Automatically Populate A Date Field Based On Value Entered In Another Field
Nov 10, 2005
I need to create a New Form control for this situation:
If I enter a date into a field and the choice for another field is equal to a certain value. How can I get the date I entered to be automatically populated into another date field.
For example:
If I enter 11/10/2005 in a date field and I choose either "BN", "BA", or "BT" in a text field, I need that date of 11/10/2005 to be automatically populated in another date field on the same form.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a form with a text box where the user enters a date and then clicks a button titled "Add." I've added an on-click event to the Add button that runs an append query that adds several records to a table [tblTracking]. I have a field in tblTracking called EndDate. I want the date that's entered into the text box by the user to be populated into all the new records added to the tblTracking when the append query is run. Currently, all fields in tblTracking are populated when the append query is run, except the EndDate field.
Is this possible? If so, how?
I've experimented with adding a separate on-click event that adds a record to a separate table containing only the date entered in the textbox and an auto-populated ID field. I thought there might be a way to utilize the ID field to pull the associated EndDate into the Tracking table, but I can't figure that out, either, since I don't know how to tell it to look at the date field in the last record of the table. That sounds unsafe anyway.

I have a training log that has 4 tables, the employee table, the training course table, and the department table.
These tables all contain the names of employees, training courses, and department in one field and their respective ID codes in the other.
The 4th table is the actual log where the manager logs in who took the training courses. When the manager goes to select the employee name, course name, and department name is there a way not using VBA for the respective ID number to appear in the 4th table (they use the same field names and are related)

I am building an Access database for a client. It is an employee staffing database. With that being said they would like the ability to automatically populate the "T2PPCD" date field based on what is entered into the "Report Date" field. (Same table)
The date is the Monday after 180 days from the report date.
I already know how to get it to auto fill 180 days from the "Report Date" but I'm not sure how to tell it to give me the Monday after 180 days.

automatically populate the value of a field [Industry] in a table after a user has entered the value in another field [IndustryCode] in the same table. The [IndustryCode] and "Industry" are stored in a separated table [2012IndustryCodeTable]. I have tried using DLookup and cannot get it to work.
Ex.
|IndustryCode|Industry|InvestigationDate|
|001 |Car |
|002 |Plane |
How can i get the [Industry] to populate the information from the [2012IndustryCodeTable] once a user enters the code into the [IndustryCode] field in a table?

I would like the "DateOfConfirmation" to populate with today's date when "SSurvDiagThisYear" is Confirmed.
The DateRecordCreated is a simple =Date() that populates when the record is entered into the table.
SSurvDiagThis Year is the case outcome - Pending, Probable, or Confirmed. It is possible that the case could be confirmed on the same day it was entered into the table but that is RARE.
I am hoping for the The DateOfConfirmation to capture the date the case is confirmed so that I can gather some duration between the case being opened to confirmed.

I'm creating a form that when the user selects the following categories in the same combo box (Date Received, Date Reviewed, Date kitted, In Work, Complete) it auto populates dates in the respective fields. As I mentioned, it's only one combo box. The dates will be spread out, so the user will change the combo box selection based on when these events occur. I already have a field for each category both on the table and form. Also, I do have multiple tables for other parts of data, but these categories all fall into the same table.

Im thinking that i should use the INSERT INTO function, but im not sure of how to go about it.

I'm a maintenance coordinator for a small trucking company and I'm putting together an access database to track and manage all of our fleet maintenance. I'm rank amateur when it comes to access but I've been doing ok with it and so far I've been able to get it to do almost everything I set out to have it do.
But I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make this trick work. Here's what I want it to do. We have two groups of trailers, working trailers and storage unit trailers. We do preventative maintenance every six months on road trailers and once a year on storage units. I have a field in tblEquipmentMaster which shows the last PM date. I have a query and an report which use that LastPMDate field as well as the value of a StorageUnit checkbox to calculate what units are due/overdue for PM.
In addition to all this, I've got tables and forms set up to track maintenance records. I'm tracking the maintenance invoices as well as the details of each line item on the invoices (changed water pump, replaced tail light, PM service etc). So what I'd like to have happen is for the LastPMDate field in tblEquipmentMaster to update to the value in InvoiceDate in tblMaintenance anytime the field Description in tblMaintenanceDetails contains the text 'PM' for the unit number in question. Alternatively tblMaintenanceDetails also has a lookup field which contains maintenance codes. So the field VMRSCode could also be used as the trigger anytime the value 'PM' is selected.

I am wanting to update data in one field which is being pulled in from another table based on an entry in another field in a form
Attached is the database. In the sales form I want to enter a customer ID which will then pull in the customer name from the customer table and put it in the Customer Field in the sales table.
I know I am duplicating the data by having customer name in both tables which is bad database design!

I'm trying to complete a database.
It is to manage details of pupils with additional support needs, and plan for the extra arrangements the school will provide for assessments.
It has 2 Tables
tbl-PupilDetails
-ScottishCandidateNumber primary key (Unique number which identifies pupils to the exams board)
-Forename
-Surname
-DOB
-YearGroup
-Class
-NatureOfNeed (memo)
-EvidenceOfNeed (memo)
tbl-SubjectLevelArrangement
-ID Primary key, Autonumber
-Pupil foreign key to tblPupilDetails
-Subject
-Faculty
-Level
-Arrangement
I currently use forms for adding new pupils, and updating pupil subjects/arrangements/levels.
I also have forms to search for specific pupils, and to create lists for faculty heads showing which pupils are taking subjects within their faculty and the arrangements we expect to provide.
I use the forms to run queries, which can then output to reports for printing.
Where I am currently having an issue is the faculty field in the tbl-SubjectLevelArrangements. (If I didn't have to report to faculty heads I would just leave it out, but management will insist.)
Currently I have a form with dropdowns for adding subject, faculty, level and arrangement manually. This is acceptable for the subject, level and arrangement because they are completely interchangeable and dynamic throughout the academic year as pupils may drop down a level, or change the type of arrangement they require.
However as faculties are inextricably linked to subjects, I want to remove the possibility of human error. i.e. when a user (me) chooses either geography, history, or RE, then the faculty will always be Humanities, likewise if the user chooses French, German, or Spanish, then the faculty can only be Modern Languages etc.
I'm convinced there must be a very simple way to ensure that the faculty field prefills based on the limited keywords available in the subject field, but I just cannot figure it out.

I made a report that have 'txtRemarks' field, I just want to get remarks automatically in 'txtRemarks' field based on the other field in report. that is why I used a function like below:
Code:
Private Function Estd_Remarks(Estd_Point As Long) As String
If Me.Estd_Point < 20 Or Me.Estd_Point = 0 Then
Estd_Point = "Earlier Established"
Esle
Estd_Point = "OK"
End If
Estd_Remarks = Estd_Point
End Function
And I wrote in properties 'On Format' event this code below:
Code:
Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
If Estd_Remarks = "Ok" Then
Me.txtRemarks = "Ranked & Sortlisted"
Else
Me.txtRemarks = "Estd_Remarks"
End If
End Sub
When preview the report then it shows
Compile error
Argument optional

Within my table if Field 1 has an answer of Self (from drop down), then, I would like Fields 6-12 to auto populate; however, if Field 1 does not have an answer of Self, then leave Fields 6-12 blank.
I am not quite sure how to lay this out. I am using Access 2010.

I'm creating a database that keeps a track of questions and scores.
The questions in the database need to be dynamic and are changed frequently.
I have a scorecard table which keeps a record of scores and the applicable question at the time the record was saved. I need to do this because in 6 months time we may want to provide feedback. As the question may have changed we need to be able to refer back to what the question was.
I want the question field in my scorecard table to populate with the value in my question table.
I have tried a number of things including setting the question field in the scorecard table to a lookup based on the following query:
SELECT tblQ1.Q1
FROM tblQ1;
This works however only as a list or combo box. I don't want the user to have to select the question. I want it to auto populate, is this possible?

I have a form where all records are listed on one page with a vertical scrollbar (all simple textboxes):
----------------------------------------------
PrimaryKey Name ForeignKey
----------------------------------------------
1 Pam 20
2 John 20
3 Kim 20
4 Larry 20
... underneath these on the form is a blank record for NEW additions, which obviously has nothing in any of its textboxes, waiting for user to input some data, as normal.
The Foreign Key, due to the nature of my DB, will always be the SAME value for each record in the DB (don't ask, it's part of an export/import-to-main-db app). So I know that the NEW record, if created, will have the same value as the rest of the records.
How do I get it so that when a new record is created, the Foriegn Key textbox is automatically filled in with the value from the row above? (Due to referential integ reasons the Foreign Key field MUST be filled in accuratly or else an error ocurrs.)
Looking at the various events, I realise that it is the BeforeInsert event that will sort this out, but I'm at a loss regarding how to get the NEW record's Foreign Key textbox to match the Foreign Key value above it.
Any advice?

Mehere,
I think that you can help me with my problem, similar to the one presented here.
I have a form that, when I select an account number, I want the Group to automatically populate on the form.
Below is the code I input on the 'OnChange' event of the 'Group' field on my form:
strFilter = "OracleAccountNumber = '" & Me!OracleAccountNumber & "'"
Me!Group = DLookup("Group", "Accounts", strFilter)
OracleAccountNumber is the name of the field on my form, and it is the name of the combo box in the table that I want to lookup.
Accounts is the table where I want to lookup the OracleAccountNumber
Group is the field from the Accounts table that I want to automatically populate.
What do I have wrong?

I have two tables, each has a "status" for a project. In the first table there is only one instance of each project name, in the second table there may be more than 1, will always have the same name but may have a different "Status" (field).
I need the Status field of the first table to be set to "Assigned" if ANY of the records in the second table pertaining to that project are set to "Assigned".
Can I do this with my table or will I need to do it with a query/form combination?
Thanks,

I need to assign those appraisers to an order based on what county they cover. My main table (orders) is simple. Just an order number, order date, county and appraiser.I have a form with entry fields for all these except appraiser. I envision a "assign" button that will then pick the next appraiser in the county that was chosen. It's just a "round robin" type of thing, so the first order placed for Monroe would be assigned to ABC. The next order would be for Cecil and would assign 123. Next order for Monroe would assign DEF. I know there are many way this can be done but I've been looking at this for hours and I'm drawing a blank on the easiest way to do it.
