i have values in two unbound textboxes and now i would like to assign the sum to a bound textbox. Also need AfterUpdate event too.

hey all i was wondering, can a unbound text box be a bound textbox. I have just noticed that my unbound text box doesnt not save in the field in my table, that is because it is unboune right? but i need it to save to my table, and i guees the only way to do that is to save in in the save button right? thanks

There is no entry in the unbound textbox as values come into automatically after entering some information in the subform. My question is how to i pass values from unbound textbox to bound textbox every time when the value change in unbound textbox i need to change the value in the bound textbox. When the form load there is already value in the bound textbox which i want to override based on the values from the unbound textbox.

I know that it isnt advised to store the concatenated value but in this case, I have a memo field which is the description of a particular system component.
i have Unbound Combo Boxes for descriptive elements such as COLOUR, SIZE, CONNECTIVITY, MAKE.
ALL of these i would to store in a field in my table and called Description and separate them by colons or the actual words which describe the category.

When a user selects a name from a combo box then 11 textboxes are populated with personal information.
What I am looking for is when the user edits the persons information (i.e. changes the persons phone number to a different number), how do I update the table with this information?
Is there a way to only update fields that have changed? or do I have to save all textboxes?
I have read about an "Update Query" and a SQL Update, but I did not think the two applied. I am sure that I am wrong, lol.
I tried the "Docmd.Runcommand acCmdSave (in the OnClick event cmd button) but it did not make any changes to the table.

There are hyperlinks throughout the database as well as a few lines of code that reference network locations that could change 1-2 years down the line. What I need to do is build a "housekeeping" form that is password protected where users can edit those hyperlinks via text-boxes. My problem is I'm not sure where to store the the data from the text-boxes to make it persistent. Making a table for the hyperlinks seems to be the wrong approach but I could be wrong.
Example:

How to update unbound textbox on main form from unbound textbox in subform afterupdate.
that is when amount paid is updated it automatically updates total paid, balance etc.
I want to know a way of populating unbound textboxes with data from a table without using the easy assigning data in the property of the box. I want it to be all done with code, which to me isnt a huge deal but I've yet to find answers on the web pertaining to this issue.
for example:
Say i was searching a primary key in one box and based on what ever is typed in i'd like it to populate the rest of the textboxes.

I have a form with a subform in it. The main form has a combobox, called vendor. The subform shows all software.
When i select a vendor, i want only the software for that vendor to show in the subform.
What I am trying to do is set up the link child fields and link master fields so that this works. However, i am getting an error saying, 'Can't build a link between unbound forms'.
I have checked to make sure that relationships exist between the vendors and Software tables but the problems persist.
What should i do here???

My current database (built with a lot of help and sample code form this site..thankyou to all for their advice) tracks the escalations we receive into the business but as we have used it more and more I have started experiencing a massive performance issue.
I basically have a main table that captures the basic details, reference, product, escalation source, escalation reason etc, and these are captured from combo box selections (so only capturing the id numebr of the row in the combo box)
My main problem seems to be a table I have that we have linked, via the unique escalationID, that we cna add notes for each escalation.
So for instance a particular escalations can 1 or 50 notes (or more) depending on the work involved to resolve.
This table now has thousands of entries and is about 10Mb on it;s own.
It seems that when I open my bound forms the query is having to scan not only the main table, but also all of the notes in the journal table.
My question is,
Would I be better to -
1 - Use unbound forms and pull the data via a recordset call or
2 - could I use a query that captures everything for only the open escalations and then have my main form query that query or
3 - have the form load but do not link the journal table and have the form pull the data in seperately ?
Hope that makes sense and appreciate any help on this one.

Hi all,i am running a query that (as part of it) returns a total time.. using a formula i found on this site. this formula uses a start and end time and works wonders. works!IIf([StartTime]<[EndTime],DateDiff("n",[StartTime],[EndTime]),1440-DateDiff("n",[EndTime],[StartTime]))/60my problem however is an option that i need my users to have to enter a time not based on a start end time, but a "OtherTime" if u will. (ie they have 4 hours instead of writeing 1:00 - 5:00) already changed this from default value null to 0... View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of a problem - I built quite a complex db that works great and I'm comfortable with code and access. But, I've been working with ASP for a while now and I think it has made me a bit fogetful re: Access.
If someone can point me in the right direction conceptually it would be appreciated. My system is primarily built around scheduling and I have created tables and web forms to interact with my current access database to allow our recources to check and confirm their daily schedules online.
My problem is on the Access side. I need to build a dashboard using a form that queries the table that holds our resources status information and will display whether or not they've logged in and confirmed their schedule. As well, I need controls on this form to allow me to update their individual schedules if it has been changed. Most of this is no problem, the big problem I'm having is the display of information and form interaction... Can I use a continuous form for this?
When I try to use unbound controls such as images - hiding/unhiding images depending on a specific records value (for let's say a traffic light that shows whether a resource has confirmed their schedule) - it seems that I can't control images, checkboxes, etc. for individual records on the continous form with code as all these unbound controls defualt to the value of the first record.

I have 2 fields in an MS Access form "BTKForm" sending and picking up data form a bank terminal.
Code is executed by clicking a Button on the form.
Field 1, "IssuerID", is an Unbound field picking up a code from the bank terminal. It's numbers between 0 and 100, representing the Card provider.
Field 2 - "IsID", is a value field linked to a table.
I want to take care of (save) (copy) "IssuerID" in to "IsID".

I need to have 2 textboxe son my form that are directly linked to data in a DB so that the user can type values in directly.
Unfortunately, the data for these 2 textboxes is completely separate from the main form's recordsource.
Is it possible to do this using an expression? I've tried but it only retrieves the data rather than allows you to update it.
If not, then will I have to do this through VBA code?
I have a form with 7 types of weights (7 textbox rows) showing 7 weights in kgs and the others in lbs.When the user update any weight-kgs textbox, the opposite weight-lbs textbox will be updated automatically, and viceversa.Now, I'd like a fast way to code this action without writing the After Update_event for every textbox (they're 14).I have already setup textbox tags differently with "WeightKGS" and "WeightLBS", thinking about using "for each ... next" statement, but I have some problems to resolve what I want.

I'd like to call a function when a bound textbox is updated and for some reasons it doesn't seem to work. It works when the textbox is unbound (or maybe I missed something)
Here is a very simplified version of the form:

MyFunction() is just a MsgBox for now and I'd like it to appear when the textbox in the main form is updated (i.e. when the text in the subform is updated). I set .AfterUpdate= "=MyFunction()" and .OnChange="=MyFunction()" but nothing happens.

If textbox1.value equals texbox2.value the textbox2.value back ground colour is green. If they are not equal textbox2.value goes red. Itried with using conditional formatting, but it doesn't work all the time as the form is not updating when it is opened.

I got one months table containing a reporting_month ,timeperiod and an Index column ID with data type Autonumber.Basically I want to search through the table whenever the User types in a new reporting month or timeperiod over the dialogue.Now I want to realize the following options:
1. The user types in a new reporting month, when a record in the months table exists with a timeperiod and a blank reporting month field, it should be assigned there. For example the User types in reporting month = 032014 it should be assigned to the Time_Period Value = 042014-032015
2. Vice versa, the user types in a time period. This value shuold be assigned to the blank field beneath the existing reporting month.
What is the best solution to this problem? How can I automatically assign a numerical value to a field based on the information currently contained as test in another field? For example, if I have a field that ranks a film as “Poor, Fair, Good, Great, Superior”, how can I have a set value appear for statistical purposes that assigns a number to each of these values (Something like: If rating of current record = “Poor”, then ranking = “1”; If rating of current record = “Fair”, then ranking = “2”; If rating of current record = “good”, then ranking = “3”, etc. I also want to be able to have the values recalculate if someone changes their original opinion.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a report that returns timesheet info on employees. The group-by is on the employee, and the detail records are projects billed-to, including how much time billed to each project by that employee.
Parts of the detail line are accomplished by dlookups, and I was hoping to sum() these values on each employee/group, in the employee footer area.
Per the image, the circles show where I hope to show the sum'd value from text boxes indicated by the arrows...
In the group footer on employee I've set text boxes to:

...basically taking the dlookup accomplished in the detail line and trying to sum() it... No luck.

...using the name of the control where the dlookup is accomplished prompts me to declare the value of the "RADefaultHours" - indicating the report text box control doesn't know what I'm talking about...

...I saw some posts regarding setting "running sum over group" - and I tried that on the text box in the footer where the sum() is being attempted, but no luck.
Can I do this this way? Perhaps I need to set some other variable that is more agreeable than a 'textbox with a dlookup' to do the sum when grouping?
I have a form that calls up an employee that also lists their hire date. I have an unbound text box that calculates the years of service by DateDiff(). It works for the first record but sticks for all the subsequent records. I've tried an afterUpdate or Change on the bound Hire_Date text box that is Me.txtYearsOfService = DateDiff("yyyy",Me.Hire_Date,Now) but it still sticks to the first record.
I'm sure this is basic but can't see the obvious. Please relieve the pain.
