permanently map drives on the users' profiles, just briefly for the purposes of this daily file download.

Parameter In Queries - Acess 2002

Feb 7, 2006

I have upto 10 queries which in turn produces 10 reports. Each query has a 'current_year' parameter input by user. Storing 'current_year' value in table and accessing it in queries was an option which was discarded because of the possibility of inner queries using 'current_year' value from a table could slow down the query.

Is there any way to set parameter values for 10 queries in a single stretch. In all the queries parameter name is the same.

Here is a sample query. CURRENT_YEAR is the parameter

Query Behavior Acess 2003

Aug 31, 2007

I've just started using 2003 and had a query give me incomplete results. One table contains 6 numbers stored as text joined to the corresponding code in the data set table. Both fields are formatted as text. When using the table as criteria I do not get all of the expected records, I had to type in("1000", "2000",...) in order to retrieve all of my data.

Any ideas on what could be happening?

I use the text setting to avoid problems importing the data set which begins life as a csv file.
