Access 97 Upgrading To 2003

May 9, 2006

My company has finally bitten the bullet and decided to upgrade their systems before their software goes out of date for user support. However, this means that they are about tio upgrade from Office 97 to Office 2003 running on a Windows 2000 operating system.
How much of an issue am I going to face in converting my databases into the new format. I realise there will be DAO/ADO issues but is there going to be anything else? I am acutely aware that I will be having to sort databases out across the whole company nationwide and the fewer surprises, the better.
Has anyone been through this and if so what were the issues?

Regards

Jason

Upgrading Amended Db Schema Via Mde

Aug 22, 2007

We have added new columns to a table in our developer db. Now we need to get these columns into the client's system.

Their computer is running on Access runtime, so if we change our existing Access db into a Mde would it be possible to upgrade their database with the changes without corrupting any of the client's data? We're quite happy to overwrite the forms, queries etc. but what happens to the client's data? especially when we have made some changes to the database schema e.g added new columns to the table?

We'd be grateful for any help.

Upgrading Tables & Queries

Feb 17, 2008

I have several clients using the same database structure. If I do any upgrades or mods I currently manually add the new fields to each database. Is there an easier way?

Is there an easy way to upgrade a whole MS Database based on another? Can I either import just the new structure and not duplicate tables; or export and then import to my new blank database with the new structure?

Upgrading Secured Backend Database

Sep 15, 2006

Hi :)

(A2K format, but running on XP, etc)

I have used Microsoft’s Security FAQ and recommendations on this forum and build a split database; secured with one worgroup file for development and one for customers: what is the most appropriate way to upgrade the backend database content (tables mostly) (as the front-end database can just be replaced) at the customers site?

At the customer there is no development workgroup file, so no permissions to change database objects. I would really like to run sql updates from the new FE database. The solution I currently have devised to go around this problem, involves a lot of manual data moving code, to take care of referential integrity etc. However this approach has a higher risk of creating errors and also takes a lot longer time.

Is there something I have misunderstood of the Security FAQ or recommendation on this forum?

Thanx
:)

General :: Autonumber Is Out Of Sync After Upgrading To Access 2010

Aug 16, 2012

We have been using a shared database (on the server and it's not spilt) that was converted to MDE file and was created in Access 2003, without any issues for more than 5 years now.

Since we upgraded our office to 2010 (and access 2010) all the sudden the autonumber field starts generates a number that is about 40 to 50 records less than what is should generates. All the records for the missing 40 to 50 numbers are still there and we can search them.

The only work around is to run the database and open a new data entry form (at which time the autonumber field will generates a new number) then close the form, and we keep doing that until we reach the number that should be generated next.

Is It Possible To Integrate MS Access Application To A Web Application??!!

Jun 11, 2007

We have an extensive reporting application in Access and would like it to be available through a web application. I've went down the road of migrating this application to SQL to use SQL Reporting Services; this is a good tool but I am wondering if MS Access has an easier solution for me other than migration to SQL.

I'm looking for a solution that will make these reports available over the web for many users. Price tag is a consideration...need to know if there is any.

Please help...thanks in advance for any thoughts!!!!

Access 2007 Crashes On Excel 2007 Import

Mar 21, 2008

On trying to import an Excel 2007 file into Access 2007 I get the following:

1) Choose "External Data," Import, Exce
2) Select small file in MS Excel 2007 format.
3) Click on Import the source data into a new table ...
4) Choose OK

Immediately get "Microsoft Office Access has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..." This message never resolves, so I have to click 'Cancel'.

Then I get "Microsoft Office Access is trying to recover your information..." I have to click "Cancel" here as well and then kill MS Access in Task Manager.

Event Viewer gives following message, which is of no help:
"ID: 2, Application Name: Microsoft Office Access, Application Version: 12.0.6211.1000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6215.1000. This session lasted 710 seconds with 120 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash."

Trying to import a small Excel 2003 file leads the same result. The same happens with a CSV file.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 as well. I am using Vista Ultimate.

I have turned off DEP.

How can I get MS Access 2007 to import Excel?

Thanks

Ken

Access 2007 Runtime Not Visible In Access 2007

Nov 26, 2007

I installed Office Enterprise 2007. Then I installed DEveloper Exrtensions, then Access Runtime 2007. All appear to have installed OK - they appear in Program and Features.
Instructions on runtime packaging tell me that a Developer option should appear in the resulting drop-down when I click the Office button (top-left round thing) when I have a d/b open in Access. It's not there! I have un-installed and re-installed the extensions and the runtime - still nothing!
Help!
I do have Runtime 2002 (XP) on the same PC, is that relevant?

Application

Aug 9, 2005

When putting together the final application, you don't want the user to see all the usual default menu options.

1) Which access items should I hide?

2)Let's say I make some modifications after we go live. How can I get the new forms, modules or whatever to the .mdb in use? Would I just delete the tables in the modified .mdb and then import (File/Get External Date/import) the tables with the live data?. It's not a split db, btw.

3) Are there any other options or procedures I should think about for maintainence? For instance, right now I use the compact on close option which has proved to be very useful.

Thanks,

scratch

Can anyone point me in the right direction to produce an application diagram.

Sort of a map of an app, what data it hold in laymans terms rathers than table and field definitions. What forms do what, and how the whole application fits together.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Open Application

Sep 21, 2005

This seems like a very silly question but I wondered if someone could tell me how I open up another mdb file from a form?

I've tried the following

On Error GoTo Err_Command976_Click
DoCmd.Quit

Dim stAppName As String

stAppName = "S:updateUpdateMDEUtility.mdb"
Call Shell(stAppName, 1)

Exit_Command976_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_Command976_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command976_Click

End Sub

But I just keep getting "Invalid Call Procedure or Argument"

Many Thanks

Application's Deployment HELP

Jul 13, 2007

Hello,
I have finished a program with ACCESS 2007 (VBA) at work. Now, my boss wants his employees to use it from different computers. What would I have to do to make this work?? I suppose ACCESS has a runtime version or executable that I can install on every computer of the company? Or do I have to install ACCESS 2007 on every terminal (which would be very bad by the way)?? I would appreciate it if somebody would give me a hand on this since I have never done this before.

Thank you very much

PS: All the computers are on a network

Application Problem

Mar 19, 2008

I have been asked to make changes to an app that is WAY more complicated than anything I've ever done. The changes themselves are no problem (add 3 new fields to each of two tables and modify 2 forms and a report). The problem is after I make the changes the app doesn't work. The database (even stripped of all but 10 records) is too big to upload here. (2.5M)

I need to add 2 text fields (Route and Region) each 10 chars. and a yes/no field (Early Delivery) to the Order Head table and the Location table. I need to add those three fields to the Order Head and Location forms and get the info to copy over from the Location table if they select a reception location from the drop down on the Order Head form.

I have at least two possible problems. The first is as soon as I add the fields to the table and the Order Head form the form doesn't open in Data Entry mode. If I change the Data Entry property on the form to Yes, it works (although I think from looking at the code that it should have been set automatically when the New Order button was clicked on the switchboard). The second problem is that once I change the Data Entry property to Yes I can't add records to the subforms (the message is that a record must be added to Order Head first).

So....something I'm doing appears to be circumventing the code that commits the record.

I'd really appreciate any help.

OrderHead Code (I cut a lot out so the message wasn't too big)

Option Compare Database ' Use database order for string comparisons.
Option Explicit ' Requires variables to be declared before they are used.

Launch Application

Apr 6, 2005

I have a command button on a form, and on its onClick event i have placed the following statement in order to open a specific word document:

Call Shell("C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 10Winword.exe C:TempTest.doc", vbMaximizedFocus)

This works fine, however I noticed that if the path for the specific document contains a space, it does not open up successfully but i get a msgbox saying "the document name or path are not valid"

Any suggestions please ?

Thank You
