(original thank-you below...)
sorry, more stupid questions: I want the underlying table for the mainform to have the little column with the "+" you can press to see the related subform data. I created the two tables and then created a related form and subform, but the underlying table does not show the "+" column)??
HUGE thank-you for the response MStef - the example was helpful ! I will start again with 2 tables instead of one.....(I had thought i wanted to have all the info on one underlying table for viewing and printing purposes, but, I guess its not necessary). Thank-you!

I have a form called Adaptation Form in which Last Name and Course Number are entered.
The user looks up Last Name using a listbox on the form, and looks up Course Number using a second listbox on the form.
To use the form, the user looks up Last Name in the listbox, finds the ID number associated with the Last Name, and enters the ID number on the form. The form then autopopulates with the last name. The process for entering a Course Number is the same.
This populates the query underlying the form, but not the table. All that gets populated in the table is the ID Number for Last Name and the ID number for Course Number.
I have read the FAQ on cascading combo boxes and have managed to apply the theory to my DB's data input form (frmDataEntry) which is very cool and prevents a lot of errors however in doing so it no longer populates the underlying table (tblProductionDetails).
I am at a loss as to how to correct this as you can see from the example I need the customer and description field to be populated with the correct data rather than the fields I am using to make the cascading combo boxes work.
This seems pretty simple but I would like to select a combo box and after the user selects the combo box (Which Is a City) I want to use the underlining query of the form to run because I am using the <>False Criteria for a command of;
IIf([Forms]![frm_Deals]![CheckCity]=True,[City] Is Not Null Or [City] Is Null,[City]=[Forms]![frm_Deals]![SelectCity].[Value])
I may have other combo boxs with other information so that is why I want to run the underlying query. I have used the After Update command of;
I'm trying to resolve a problem with a form displayed as follows
MainForm -->SubForm1 embedded in main form --->SubForm2 embedded in SubForm1
When I edit subform2, then return to the mainform and edit a field on the mainform, I get an error.
'The data has been changed. Another user edited this record.... Re-edit the record.'
My understanding to resolve this is to do a requery. So I added:
Me.Parent.Requery Me.Parent.Parent.Requery
as part of the LostFocus event for subform2. However, I now get a Write Conflict error when returning to a field in the main form. I get a dialog box with the option to Copy to Clipboard or Drop Changes. I can select Drop Changes and it will let me edit the main form afterwards.
This is Access 2010 over SQL. how to get the main form to accept the changes made to the underlying subform?
I have a form that I call the AdminForm. It allows the user to store administrative information about the business; business name, address, telephone number, etc. I also have as a part of the table that stores this information an Attachment Field where an image of their logo is stored in a field called, [Logo]. No problem here. The issue is that I want to use the [Logo] field elsewhere like in reports.
I've added an Attachment type control to the report and I've used DLookUp to use the image stored in the admin table, but it doesn't display on the report. There isn't any relationship between the admin table and any report so I can't join them unless I do something "unnatural" by adding a fictitious field to every record to tie it back to the key field in the admin table, (there is never more than one record in the admin table; I ensure that). That doesn't seem like the right way to accomplish this.
I have an "Returns" master form that contains two subforms. The subforms contain items that we are returning back into our inventory. The underlying queries in each subform show only those records where the "Return Date" is null. The query(s) works fine, except that if there are 3 items that need to be returned there are 3 records that show in the master Returns form. I tried the Totals option in the query but the I need that Return Date on the subform. I only want one Returns master form to show the 3 records (not 3 records of the same master form).
As simple as it sounds. I have set up a table with a list of items and the costs. I then created a form with a list comprising 10 combo boxes. I want to be able to select one record from the underlying table per combobox on the form.
I am able to do this but the records in the underlying table keeps switching to the primary key field as I go along using the combobox.
I have a form with a Combo box, populated from table A. From this list, the user can select a item for data entry into table B. If the desired item is not found in the combo box, the user can launch another form that will allow the item to be added to table A. However, when the user returns to the data entry form for table B, the new item doesn't appear in the combo box.
I saw this problem addressed in another posting, but the solution (which required code behind an Exit button) will only work if the data entry form for table B is open  . So, if the user wants to only do data entry into table A, an error will be raised when they try to exit.
Other than creating a seperate data entry form strictly for table A, is there an easier way to update the combo box on the entry form for table B?
I am using a form with a combo box (FieldExpenses) that lists from a query row source (SELECT statement). Whether entering a new record or editing an existing record on the form, the selection in the combo box populates the field in the underlying table (TableTransactions) with the row ID (ex: 105), not the desired field (ie: Telephone).
I tried using a split form and the table in the form shows the field correctly. If I open the underlying table separately, the field displays the row ID. It's not working as I wish.
I have created a 'junction' table between 2 many to many tables:
Jobs table (details all jobs)Jobparts table ('junction' table details Job ID, Part ID, quantity and unit price)Stock table (details all stock). The fields Job ID, Part ID and Unit price are each lookup fields from the corresponding fields in the jobs and Stock tables with quantity being a manual entry. This works fine.
I discovered you can automatically populate the unit price field using autolookup based on the entry of the Part ID field on the form. However having amended some pre-existing jobpart details randomly on the form when I checked back to the table they had not updated. Similarly when creating new entries while the form 'unit price automatically updated on entry of the 'Part ID' these details did not feed through into the table.
I assume it has to do with how the table was originally set up the field properties will need to be changed.
I have an MDB file that points to a postgres database. What I'm trying to do is to redirect it to another datasource. The database is exactly the same, but I just need to point it to a different location. I tried doing this with linked table manager by refreshing the table and enabling the "always prompt for new location". I was able to point to my new location but what happened was my MDB became readonly, I am unable to edit anything after I changed the datasource.
So I created a master report (in design time) and added subreports using VBA and now I get the components in the correct sequence, but how do I get the data to show up correctly because at run time the same query runs for each subreport component and I end up with the above sequence.
Defining the subreport query at design time won't work because then the subreport for a particular component will show the same data.
I need each subreport to recognize which data to show at run time - but I am not sure how to accomplish this.
I'm trying to stay away from duplicating subreports in the case where the same components are selected.
I have a Lost/Found property database which we use to keep record of the lost/found property and it is working fine.
As per our organization's policy, we keep the item(s) for up to three months in which if it gets restored to the owner then fair enough otherwise after three months the item(s) can be claimed by the "Finder". But for this very purpose we issue the Finder with a "Claim Receipt" which he/she should bring in when claiming for the item(s) after three months period. Therefore, It's just the right time to upgrade the database to a more professional level.
The database has one table and two forms.
One form (LostFoundForm) is visible to the user in which they enter data, this form has two sections; Item(s) & Finder's details and the second section is about Restoring details.
However the second form (ClaimReceiptForm) is hidden to the users (for manual data entry) and has only one section which is exactly the same as the first form's first section, i.e., Item(s) & Finder's details. This second form takes the data automatically from the first form because the table behind them is same and fields are same (please see attachment). Up to here it's all working fine.
I would like to introduce a Checkbox or a CommandButton in the LostFoundForm which when we click should pull up a msgbox asking "Do you want to print the receipt for this item(s)?" with a Yes/No option. On clicking "No" it should, obviously, settle down but on clicking "Yes" it should print the "corresponding record" from the ClaimReceiptForm.
I have a form based on a table called tblListMaster and I want to allow users to open up another form showing all the members of one of the entries in that table so I have added a button called 'Show List Members'.
The list members form which I then want to bring up is also based on tblListMembers (it's a master-detail form). When I hit the button to open up the list members form I get an error message saying that the table is already opened exclusively.
I can understand why I get that message so I thought I would be cunning and create a dummy form which I open up, passing in my list id in the openargs (at that point I also close the original form) and then from that dummy form automatically open up the master detail form and close the dummy.
Code in List Master form
Private Sub cmdListMembers_Click() ' open up the list members form
Hi, I'm new in Access and facing a problem. Hope I’ll make myself clear.
I've a table "members" and I've created a form "member_form" based on this table (members).
1. I want to binde my form "member_form" with my table "member" so that the new data I store in form, automatically sotres in table. How can I do that:confused:
2. In form, I've fields "Member_ID" and "Member_Name". I want that when I type member_id in "Member_ID" field, the member name in "Member_Name" field come automatically. How can I do that???
I've run into a bit of a problem with the database I'm working on now. I have a form where the user inputs a date range (start date and an end date). Those dates are used to filter a set of records. Each record has a "submit date". All records with "submit dates" that fall between the user defined date range are displayed in a report. Right now I have the date range saved in a table (which really should only have one record). That's problematic though. I think I need to ditch the table and code the dates so that when the dates are input, there are date objects which are given the values of the input dates. Therefore, at any one time in the database there is only one start date and end date in memory. Each time the user wants a report from the database, he will be prompted to input the date range. Unfortunately I don't know how to do that.
I thank you in advance for considering this inquiry.
From within a Form.field (based on a master table query), I desire to trigger two events; one before update and one after update.
This function will serve to document specific form.field value changes to a "log" table for review prior to being committed back to the master table.
What I'm looking for are functions, which I can use in a Macro or VBA code to facilitate a field read and copy before change and a read and copy after change triggering.
I have two forms, both of which have a field called JobID (Form A is the primary Key and Form B is the linked field - Relationship: One to Many).
Form A = FrmJobs Form B = FrmPurchaseOrders
I have put a command button on Form A. When I click the button I need it to open Form B and then automatically fill the field JobID in Form B with the same value in Form A from which it was opened. I have tried the following:
Private Sub Command214_Click() Me.Refresh On Error GoTo Err_Command214_Click Dim stDocName As String Dim stLinkCriteria As String
[code]...
The above code works on my old database but not on my new database. I get the following message "Object does not support this property or method".
Basically I have a Customer Form, which I have a New party button on it,this button opens up the party form to a new party, what I would like it to do is open up a new party but make the new party for the customer I had selected in the previous form.I have tried the GoTo macro's but cannot seem to get it to work.
I am thinking on clicking the button it will need to get the Customer ID, and then open the party form, create new party, and paste in the Customer ID, which then updates the Name - Date - Address - Company Fields.
I have been tasked with creating a tool to analyse mobile phone bill data and present the analysis, and our recommendation, to a customers. Being new to Access (other than basic tuition) this has been a slow uphill task, which is finally nearing completion, however there is a problem which I have not yet been able to overcome.
The requirement is for the DB to open first on a splash screen (lets call it Form A) with fancy picture where our customer is selected from a combo box, the customer is then telephoned, a linked computer screen is established and our staff then click "Go" to proceed to a second form (Form B) showing an account overview and more details.
The problem I have is when "Go" is clicked, the second form loads via on click event, and even populates the correct customer in its combo box. Unfortunately that is as far as it gets - the combo does not look up the information. The customer needs to be selected again for the subforms and subreports to load with the customer overview. To clarify, form B just sits there blank until the customer is re-selcted from the combo box in form B.
