Hi,
I was wondering if there's a way to remove the security that a third party designer has added to a file. Is there an easy way to do this at all? Or is it really necessary to contact the original designer?
Thanks everyone!

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.
I am completely new to access and have just started a new job which involves the building of databases using access 97. The person who I replaced has very helpfully locked all the databases.
What I would like to know is there any way to unlock them again? I can view the page as a user but I need to get into the tables etc so I can modify the design slightly.
Is this possible or am I going to have to build a brand new database?
Bearing in mind I know next to nothing so if I cant get in then I will be here asking all sorts of questions:D
Thanks

I haven't used Access in a couple of years. I created a DB some years ago where I did not want the users to be able to view/change the forms, queries, etc.
I only wanted them to be able to view the "finished" product and do the data input.
I remember there was an "alt+key" combination I hit when I opened the db file in order to view/change queries, forms, etc.
Now, I've forgotten the key combination at open which allows me to see the details of the db.
I have some formulaes in that old db that I now need.
Could someone please advise on the key combination at open which will allow me to view/modify the details of the db?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Sincerely,
Joel

I do not know Microsoft Access that well when it comes to development.
A colleague and myself have inherited a project that requires us to research an application developed in Access.
We both have worked at SQL Server Administrators. All we have been provided is an .mdb.
The .mdb opens right up into the form view if you will.
When working with Access many years ago I know there are other views to Access when it comes to design, tables and relationships.
Does the .mdb need to be unlocked or opened in another way?

I am having trouble figuring out the method to automatically update some fields in SubForm from 2 other SubForms.I have attached 2 pics, the first GradeEntry1 shows what the tblTopic_Class_Grade form looks like after I manually enter everything into it. GradeEntry2 is what the form looks like when I fill out the Form starting at the top.
I'd like the tblTopics_Class_Grade form auto-populate the TrainingClassID (it currently does this), TopicClassID, StudentID, TrainingTopicID based off the entry from the above forms. My end goal is that I need to have a grade for each student on each training topic for each class. Like:
Class1-Student1-Topic1-GradeX
Class1-Student1-Topic2-GradeX
Class1-Student2-Topic1-GradeX
Class1-Student2-Topic1-GradeX

How can I get some mainform fields' data to be the first entry in a subform? From the mainform, I would like the Head of Household name and date of birth to be carried over to the first entry in the HouseholdMembers subform.
The two forms are tied to separate tables. For each household member I need to be able to enter full legal name, date of birth and some additional pieces of information such as income and source of income.
What I'd like to avoid is making the users enter the Head of Household's name and date of birth twice. Is there a way to carry that information over to the subform?
Thank you, Charlotte

Hey Everyone,
I am stuck trying to figure out this problem. I have a main form "frm_tirelog_600" which has 4 combo boxes "cboleg",
"cbocar", "cbopos", "cboserial" on it. The first 3 combo boxes are used as criteria on 1 of 3 subforms that I have.
The fourth combo box "cboserial" is used for the criteria in a query on another subform that I have called "frm_mount_600_subform",
which is independant from the main form, I hope I have explained that clearly enough. What I need to be able to do is
have the subform fill in 3 of the fields on it "leg", "car", "pos" with the value from the 3 combo boxes on my main form. I
can get it to show in the fields but not write to the table. I have searched the forum and have not been able to locate anything
that would work and really need any assistance with this. Im not real strong in the coding department which is where I
beleive this could be done.
I have attached a copy of my DB which I hope will better explain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
I created an access DB and "locked" the working version (i.e. selected the settings where users could not see the full menu bar). I had another version that I was working on to improve/upgrade the DB, but that one got corrupted and I only have the working version left. Now, I don't want to have to re-create the DB from scratch and would like to know if there is a way to get the full menu bar to show up, so that I can access the admin options on the DB?
Thank you!!!

I'm new to this forum and already I've got a question.
I'm made a form and a subform. I placed a field called 'status' in the form and in the subform I placed a field called status_subform.
If I've changes all the status_subform into a certain value I would like the status in the form to be updated.
I tried a lot of things with recordsets. I can find the number of recordsets, but I can't scroll through the recordsets, can anybody help me?

Friends,
I have a subform that I have attempted to lock all but one field (a checkbox.) Unfortunately, it appears that even though I have made sure (under field properties) that the field is unlocked, I cannot enter anything in directly in the subform. The field in the table is not locked. If I open the table, I can easily check and un-check the checkbox. I have opened the actual subform by itself and can check and uncheck the checkbox. However, when I go to form where the sub-form is placed and attempt to check/uncheck the checkbox, I am not able to do so. Any ideas???
I want to use the checkbox to run reports from a query that looks for those fields that are checked.
Thanks,
Mike

I have created a form with a subform and I want to subtract the total of the subform from the total of the form to get a balance; i.e. I have a total of expenses on the form and the subform is a record of payments against the expenses and I want to show a balance.
I have been all over this one and can not make the expression work. I have been working in Access for some time but this one has me stumped, I am probably over thinking it or just can't see the forest for the trees.
I have gone into the expression builder and created the formula but when I complete the process I get the #name? error statement in the field.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Thank you in advance. You can send responses to sharon.dunn@newmont.com.

I have an Invoice Form with a Payments Subform. Here are the details:
frmInvoice
InvoiceID
Customer
ShipmentID
QtyShipped
UnitPrice
frmPaymentsSubform
PaymentID
InvoiceID
CheckNum
DateReceived
Amount
An invoice can be paid in multiple payments. (One-to-Many Relationship).
I have a calculated field that takes QtyShipped * UnitPrice, which gives me my total due. That works correctly. However, I want to have another calculated field that sums all of the payments (the Amount field). Then I want another field that takes the difference between the total due and the sum of all the payments, and gives me a Remaining Due calculated field.
Right now, my TotalPaid and TotalRemaining fields are marked with '#Error'. Is that because TotalPaid is a running sum? Every day I can go in and add a payment to an invoice, so the number would be constantly changing until it was paid in full.
Any suggestions would be great!

At the moment i have an exisiting database that was not created by me. It consits of about 7 tables and a main table. Each table has a Primary Key that is a joining field. The Main form is built with subforms and when i enter a number in the primary key filed of the main table it enters that number in all the other primary keys in the other subforms.
i have now tried to create another subform to put into the main form but i cannot get this "link" between the primary fields to work.

I have a repair database which I'm working on. On the main WIP form there is a subform stating the faults which have been logged against that unit. The unit can be scrapped at any time by hitting the SCRAP button, but if the unit has had it's faults successfully repaired, then it can then be FINALISED which means it can be shipped to the customer.
I need to be able to check the records in the subform, to look for faults which have not been repaired. When they are repaired, the text "PASS" will be present in the TEST_RESULT field. I want to be able to check the TEST_RESULT field for each fault to ensure they are all a PASS before I allow the unit to be FINALISED. Any ideas how I can do this? Or am I taking the wrong approach?
Thanks,
Gareth

I have a control on my main form which attempts to total the amount from all subrecords on that record. For example, I have fields called ValueA and ValueB in the subform. If I have 5 subrecords in a record, then I want the control to sum all 10 fields (5 for ValueA +5 for ValueB). How can I do this?

I have database as follows,
1- student table: stID (PK), firstName, lastName
2-course table: courseID (PK), courseName, courseDescription
3- studentCourse: stID(FK),courseID (FK)
Now, I have created a main form based on student table and a subform based on studentCourse table. However, because I needed to populate the courseName and CourseDescription in the subform I changed its record source to a query (stID, courseID, courseName, courseDescription) so that when I move between the subform records the courseName and courseDescription still show in the subform.
To populate the courseName and courseDescription in the subform I changed the courseID to a combobox so that it brings the courseName and courseDescription from the course table and show it in the subform.
Everything is working fine so far BUT when I choose to input a courseID manually into the combobox, it does not populate the courseName and courseDescription as it does when I choose the courseID from the combobox.

I have done this by linking the relationship between a person and a company (company-personID) with the table "alternates". In a subform for the information about the company itself, it shows the people associated with the company, as well as their alternates (assuming they're a director). It works just fine when I view a director's alternate, as John Tong here has his alternate as the person with relationship number 7. However, the whole thing is made useless when I view it from an alternate director's point of view, like Peter Chan, where he's displayed as the director, and the alternate is null. After poking around for a bit, it turns out that the child field is ALWAYS director.
What I want is for it to show the alternate or director based on who's being shown in the subform, i.e. Peter Chan is filled as alternate with the director being shown as "1". I've tried setting up expressions and putting up multiple master and child fields, but they just mess up Access.how I could display the names instead of the company-personID in the "alternates" subform,.

I have a subform with two fields whose record source is a Query ("subquery")
Code in the query is as follows:
"SELECT Sum(capital) AS cq1
FROM capital_act WHERE (((capital_act.month)='jan' Or (capital_act.month)='feb' Or (capital_act.month)='mar') And ((capital_act.projectid)=forms!frmplan!projectid)) ;"
This query updates the field cq1 in my subform. I want to add 3 other fields for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. For instance the second quarter field cq2 field would have the capital_act.month as 'apr' or 'may' or 'jun' and so on...
cq1 value gets updated fine. I dont know how to add the fields cq2, cq3, and cq4 on the same subform whose record source would be the same query ("subquery").
I added a second SQL statement in the same query ("subquery") for cq2 but access does not let me add it.
Can somone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks.

Hi,
i'm working in access 97 and am having difficulties pulling a subtotal or referencing any fields on my subform on my main form. I've searched the forum and help and tried to apply the info provided, but i still can't seem to get it to work.
as far as i can tell this should work:
=[MySubForm].[Form]![TxtTotalStaffNumbers]
but i'm still getting the dreaded #Name? error.
anyone got any clues as to what i'm doing wrong?
what about the case where the subtotal i'm referencing is a calculation such as =Sum([Quantity]*[FacilityArea]). Should i still be able to reference it on my main form by pointing to the name of the field?
Thanks very much!

Hi,
I have created a form with 3 subforms. This form is split in to 3 parts on a 3-page tab control.
I want the user to enter data in the order below. All fields are required. My problem is that Access97 wants all fields of the main form to be completed in the order set by the table. ie. before I fill in a sub form. I have tried setting the form tab order property but it is being overridden.
First page:
a) Complete first 6 fields of main form
b) Complete subform 1
c) Complete subform 2
Second page:
d) Complete 5th field of main form
e) Complete subform 3
f) Complete 6th field of main form
Third page
g) Complete three fields of main form
Any help appreciated,
Seth
