Using BULK INSERT To Load A Text File To MS Access
Aug 2, 2006
Hi All
I hope someone in this forum can help me with this databse issue:
I want to load text file to .mdb MS access file.
I understand that BULK INSERT is possible only when using SQL Server database - not MS Access like I do.
Can someone advice what can be done ?
Can you think of an alternate solution, which is also effective (not inserting each record one by one) ?
BTW - I'm using ADO on visual studio 6 in order to access the database (not ADO.NET).
I have 12,000 cvs that i need to get into An access database so i can start to extract email info etc. They are stored in one folder All Cvs under each of their names edc.txt (i have converted them to .txt) i want to create one table with two fields name (taken from the cv filename and contents (taken fromthe contents of the .txt file). I am using Access 2007.
I have a text source file and inpul layout i.e. field names start and end positions in excel file. I want create a table in access from the text data using excel file layout.
Can you please help me out in this. I am a mainframe programer and recieved an request to work in access.
I'm about to connect my DB to word. So I made a form where the user has to choose what entry to export. The data is inserted in a word file in different bookmarks. But there is one special task to insert the rich text so in this case the html formatted text is displayed like this:
I would like to automate the current process of sending an e-mail with a PDF attachment that is unique to each recipient; it is their test results. I'm sending an e-mail one at a time (which was fine when the number of folks being tested was small, but now I'm up to approximately 200 e-mails and growing each year)
System Environment:
Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit) Office 2010 Professional
Access environment and Process:
1. A qry object/letter is built based on 4 tables (test results, result averages, a global employee list and location)
2. The Report has both static and dynamic text. Examples include: "Dear" [qry-Letter. F_name] and Address Information
a. =[qry-Letters.F_Name] & " " & [qry-Letters.L_Name] b. =[qry-Letters.Position] c. ="Dept " & Right([qry-Letters.Dept],3) & ", " & [qry-Letters.City]
3. The report also includes the employee's results, the session averages (testing is conducted at multiple locations each occurrence is a session) and companywide averages.
4. Report Process: Run the report, entering primary key Emp_ID, report is populated saved (overwritten with the next Emp_ID and printed as a saved PDF.
5. MS Outlook: create a new e-mail, text body is common to all e-mails e.g. "attached are your test results" the PDF is attached and the e-mail sent to the recipient (the e-mail address follows the corporate standard, =Trim([qry-Letters.F_Name] & "." & [qry-Letters.L_Name] & "@abc.com")
i have thousands of data records with hyperlinks that are correct. Each data record shows the actual link (google.com, foxnews.com, espn.com, etc.). However, i want to change all of the records to just say "link" instead of saying espn.com, etc. How can i do this automatically without having to manually right click, edit, and changing the text to display?
I have an Access application for which I would like to provide potential customers with a fully functional application but with a limit to the number of records that can be stored in the main file.
I would like to have a message displayed to say "The maximum number of records have been reached for this application."
Could you help with the VB code required to do this? The module will become active at the "On Open" property when the main Form is opened.
I have created a Word Doc which is a help file for the new users. I tried to paste it in a new form but it takes only a few lines whereas the Word Doc has five pages. Is there a way to embed/link/paste this help file to my Access DB? Grateful for help.
Hi All, I need to export an access table to text file automatically. It would be helpful if this could be done by some commands or a batch file etc..
I have 60 access tables. I need to export the data to one single text file (if not possible I dont have problem in exporting to 60 different text files).
This needs to be done daily. So I need a faster way. I cannot use any softwares since I dont have any budget for that. But If there is any source codes I could Look at it would be more helpful.
I am trying to export a text file from access. I know how to do it using the export wizard and it pretty much works with my VB code except 1 thing. I need the header column exported as well. There is a check box to include that in your export while using the wizard. When I save the specs and do it using the VB code everything works except it does not include the header row which I need. Is there a way to include this row without having to go through the wizard?
Here is my current code that works(except the header). DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim, "Amazon Spec", _ "Amazon SQL Export Query", "C:Documents and SettingspctesterMy DocumentsAmazonMorningside.txt"
I have a text file with comma separated values. What I want is a single access query to import this text file into an access table. I know this can be done through import text wizard in access - but what I need is a single query. I have done the same thing for transferring oracle data to an access table - but for text file to access, I am getting -7778 error.
This is the query I have written SELECT * into MY_ACCESS_TBL from [odbc;Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};Dbq=MY_TEXT_FILE_PATH;].[MY_TEXT_FILE.txt];
I have a text file that I am using VBA to read and print 2 pieces of data to another text file. The code works to a point, in some instances it does not appear to find the end of file but captures and writes all the data. Or, after printing 36 lines correctly, it then stops writing.
I have stepped through the code and it appears to be capturing the data up past this issue but for what ever reason it does not print it to my text file.
PHP Code:
Option Compare DatabaseOption Explicit Public Mode As String Public FUNDREF As String Public rst As String Function DAILYAUDITTRAIL() Close #1 Close #2 Open "C:UsersTEST IN.TXT" For Input As #1 Open "C:UsersTEST OUT.txt" For Output As # 2 Do While Not EOF(1) Line Input #1, rst If rst Like "KM56Aasdf*" Then FUNDFINDER End If Loop End FunctionFunction FUNDFINDER()
They are receiving e-mail with some data that they want to transfer to access database to track. The one think they can do is copy past, copy paste. That is a lot of data to copy and paste. The date looks like this format
Field1 Text1
Field2 Text2 (text2 can be more than 255 char)
Field3 Text3 (text3 can be more than 255 char)
Field4 Text4
Field1 Text1
Field2 Text2 (text2 can be more than 255 char)
Field3 Text3 (text3 can be more than 255 char)
Field4 Text4
and so on.. It can be 50 records
I am thinking they can copy this to the text file. Then the code form Access grabs the text file and imports to access table with format below.
Is there a way to add default text on a form when it loads via vba?
I have a form (frm_add_targets), which has 15 fields on it and I would like to add default text to these fields if the field should be null.
For example: one of my form fields is called: w_text1 and I would like to default the value of this field to the following: Significant amount of revenue at risk 1)<50k,2)up to .5mil,3)up to 3mil,4)up to 5 mil,5)>5 mil should it be empty on load,
I am trying to export a query from an Access 2007 database into a fixed width text file, to import into a statistical program. The query is a simple select query from one table, selecting 5 columns. I am using a specification to set the width of each of the fields (image attached). The problem is with the first field in the table which is a long integer field. I want to set it as a fixed width of 4 characters, but every time it exports it sets the width as 11 characters. I have tried exporting from the original table, changing the data type but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Laura
I need to create a command button to import a tab delimited text file into a table in Microsoft Access using VBA Code.
I have set up the button however I am unsure as to how I should approach it and what code i need. If anybody has any suggestions I would be very grateful.
I'm trying to import a text file with 273 fields into two tables. I've been able to do this with the code I found on an old thread and I'm now trying to accomplish everything with one step. The file I'm importing is tab delimited text file. With this current code I'm only able to populate the first record in the table and then I get error message. (Run-time error '3265') (Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the reqested name or ordinal).
Code:
Public Sub ImportTextFile() ' to use the ADODB.Recordset, be sure you have a reference set to ADO Dim rst As ADODb.Recordset Dim rst2 As ADODb.Recordset Dim strFile As String Dim strInput As String Dim varSplit As Variant Dim intCount As Integer
I have a form which i use for a user to select an excel file they want to import and then click a cmd button to import the file into a table which works fine, however i want to append a date into a date field from an unbound txtbx before the file is imported so it will look something like;
I would like to automate something presently done on a one-by-one basis. Here: a number of text files(containing data) are to be exported into an MS Excel file, with each text file to occupy a different worksheet. Presently, the idea is to use the Data/import external data/import data feature of MS Excel for importing the text files one-by-one into newly created worksheets(within the same workbook).
I would appreciate some advice on how to go about creating a useful MS Access application to achieve the above. I have checked the available Macros in MS Access, but I could not find one to suit my purpose. can anyone pls assist, on how I can get started?

I currently have a batch file that ftps a text file from a Red Hat Linux Server to my W2k C:. I would like to make another command in the batch file that imports this text file into an existing access table. I would like the text file to repopulate the table everytime it is imported. I do not want the data added on to the existing data in the table.
Ii have a database running on Access 10.0, I am using the insert hyperlink dialog box (access by Ctrl K) to allow users to insert a hyperlink to a file (could be any sort of file), into a text box.
The problem I have is most of the files are held many directories above where the database is (we have a BAD directory policy, 10's of folders within folders) and it gets a little painful to get the user to go up so many levels, due to the hyperlink dialog opening in the "current folder" view, ie where the db is located.
Simple quest, or so I thought. Can I change the default directory "Current Folder" that the dialog box starts in ?
I have already tried chdir"c:" but to no avail.......not that obvious then...
