Update One Field Using Criteria From Multiple Fields

Apr 4, 2013

I am designing an update query for a specific field in my table

There are 3 fields: PROVIDER_GROUP, MEDI_CAL_IND, MEMBER_LOW_CAT

I want to update the value of "Y" in the MEDI_CAL_IND field to "N" if:

the medi_cal_ind value is "Y" AND the PROVIDER_GROUP is "Medicare_Part_D"

OR

the medi-cal_ind value is "Y" AND the MEMBER_LOW_CAT is "Commercial"

A screenshot of the table is attached.

Update Query Same Field Multiple Criteria

Jan 12, 2007

Hello,

Was wondering if there is a way without building individual update queries, to update info in one field that has multiple criteria ?

Basically I need to change/update daily multiple ID numbers to new ID numbers, long story on why this needs to be done but for now I need to do it this way.

Example: 12345 update to ABCDE, 6789 update to FGHI, etc. These ID's are all within the same field in the table.

It works fine running each ID one at a time but was wondering if it is possible to do all these updates within one query or code ?

Thanks for any assistance

Queries :: Update Query Same Field Multiple Criteria?

Apr 21, 2013

I need to update the periodtype field in my table depending on different values in the field Formtype- I am looking to do this without having to use VBA. I have the following fields in a table - I want to update the value of the field Period_type as follows -

When Formtype is 10-Q, update Periodtype to "Quarterly"

When Formtype is 10-K, update Periodtype to "Annual"

The current value of Periodtype for both formtypes is "Semiannual"

Can I do this using only update query?

I'm Sure This Is Very Easy: Update Multiple Fields Based On One Field...

Jul 26, 2006

I promise I have searched, but I hav spent 10 minutes reading through posts that are unrelated...

What is the code to have multiple fields updaterd based on what is input into a field?

---
Example:

A ZIP Code Field, which updates City & State on the form when entered. (I have a table that has over 39,000 ZIPs w/ City & State already there)

I have several applications for this, but if someone could explain this use to me, I will be able to figure it out.

Thanks a million!!!

Tables :: Update Single Field From Multiple Fields

Nov 6, 2014

I wrote a database several years ago and recently pulled it out to give to a friend. The problem is, back then (not knowing better) I set the Employee table up with as a single field "NAME". Now, in order to make it effective, I need the Employee's name in four (4) parts (First, Middle, Last, Suffix).

I have several queries based on the "NAME" field and and would like to avoid changing all of them. I have a simple form "frmUpdateEmployees" that populates the Employee table and Name field. I was hoping to change the form and/or add a query that would be easier and more simple.

Table: Employee
Field: Name
Form: frmUpdateEmployees
Queries: 16 that depend on the table and field above.

Using Criteria To Update Fields In A Update Query

Nov 29, 2006

Ok, i have a question about update queries.I have two tables (I'll call table 1 and table two for simplicity) and an update query. I want to get some data from table one to table two (via an update query). But in table two there is a field that isn't in table one but i want to add a value to that field via the query. My question is, can i manually put into the query what data to add to a field instead of/aswell as using data from other tables.I hope you understood my questions.Cheers

Forms :: Inventory - Allow Users To Update Multiple Fields For Multiple Assets

Sep 25, 2014

I want to create a form that allows users to update multiple fields for multiple assets. Below is what I came up with:

Ideally, I'd like the subform to be filled in by having the user select multiple Assets from the S/N combobox field which would then auto-populate the "Type" field. Then they would fill out the appropriate fields they want edited in the top part of the form. They hit save and magic happens. This would also be nice because only assets they want edited would be displayed (easier on the eyes) and no distinguishing would be necessary. To do it this way, I know I would need to use a temp table but I wanna avoid using temp tables.

I know I can do this by adding a Yes/No field in the "Asset" table, setting the "Asset" table as the subform's recordsource, and then putting a checkbox in the subform and allowing them to check the assets that they want to edit (which would also allow me to sort it instantly so that checked Assets are at the top of the datasheet for easy viewing), but I would like to know if there's a way of accomplishing this without the use of checkboxes.

I know I could also use a listbox and that allows them to multi-select items, but I'm not sure if that allows me to group all selected items at the top of the listbox for easy viewing of selected items. Plus it would involve a lot of scrolling (there are over 2k assets).

Forms :: Find And Update A Record Using Multiple Criteria

May 30, 2015

I Have a forms which brings up a record in textboxes when you hit a search Button using a value that you type into a Textbox called BarTxt. My problem is that this value may not be unique. Therefore I'm trying to find and update the table using 2 values from the table (Barcode and PurchaseOrder).I have entered the code

Code:

Private Sub SearchBtn_Click()
PNTxt = DLookup("PartNumber", "BookInTable", "BarCode ='" & [BarTxt] & "'" And "PurchaseOrder ='" & [POTxt] & "'")
End Sub

This however is just bringing up a Type mismatch error. Even though both are text fields. Also even if I just use Barcode to search which works. My update Code

Code:

DoCmd.RunSQL "Update BookInTable SET DateBookedOut = '" & Me!DateTxt & "' WHERE BarCode ='" & [BarTxt] & "'" AND PurchaseOrder ='" & [POTxt] &

I get an Compile error saying "expected expression".

Update Multiple Fields At Once

Sep 6, 2007

Hey guys-
I have 2 identical tables. I want to update the data from Table1 to go into Table2. Each table has well over 70+ fields in them. Instead of handwriting out each [Table].[Field] in either SQL or the Designer- is there a shortcut to tell Access to grab all the fields from Table1 and update all the fields in Table2 (all the fields have the same name)? I just don't have the energy to type it all out- I figure there's got to be a way...

I know when you do an APPEND query in the designer- it will do this for you- but not the UPDATE query...
Thanks!

Reports :: Conditional Formatting On Multiple Fields Based On Two Criteria

Sep 24, 2014

I have a report which I would like to apply conditional formatting on multiple fields. I would like the conditional formatting to be based on two types of criteria

First criteria would be contracts that start with the year 2014. I used the following expression which worked - InStr(1,[ContractNr],"2014" AND [DirectorInCharge]= "Joseph Steinbok" or "Adam Godson")

To this expression I would also like to highlight fields which contracts start with 2014 AND have a particular Director assigned to it. For this I used the following expression - And [DirectorInCharge]="Name"

On their own, both expressions are working but I want to combine them. How do I do this? I've tried the following - InStr(1,[ContractNr],"2014" AND [DirectorInCharge]= "Name") but then nothing is highlighted. I also tried InStr(1,[ContractNr],"2014") AND [DirectorInCharge]= "Name" - in this instance EVERY record was highlighted.

Update Fields In Multiple Tables

Jun 27, 2005

I am trying to setup a database for vehicle stock control.
Im not sure if I have gone about this the right way as I am new to this but thus far it is working correctly except for one annoying problem.
The database consists of so far

tblIAWVehicleDetails (Primary key "IAWvehicleID" autonumber)
tblIAWSellers (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWBuyers (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWStates (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWStatus (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWSafetyDetails (Primary key autonumber)
tblIAWSold (Primary key autonumber)

In the Vehicle Details table a stock number has to be manually added as this will be used for new stock as well as current stock (Number range from 100 - whatever) "IAWVehicleNo".
This table contains all relevent data with reguards to make, model, bodytype, color etc.
The sellers table contains the details of the seller Name, address, Phone, LicenceNo etc.
The Buyers table contains employee names.
The States table contains all Australian states.
The Status table contains current vehicle status Retail, Wholesale, Wrecking etc.
The Sold table contains the details of the person who purchased the vehicle if sold.
The Safety details table contains a safety checklist for pre purchase inspections eg: Headlights yes/no checkbox, Headlight text field for any extra info.
It also has a field for a safety Certificate No once the vehicle is checked and recieves a Safety cert.
The forms are setup as
frmIAWVehicleDetails
frmIAWSellers Subform
frmIAWVehicleSafetyDetails
frmIAWVehicleSafetyDetails Subform

The Vehicle Details,Sellers,Sold & SafetyDetails tables all have the IAWVehicleID & IAWVehicleNo Fields but when the details are entered through the forms the IAWVehicleNo which is the manually entered number only updates to the tblIAWVehiclesDetails but the other IAWVehicleNo fields in the other tables remain blank.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Update Query-multiple Fields,1 With Data, 1 Without

Apr 10, 2008

Access2007- Building a query to handle future input...

I run an update query that does what it is supposed to do and gives the proper values.

THEN I add a one more field to the source with the builder using + that has no data in it yet, the query fails and gives blanks, even though one of the fields in the source has data in it.

I would think that the "no data" field would be considered 0.00 value and be added together to the field that has values giving at least the value of the field with values as a result of the query.

Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change so that the no value and the value would be combined? I am using the builder to combine the values in the query.

Thanks.

Queries :: Allowing Users To Select Multiple Table Fields As Query Criteria

Apr 22, 2013

I am fairly new to Access and I would like to create a form to allow users to create their own query. I would like to allow users to select multiple fields (perhaps with checkboxes?) from all possible fields in a table to return either all data from that field or narrow their search by inputting certain criteria or choosing from a drop down into a text box. Is this possible in Access and any detailed specifics on how to achieve this?

How To Set Field / Table And Criteria In Update Query

Jan 10, 2013

I have a form that run a query to select all the students taught by a given faculty member. Once the records are loaded, the faculty enters attendance data, selects a date from a combo box and hits a save button.I change my relationship and now need to be able to store the key for the field in the combobox and not the text.

How do I set the field, table and criteria in the update query to do this. The UD query uses the FacultyStudents query as its record source. Currently the FacultyStudents querry does not have the Key or the date fields since the date is selected by the faculty once their records are loaded. As I see it there is now way to make a join, so I think I either need VBA or SQL, which I am not very good (really bad) at wriitng. Can the necessary Sql be written in the query design view?

Update Query Is Updating Multiple Fields With Duplicate Data

Nov 1, 2012

I'm running an update query that's based on a select query (that runs some calculations). The update query is updating ALL the rows that should be updated with the information in the select query with data from the final row in the select query, and not on a per ID basis as I think I have it set-up to do. The data looks correct in the update query, but again it's not coming out right.

Here's the SQL for what I've written so far:

UPDATE [Customer_Data Query], Customer_Data INNER JOIN Baseline ON Customer_Data.ID = Baseline.ID SET Baseline.[Unit Hours] = [Customer_Data]![Dur_Days]*[Customer_Data]![Dur_Hours]*[Customer_Data]![Number_Units], Baseline.Availability = [Customer_Data]![Perceived_Avail], Baseline.[Hours Available] = [Customer_Data]![Dur_Days]*[Customer_Data]![Dur_Hours]*[Customer_Data]![Number_Units]*[Customer_Data]![Perceived_Avail],
[Code] ....

I've also tried to force the update to the proper row by adding a criteria based on ID.

Select query, here it is:

SELECT Customer_Data.ID, Customer_Data.Data_Set_Version, Customer_Data.Number_Units, Customer_Data.Perceived_Avail, Customer_Data.MTTR_MTBF, Customer_Data.MT_TR_OR_BF_Hours, Customer_Data.Utilization, Customer_Data.Percent_Scheduled, Customer_Data.Sched_Percent_of_PM, Customer_Data.Sched_PM_Duration, Customer_Data.Sched_CBM_Duration, Customer_Data.Sched_CBM_From_PM, Customer_Data.React_Detect, Customer_Data.React_Rework, Customer_Data.React_False_Alarms,

[Code] ....

Multiple Criteria Set Via Form Field...

Mar 24, 2005

Hello,
...I'm not sure if I'm making this question more complex or not or if it's even possible? (I would think so) Anyway...What I am trying to do is create a form in which I can input more than one criteria into a field - We will cal it txtSetValues. Then via a button open a query that will use txtCode as the criteria for searching records in a table. The
table is called: tblMASTERTABLE-EmpCount
query is called: qryEmpCount

The table currently only has two field; ORG and Name. The criteria I have in ORG is: Like [Forms]![frmEmpCount]![txtCode]
I currently can find any specific ORG just fine. I can also use the wildcard and that works fine. But how can I set it up so that I can enter in multiples... For example, I would like to find all employees that there org is either; AL001 OR AL010 OR AL100 - The wildcard will 'Almost' do it in some circumstances, but it may gather some orgs that I don't want in this list. I hope I am explaining this in an easily understood fashion?

Thanks,
---roystreet
P.S. Now I know I could just make multiple fields in the form (ie; txtCode2, txtCode3,etc) and then just add those as criteria in the query, but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do that.

Queries :: Multiple Criteria For Same Field

Jul 3, 2014

I am trying to build a query where the result is one line per ID with all results for W(eek)E(nding) on the same line.

ID ---- UOM ---- WEJUN20 ---- WEJUN27 --- WEJUL4
6 ---- Hours --- ---250 -- --- --- - -- 278 -- -- --- --- 242

The result I am getting is in the format below:

ID --- UOM --- WEJUN20 --- WEJUN27 --- WEJUL4
6 --- Hours --- ---250
6 --- Hours --- --- --- --- ---- --- --278
6 --- Hours -- --- -- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---- -- 242

This is the trimmed down part of the query that is causing the result.

Code:

Comparing Two Fields In One Criteria Field

Aug 9, 2005

Hi,
I just started doing something in access and need your help.
I have created a database and need to create a query which will sort all important fields within a certain time period. I have a date field and in the criteria field I wrote an expression:">Forms![Insert_date_form]![starting_date_field] and < Forms![insert_date_form]![ending_date_field]"

Its purpose is to show all fields which date is between this to dates. User will have to enter this dates in a separate form(Insert_date_form) which will store it in a small database containing only these two fields, e.g. generate report of all employees that are started working within a period between starting_date and a ending date. When I try to create and open a report based on this query I've been prompted with a small dialog which says: Enter parameter value.... for starting_date_field and same for ending_date_field. I don't need that. These dates are allready entered by user in a insert_date form and stored in its databese.

Is there a beter way to do this?

Thanks!
P.S. Sorry for my poor english. It's not my native language.

Queries :: Using Same Field Multiple Times Under Varying Criteria?

Dec 30, 2014

Preamble edit: I'm running Access 2003.

I have two tables, Students and AttendanceRecords.

Students just has studentID and studentName

AttendanceRecords has AttRecID, studentID, presence, thedate

I'm looking to create what looks like an Excel grid, with the last 10 days as columns and the student names as rows. All the cells in middle will be filled with the values of 'presence' for that student/day (e.g., P for present, A for absent).

Here's something I'm currently considering.

-I could make 10 queries, each using LEFT JOIN to connect studentName with presence & thedate on studentID, varying the 10 queries only in that 'thedate' will have a criteria of Date() -1 , Date() -2 , etc.
-If I'm understanding it correctly, I'll then have 10 tables, each containing 3 rows -- student name, presence, and the date (with each table having only 1 date repeated throughout).
-I could then join those 10 queries together on studentName, theoretically resulting in 1 big table with all the student names and the corresponding presence values for the last 10 days

If I do that, I could make a form in Continuous view and have each row show the studentName and 10 text boxes closely bunched up with presence values.

That seems very inefficient? Making 10 queries separately and then manually merging them seems redundant.

Also, now that I think about it, will the final product end up being read-only, or if the user changes one of the presence cells will it update the corresponding record in AttendanceRecord?
