Auto Number And Adding Boxes Please Help

Jan 6, 2006

I have been messing with this for a while And i am losing my head- I am not very good with access,
Never was taught it either, but I can duplicate almost anything just by looking at it and trial and error. but this auto number and adding the tech and labor and parts feild to total up in to the total column. I will try to attach the file so you can take a look at what I have and see where I am screwing up at. or what ever I am missing. or is there a way to duplicate last years (which works fine) but I dont want any of the data. just all the propert fields.

Adding A Auto Increment Text/Number

Jan 4, 2005

I have a daabase that I am importing via excel. I want the entries to be numbered
ex: MT0001
MT0002
etc....

I would like it to promt the user for the last number(or next number in sequence) entered, then fill in the blank records with the next increment number.
The prefix will also change to so eventually the user would enter into the prompt RD0001. then autofill the 140 imported records with RD0002, rd0003... etc....

I can't really make seperate fields because the MT0001 number will become a barcode and putting them seperate causes many issues.

can this be done? Any help would be great I am still a beginner but slowly learning!
Thanks!

Adding A Second Auto Number Field To Current Table

Is this possible, and how can I do it?

Adding a second auto number field to current table and auto numbering current entries?

I need to combine some records from the same order number that currently have detailed names. I'm trying to simplify them, but I can't because it creates duplicate records.

Appending Records With A Desired Auto Number In A Table With Auto Number

Oct 26, 2005

Here is my issue. In a table with an Auto Number index some records have been deleted. I have been able to recreate them along with their original auto number. The problem is that I do not know how to append these records forcing the original auto number. I have tried changing the auto number field to a number field in the table, this works except I cannot change it back to auto number.

I am sure I’m not the first with this question or issue. I did search through a couple hundred entries about auto number before I posted this question.

General :: Auto Populated Text Boxes To Display Rows From Combo Boxes

Jan 25, 2015

I have strange issue when creating auto populated text boxes which displays rows from combo boxes.

In one database auto populates works with simple text box Control Source edit "=[ComboName].[Column](NumberOfColumn)".

Somehow same method doesn't wotk in different database: here one time I have to insert VBA code at On change Event:

Me.TextBoxName = Me.ComboName.Column(NumberOfColumn)

And other time it wont work with On change but only with After Update Event (code is same).

Another thing this morning happens was that when I tried to add new record trough form where combo box and tex boxes are located, MS Office suddenly stopped working after selecting combo box selection (with message Microsoft Office has Stopped Working). It is 2013 version.

I got it work after deleting and re-inserting VBA code to autopopulate text box at After Update Event.

Forms :: Auto Generate File Number Based On Number Of Records In Year

Jan 21, 2014

I have a form [IUDATA]

I have a add record button.

I have a date field [DATEIN]

I have a text field [DRPNO]

If the [DPRNO] field is empty, I would like the user to have the [DPRNO] field be automatically populated after the user enters a date.

I'd like the format of [DPRNO] to be "dpr YY-XXX"

Where:
YY is the year of the [DATEIN] field and
XXX is number of records in that year.

So for example, if it was the 4th record with a 2013 date the [DPRNO] would be dpr 13-004.

Auto Increasing A Number, Depending On Maximum Number When Condition Is Met

Sep 18, 2006

Hi,

I'm trying to get the maximum number in a table field to increase it by one depending on the member that is selected in a drop down in a field.

I have three tables: members, programs and times. Each member can have N programs and each program can be broadcast N times.

Each member has a three digit code, like XXX. Each program has the three digit code of the member + three numbers that are supposed to auto increment. That is, the first program of member X with the member code XXX is called XXX001.

What I'm trying to do is that when a new program is filled in and I select the member, then the program code should update automatically, adding one to the latest program by that member.

That is, if the last program by member X that was inserted in the database is XXX010, then if a new program is inserted it should automatically be XXX011, even though programs by other members have been added in between.

This is the code I use now, for the AfterUpdate when selecting the member in a dropdown in the form. But although I've played around a bit, I just get error messages...

Private Sub medlemsruta_AfterUpdate()
Dim medlemskod
medlemskod = Me![medlemsruta].Column(2)

Dim strMax As String

strMax = DMax("programs_kod", "table_programs", "Left$(programs_kod, 3) = medlemskod")
Me!program_kod = Left$(strMax, 3) & Format$(Val(Right$(strMax, 3)) + 1, "000")
End Sub

Medlemsruta is a dropdown where one selects the member from the members table, where the three digit code is in the third column (Column(2)).

I'm trying to use DMax to get the maximum number for the particular member and after that adding 1 to that for the new program code.

Grateful for any advice! Thanks!

Query That Result Incremental Number, With No Auto-Number

Sep 10, 2006

Well, here's my database :

Name : String
Address : String

I want to add an automatically generated column, "no.", to show which number it's in. Like this :

No. Name Address
1. A Unknown
2. B Unknown2

The problem is, I can do that with Auto-Number, but if the user delete row 1, the number in row 2 is still 2, not 1.

Is it possible to generate query that have "no." column in it ?

I looked at the table design to see if there were options available to me there but couldn't find anything. Is it possible? (I do not know how to use code.)

Auto Sequence Number For Reference Number

Dec 8, 2005

The title probably doesn't give an idea of what I need, so here goes.

We currently have reference #'s for our bills that include the date requested in mmddyy format, the first 3 letters of the customer, the initials of the order taker and finally a sequential number to show the sumber of bills that day.

example: 120705SEAGMM02 2nd order taken by GMM for Seagate on 12/7
120705SEARLH01 1st order taken by RLH for Seagate on 12/7

I want to generate this number automatically based on the date entered and the initials given of the user. We only deal with one customer at our desk so that will always be "SEA".

I have a query that generates the first portion (date, customer, and initials):

SELECT Format([REQDATE],"mm") AS [Month], Format([REQDATE],"dd") AS [Day], Format([REQDATE],"yy") AS [Year], Format([REQDATE],"mmddyy") AS [Both], [Both] & "SEA" & [PickUpReqData]![INITIALS] AS REFNO
FROM PickUpReqData;

But I can't seem to get my head around the part of generating the number. I know I had done this in a database I created 2 jobs ago but all my files were flooded out in Katrina. (I have since relocated to Atlanta, although I'm not looking for sympathy. But I will take what I can get!)

Anything to point me in the right direction will be appreciated. I am looking to have this on a form and feed the REFNO field in the PickUpReqData table.

Thanks.

Hi, I have a form with some fields on it, there is one called Pro Number. what I would like to happen is when a new record is created, it starts at a certain number and continues to increment by one. In other words, the first record would be 5600 and the next new record would be 5601 etc.

I did have this working in an previous database, by creating a append query to start the number, but that does not seem to be working now...

Queries :: PK Not Auto-adding

Nov 19, 2014

my main table is Patient Registration details, which includes a universal PK (field is called RGID) that links to all other tables in my db.I'm setting up a query that will add appointments to my appointment table. The PK in tblAppointments is an autonumber, but within the db, tblAppointments is joined to tblRegistration via RGID on a one-to-many relationship (one in tblRegistration, many in tblAppointments). Before you ask, referential integrity is enforced. The query will eventually be the datasource to input appointments via a form.

I'm running into a brick wall, because despite the relationship being set up correctly, I find when I run the query and specify "2" as the criteria in tblAppointments.RGID (one i set up earlier) i can alter the existing appointment record, but the RGID that should automatically insert into the field is not and then the record won't exist correctly as there's no RGID.

Adding Items To Combo Boxes

Sep 4, 2005

Hey Guy and Ladies,

In one database (Originally an Orders Database created by wizards)

This code to add items to a drop down list in the “orders details subform” works fine.

Private Sub ProductID_DblClick(Cancel As Integer)
On Error GoTo Err_ProductID_DblClick
Dim lngProductID As Long

If IsNull(Me![ProductID]) Then
Me![ProductID].Text = ""
Else
lngProductID = Me![ProductID]
Me![ProductID] = Null
End If
DoCmd.OpenForm "Products", , , , , acDialog, "GotoNew"
Me!ProductID.Requery
If lngProductID <> 0 Then Me![ProductID] = lngProductID

Exit_ProductID_DblClick:
Exit Sub

Err_ProductID_DblClick:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_ProductID_DblClick
End Sub

When the same code runs in my new database

Private Sub OptionID_DblClick(Cancel As Integer)
On Error GoTo Err_OptionID_DblClick
Dim lngOptionID As Long

If IsNull(Me![OptionID]) Then
Me![OptionID].Text = ""
Else
lngOptionID = Me![OptionID]
Me![OptionID] = Null
End If
DoCmd.OpenForm "Products", , , , , acDialog, "GotoNew"
Me!OptionID.Requery
If lngOptionID <> 0 Then Me![OptionID] = lngOptionID

Exit_OptionID_DblClick:
Exit Sub

Err_OptionID_DblClick:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_OptionID_DblClick
End Sub

I get the error message

“You tried to assign the Null value to a variable that is not a Variant date type”

Any suggestions?

Also if anyone knows a better way to add items to a list box “On the Fly” I would really appreciate it.

It would be nice if you could type in the value and it would automatically add it to the list for future use.

Thanks for all of your help,
Joe

Adding Items To List Boxes

Oct 4, 2006

This is a somewhat complicated question to explain, so please bare with me.

I have a form with a ‘list box.’ The box is populated using a Table/Query Row Source Type method. The table I am grabbing the list from is “Department,” where it contains a list of my company’s departments(ie. Accounting, HR, Payroll, etc.).

Now, the only thing this table does not have is the word “ALL.” I need this word in the “List Box” because I want users to have the option to select ALL.

Is there anything in VBScript code wise or in Row Source that I can do to include this word?

I know I can manually go into the Department table to simply add the word, but this is not the point, because there is more to that(I have different list boxes that are grabbing lists from different tables, AND I have to refresh these tables twice a week). Please help.

Thank you.

Joe

Forms :: Form Auto-Updating Other Text Boxes

Queries :: Auto-Populate Cascading Combo Boxes

Dec 18, 2013

I am working on a database where law clerks input the tasks that they accomplish each day. They use a form called "TaskDetails" to input all of the information related to their daily tasks via combo boxes. The problem I have is: often times the clerks work on the same task more than once and I would like them to be able to continue tasks already in progress - using notes to indicate what particular portion they completed that day.

In order to do this I would like to have a combo box that is based on a query of all of the tasks the clerks have completed. When they select a Task Name from the combo box, I would like all other combo boxes on the page to auto-populate based on the selection.The query that my combo box is based on includes all relevant fields.

When I click on the "Task Name" combo box I am presented with all of the records related to tasks. The fields/columns are divisionofwork, subcategory, workassignedby. I have combo boxes for all of these fields on the same page, bound to the table of tasks. Ideally, a clerk makes a selection from the "Task Name" combo box, and the subsequent 3 combo boxes will reference their relevant column in this selection and auto-populate.

Text Boxes Auto Fill After Combo Box Update?

Jul 13, 2015

GOAL: select the IC number from the combo box and have 5 text boxes auto fill.

I have a table made for the IC number drop down. The columns represent the fields that need to be auto filled.

Making some kind of query to link the combo box entry to the text boxes? Some VBA where the control source is equal to my query? I have tried changing the text box control source to equal columns from my drop down but that did not work.

NOTE: the blue font in the first image represents the text boxes that need to auto fill when I select the IC number from the drop down. The second image is my table from which my combo box is generated. The acronyms are for the two tests on this form.

Forms :: Adding Text Boxes In Form

I am trying to sum the row in a access form. There are 3 text boxed called TXT1, TXT2, TXT3. I have added an additional text box and typed the following txt;

=([TXT1]+[TXT2]+[TXT3])

Instead of totalling the row it just puts the number together. For example TXT1 contains 1. TXT2 contains 2, and TXT3 contains 3 so the answer should be 6 (1+2+3) but it shows 123. I have tried putting SUM in front but that gives me the total of the whole column not just that row.
