I'm currently designing a small database which will be distributed to users most probably using the access2007 runtime. I would like to be able to ship the database with a default username and password. Is this possible in acces 2007 ?
If it is possible, how would I go about enabling individual users to change the default username/password and set up a username/password of their choice ?
Can you tell me please is there any way to set password to form design view button in a .mdb database? I have seen it somewhere that a guy set password if you want to view his modules in a design view. Is it possible to do the same with forms, reports etc. Any help is very welcome.
I am not sure how to do this. I am trying to do up a password form where there is a user name and a password. There will only be 5 user names, one being an admin. I seen it in the Running Microsoft Access 2000 book (it's just a reference manual) but could not figure it out.
I am getting ready to set up my database with users who will need to log on. I did a test on a sample database, but for some reason, my database became unavailable, and it never gave me a login box. Is there somewhere one could point me for some detailed info on setting up users and levels in MS Acess? All of the books I have on Access just kind of skim over the subject.
Secondly, in a select query, is there a way to assign a field that is part of a table a value. For instance, upon running the select query could I assign the field CurrentUser =user() ? If so, then how would I do this? I am using data access pages for data entry, and I want to be able to track the person who enters the record without them entering their username for every record they process, but, here is the drawback, they are not starting new records, they are merely adding to a record that someone else started.
Even assigning the value =user() on the data acess page field does not rectify this problem. This only works when you start a new record. I am really stuck on this one, and I know virtually nothing about SQL or Visual Basic..... the last time I programmed was in the 80's and I was a whiz at BASIC and PASCAL, lol. I know, I know, I need to get off my rear and start trying to pick up on this stuff. Anyway, I think the answer to my problem somehow lies in assigning the field the value =user() from the query, but I am stuck on how to accomplish this.
I am trying to set up a password on a for different users to have to enter pins to enter data. When a user selects his/her name from the combo box the next field will be something like pin. When they enter the corresponding pin this will allow them to edit and start or continue (if they left) fill out the rest of this form.
The reason being this way is that if one of them goes back to a previous record done by another user (which I want them to be able to view) they can view it but cannot edit it because they do not have the users pin (or password). Is this able to be done, only allowed to edit or create a new record if you enter your pin every time.
I already have created & run an Access database for around 12 users. I now am looking to create a database that can have at least 30 users. Each one with a unique user ID & password (Using a security file ".mdw") Users log into a front end on a network environment. Now...My question...Is 30 to large of a user base for Access in a network environment??
I have an Access 2010 form within my database in which I have a series of 8 tabs on a tab control. I am the only user who will have access to these tabs. I want to require a password in order to permit access to the tabs. The very first tab on the tab control works as a cover tab. There is no relevant information for anyone to view...only a graphic.
How to code the "on change" event of the tab control.
I am working on stream lining reports for my application, so that I don't have a huge maze of menus.
I am open to any ideas of how to best set this up. Right now I have a report menu with about 8 command buttons. Some take them to a criteria form for that report, others straight to the report, and others to another menu with a whole other set of buttons for more reports.
I have looked at organizing the "categories" of reports that I have.
I see that I have Candidate reports and Hire reports. This is because this application is for people who apply for a job. Once the information is entered on the entry side, there are a number of things to report on.
One idea is to make a statistics report menu for all of the summary reports. These are counts of candidates under certain groups, like what office they applied to, what departmen, or what date they applied. Then these counts exist for hires as well, and what they were hired to, and what date they started.
I also have detail reports showing the people information as candidates or hires, grouped by these such factors.
If anyone can help me to organize the best method for making these reports available to the user, I would really appreciate it.
One thought would be a form with 2 combo boxes and a preview button.
I am thinking that this could work for the statistic report menu. My database is normalized, so I can't use their names in the combos. I would want to have 1 combo for choosing candidate or hire, as that report that they want. Then the next combo would be the factor to report them on. Office, department, application source, etc
I have summary report for candidates and for hires. parallel reports, but one for (ie) all candidates by the office that they applied to. Then I would have one for all hired candidates (were hired) by the office that they were hired to. Same with department, and many others.
If anyone can help me to either how best to do this process, whether my thought is a good way to go, or if there is a better set up that I should try. I am open to anything here!
I have recently split my database and added a password to the back end. I am now trying to re-link the tables as I have seen in other threads, but when I do this I am not prompted for the password I just get the message 'Not a valid password'
I must obviously be doing something wrong, can anyone help?
Firstly thank you for your help, this should be a simple one I hope, but is cracking my head on the wall. Have searched and searched and can't find an answer.
I have an Access Db that is not password protected, but is asking for a password. It opens on any other machine fine?
I think my version of Access is playing funny buggers with me, any suggestions?
I was trying to implement some security on this Db, which is why it happened I'm sure. I ran the security wizard, set-up two users and admin with passwords, I have the output file to "recreate" something too.
Issue is, I then copied this Db to another computer for use on there, it worked without a Password, so didn't need to worry about it, now I can't open any Db on my machine??
i have found a code that brings up a box when tab or clicking in to a box for editing as below:-
Dim strPassword As String If InputBox("Please enter the password:") <> strPassword Then SomeOtherControl.SetFocus TextBox1.Locked = True End If
its just that need to add a password as well, i have tried to put this in between the <> but this does not work. i would like a message to say incorrect password as well if possable.
The database has to be handled by a web service and/or a web appliction making the comma delimited option occupy more server time breaking down the string into usable user_ID's. But (and this is probably my actual problem) if i was to impliment my second idea, I'm not sure what I should make the tables primary key or the best way to relate it to the main user table.
My initial thought is to just have a, technicaly useless, ID be the primary key and impliment a one(User) to many(friends entries) relationship... but im a bit of an access n00b so thought i better come ask for some advice.
Firsty i am a novice to Databases so i only really know the basics, heres my problem.
I have a database at work that i need to password protect, but i want it so when people open it up, it gives them the option of viewing it in read only mode, but if they have the password then they can use it properly and edit things, is this possible? and if so is it easy??
Ok I want to do auto backup using the auto compact db, I think I got from here., anyways I want to copy it but the auto compact cant because of the DB password is there a way around this like have the password in the path of the db?
In my database I've two diferents forms but I want one of them to be accessed only for few users where they have to type username and passaword. Is anyone there could tell me how can I do that please? Thanks
I don't realy know how to explain this but a college of mine has done something to her Access settings, whenever she tries to open a database it asks her for a User login password.
The prompt is a box with
Name: Centre Manager Password:
If she types Centre Manager in the password box then it lets her in as normal. Everyone else can just access the databases without being prompted for a password.
A password to one of my MDB files has been changed for some reason and I need to get access to it. Does anyone know of a freeware program that I can get to gain access to it? Your help is appreciated.
I would like to set a database password for my back end so that ppl could not "exidentaly" open the wrong .mdb file. Then i want to send a database password from my front end to my back end so that users who use FE would login my BE automaticaly? Is this posible? If so, how?
One more question. Is it posible to based on a login name(form in FE) open a BE readonly or normaly?
I created a workgroup account with a password. I joined this work group and all has been well until my harddrive died. I have the work group and I have the password but I can't remember to user name. Is there anyway to open the work group to get the user name?
I'm creating a data access page that can be used over the internet to add information into the database. The database is password protected. The functionality currently is that when a user accesses the data access page, they need the database password in order to submit information. We don't have a small number of users and giving all these people the password to the database would comprimise the security of the system.
I am looking for a functionality such that the people that edit the database, either by the front end application or by opening the database directly to be password protected. But the data access page not to be.
Any ideas on how I can achieve this functionality?
i have a MS Access aplication that have a vba code with a password.

I have successfully created a user id & password prompt which works excellently.
The database i have created has three forms inwhich two departments access. I have an issue where one department is only allowed to view a search screen and the other department is allowed to enter in information and search. I also have a section for managers to login and run reports.
In my userid & password table i have created and field called Level which includes: Administrator, Manager, Bookings,User
Admin - Full Access Managers - Full Access - But not able to edit queries and tables Bookings - Order Form, Search Form User - Search Form
Here is the code i have used:
Login OK Button:-
Private Sub login_Click()
If txtPassword.Value = DLookup("Password", "tblAccess", "[UserId] = txtUser.Value") Then CheckFlag DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmUserLogon" Else MsgBox "INCORRECT PASSWORD! Please try again" End If
End Sub
Module1: Option Compare Database Public Flag As Integer '1: Reports Opener 2:Log 3:OpenUKSupplier
Function CheckFlag() Select Case Flag Case 1 DoCmd.OpenForm "frmReports Menu"
Case 2 DoCmd.OpenForm "frmbooking" Case 3 DoCmd.OpenForm "Frmsearch" Case Else 'Should never be here
End Select End Function
Where would i add the code to the module or to the event?
