Update Query/Converting
May 9, 2005
Dear all,
i have searched /researched and looked at hundreds of posts, and no luck.
Im litlle bit out of my depth, i have posted this before but just got confused.
i have two update querys, the first one identifys if a persons age (by date of birth) is under 16 a check box identifys if this person is "ticked" as junior.
the second update query identifys by (date of birth) if the person is over 16 a check box identifys if this person is "ticked" as senior.
The results are returned into my main query in two columns, these columns return -1 or 0 for junior or senior.
I need to produce a report that returns J or S (Junior or Senior) is there a way of converting these results to one column and converting the -1, 0 to J or S.
Please see attached file.
very lost, still searching for the answer. been on this foe three weeks now.
any help appricated.

Hello,
I'm having a small problem converting a select query I wrote into an update query. Below is my original select statement:
SELECT Mid([address3],1,InStrRev([address3]," ")-4) AS CITYx, Mid([address3],InStrRev([address3]," ")-2,2) AS STATEx, Mid([address3],InStrRev([address3]," ")+1,10) AS ZIPx, [address3] AS Expr1
FROM Exercise2
Where right([address3],1) <> "E" and address3 is not null;
The above statement basically parses the address field. Now what I need is an update statement that will use the above code. I'm needing to update the empty fields for city, state, and zip from the field address3 which contains all 3 combined.
Thanks,

Can anyone help? I have a query that queries against 11 linked views against an SQL Server backend.
The query is running dog slow, so I want to convert it to a pass-through query so that the processing is done server side rather than Access having to drag thousands of records across the network, but don't know where to start.
The problem is that I need to convert the Access SQL to a version of SQL that SQL Server understands.
Is there a tool I can use that does this automatically (keeping my fingers crossed here)? If not then does anyone know where I can find out how to do this?

I'm sure this must be an easy one, I haven't used access for years and I've forgot how to do everything.
I'm designing a query based on a linked table which belongs to someone else. Unfortunately they appear to have stored a cost value (eg. 12030.30) as text.
I need to group the table records together and sum the cost value but I can't because its a text data type. Can anyone help me convert the data type within the query so that I can sum the costs, I've tried to build the expression using the cdbl() function but got stuck when it asked me for a parameter.....
Would appreciate the help :)
Thanks
Lloyd
p.s using Access 97....

My table has many records for each month. I am creating a report that will display only the records in one month of a year. I have been able to create a form that gives the user the choice of the Month and Year for which to create the report. The code I am using to create the combo box is:
Code:
SELECT DISTINCT Month([QTDate]) AS MoNum, Format([QTDate],"mmmm yyyy") AS MoName
FROM MainTBL
ORDER BY Month([QTDate]);
What I need to do now is create the query for the report that displays all records for the chosen month and year. If I simply reference the combo box, all it shows is mmmm yyyy and the days are missing so the query doesn't work. What do I need to do to create the query so it displays all days within the month and date selected?

Hi Guys,
I have got a query that updates details from one table2 to table1, "Reference" is the primary key and this is what the query uses to determine which need updating.
It all works great but if table2 contains a record in "Reference" that is not in table1 i just want it to ignore it, currently it just seeems to add them.
Any suggestion guys & gals?
Many thanks

Ok, i have a question about update queries.I have two tables (I'll call table 1 and table two for simplicity) and an update query. I want to get some data from table one to table two (via an update query). But in table two there is a field that isn't in table one but i want to add a value to that field via the query. My question is, can i manually put into the query what data to add to a field instead of/aswell as using data from other tables.I hope you understood my questions.Cheers

Hello All,
I am working on a project that was started in access, but needs to be moved into an Access project so that It can be integrated with other forms. When I did this I realized that my database queries needed to be changed from Access to SQL code. for example instead of representing a date as #DATE# it needed to be represented as 'DATE'.
However I have one issue that I am having issues with.
I have a query that determines a few collumns by running information through a vb function and returning the result.
The issue is I do not know how to convert this code from Access to SQL so that it will work.
The code is
SELECT Action_Indef([DUE],IIf(IsNull([WAIVER]),[DUE],[WAIVER]),[LOG_NO]) AS [Action], TESTSTAT.*, Action_date([DUE],IIf(IsNull([WAIVER]),[DUE],[WAIVER])) AS Action_Date_Field, IIf([DUE]<[WAIVER],[WAIVER],[DUE]) AS Later
FROM TESTSTAT
WHERE [LOG_NO] LIKE '*'
ORDER BY Action_Indef([DUE],IIf(IsNull([WAIVER]),[DUE],[WAIVER]),[LOG_NO]);
Can someone provide me with a sutible sql equvalent to this code
Thank You
Mike

Basically I have a table setup where Time Fields are stored. What I need to do is in a Query, have the difference of two Time Fields calculated, and then displayed on a Report. Here's what I have so far...
Table
- Start Time
- End Time
Query
Difference Time: DateDiff("n",[Start Time],[End Time])
All that works fine and shows up on the report, except for the fact that the time is showed in straight minutes, so for a difference of 1:30 minutes, it just shows 90 minutes. I need to make it so that on the report in the Difference Time Text Box, it's showed as 1:30 instead of 90.
I tried putting the following in the Control Source for the Difference Time Text Box on the report, but it returns an error.
=[Difference Time] 60 & Format([Difference Time] Mod 60, ":00")

I am trying to remove random characters from a field. The field [assycode] contains a string similar to say, FGEJBF1 or ABFGYRUKC I want to remove any occurrence of "F1" normally at the end of the string but not always at the end. I used: Like "*f1*" to find the correct records, that worked fine, I then used [Assycode]-" f1" in the update to box, It wants to update 146 records I click ok then it says It couldn't due to a type conversion error. Just messing around I tried adding "F1" to these records using [Assycode]+" f1" and it worked fine. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance
Wayne

I have a database where two tables contain information that I need to update based on the 4 right most digits of a field. There are only 11 values that will need to be updated out of a large list of values. I'm not quite sure how to set up the update query so that I can do this.

I have two tables, each has a "status" for a project. In the left table there is only one instance of each set, but in the right hand table, each set may be used more than once by different Projects.
I need the Status field of the left table to be set to "Assigned" if ANY of the sets assigned to projects in the right hand table are "Assinged"
Here is the update query I have setup but when it runs, it updates "0" rows.
8 is the id for the status "Assigned" in the SetStatus table
2 is the id for the status "Assigned" in the Status table.

I run a physical therapy office and patients come in for treatment either 3, 4 or 5 times per week. My database is used to track these frequencies (among other things).
I have 3 queries which count how many patients come in 5, 4 and 3 times/week.
In my main table I have fields called "how many 5's", "how many 4's" and "how many 3's".
I have tried to design an update query which will update those fileds in my main table to reflect the counts in the 3 queries mentioned above.
(I'm not using SQL view, I'm using the query design view)
In the "update to:" row, I use the Build function and locate the count I'm looking for.
Problem: when I run the query I get the error: Operation must use an updateable query.

I have a form which will be used as the basis to print a label.
It is bound to a query and when I open the form I pass over a 'where' condition to return 1 record. I then use the query to produce a report/label.
What I want to do is to update the form/query without updating the underlying tables to the query.

Hello Everyone,
First of all thanks alot for investing your valuable time in reading my query, I wonder if someone can kindly educate me on how to convert an access database.mdb file to an executable .exe file. Also is there a way to create an installation package to install the database to many Computers.
Thanks Again

I have a dbase that was created in access XP. We are in the process of upgrading to office 2003. For the most part the database works fine. However, I have 1 form that has a few fields that have conditional formatting
on them and when the form opens those fields flash very fast continuously all most like the tab key is being held down. No matter what I do I can't get it to stop. Has anyone seen anything like this and how do I make it stop?

This is the error i get...
This error is usually associated with compiling a large database into an MDE file.* Due to the method used to compile the database, a considerable number of TableID references are created for each table.* The Microsoft Jet database engine version 4.0 can only create a maximum of 2048 open TableIDs at one time.* Exporting a database as an MDE potentially can exceed this limit if the database has a large number of objects (table, macro, form, report, etc).
There is no accurate method to estimate the number of TableIDs the Jet database engine uses during the process of compiling a database as an MDE.* However, each VBA module and each form uses one TableID, as a result, if the database has 500 forms, and each form's HasModule property is set to Yes, as many as 1,000 TableIDs are used.
More information about this error message online.
My database is by no means big, is there any other way i can convert from mdb to mde?
Thanks

Hi.
For years several agencies have used a database written and maintained in Access 97.
One adminstartor has both 97 and 200 on his computer and no problem. Until now, that is.
When I try copying a revised front end, and opening it, I get 'unrecogized database format' message.
My hunch i sthat said administartor accidentally opned the basck end with 2000 and converted it.
So, can the back end be unconveted/reverted back to 97?
Any other suggestions?

I have a problem converting access 97 mdb files into access 2000. There are multiple access databases that use a mdw workgroup on a network drive. I do have the ability to log on as an admin. Access 2000 is not letting me convert the files to the new format (telling me I don't have permission). The databases do have lots of forms, queries, macros and such.
Would the easiest method be to remove the userlevel security or is it possible to get around that? If I were to remove the user level security is it as simple as loggin in as admin, deleting all user account, granting all permissions to users and admin and removing the password?
Any help is much appreciated.

Hi All
I am currently compiling an Access DB to manage my work in progress, Payments due etc.
The DB is starting to work well and have requests from fellow contractors to purchase a copy (there are over 400 subcontractors in the group), with this in mind I have decided that when I complete the DB I will take it to a proffessional programmer and have it converted to a fully standalone programm.
My question: Is there a programm format that is preferable or would C# be the best option or is there a product out there that I could purchase and use.
Thanks in Advance

I've started converting my dog straying database and have a weird result. This is split into front and back ends.
Result:
My PC Win XP Access 97 and 2003 works perfectly
PC 2 Win 2K Aceess 2003 ditto
PC 3 Win XP Access 97 and 2003
setup looks identical to mine no missing refeneces etc - No images will display in the image frame on the main form.
I have no hair left. Any ideas??
