I have a database with existing tables.
I now want to add a whole bunch of records into my access tables.
A lot of the data is repeated, and lends itself to my doing it in excel with it's better copy and paste abilities, and it's ability to easily increment alphanumeric fields.
I can't seem to succeed in append importing to the bottom of my access table from my excel spreadsheet. All columns are the same.
Can this be done, and if so how please?
I'm on XP Pro with Office 2003 Pro.
I'm also very much a newbie in Access.
Is the record is already existing in access, but a few fields are blank, is there any way to import an excel file that just updates those blank fields for the specific record?
For example,
I have an excel file that includes files that are ready to ship out. My access database already has those file names, but does not have the shipping box number. Is there any way to import the excel file into my database, have it find those specific file names and update the shipping box number field? The excel file won't be adding any new records, just appending existing records.
I was importing the large array of accounting data into Access from Excel through File - Get External Data - Import. Several columns contained tangible accounting data (e.g. registration numbers) that had different formats like "23423 34", "32-3545" and in some cases even contained letter constants. Therefore, I have assigned TEXT type to this column while importing and was sure that all values are going to be stored as text. However, what has happened is: 18307769 turned into 1.83078e+007! this means tangible accounting data that was used as a key field for further linking turned into bull&&$%! :-(
I know this problem is very simple, so please, can you give me a hint as to how do I solve it in the future.
I've been trying to load data from multiple excel worksheets in multiple workbooks into one table in Access. The first one loads fine, but after that I get errors and can't load anything else. All of the sheets are in the same format, so that shouldn't be the problem. Every solution I've tried has been a bust. All I want is to take all of my data and put it into one big database. Any suggestions?
Function SyncSuppliers() On Error GoTo errhandle Filename = DLookup("SupplierPath", "Setup", "SetupActive = True") If Filename = "" Then Exit Function End If Set xlapp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
[code]....
The 5th row is where the problem is abbot and co will import n stop missing out the brackets (I need all the data). same for the last row A-BELCO LTD will import (HADAR LIGHTING) does not.
I'm looking to import huge excel sheets in access, but normalization process in Access has forced me to divide all the columns in Excel to about 12 tables in MS Access.
How how could I import data from excel sheet columns to 12 different tables?
I'd like to be able to filter through a .dat file like that (which is pretty much just like a .txt file as far as I can tell) and have that data appended into a table by way of a command button.
The annoying thing is that the data would have to be pulled out of the .dat file by position into columns like this:
Example line:
Code: 09 19192 00010212b1 5010570223 19192 = Ticket (Will be 5 digits long) 0001 = Quantity (Should be 4 digits long) 0212b1 - Location (Will be 6 characters long) 5010570223 = Article (Will be 10 characters long (not numbers))
by the way, let's say the .dat file will be in folder C:CENTURYWTERM.
Does anybody know how to go about running a query or macro in Access to import specific fields from all worksheets contained in an excel workbook?
Say I have ExcelFile.xls, and it has worksheets with varying names. I want to pull fields B12, B16, B20, B24, B28 from each worksheet and create a new record in a table (one new record for each worksheet). Is there an easy way to do this other than pulling the data into a Crystal Reports pivot table or some such?
Curious to know if anyone had some suggestions on how to create a form that would import an excel spreadsheet (that was in the same format of columns as the main table in the database) and append/attach it to the existing main table.
i have attached an abbreviated version of my database for reference. many thanks-
I am running this code to import an Excel sheet into a table in my database. This works fine if I set [HasFieldNames] to false. When [HasFieldNames] is set to true, I get the correct field names in the table, but don't get any data from the sheet.
importing data from two excel sources to one table. I have a table with: Unit, Info1, info2, info3, info4, info5, info6, info7. I have been able to import from the first file which has all of the unit information-'info1-5'. I need to import another file to fill 'info6-7' based on specific unit numbers. I have created two excel tables the first with the headers "unit, info1-5" and the second with the headers "unit, info6-7." The first works fine and adds all the data I want it to, but when I try to do the same with the second it doesn't add any new data.I cannot add the last two fields to my first spread sheet because it would involve sorting through 700+ units and adding the data manually to 400+ of them.
Is there a way to append a pivot table to a table or possibly make a query based on a pivot table? I need to get a count of Part Numbers and I need the average price for all these parts. Additionally I want to ignore a count of less than 3.
Also I am having trouble filtering on the count in the pivot table... haha, so I was gonna Query on it later on.
This is the first time I have tried to append/import a bunch of names and addresses from a spreadsheet into my access table.
I thought it would be easy with all the integration of applications but it's not. What happened to the bit where I could match the fields where it's not quite the same name and set the type so it worked OK.
All I seem to be able to get at at the moment is a wizard which does a very poor job and won't allow me to append the records. I tried exporting the Excel as CSV - same thing - error messages.
Is there a way of matching up the fields so everything works? What am I missing - this should be a cinch right?
I am rebuilding an application for a client and I have an Access table that I am using as a temporary table. Once the user is done entering information into the temporary table through a form, the user presses an update button that appends the records using an Append Query in Access to an SQL Server Table.
The following error message occurs:
"ODBC -- insert on a linked table 'linked tblname' failed.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Explicit value must be specified for identity column in table 'linked tblname' when IDENTITY INSERT is set to ON. (#545)
I am using a form, subform combination to record a bill with many details. The bill summary is posted into a tbl_TransactionsMain table in SQL Server using the ADO AddNew method. The PK for the tbl_TransactionsMain is then entered into the temporary table in Access. When the temporary table records are appended into tbl_TransactionDetail the error message occurs.
What is also interesting is while typing out this post I thought to test the error by manually trying to run the query. The query worked like a charm! When the orginal error occurred off of the form I tried to run the query manually and it failed. I am guessing that this might have something to do with the ODBC timeout.
I think SQL Server/ODBC connection is not liking how I have a set of records in an Access table with foreign key numbers assigned when I am attempting to append the records. I am new to SQL Server and any ideas are most appreciated! :)
I have two tables, submit and imgdest. Submit is edited by front-end users to load pictures for back-end users who then delete the images when they're done with them. Submit is edited by a form, in the form I've placed a button (Command37) that has code:
Code: Private Sub Command37_Click() Call InsertData MsgBox "Completed", "0", "Completed Backup" Exit Sub End Sub Private Sub InsertData()
[code]....
This code was working for a short while, now anytime it's run I get error 3027 - Cannot update. Database or object is read-only. However, I can open the linked table and manually change information in it with no problems.
I would like to import excel sheet that contains about 45 fields and the fields names are not well defined(not obey the Access rules). I would like to import the sheet into ms access without changing the excel sheet because i have to provide only the interface to users where they have to import sheets only. (All the time In Excel fields name are arranged and in specific order but invalid names of fields).
After 1 week the person has new excel sheet with same format and the process of importing data into ms access will be continue for whole year or more.
I am trying to import from Excel and append to an existing table. My excel sheet is named tblStatus and I am trying to append it to my Access table "tblStatus".
I get an error message that says "The first row contains some data that can't be used for valid Access Field Names. In these cases, the wizard will automatically assign valid field names." (I used the excel sheet to set up my table.) After I click OK, I get to the point where I can click finish, and I get a "Subscript out of range" error.
I have successfully used VBA to populate select query results into an excel worksheet on open, for a co-worker. Now I am trying to populate the records from an append query to the bottom of those results, which are now in a table on an excel spreadsheet, Contractor EIF. I am trying to make this work because my co-worker modifies the results in the table, deleting rows, adding fill color etc. and as new projects begin he would like those added to the projects already in the table (without rewriting the entire table).
Private Sub Window_Open() Dim strDB As String Dim strMyPath As String Dim strDBName As String
I have a database table to which I will be adding multiple records from various other contributors. I would like to build a simple, import-friendly excel table that I can mail out to others, so that they can fill it out and send it back to me. Then I will save import steps as a macro or something similar, so that I can easily import their data.
The hard part is that I would like a way for Access to compare the new records with the existing records, identify potential duplicate records by predetermined criteria (in other words, 'wild-carded' to some level of specificity, since duplicates could be off by just a few characters), and then prompt me to examine each record to be imported alongside however many existing records that have been identified as potential duplicates. Then I as the user could:
1. accept the import record as a new record
2. decline importing that record since it is a duplicate of an existing record, or
3. edit by hand an existing record that is a duplicate of the proposed import, but may require additional information, and then decline to import the new one. After each prompt, I would like the import process to continue to the next potential duplicate, and when there are no duplicates, to complete the import and display a message box that says "Import complete".
I want to connect an Excel table with an Access table so when I make changes to excel table these changes to appear in the access table and use the access table for my web site. The excel table looks like:
Room Type01/05/06-06/06/06 07/06/06-15/07/06 21/09/06-30/09/0601/10/06-31/10/06 * Standard Single 26 34 * Standard Double 44 59 * Standard Triple 60 80
When I try to connect this table with access I am getting an error reffering to the second line of the excel table where there are not numbers but dates. The access connected table looks like:
Room Type01/05/06-06/06/06 07/06/06-15/07/06 #Number! #Number! * Standard Single 26 34 * Standard Double 44 59 * Standard Triple 60 80
I have a text file with comma separated values. What I want is a single access query to import this text file into an access table. I know this can be done through import text wizard in access - but what I need is a single query. I have done the same thing for transferring oracle data to an access table - but for text file to access, I am getting -7778 error.
This is the query I have written SELECT * into MY_ACCESS_TBL from [odbc;Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};Dbq=MY_TEXT_FILE_PATH;].[MY_TEXT_FILE.txt];
Code beneath worked perfectly with Access 2003.Now we switched to Access 2010 and it generates a table where data isn't put into my 77 fields like before, but seperated into 1 field, separated by some ;;;.I am not good with programming.
