Using Field ID To Access The Data In The Field.

Sep 5, 2005

I am new to Access, I know how to access the data within a field by using the field name as a variable. (Variable1 = (value(fieldname1)) or syntax similar to this. My question is, is this type of function available in Access and if so where is it in the text/manual. Or, could someone give me an example of this function.

Thank everyone for any help on this.

Forms :: Copy Value From Field In Subform To Field In Main Form During Data Entry

Jul 18, 2013

How can I get the value from a field in one table (in the sub form) to copy/insert into a field in another table (in the main form) when adding a new record?The main form and sub form are linked using parent/child linking, and the sub form is in a tab.I have table A (Visit Dates) in the main form which is used to record the date of a visit to a church. Table B (Quarters and Peals) is used to record an event that took place at that church during that visit. Note that not all visits in table A require a record to be created in table B - but half or more do.

In tables A and B I have a field called "QuarterOrPealID" and these are both primary keys, though the field in table B is set to 'no duplicates' and in table A it's set to 'duplicates allowed', as table A has its own auto number/pk. They are both linked in the relationships.

So, when I add a new record to table A using the main form, I might then need to click on the tab in the sub form to create a new record in table B, which has to be linked to the same record in table A. When the "QuarterOrPealID" auto number/pk is generated in the sub form (table B), I need that value to update to the "QuarterOrPealID" field of the main form (table A), so that when I'm viewing these records the form pulls all the information nicely together.

Modules & VBA :: Filter Subform Data - Only Show Records Where Field A Is Higher Value Than Field B

Oct 24, 2013

I want to filter my subform data, to only show records where field A is a higher value than field B.

Code:
Me.MySubform.Form.Filter = "A > B"
Me.MySubform.Form.FilterOn = True

This way it doesn't find field B.

Code:
Me.MySubform.Form.Filter = "A > " & MySubform.Form!B
Me.MySubform.Form.FilterOn = True

This way it seems to filter all record to the field B value of the first record.

Modules & VBA :: Mandatory Data Entry In Field Before Moving To Another Field

Aug 22, 2014

I have a form that users will use to add new records (customers).

There is a field named VAT_Registration_no

First of all i want some code to check for duplicates in that field only,before entering the next field.If the record exists i want to show a msgbox and set focus to the vat_registration_no field. Also I want the same thing to happen if the vat_registration_no field is empty.here is what i have tried:

Private Sub VAT_registration_no_AfterUpdate()
Dim btest As Boolean
If VAT_registration_no = "" Or IsNull(Me.VAT_registration_no) Then
MsgBox "Please enter a Vat Registration No.", vbOKOnly, "error"
Me.VAT_registration_no.SetFocus
Else
btest = True
End If
End Sub

and to all other fields:

Private Sub textfield_Enter()
If Not btest Then
Me.textfield.SetFocus
End If
End Sub

If I just press enter to go straight to the second field I dont get a msg. If I write something and delete it and press enter i get the msg but when I press ok the cursor goes to the next field. I want it to go to the vat_registration_no field again. And I also want this to happen even if dont write something and then delete it.

Queries :: Field Header In Query Based On Other Field Data

Jun 28, 2013

I have two tables that are joined - called A and B. A has two fields, "PLACE" and "RAND" and is joined to B via field "RAND". Other than "RAND", B has several fields named 01 TOTAL, 02 TOTAL, 03 TOTAL, etc...for about 60 fields.

The "PLACE" field in table A has data that is 01, 02, 03, ect.... How do I structure a query so that whatever "PLACE" is, I can match the XX TOTAL value? In other words, i need to have the query field header be somehow dependent on the value in "PLACE".

Is this even possible?

I am using Access 2010.Most of the time a tenant pays his exact rent. When that happens, I currently type in the payment (taken form the Rent field) and date of payment (current date) into a form. The date should not change.

I would like to place a checkbox into the form. If checked, the rent would be entered into the payment field and payment date (current date) would be entered automatically. Otherwise, I would just enter in the payment and date manually.

FIELDS
Rent

Payment
PaymentDate

Access Field Types Change When Relinking Data From Sql Server?

Jan 25, 2014

We have been using an Access (Access 2013) program where we link the program to dataviews created in sql server.

Recently we had to re-link the data views because a change had been made to them. When we relinked the data we noticed that the field type for the field used as the primary key changed from "Short Text" to "Long Text". The programmer who created the dataview from sql server said that nothing was done at that end that would have caused the change

I know how to prevent the problem from recurring. We are changing the sql server spec from VARCHAR(8000) to CHAR(20).

Importing Data From Excel To Memo Field In Access Is Truncated After 255 Characters

Nov 16, 2007

I haven't seen anyone run into this particular problem on this forum...

I'm importing data from an excel spreadsheet to an MS Access (2007) table. One of the fields in the table is a text memo field able to support more than 255 characters...

Issue:
The issue is that any cell in Excel that is greater than 255 characters is truncated when imported to MS Access even though the field is a memo field. There isn't any documentation on Microsoft's website about this and I don't see any way to work around it other than manually copying the data from excel to MS Access.

Anyone have any input on this matter?

Thanks in advance!

Problem Entering External Data From Excel Into Access Field Using Input Mask

Mar 5, 2008

Hi,

I'm new to this. I'm trying to enter data (it's actually Latitude and Longitude co-ordinates) from an existing Excel source into an Access database which has input masks of 00°00'00.00"L;0;0 (Latitude) and 000°00'00.00"L;0;0 (Longitude) in the respective fields. However I cannot get the information to import or display correctly. I did an "export data" of the respective table (hence fields) to Excel to try and get the correct entry format. An example of the Lat exported was 24°49'41.81"N and Long was 067°01'44.02"E (but with a very small ' in front but only visible in the data entry line in Excel, not in the actual spreadsheet table???)

However when I try to enter the data (even using the exact same little degree symbol, apostrophe, and quotation marks) it does not enter the access fields correctly. On closer scrutiny of the exported Excel format I note a small ' at the very beginning of the 24°49'41.81"N or 067°01'44.02"E string. But as I said previously only visible in the data entry line next to the formula button. Not on the spreadsheet cell.

However even when I "Paste Special" "values only" my new co-ordinates into the same entry location as one exported, it will still not import, or display correctly. If I go into the Access database directly there is a form where if I need to enter the new co-ordinates (using lat example above) I only have to enter 24 49 41 81 N (spaces between) and it will show correctly as 24°49'41.81"N

I'm getting desparate as I don't want to have to change all the details manually. Anyone know what my correct format from an Excel spreadsheet should be?

Apologies for lengthy story! Difficult to describe problem with degree symbols etc

Report Shows ID Of Field Rather Than Data In Field?

I am working on a report and have found a problem. I have a field called "region". The data is geographical and is basically stuff like "southeast", "mid-atlantic", "southwest", etc. I reference this field in the report but the report shows the ID field of the table where this data exists, rather than the data in the "region" field. So, instead of "southeast", it shows "3".
