I have two tables (I'll call table 1 and table two for simplicity) and an update query. I want to get some data from table one to table two (via an update query). But in table two there is a field that isn't in table one but i want to add a value to that field via the query.
My question is, can i manually put into the query what data to add to a field instead of/aswell as using data from other tables.
I have an update query built that checks to see if a date is entered for when a document is mailed as well as a date for when that document was received.
I'm trying to setup this query to check and ensure that if multiple documents (Form8) were mailed that each one was marked as having a received date before the Update query add's a "Graduated" mark to the student. Screenshots are attached.
Anyone have any idea on how I can set this up?
Basically the tblFormEight can have multiple entries assocaited with each EnrollmentID (aka Student enrolled in a class) which represents multiple Form's set out in the mail. I don't want this Update query to run unless all entries for each EnrollmentID have Received Dates.
What I want to do is from several records find the Max() date and update that one record with my stuff. However, I get an error message cannot use aggregate in update query or something to do that effect. Is there a way to get around this?
Hello, i was wondering if you could help. I want to run an update query, taht updates prices in a table. But i would like to be able to choose the criteria when the query runs, for example a message box appears, that will allow me to enter a certain amount for the prices to change by. Could someone guide me on how to do this? thankyou, its much appreciated
hi all, I'm newbie here. please forgive me if I make mistake / wrong "room"
here what I need. I want to make update query in access 2000/2003. let say I want to update field "COST" to "0", which have condition field "ID" is 070.... (070. and something). the matter is type of field ID is numeric not string, so I can't use LIKE function. any suggest what I can do without change data type for field "ID" for permanent (I mean, if we can change data type for temporary with code, and turn it back with code too, that's no problem). I don't care, either use macro or update query (if update query can't do this task). thanks before
Was wondering if there is a way without building individual update queries, to update info in one field that has multiple criteria ?
Basically I need to change/update daily multiple ID numbers to new ID numbers, long story on why this needs to be done but for now I need to do it this way.
Example: 12345 update to ABCDE, 6789 update to FGHI, etc. These ID's are all within the same field in the table.
It works fine running each ID one at a time but was wondering if it is possible to do all these updates within one query or code ?
Table: TaskT Fields include; Description, Action, DueDate, Priority, Precinct, Recurring and Employee. Query: TaskQ Form: TaskF and TasklistF
The forms are fed by the TaskQ query.I have sort and filter on all fields except date field which i would like to have 3 buttons which will dynamically update the criteria in the TaskQ DueDate field. Is that possible or the way to do it??
The buttons would include 'Due today' 'Overdue' 'Next 7 days' and they update the criteria in the TaskQ query and hence filter with the following;
I have a form that run a query to select all the students taught by a given faculty member. Once the records are loaded, the faculty enters attendance data, selects a date from a combo box and hits a save button.I change my relationship and now need to be able to store the key for the field in the combobox and not the text.
How do I set the field, table and criteria in the update query to do this. The UD query uses the FacultyStudents query as its record source. Currently the FacultyStudents querry does not have the Key or the date fields since the date is selected by the faculty once their records are loaded. As I see it there is now way to make a join, so I think I either need VBA or SQL, which I am not very good (really bad) at wriitng. Can the necessary Sql be written in the query design view?
I need to update the periodtype field in my table depending on different values in the field Formtype- I am looking to do this without having to use VBA. I have the following fields in a table - I want to update the value of the field Period_type as follows -
When Formtype is 10-Q, update Periodtype to "Quarterly"
When Formtype is 10-K, update Periodtype to "Annual"
The current value of Periodtype for both formtypes is "Semiannual"
I'm trying to update a record in a table, from a query that is run as part of an event from a command button on a form.
I have a table called 'Assets', a table called 'Disposals', and a form called 'Disposal Entry'. I would like the user to select an Asset ID from a combobox on the form, then when the button is clicked it adds a record to the 'Disposals' table, and updates the Status for that specific Asset in the 'Assets' table to "Disposed".
It adds to the Disposal table fine, but I can't get it to update the Asset table.
My query looks like: Field: Status Asset ID Table: Assets Assets Update To: "Disposed" Criteria: [Forms]![Disposals Entry]![Asset ID]
I've checked the spelling and everything looks ok.
The [Asset ID] control on the form is bound to the Assets table. If I edit the control and clear out what is in Control Source, then it updates the table and works fine.
However, I want to keep it bound as I have a subform on my home page showing the latest disposals.
How I can get the query to use the Asset ID on the form as the Criteria?
I have 2 tables that must be involved in this query. Both have the same fields; one is a temporary table created from an Excel import which will be deleted later, the other is the permanent table.
tblStoreProducts is the permanent table. It has a 2-field Unique index; there can only be 1 of any ProductKey for a StoreKey (there can be multiple ProductKeys within a StoreKey, and multiple StoreKeys for each product, but there can only be 1 entry for each unique combination of ProductKey/StoreKey).
tblImportToStoreProducts is the temporary table. It holds all of the ProductKeys for one StoreKey.
My query needs to identify any ProductKey in the tblStoreProducts that does not exist in the tblImportToStoreProducts for that StoreKey, and then it must set the MaxUnits field to 0.
Basically, the temporary table is this years' inventory for a particular store. If a product was in that store last year but it isn't there this year, the quantity must be set to 0 because the ultimate aim is reporting hazardous materials.
I have a one-to-many query with two tables. I'm using the query as a record source for a subform.
The subform displays the correct data I'm after however I can't update any fields on the it due to the underlying query having a one to many relationship. I understand that and thats fine.
Problem is I need users to be able to update one field on this subform as required. Is there a way to allow this while keeping the underlying query the same?
I have an update query for tGLCashAccount where it adds a value from another table with the BeginningBalance to arrive at CurrentBalance.
Here's what it looks like in design view:
Field: CurrentBalance Table: tGLCashAcct Update to: [tMakeNewCashBal].[TotalPrice]+[tGLCashAcct].[BeginningBalance]
Here is SQL code: UPDATE tGLCashAcct, tMakeNewCashBal SET tGLCashAcct.CurrentBalance = [tMakeNewCashBal].[TotalPrice]+[tGLCashAcct].[BeginningBalance] WHERE (((tGLCashAcct.GLCashAcctID)="102"));
I get the error: data type mismatch in criteria expression when I run it.
Access2007- Building a query to handle future input...
I run an update query that does what it is supposed to do and gives the proper values.
THEN I add a one more field to the source with the builder using + that has no data in it yet, the query fails and gives blanks, even though one of the fields in the source has data in it.
I would think that the "no data" field would be considered 0.00 value and be added together to the field that has values giving at least the value of the field with values as a result of the query.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change so that the no value and the value would be combined? I am using the builder to combine the values in the query.
I have a subform with two fields whose record source is a Query ("subquery")
Code in the query is as follows:
"SELECT Sum(capital) AS cq1 FROM capital_act WHERE (((capital_act.month)='jan' Or (capital_act.month)='feb' Or (capital_act.month)='mar') And ((capital_act.projectid)=forms!frmplan!projectid)) ;"
This query updates the field cq1 in my subform. I want to add 3 other fields for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. For instance the second quarter field cq2 field would have the capital_act.month as 'apr' or 'may' or 'jun' and so on...
cq1 value gets updated fine. I dont know how to add the fields cq2, cq3, and cq4 on the same subform whose record source would be the same query ("subquery").
I added a second SQL statement in the same query ("subquery") for cq2 but access does not let me add it.
Can somone point me in the right direction please?
I am trying to update several fields all at once in one single query. Also, I can only use the Design View (No SQL)
The weirdest thing keeps happening though: The more fields I enter to get updated, the less rows get updated.
For example,
When I have only one field that gets updated and I click "run" the window pops up saying I'm about to update 9 rows. It asks me if I'm sure I want to update those records so I say "no".....
Then, I add in another field and click "run" and the window pops up daying I'm about to update 8 rows. When it asks me if I'm sure I want to update those records, again I say "no"......
Then, I add in another field and this time it says 7 rows..... and the trend goes on and on until it says I'm going to update 0 rows.
I have about 15 fields I need to update all at once. I don't get why its not letting me update them simultaneously.
We have a report that is generated monthly to management on Excel. We Export the data from an Access query to Excel and at that time the user has to update the Month Reported and Year Reported fields on each record within that query.
Can I set up something to where the user can click a button or something and Access do all of this automatically?
Example: May 2005 was just sent out and we exported the data from the query to Excel and went back into the query and chose update query and had Access fill in May (in the month reported field) and 2005 (in the year reported field) on all of the records.
I am using a update query to update a table from another table. This query however will works only if I set the allowzerolength to yes in the table design otherwise validation error message will appear. This means that I cannot use the "Is Null " anymore because this empty space " " can appear. Is there any a way i can filter out those empty fields in the query design then? Thank you for your help.

I'm mid build on a commitments tracking (pseudo Purchase Order system) project, but seem to have run into an issue with a loop I'm building to allow users to edit commitments. The idea is that an edit form is launched, values amended and the submit button is clicked. A VB subroutine then validates the entries to ensure that the mandatory entries are included. It then writes a copy of the original values to the Archive table, before attempting to update the existing commitment with the new values..
This is working perfectly, apart from the fact that 3 fields that are "updated" are being updated to a blank value..
Code: Private Sub CommitSubmit_Click() Dim SQLStr, LastID, DOwner, DHeading As String Dim ErrState, Dtype, DProperty, DTCA, DITD, DSD, DED, DSP, DRetention, DRA, DRPD, DSupplier, DDOW, DStatus, DUser, DShD As String Dim Authcheck, Complete, ErrMsg As Boolean Dim QDF1, QDF2 As QueryDef
I'm trying to create a single, Update Query in Access 2007 that does all of these 3 things:
Update (skipping zero-length values) Append Automatically handle missing Fields without showing any "Enter Parameter Value" prompts.
I've managed to accomplish the 1st & 2nd items on my own, but I'm stumped on the 3rd. In essence, what I'm looking for is a way of telling Access to automatically use a zero-length/null value for any missing Field(s) the Query encounters, so long as it does not involve manually modifying the Table beforehand. Automation is key. And that's where you guys come in.
Attached, is a diagram of the desired results applied to a set of sample Tables. And here's the SQL code for the Update Query adjusted to work with those sample Tables:
Code: UPDATE Table_1 RIGHT JOIN Table_2 ON Table_1.ID = Table_2.ID SET Table_1.ID = NZ([Table_2].[ID],[Table_1].[ID]), Table_1.Company = NZ([Table_2].[Company],[Table_1].[Company]), Table_1.Address = NZ([Table_2].[Address],[Table_1].[Address]), Table_1.Phone = NZ([Table_2].[Phone],[Table_1].[Phone]);
I have got a query that updates details from one table2 to table1, "Reference" is the primary key and this is what the query uses to determine which need updating.
It all works great but if table2 contains a record in "Reference" that is not in table1 i just want it to ignore it, currently it just seeems to add them.
I'm running an update query that's based on a select query (that runs some calculations). The update query is updating ALL the rows that should be updated with the information in the select query with data from the final row in the select query, and not on a per ID basis as I think I have it set-up to do. The data looks correct in the update query, but again it's not coming out right.
I have a invoice system I have created in Access and it did used to work perfectly and then maybe an update Who knows stopped the system working.
I have an customer order screen that has customer details and then a subform within the same form this takes a total of items & costs for this order and then it entered it into the customers table from the order_Details table using me.Order_total = Order_Total.
I know this is bad design but I store it because once the order is places I need the total to be static because the invoice has been sent and so if someone changes the order then the total owed doesn't change.
I then have a reconcile form which is on a datasheet form straight from the tab;e so it is editable which has a checkbox that then once ticked copies the total from the Order_Total in the table to the reconciled field in the same table and then I use a report to show who owes me still.
So I have made a Select query from the Orders table & Order_Details table and used a Group by Order number (Which is the link between the 2 tables) this shows correctly but now not editable because of the rules So I am trying to add an editable checkbox on the same form.
I tried to use a dlookup makes all of the boxes either ticked or not. I've been looking at Recordsets but I'm unsure if this is what I need or not really
So really I just need to see if I should be putting the Total from the Subform into the mainform and then entering it into the table (Like previously) using a calculated unbound field and then using the Afterupdate event to insert the data into the table. but for some reason it just wont work.
I can get the OnClick to work but then as soon as i go to the next record for some reason it then resorts to 0.00 but then the table shows correctly which ever record the form is working on.
Or should I be using the new query based idea to create the reconcile form and if this is the best way I just don't now where to start on how to get a multiple table query that I can then add a reconciled checkbox which then copies the Order_Total from the table to the Paymet_Recieved field.
