Unable To Delete Or Change Name Of Database
Jan 23, 2008
I have tried to rename or delete in MS Explorer, but this just creates confusion. The databases still show up in bits and pieses on various screens. I've purchased 2 additional how to do it books on MS Access 2007 and find nothing on deleting or renaming an entire database and all objects or references to it. Does anyone know the magic bullet?

I have Access 2003 and I am trying secure my database.
I read thru the posts in this forum and I created a new mdw file and new id..I gave this new id all the powers of Admin, so that I can take away all the powers from Admin user and Admins Group...but I am unable to change owner for the database object..current owner is Admin.
What can owner do that admin cannot do?
Please help..

Hi can anyone help. My database is running on a Citrix server. No real problems except that I am continualy being left with the database apparantly locked by another user. Am unable to delete the LDB file even when no other users are logged on. Is there a way of deleting LDB files in relation to stale Access sessions. I know that in normal circumstances these files close automatically. Problems seems to be occurring when the database is not exited properly or the connection to the server drops for some reason. I've tried loads but can't find a workaround.

I am currently unable to delete any data from my table. When I highlight a row and right-click, the option to delete the record is grayed-out. I have deleted and recreated the table and relationships, saved the database as a new file, and compacted and repaired, but I am still unable to delete anything.

I'm trying to produce a report which uses a static deisgn and does not change. For example,I require in the detail of the report a table say 3 * 8 ....and in the report I need the data to fill each one of these cells. However I may not have 8 records , therefore I need the remaing columns/cells empty - the design of 3 * 8 must not change... at the moment I have a dynamic design so if i have 3 records I have 3 *3 table leaving a massive gap on the report.

Hello, I HAVE searched the forums for many days but I could not find a solution. Maybe I'm not sure what to look for...
The MAINFORM_1(single form view) is based on a Query and has a cbo named 'cbo_client'. This cbo is for a field named [client_id]. The AfterUpdate [event] of 'cbo_client' does a requery on a field in the the following SubForm:
In the SUBFORM_1(datasheet) (based on another Query) is another cbo named 'cbo_subclient', with a select statement of 'Select (all the needed fields) FROM tbl_subclient WHERE ((([tbl_subclient].[subclient_id])=[Forms]![mainform_1]![cbo_client])).
Everything (incl. the REQUERY) works fine, and all the tables gets updated with the records the way it should. No problems.
But this is where i get stuck...: Once the user has entered data in the SUBFORM_1 datasheet, and then >changes the 'cbo_client'< on the MAINFORM_1, it requery the subform like it should, BUT the previously entered data in the subform is already written to the table!
So, I need a way to prevent the data in the subform from beiing stored if the user changes the cbo on the mainform (for a second time). OR prevent the cbo on the mainform from beiing changed after the subform is completed.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to do...
Please, just a point in the right direction and i'll battle it out from there.
Thank you.

I have two databases. One is 'live', one is for development. Once i get something working in the latter, I import it into the former. This has been working fine for just over two months.
Today, however, i'm trying to import a form and get one of the following messages:
"The search key was not found in any Record"
"No current record"
I'm unable to import the form.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi,
I have created a database with approx ten tables with many queries (make table and append and delete queries). I need to compact this database as I would normally do (usually deal with databases of 500MB and more with no issue) however after over an hour I still get the message 'not responding'. I have tried creating a new one from scrath and get the same issue. Can anyone help please?

Hello All,
I have found myself with a big problem, One of my databases has managed to become rather large in size, 1,084,576kb
Unfortunatley i am unable to compact the database, as i get the following error on compact "record(s) can't be read; no read permission on L:database name"
The size of the database now seems to be the reason why reports and queries are failing,
I have tried "database utilities" Repair Database - and this has no affect.
I have also tried temporally removing some of the tables and queries into another database, but the Db size remains the same.
Does anyone have any ideas as i'm stumped? p.s. the database in running on ACCESS 97
Thanks and best regards
Aaron

Hi,
I have two possibly related things that have recently begun happening in nearly all of my databases. (Access 2002, Windows XP)
1. For years I have been using shortcut command lines like the following to open my databases:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp d:databasesPCAMain97sys.mdw m:pcamainpublicaccess2002frontendsvikchamaster setupwheel.mdb /excl
All of my databases use the same mdw file. Up until recently this command line has always prompted me for my login and password. Now, it doesn't. Not only that, but once I'm in the database, if I go to tools-security-workgroup adminstrator, the indication is that I am NOT joined to the PCAMain97sys.mdw workgroup that I requested.INstead I remain joined to whichever workgroup I was in before; it's like hte /wkrgrp command line option now has no effect.
2. From file-database properties, I try to change the title of the database. But I get error "..unable to save the database properties". Web search shows this is probably db corruption, but... on every one of my databases???
OK, upon reading what I just wrote, it seems likely that my mdw file is corrupted....? Any other ideas?

I have two databases that have been split, and both back ends are in a shared folder on the server that only a few people have authorization to access. One of the front ends is accessed off another shared folder, and the other is saved to each person's desktop. They have been up and running for months, and I've had no problems with users not being able to access data from the back end.
The other day, I requested access to this protected folder for four people, which was granted. But, since the time it was granted, neither database will open unless the user has authorization to access the protected folder. They get an error that says the database is already opened exclusively or they don't have authorization to view its data.
I've created another test db and split it into the same folder, but my users are getting the same error.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike

I've posted this in the 'General' forum, but without success, so I'm trying here.
I have two databases. One is 'live', one is for development. Once I get something working in the latter, I manually import it into the former (File - Get External data - Import). This has been working fine for just over two months.
Today, however, i'm trying to import a form and get one of the following messages:
"The search key was not found in any Record"
"No current record"
I'm unable to import the form. I also get the same error messages if i try to copy and paste the form within its own database.
The form in question has a lot of lengthy code behind various combo boxes, text boxes, etc. When I attempt to look at this code (via right-clicking on a field and going to Properties and the Event tab), none of it is present any more.
What's going on? This form took weeks to get working and now it can't be copied, renamed or imported, plus it appears to have been 'wiped' of everything but the visual features.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Can one form become 'corrupt'? If so, please say that there's some way to remedy it?

I have a .mdb that opens up to a form (a splash screen I would assume). However, I can not access the form design view or even get the database window. I thought limiting access to design view was done with .mde, even then you have access to the database window. Any explanation on this or help??
Thanks

When trying to create an MDE using Access 2002 I get the message
"Microsoft Access was unable to create an MDE database"
The database is split and in Access 2002 format.
Could this be anything to do with References? I say this because I recently downloaded a dll for Redemption to make use of the SafeOutlook Library
Thanks

I want to create a main menu page for my database. I have tried the Navigation form and obviously I am doing something wrong....because the tabs won't open the forms. We have Access 2010 at work and I would like to create something similar to this:
Cardinal Rap - Main Menu
[button] Input Monthly data
This button would take me to another screen that would list the tables for appropriation, expenditures and revenue, each with their own respective button
[button] Reports
This button would take me to another screen that would would list the reports available each with their own respective button
[button] Monthly reconciliations
This button would take me to another screen that would list the tables necessary for my monthly reconciliations each with their own respective button that open that table.
The tabs in the Navigation form don't seem to do anything.

I'm having a problem with a database that i had split. While creating teh database, i had it stored on my personal drive at work, but wanted to move it to the shared drive so the data could be stored there. this is to deal with cross site network connectivity issues that we encountered with another database here at work.
When splitting the database, i split it on my personal drive and then dragged the back end to the common drive. I realized my error, but when attempting to correct it, i somehow have two of the same file, and no back end?
I receive the error on the attached document when attempting to access any of the tables or information in either of the files, the "back end" that i placed on teh drive, and the "front end" that i have on my personal drive.
I also tried to relink the tables through the linked table manager, but receive the same error when attempting that.
Is there a way to recover from this? I had backed up my file by making a copy prior to splitting, but somewhere in this process, this became linked to these and is having the same issue. Is there a way to recover the old "unsplit" version? I cannot copy over all of teh tables, etc. because i get the same error as earlier.
I can attach a copy of my database for reference...

I have upsized from Access 2003 to SQL Server 2008 R2 using upsizing wizard. Everything works fine. But I don't see relationship in SQL SErver 2008 R2 if I go to database. But I set relationship in Access 2003 before upsizing it.
Amso I don't see relationship (diagram) in Access 2003 , which I was able to see before.
So do I need to again recreate the relationship amongst the table in Access 2003 Or SQL SErver 2008 R2 ? I thought, if you link tables, everything should be taken care but i don't see relationship structure any more.

I have split my database in Front End och Back End, and both are password protected. The Front End has been converted to ACCDE.
When I try to import to Excel from Front End and/or Back End using database connections I receive a message telling me that I am using an invalid password (even though I use the same password when I encrypt/decrypt FE and BE). I've tried using Access import, ODBC and Microsoft Query. (In some cases I 'm also prompted to set a username, which I do not know which it should be since I haven't set one in my database (except the automatic "admin"))
How do I go about to make this work?

I am trying to create a database by compiling records from multiple excel sheets. however, since most of the clients still uses the excel sheets to enter records, I am thinking if it's possible to create a linked table in access from these excel sheets that are hosted on an online server.
also is it possible to merge multiple linked tables together? if they have the same field range, so they will append when the linked tables gets updated.
