View RepliesI have a macro that imports a table from a network drive. I have hard coded in the path. However, each year file location changes. Is there a way in a Macro to adjust the code based on some other parameter?
Under the "TransferDatabase" action, for the "Database Name", I hard coded:
y:sidewalks2006swk_master.mdb
However, I want the 2006 to automatically come from some other location. Here’s what I tried to no avail (where I wanted the dlookup to return 2006):
y:sidewalks(DLookUp("[year]","[tblYear]","[Item]='year'"))swk_master.mdb
Thanks,

I need to import 15 csv files into access every month. I have location of all those files listed in a table in the same access DB but i'm not sure how to incorporate them in a macro I have written to import one of those files:
Function Macro_TransferCsvFileTo_RatesTradeData()
On Error GoTo Macro_TransferCsvFileTo_RatesData_Err
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, "Import_Spec_tbl_RatesData", "tbl_RatesData", "c:Documents and SettingsaggauraDesktopWIPXMLDB_JOH_FI_2011123 0.csv", True, ""
[Code] ....
where c:Documents and SettingsaggauraDesktopWIPXMLDB_JOH_FI_2011123 0.csv is the file name I want to be replaced by each of the file listed by me in the other access table.
I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference).
Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?
I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.
i have a database in access 2003 when i open it with access 2003 it shows data in table but when i open same table in access 2007 it shows only header rows , no data
how can i see this data into access 2007 or excel 2007.i want to link these table data with excel 2007 or access 2007 but with above problem i can't do it
I am trying to complete a macro that starts with importing of a text file. However, when I go to complete the steps in the macro, I do not see the specs for the import file that i created. There is a dropdown with a few specs for me to choose from in the box titled "Specification Name" when I am completing the action titled ImportExport Text. However, none of those specs are the right ones.
When I go to "Saved Imports" I can plainly see the import that I am interested in. So is a Saved Import different than a spec? If so, what steps do I need to do to create the spec?
Ok,
I have a table that has new data added into it through forms, and i want the data to be sorted when a new record is added.
The person that the database is for is new to Access and therefore is not 100% competant at it.
I wanted to add a button onto the forms that would run a macro that would sort the data. Is there a macro in Access that can do this?
Cheers,
Slifer
I am creating a ImportExportData macro that will link to my tables in the BE
However the BE has a password. I was told this would require coding.
I have even tried to 'convert macro to VB' and i get this:
Code:
DoCmd.TransferDatabase acLink, "Microsoft Access", "c: est.accdb", acTable, "Table1", "Table1", False
I then tried to enter the password in the last segment (StoreLogin) ie:
Code:
DoCmd.TransferDatabase acLink, "Microsoft Access", "c: est.accdb", acTable, "Table1", "Table1", False, "PASSWORD"
but that didn't work either, i got a "An expresiions you entered is the wrong data type for one of the arguments"...
Hi,
I would like to link to an external data source (table) from MS Access 2003. I attempt to use the 'Import' feature to do this, and select 'ODBC Connection'. I am trying to connect to an application called 'Action Remedy'. I make the connection fine, but when Access attempts to import the table, it does not like one of the Action Remedy field names, and the Import aborts. The name is something like "Call Status-History.Closed.Time". Obviously, Access does not like this field name. And the chances of getting it changed (on the A/R backend are slim to none). Thus, my question: Is there away around this ?
Thanks !
Hello guyz,
With the help of 'Import External Data' wizard, my import did not happen. My datatypes and Col. Headers in excel are matching for what I have in access table. Alternatively, I selected to import the data into new table and all of the data got imported. My question, since I already have some data in table I want data to be imported, how can I do about bringing all the data from new table I created during import to the existing table. Please suggest. Thanks in advance.
Im familiar with Ms Access, but have never used VBA or Scripts. I have 37 Excel files with the same data and would like to import into one file. Data will be received on a monthly basis into the same directory and I would like to automatically upload the data into the same file in Access.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi there,
I'm pretty new to Access so I hope this question is not to simple/stupid ;)
Ok, I have an Excel Worksheet that I want to import into an Access Table. The column headers are identical! The only problem is:
- the Access table looks up a couple of the columns from other Access tables. When I try to import the Excel data, Access does (properly) report an error.
- Error: the records from the Excel file were added to the Access table but not all values were imported (no values were imported into the lookup columns...)
Any idea how I should procede so that I can import my data into Access?
Thanks!
Steve
I want to import email data into my access table. The email format is always same and the fields in the email match with the fileds in my table.

Hello,
I have some data in excel which I am importing it into MS Access 2002. Each excel file (one worksheet per file) is imported into separate tables.
I want to combine all my imported tables into one table. Is that possible, if yes then how and if no then what can be done to get single table after impoting data from various excel files.
Cheers,

I have generated two queries called "qry_GetWellName_GetAPI" and "qry_GetWellProduction" that extracts all the data I need from a csv to make two tables.
My issue is that I can not gather all the production data into a query formatted properly for a make table query that contains production history by month / api number.
Ideally the data would be placed in a table called tblProductionHistory with the following unique table index --> [api_fk] [data date]. The api_fk would link to the table that was created by extracting well names using qry_GetWellName_GetAPI.
tblProductionHistory field structure I am trying to achieve:
[api_fk]--[data date]--[oil rate]--[gas rate]--[water rate]--[days produced]--[cumulative oil]--[cumulative gas]
Currently the qry_GetWellProduction shows each well name and the year it had production as a separate record from the month names and the month's production values. I need to consolidate the data so each record can be matched to the unique table index.
Is there a sub query I need to use to manufacture a data date for each month that includes the year and last day of that month for that year? Also would I need a separate sub query to match each month's production to the api number?
I have code written which imports excel data to a access table but after the first import it fails due to duplicates, how can i tell it to ignore duplicates in the table and only copy new records?
code is below.
Code:
Function SyncEmployes()
Dim lngColumn As Long
Dim xlx As Object, xlw As Object, xls As Object, xlc As Object
[Code].....
I want a user to click a button, have the file open dialog open, they select a spreadsheet, and then it imports into a table. The problem is the filename can be different every time. The table name will remain constant.
Here is the OnClick:
Code:
Private Sub Command8_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_ImportSpreadsheet_Click
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel2Xml, "Table1", "T_Staff.xls", "Yes"
Exit_ImportSpreadsheet_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_ImportSpreadsheet_Click:
Resume Exit_ImportSpreadsheet_Click
End Sub
I have an excel table called Parameter with a column called "Test" -- The column contains integer numbers only. So all the numbers in the column are like 5,10,15,20 etc..I have an access macro which imports the entire excel table into a access table called dbo_Parameters
I have created an access macro to run "Saved Import" for 'dbo_Parameters"..After uploading, all the data in the column Test is formatted to mm/ dd/ yyyy. The Field Size is Integer, but the format is view format is converted to a Date..I have to change the properties of the column to "General Number" and get rid of the date format.how to change the import format!
a) The format of the column in Excel - It is number
b) The import procedure and saved import. I am unable to change the format of the import during upload. I make sure that the import format column is Integer
I have been trying to import an excel sheet (a specific excel sheet in the workbook) using this method but I get an error:
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, "Customer", "C:Download.xlsx", True, "CustomerFormatted"
where "CustomerFormatted" is the sheet I am trying to import in to the "Customer" table.
The error I get is Run Time Error 3011, The MS Access engine could not find the object "CustomerFormatted" make sure its name is spelled correctly ....
Is there any other way I can import an excel sheet in to an access table?
I used to import excel data into access successfully, many times but now I have to import excel data into an existing Access table with foreign key fields, which makes me problems.
Its just doesn't work...and Im sure the forien key fields are the prob cause, the other fields are going well ...
I have a simple calculated field (As "Ratio") that is readable in Access 2010 query, but crashes in Excel upon importing/running the query in an .xlsx table.
ERROR MESSAGE in EXCEL: "The query did not run, or the database table could not be opened...check database server..contact your database administrator.."
I am simply taking the cost amounts of each project record (shown as "Record Cost") and dividing it by the "Total Cost" of that project to render "Ratio".
The Total Cost is retrieved from another table.
Testing scenarios:
If we exclude Ratio, the whole query import just fine.
If we filter the query to one project (i.e. "Project A") the ratio field imports fine.
However, the whole unfiltered query does not with the ratio!
Other testing scenarios:
If we use a constant for the denominator AS "1" in Ratio (i.e. recordcost/1) the whole unfiltered query and ratio field imports fine.
If we use a constant for the numerator AS "1" in Ratio (i.e. 1/totalcost) the whole unfiltered query upon import crashes in Excel.
This is a mock example of the dataset, the actual query has 50K+ records:
Project Service Date Record Cost Total Cost Ratio
A Welding 1/1/2012 $100 $120 83%
A Plumbing 2/1/2012 $20 $120 17%
B Welding 1/1/2012 $50 $75 67%
B Plumbing 2/1/2012 $25 $75 33%
C Welding 1/1/2012 $40 $61 66%
C Plumbing 2/1/2012 $21 $61 34%
I am trying to write a more complex macro that will start another macro at a preset time, however I am getting stopped at the first hurdle - getting a macro to run another macro.
Here is the code i am using at the moment, all I want to do currently is click the first button, then get the second macro to execute. But no luck, getting error 2157 "cannot find the procedure"
Code:

Application.Run "teststart1"
' Application.OnTime TimeValue("19:55:00"), "teststart1"

Hi,
Task: to extract data from table 1 of a database (tied to form 1) to create a record in another table 2 of the same database (tied to form 2).
Besides, I need to make it simple to use for an end user.
On the form 2 I have a command button that activates macro. Macro makes a query to run and extract data from table 1 and append a table 2.
Now I want the user to see the record on the screen (form 2) that has just been created. For that purpose I add "go to last record" step in the macro.
Problem: that doesn't work. :) For some reason it brings back same record from the middle of the table which is not the last. And what is even more interesting is that it doesn't tie to the record ID on the bottom of the screen (access generated).
Challenge: the record ID field in the table 2 is a primary key auto-numbered field (i know this is not perfect but I am not the one who created the database) and some records have been deleted over time. Might that be connected to that or that is something else?
Thank you!!
I have recently made a database and through MS Development Tools have been able to bundle it with Access Runtime. We are using MSDE as a backend and when I install the 'package' created by MS Project on another computer it says that it cannot find the SQL Server database.
This will mean (i believe) I will have to write a macro to reference the external SQL database (MSDE)?
If anyone has knowledge of this or/ and can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
Phil
