Update Query Is Updating Multiple Fields With Duplicate Data

Nov 1, 2012

I'm running an update query that's based on a select query (that runs some calculations). The update query is updating ALL the rows that should be updated with the information in the select query with data from the final row in the select query, and not on a per ID basis as I think I have it set-up to do. The data looks correct in the update query, but again it's not coming out right.

Here's the SQL for what I've written so far:

UPDATE [Customer_Data Query], Customer_Data INNER JOIN Baseline ON Customer_Data.ID = Baseline.ID SET Baseline.[Unit Hours] = [Customer_Data]![Dur_Days]*[Customer_Data]![Dur_Hours]*[Customer_Data]![Number_Units], Baseline.Availability = [Customer_Data]![Perceived_Avail], Baseline.[Hours Available] = [Customer_Data]![Dur_Days]*[Customer_Data]![Dur_Hours]*[Customer_Data]![Number_Units]*[Customer_Data]![Perceived_Avail],
[Code] ....

I've also tried to force the update to the proper row by adding a criteria based on ID.

Select query, here it is:

SELECT Customer_Data.ID, Customer_Data.Data_Set_Version, Customer_Data.Number_Units, Customer_Data.Perceived_Avail, Customer_Data.MTTR_MTBF, Customer_Data.MT_TR_OR_BF_Hours, Customer_Data.Utilization, Customer_Data.Percent_Scheduled, Customer_Data.Sched_Percent_of_PM, Customer_Data.Sched_PM_Duration, Customer_Data.Sched_CBM_Duration, Customer_Data.Sched_CBM_From_PM, Customer_Data.React_Detect, Customer_Data.React_Rework, Customer_Data.React_False_Alarms,

[Code] ....

Update Query-multiple Fields,1 With Data, 1 Without

Apr 10, 2008

Access2007- Building a query to handle future input...

I run an update query that does what it is supposed to do and gives the proper values.

THEN I add a one more field to the source with the builder using + that has no data in it yet, the query fails and gives blanks, even though one of the fields in the source has data in it.

I would think that the "no data" field would be considered 0.00 value and be added together to the field that has values giving at least the value of the field with values as a result of the query.

Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change so that the no value and the value would be combined? I am using the builder to combine the values in the query.

Thanks.

Preventing Duplicate Data From Multiple Fields

Mar 4, 2008

Hello All,

I'm trying to limit the data entered into a specifc field, but also the data must be unique with respect to other fields.

i.e.
Two fields: System A & System B.
Data entered into System A, can not be entered into System B.

Anyway to prevent this from recurring?
Would I use a validation rule?

Thanks in advance

Updating Multiple Rows In One Update Query Help Please!

Mar 7, 2008

I have one table, I want to update multiple fields in that Table with values.Currently I have on update query for each update. So for exampleRows: Commercial Quotes, Cover Notes, Personal QuotesWill have the values: Yes, No, Yes in them.I need to update those fields, if they say Yes to Commercial Quotes, Cover Notes or Personal Quotes depending on the field obviously. And blank them out if it says No.Currently I have 30+ different queries I have to click individually one after the other to update each row. I was wondering if theres a quicker way of doing this all in one hit.I have a tiny bit of SQL knowledge. So one of the queries I've figured out I've converted to SQL but again it only updates one instance...UPDATE Enabler_Data SET Enabler_Data.[Commercial Quotes] = "Commercial Quotes" WHERE (((Enabler_Data.[Commercial Quotes]) = "YES"));I tried whacking an OR replacing the ; and repeating that statment replacing Commercial Quotes with Cover Notes but it errored out on me.This is where I get completely stuck and my meagre knowledge fails me so any help would be useful. Thanks in advanceMatt

Queries :: Append Multiple Data With Update Query?

Aug 6, 2013

In access Im working with two tables, this is my setup

tableA.documentnr
tableA.revison

tableB.documentnr
tableB.revision

Both tables are filled with data, Table B contains the same kind of data as table A, But tableA has documentnumbers with different revisions (for example revision a,b,c, for each revision a seperate row). Table B might have an identical document, but just one revision (like revision a).

Now I like to append the data of tableA to tableB, except if a revision is similiar to a revision in table A. (There is more metadata involved, but I will do it step by step)

Im not working with primarykey data, becayse in the end result table B will also have multiple (identical)document numbers with different revisions on different rows.

I tried to use the update query but it doenst append the documentnumbers where the revision is not present in table B I attached a image of the tables.

Duplicate/Multiple Fields In A Table (Recordset?)

Jan 30, 2006

Hi All,

A bit new to this, any help most appreciated.

I'm trying to set up a table which will have multiple fields (a recordset? is that right, if so I don't know how to set one up in access). Its for a skill set which is utilised by specific lines in a production plant.

Each line in the plant has a set of skills required. I have a skills table (SkillID and Skill), what I want to do is have a Skillset which I can then link to each line

So for example Skillset 1 with a SkillsetID will also have in that table skill 1, skill 2, skill 3, but all taken from the Skill table. However that would involve having the SkillID field numerous times in the same table, but this cannot be done?

The idea is that for each line I can link the Line table to the Skillset table and that tells you what skills are needed for that line.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks all.

Prevent Duplicate Records Based On Multiple Fields

Updating 1 Table That Updates Multiple Fields

Sep 20, 2006

I've been working on this problme for several weeks, thinking about it for the last month or so, and am at a loss of what to try next. I'm working on a database for my office that tracks all of the permits we have issued. Every year our permit fees increase by the CPI (consumer price index) and the permit fee entry in the table needs to be updated (75 to 80 entries).

Rather than typing them in every year (too many chances for errors) I'd like to be able to update our fee schedule table (8 entries, look up table) and have that table update all of our fee entries in the permit table.

Any ideas of how to go about this? Thank you for your help.

Forms :: Inventory - Allow Users To Update Multiple Fields For Multiple Assets

Sep 25, 2014

I want to create a form that allows users to update multiple fields for multiple assets. Below is what I came up with:

Ideally, I'd like the subform to be filled in by having the user select multiple Assets from the S/N combobox field which would then auto-populate the "Type" field. Then they would fill out the appropriate fields they want edited in the top part of the form. They hit save and magic happens. This would also be nice because only assets they want edited would be displayed (easier on the eyes) and no distinguishing would be necessary. To do it this way, I know I would need to use a temp table but I wanna avoid using temp tables.

I know I can do this by adding a Yes/No field in the "Asset" table, setting the "Asset" table as the subform's recordsource, and then putting a checkbox in the subform and allowing them to check the assets that they want to edit (which would also allow me to sort it instantly so that checked Assets are at the top of the datasheet for easy viewing), but I would like to know if there's a way of accomplishing this without the use of checkboxes.

I know I could also use a listbox and that allows them to multi-select items, but I'm not sure if that allows me to group all selected items at the top of the listbox for easy viewing of selected items. Plus it would involve a lot of scrolling (there are over 2k assets).

HELP!! Trying To Nomalize Existing Data By Updating Data Into New Fields

Dec 19, 2006

Hello Tech gurus,

I have a database with existing data, that is not normalized, and all the data is in one field... This what I am dealing with:

As you notice the first row of data in field1 C10A CHOLEST&TRIGLY has 3 spaces to the right the next row ALTORVASTIN has five spaces to the right, the next line LIPITOR has 7 spaces to the right, and so forth, hopefully you get at what I am trying to do, I just looked at the data and it is not showing up in view of the leading spaces, but I am trying to move the data based ONLY on the position of leading spaces, example all data that has 3 leading spaces would go into its own separate column, and all data that has 7 leading spaces would go into a separate column, I have tried to use the left, mid, len functions but I cannot figure out how to move the text and keep it whole only by data position of spaces.

Field1:
C10A CHOLEST&TRIGLY
ATORVASTATIN
LIPITOR
PFIZER
SIMVASTATIN
SIMVASTATIN TEVA
TEVA
M1A ANTIRHEUMATIC N-STEROID
ETODOLAC
ETOPAN
TARO PHARMA
Thanks so much for your help...

Queries :: Duplicate Data From Two Different Fields

Jul 2, 2014

Any way to query duplicate data from two different fields from two different tables in the same access 2010 project. I first quried the first part since it combines the first 3 columns to create another value (i.e. 52 & 60 = 5260).

So I created the concatenative value but now I have to compare to another field to display what results are found in both the concatenative and the other (APN in the file). I tried using query wizard but it is for only one field. I understand you have to use joins but the destination filed is what gets me.

Updating Fields In Table With New Data - Help

Storing Data In Two Fields Without Allowing Duplicate Entries

Mar 19, 2005

I need to know if I can store data in more than one field, without allowing Duplicate entries.

Example: We have to send out letters with a claim number on it, sometimes we need multiple claim numbers on a letter, up to about 10 claim #'s is the most I've seen thus far.

We mail merge into Word to create the letters.

However, these claim numbers cannot be duplicated within the database and in order for this to work with the mail merge, I need several fields to store the claim numbers.

Fields are:
ClaimNumber
ClaimNumber2
ClaimNumber3
etc....

To be more specific. I probably have a bad data structure as I was kind of rushed and a little inexperience with putting the database together. It's for work and sometimes management just doesn't want to wait, they are so negative.

In brief, most everything is in 1 table and I know from reading this forum that I shouldn't do that, but that's another story.

Further, a claim# is tied together by the same claimant, the relationship code is what separates the claimant with the family, the insured id# is used for all claimants within the family.

You can also tie the claim# to a provider id#, some providers such as clinics and large hospitals have multiple providers that use the same provider id#, so a suffix code is used to separate the providers within that same #.

Please feel free to ask additional questions and I will give you the additional information you need to help me. Thanks again.

P.S. - Last year I created the database and this year I am improving it, so expect more posts from me in the future. I really appreciate all the help I get from everyone here!!!!

Queries :: Get Rid Of Duplicate Records That Show Different Data In Multiple Columns

Sep 8, 2013

I have 10 tables linked in one query. 9 tables are linked to one main table (one to many relationship).I want to get rid of duplicate records that show different data in multiple columns. I want only one record of this but retain with different data under different columns to be separated by commas. For example: I want this...

Code:
Employee # Name Course Start Date Completion Date
1 John Smith MS Office Training 1/1/2010 5/1/2010
1 John Smith Python Training 1/30/2011 4/1/2011
1 John Smith Leadership Development 6/27/2013 9/1/2013
1 John Smith Sensitivity Training 9/5/2010 -
2 Hank Joel MS Office Training 8/1/2010 10/1/2010
2 Hank Joel Sensitivity Training 8/1/2010 10/1/2010
2 Hank Joel WHMIS Training 11/15/2010 12/1/2010
3 Jane Doe Leadership Training 7/18/2011 9/26/2012

To turn like this:

Code:
Employee # Name Course Start Date Completion Date
1 John Smith MS Office Training, Python Training, Leadership Development, Sensitivity Training 1/1/2010, 1/30/2011, 6/27/2013, 9/5/2010 5/1/2010, 4/1/2011, 9/1/2013, -
2 Hank Joel MS Office Training, Sensitivity Training, WHMIS Training 8/1/2010, 8/1/2010, 11/15/2010 10/1/2010, 10/1/2010, 12/1/2010
3 Jane Doe Leadership Training 7/18/2011 9/26/2012

I am using two tables to find the data (main - "employee tbl" and "courses tbl")I have been trying to follow Allen Browne`s method, but I`m unsuccessful. This is the code I've put in SQL of this query:

Quote:

SELECT [Employee #], ConcatRelated("[Courses]", "[Courses tbl]", "[Employee #] =" & [Employee #]) from [Employee Tbl]
SELECT [Employee #], ConcatRelated("[Start Date]", "[Courses tbl]", "[Employee #] =" & [Employee #]) from [Employee Tbl]
SELECT [Employee #], ConcatRelated("[Completion Date]", "[Courses tbl]", "[Employee #] =" & [Employee #]) from [Employee Tbl];

However, I am prompt with "Syntax error in query expression".It also prompts another expression to be in error when I include the above but it runs okay when I don't do the above:

Quote:

WHERE (([Employee Tbl].[Employee #]) Like [Enter Employee ID or leave blank for ALL employees] & "*")

I placed the following in VBA module:

Code:
Public Function ConcatRelated(strField As String, _
strTable As String, _
Optional strWhere As String, _
Optional strOrderBy As String, _

Update Multiple Fields At Once

Sep 6, 2007

Hey guys-
I have 2 identical tables. I want to update the data from Table1 to go into Table2. Each table has well over 70+ fields in them. Instead of handwriting out each [Table].[Field] in either SQL or the Designer- is there a shortcut to tell Access to grab all the fields from Table1 and update all the fields in Table2 (all the fields have the same name)? I just don't have the energy to type it all out- I figure there's got to be a way...

I know when you do an APPEND query in the designer- it will do this for you- but not the UPDATE query...
Thanks!

Update Fields In Multiple Tables

Jun 27, 2005

I am trying to setup a database for vehicle stock control.
Im not sure if I have gone about this the right way as I am new to this but thus far it is working correctly except for one annoying problem.
The database consists of so far

tblIAWVehicleDetails (Primary key "IAWvehicleID" autonumber)
tblIAWSellers (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWBuyers (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWStates (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWStatus (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWSafetyDetails (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWSold (Primary key autonumber)

In the Vehicle Details table a stock number has to be manually added as this will be used for new stock as well as current stock (Number range from 100 - whatever) "IAWVehicleNo".
This table contains all relevent data with reguards to make, model, bodytype, color etc.
The sellers table contains the details of the seller Name, address, Phone, LicenceNo etc.
The Buyers table contains employee names.
The States table contains all Australian states.
The Status table contains current vehicle status Retail, Wholesale, Wrecking etc.
The Sold table contains the details of the person who purchased the vehicle if sold.
The Safety details table contains a safety checklist for pre purchase inspections eg: Headlights yes/no checkbox, Headlight text field for any extra info.
It also has a field for a safety Certificate No once the vehicle is checked and recieves a Safety cert.
The forms are setup as
frmIAWVehicleDetails
frmIAWSellers Subform
frmIAWVehicleSafetyDetails
frmIAWVehicleSafetyDetails Subform

The Vehicle Details,Sellers,Sold & SafetyDetails tables all have the IAWVehicleID & IAWVehicleNo Fields but when the details are entered through the forms the IAWVehicleNo which is the manually entered number only updates to the tblIAWVehiclesDetails but the other IAWVehicleNo fields in the other tables remain blank.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
