Not sure if this is the correct forum but its worth a shot.
When I try to open any database, MS Access will hang if there is already another instance msaccess.exe running. I even tried opening two newly created blank dbs with the same result. Has anyone ever come accross this behavior?
I have tried repairinging/reinstalling/checking and unchecking "Windows in Taskbar option"
Is there a way to allow Access to open a second (or thrid...) copy of a form? We need this so we can visually compare the contents for record one with the contents of record two.
Hi, I would like to recreate a record locking problem (error # 3218) our users are experiencing on an application we have developed. I currently do not have access to a network, so I would like to run multiple instances of Access on one machine. How do I do that?
I have a very elaborate Access 2000 application that uses three different SQL databases as the back end. Mostly the data is modified or selected via ADO connections.
The problem I am having is that recently users on Terminal Server are not able to open the application because for some reason the application is not allowing more than one copy of it to be opened at once. I checked everywhere and couldn't find anything that would not allow multiple instances but couldn't find anything.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated
I have upsized from Access 2003 to SQL Server 2008 R2 using upsizing wizard. Everything works fine. But I don't see relationship in SQL SErver 2008 R2 if I go to database. But I set relationship in Access 2003 before upsizing it.
Amso I don't see relationship (diagram) in Access 2003 , which I was able to see before.
So do I need to again recreate the relationship amongst the table in Access 2003 Or SQL SErver 2008 R2 ? I thought, if you link tables, everything should be taken care but i don't see relationship structure any more.
Dim FrmGraphObj As Object Set FrmGraphObj = Forms![frmE Weekly Efficiency]![gph_WeeklyEfficiency].Object.Application.Chart FrmGraphObj.Axes(xlValue).TickLabels.NumberFormat = "0%"
I continually receive a runtime error 1004 " unable to get tick labels property of the axis class"
if I remove this code, then I error on the following code:
Dim FrmGraphObj As Object Set FrmGraphObj = Forms![frmE Weekly Efficiency]![gph_WeeklyEfficiency].Object.Application.Chart If FrmGraphObj.SeriesCollection(2).HasDataLabels Then
also a runtime 1004: "unable to get the seriescollection property of the chart class" on the last line above
searched this forum and found:
If your chart is in a form (or report), you have to:
1) refer to the form (or report) name (Form_Charts)
2) refer to the name of the object frame holding your chart (.Graph1)
3) refer to the object within the frame (.Object)
4) refer to the application that created the object (.Application)
5) refer to the actual chart itself (.Chart)
6) refer to the axes collection and select the axis you want to reference - in this case the category, or X-axis (.Axes(xlCategory))
I made the assumption, that I would just replace xlCategory with xlValue for the Y-axis. So I'm back to:
Set FrmGraphObj = Forms![frmE Weekly Efficiency]![gph_WeeklyEfficiency].Object.Application.Graph With FrmGraphObj.Axes(xlValue) .TickLabels.NumberFormat = "0%" End With
Same error....
Looked in the Microsoft Graph Visual Basic Reference and it indicated:
"Tick-mark label text for the value axis is calculated based on the MajorUnit, MinimumScale, and MaximumScale properties of the value axis. To change the tick-mark label text for the value axis, you must change the values of these properties."
I reset my code to call these 2 functions prior to changing the number format.....
Public Sub txtMaxPercent_AfterUpdate() Dim FrmGraphObj As Object Set FrmGraphObj = Forms![frmE Weekly Efficiency]![gph_WeeklyEfficiency].Object.Application.Chart FrmGraphObj.Axes(xlValue).MaximumScale = txtMaxPercent End Sub Public Sub txtMinPercent_AfterUpdate() Dim FrmGraphObj As Object Set FrmGraphObj = Forms![frmE Weekly Efficiency]![gph_WeeklyEfficiency].Object.Application.Chart FrmGraphObj.Axes(xlValue).MinimumScale = txtMinPercent End Sub
now I am receiving error 1004 again, this time it states "Unable to set the minimumscale property of the axis class" erroring on this line....
I have created a database in Access 2010 and I am not able to open the same database in Access 2007. I have read somewhere that it is possible to open. I get the message, " Unrecognized database format". In Access options, the default file format is, "Access 2007".
I have installed Office Pro 2003 on a computer that we use as a server. The product was installed for about 2+ years and worked great. Recently we installed a trial version of office 2007 pro to check compatibility with our system.
That has resulted in the 2003 programs acting strangely. Ultimately, we uninstalled 2007 and 2003. Upon reinstalling 2003, everything works great - except for Access!
Running the MSAccess executible simply results in a brief hour glass and then nothing. No processes even register in the Task Manager.
I posted a question the other day http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=143027 about not being able to open an Access 2003 database in Access 2007. It was asking for a password when I hadn't set one.
I gave up on that, started from scratch at home on Access 2007 last night and then saved the database in Access 2003 format. Took it to work on my USB drive today - where we use Access 2003 SP3 - tried to open it and had a message pop up saying that the database was an unrecognised format, or words to that effect. This is bugging the heck outta me!
I'm really beginning to suspect there is a problem with Access at work. Our IT guy downloaded the hotfix suggested by Moniker, but I can't see if it made any difference.
I've taken a fresh copy of my A2007 database, saved it in A2003 format again and attached it as zipped file below. Can someone just please see if it opens properly on their PC? It's very rough and ready as I only spent about an hour on it last night, but I just need someone to tell me if they can see the tables, forms etc.
- If you CAN open it, then I've got some evidence that there's a problem at work and can maybe talk our IT dept into a reinstall (or a new PC)
- If you CAN'T open it, then I must be doing somethnig wrong here and I'd really appreciate further advice.
I have some code that opens and populates an Excel spreadsheets then does a save as to a specific directory and also outputs a PDF. This code is working with one small problem, I am leaving the first instance of Excel open and can't figure out where I should put the code for it to quit. Here is my code:
Code: ' This code creates a recordset based on the current reservation in order to gather data on ' a specific reservation, to output to a payment schedule excel spreadsheet which calculates ' Payment dates and amounts for specific reservations ' Declare variables for recordset Dim rst As DAO.Recordset Dim db As DAO.Database
[Code] ....
The instance that I need to close is shown in red.
I am fixing a database that was previously built. It is use to show listings of items for sale. There is a form that displays all of the information about a particular listing, each with its own id code.
If I want to email a particular item and info to an email address i can, but i can only send one at a time. I click a button which then asks what format to save the report, i choose html, then it opens a new email message from Outlook and sets the file as an attatchment.
The problem is, i want to be able to send more than one listing at a time in the same email. But once the first listing is created and attatched i have to send that one before i can send another listing.
I have a access 2003 database, and i am wondering if i can't setup a search function in a form that will open a file in windows explorer?
What i would like to do is have a test box that i enter in a number for example: 1234 then have a button named "Search" hit that button and it opens a corresponding file in windows explorer named 1234, or just opens that folder directly..
I have a table called providers with the following 3 fields:
Provider ID Cancellation Reason Visit ID Date
It is possible to have multiple instances of the same provider ID, cancellation reason and visit ID on the same date. I'm trying to count just 1 instance based on visit ID if there are multiple instances of the visit ID and reason on the same date. Select distinct doesn't seem to do the trick.
I have an Access 2007 mydb.accdb file. If I click on it, it starts up fine. If I click on it again, then focus goes to the already open db.
If I do the same but with the .accde of the same db, for each click a new instance opens. This is not good, in that a single user then can have multiple instances running without noticing it, and that might mess things up. What Windows setting to use, to convince Win XP that only one instance of mydb.accde should run, similar to the .accdb?
After creating multiple instances of a form how should they be closed so as to ensure that all of their assets are disposed of and there are no memory leaks? DoCmd.Close seems not to work because it expects a name string which would be the same for all instances of the form.
Since a form's name is a read only property it cannot be modified when the form is created so it doesn't uniquely identify a particular form instance. I've tried setting the form reference to Nothing which appears to work, but I'm not sure whether this is the correct technique and whether it disposes of everything cleanly.
We have a form that will have one combo box for Associates (like Employee in the OPs DB) which I've got set to show only active Associates for new entry per the tips in the above thread, but we'll also have a combo box for Developer which I need to function the same way. I don't know how to add that part to the On Current event?
Code: Private Sub Form_Current() Dim strComboRowSource As String If Me.NewRecord Then strComboRowSource = "SELECT T_Associates.AssociateID, T_Associates.Associate, T_Associates.Active " & _ "FROM T_Associates " & _ "WHERE (((T_Associates.Active)=True));"
Im trying to work on an db in Access 2007 that was migrated from Access 2003 (in fact its been migrated several times starting from Access 97). It executes and runs with no problems in both versions. The problem is when trying to open some queries (not all) - Access is unable to open the query in design mode and gives me this error :
" is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it is not too long.
However, as I cant open it - I cant check it. Im pretty sure none of the fields have invalid characters (they do have spaces) and Im not sure how long is too long....
I am designing an application in Access 2003 and it's pretty much working now.
I have a main form set to automatically open (through database startup).
sometimes, access disappears before even showing the form. The ldb file remains in the folder and access does not show up in Tasks (so it's really terminated).
I do have On_Load event code in the form, but nothing drastic and I went through and made sure that all subs have Error Handlers.
It doesn't give me any error messages, just disappears. This also happens when I try opening the main form from the open Access app, but not as often.
Usually, if I open by holding Shift, enter the form in Design view and close it, it then opens no problem.
Any ideas? I searched and googled, but to no avail.
I've come across an interesting problem a colleague has been trying to solve and even though I can 'see' what needs to be done and could probably program it on our mainframe, I'm really stuck on how to achieve the same results in MS Access
I'll do my best to explain the problem by showing an example of how the data exists in the DB and also how it 'should' be output on a report.
DATE OPERATOR COUNT
29/06/06 - Oper A - 32 29/06/06 - Oper B - 12 29/06/06 - Oper A - 10 29/06/06 - Oper C - 13 29/06/06 - Oper B - 10
The output needed however should read as follows
29/06/06 - Oper A - 42 29/06/06 - Oper B - 22 29/06/06 - Oper C - 13
Setting up a date selection shouldn't be a problem, its just adding the totals on each instance of each operator into one figure without ending up with a total of the number of times an operator appears on a date.
Any help and guidance about how best to approach this problem (macro/query/script) would be appreciated.
I have two databases that have been split, and both back ends are in a shared folder on the server that only a few people have authorization to access. One of the front ends is accessed off another shared folder, and the other is saved to each person's desktop. They have been up and running for months, and I've had no problems with users not being able to access data from the back end.
The other day, I requested access to this protected folder for four people, which was granted. But, since the time it was granted, neither database will open unless the user has authorization to access the protected folder. They get an error that says the database is already opened exclusively or they don't have authorization to view its data.
I've created another test db and split it into the same folder, but my users are getting the same error.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
I got this message after I install the "SMTPSVG.DLL" that i got from http://www.serverobjects.com/comp/Aspmail3.htm What should I do?
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x8d8 Thread 0x994 DBC 0x240303c Jet'.
Hi, I'm trying to connect to SQL Server Express from MS Access 2003.
I've created an ODBC data source and tested it within the ODBC Wizard. It successfully connects to the SQL Server database.
From within MS Access, I choose File > Get External Data > Import and I'm presented with a dialogue for choosing the data source. As soon as I choose ODBC from the Files of Type drop-list, the dialogue disappears. No error-message, nothing!
When trying to set a password I receive the following message.
You must have the database open for exclusive use to set or remove the database password.
To open the database exclusively, close the database, and then reopen it by clicking the File tab and using the Open command, In the Open dialog box, click the arrow next to the Open button and then select Open Exclusive.
When I follow the instructions, I don't get a dialog box. How do I set a password?
I am trying to open a report (with subreports) from a form. When the report opens, I want the form to hide, which most of the time does. Sometimes, though, it won't hide when the report opens. So, I even created an error handler, and moved that part of the code to SubExit section, but the problem still occasionally occurs. Here is my code:
Code: Dim strWhere As String Dim strDate As String Dim strDist As String On Error GoTo ErrHandler strDate = "=DateSerial(" & Year(Me.txtAsOfDate) & "," & Month(Me.txtAsOfDate) & "," & Day(Me.txtAsOfDate) & ")" strWhere = "YearEnd = " & Year(Me.txtAsOfDate) - 1
Greetings. When I create an Access database on my company's "secure" server (through a PIX box), I get this message in a dialog box when I try to open the database again: "Open File - Security Warning. Do you want to open this file?" It then gives the file Name, Publisher (unknown publisher), Type (Microsoft Office Access Application), and From (the file path and name). The bottom of the dialog box has this message: "While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not open this software." When I click on the "Open" command button, the file opens just fine.
There are a couple of things going on here:
1) When I open this same database or any other Access database on another of my company's servers that is not protected by a PIX box, I do not get this dialog box.
2) When two users try to access an MS Access database on the "secure" server, the first user will get in, but the second user will not. The second user will not get ANY warning messages -- nothing happens. This occurs if the second user tries to open the database by either double-clicking on a shortcut on the desktop or by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer. Note that the second user CAN access the same file if s/he starts up MS Access from scratch, and then chooses FILE>OPEN from the main menu.
My goal is to be able to let multiple users access the MS Access databases on the secure server by either double-clicking on the shortcut icon or by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer.
I thought perhaps that the "unknown publisher" issue might be part of the problem on the secure server. So I created a certificate using the utility "SELFCERT", went into the database, went into Visual Basic (Ctrl-G), went into TOOLS>DIGITAL SIGNATURE and assigned the digital signature, and re-saved the file. I then exited the file, went back in, and the dialog box still pops up saying the file's publisher is "unknown publisher"! If I go back into Visual Basic, the database is clearly marked as digitially signed by me. I don't know why the initial dialog box is still showing that the file is not digitally signed.
If anyone has any thoughts about these issues (multiple users not being able to access the same Access database, and why my file is saying it is still not digitally signed), I would appreciate your input. FYI, I am on a Windows XP workstation and our company users Windows Servers.
I am attempting to create a Macro that will export the COMPLAINT table to an Excel Spreadsheet. However Excel does not open and I am prompted to select the Program I want to use. What am I doing wrong?
