Chart Changing Scale Minimum.
Aug 23, 2007
Hi all,
I´ve had this problem for a while but it only just recently became very annoying.
I have a chart on a form displaying data over time. I´m using two comboboxes to select start date and end date. There are A LOT of data in the underlying query. However the problem does not seem to be related to that.
When I select the starting date to be before a certain date, the chart suddenly sets its own minimum to 0 so that the line in the chart becomes almost flat (since the data reaches from maybe 20 to mayb 25).
This has to be a common problem, but is there a good solution?
I´ve checked the data so there´s no problem there.
Thanks in advance!
Fuga.

I've cannibalized a chart from another database, hooked it up to my new data source and solved most of my formatting problems except for one, the Y axis of the chart won't display the scale properly. The minimum is set at - 3 and maximum is set at +3, but when the report opens the scale reads from -0.003 to +0.003. I've tried all the number formats I can think of. Currently it is set to General. If I set it to a number with anything less than 3 decimal places it formats as 0 or 0.00.

I have a form, a couple of comboboxes and text boxes on it. When these are filled out, the SQL of a query is changed using these parameters.
There are three subforms on the form, all pivot charts, all based on the query being changed.
The goal would be to update all three according to the user-given parameters.
Right now the subforms only update if I close and open the form, which is probably not the best solution, since it's too slow.
I've also tried to requery and refresh them, with no result.
Then I tried to overwrite the recordsource of the subforms with the same text that was originally there. This got them to refresh their data, but then all of the charts disappeared and had to be built again, so this is a no go too.

Hi all, apologies for the long post but this is a long nightmare!
Using A2k on Win2k...Due to roll out a DB today, just made my final tweaks and decided to compact/backup as have done many times before. It's not a split DB but it is secure so I copied the mdw onto my desktop and accessed it using a special compact shortcut which points to the desktop copy DB not the one on the network. When I compacted though Access went about it's business for a while and then threw up the dreaded "Network connection may be Lost" error message (roughly translates as "your database is nicely corrupt now") which I have had in the past when I tried to compact on the network. I've never had this error before compacting locally but anyway I tried again and same error message. I tried opening some forms and stuff and sure enought the DB was corrupt. No probs I thought, I can just go back to the original and start the process again. I used the normal shorcut to open the original DB just to check everything was ok and the same error message appeared with same problems. Minor panic ensued and I thought i'd got the shortcuts mixed up or something... I hadn't, Both DB's were affected.
Next option. Create a new DB and import all the objects. I did that and re-set all the permissions and the "Network Connection Lost" message dissapeared but some really strange things were happening. Forms opened but the buttons on them would do nothing. Then the forms Close button didn't work and the database wouldn't close.
I forced my way out of the DB and re-started my machine. Couldn't even log in to windows. Now at another machine and can log in to windows but DB is still having same problems. My instict tells me that the problem is something to do with the workgroup file becuase how else could compacting a copy corrupt the original? The only common link is the mdw.
Should I re-create the mdw and then try opening/importing the DB objects again? Or is there any way I can un-secure the DB and then re-secure it later?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Tom

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a chart in a form, this is not a problem, however, the chart types available are a bit limited compared to if i inserted a Microsoft Excel Chart object.
I'd do that except I'm trying to create a chart based on a query.
Is there a way to make the chart wizard use the Microsoft Excel Chart object as its chart creator so I have access to the chart types available in that object?
any assistance much appreciated.
thanks all.

Hello all. My client has decided they like the pivotchart format better than the regular chart format, especially for its dynamic quality ( it can expand and contract with form adjustments.
One chart I am having trouble replicating in pivotchart format is one that plots two data series. One series is made of columns representing large numbers, generally several hundred or thousand, and the other data series needs to be a line which usually ranges between 0-10.
Obviously they cannot be represented on a y-axis with the same scale. This is simple to handle in MS Chart.
Is there a way to make a pivotchart with a dual-scaled y-axis, and map a data series to each one?
Thanks in advance.

I have form with a label and input textbox and a cmmdbutton. In that text box you can fill a number and that number is the scale in minutes. When i click on the cmmdbutton, a table or query shows up with the time and its scale. For example if i put in the form, the number 10 in the textbox and click on the button, A table must show up with the values 00:00, 00:10, 00:20 ,00:30,00:40,00:50,01:00, etc till 23:50.
I was thinking doing it with a loop....

I have created a db in which the front end has been distributed around the office and opened in runtime. The basic function of the db is to track current projects and contact between ourselves and clients.
When we have update meetings we use the large screen TV to view the db but it only takes up one small corner of the screen and is near on impossible to read.
I would like to know if there is any way that the picture can be stretched to fit the screen that it is being displayed on? Or would I have to create a separate version for the large screen so that people can read?

Hi All,
I have a main form and 5 tabs within that mainform that are subforms. They are linked by an EventID.
The subforms are continuous forms, but only one record is "required". What kind of code do I need to make sure that the data entry person enters at least one record in each subform.
Also, is there a way that when I am tabbing through my subform and get to the second record and leave it blank, that when I press tab it will take me to the first record of the next tab subform.
I appreciate your responses.

I have a field in a report that is calculated to generate a dollar amount. Well the people who need this have some strange rules about how they get their dollar amounts. Mostly they just round up to the nearest dollar, which is no problem. But they also want a minimum charge of $2.00. So my problem is if the calculation works out to be 0.01 to 1.00, it will say 1.00 and it is going to be wrong because they will want it to be 2.00. So is there a way to set a minimum value for this field, or where should I go to try this?

Hi
I have a table (tbl1) with three fields/columns (Primary key, NameID, Number). E.g.:
NameID ... Number
Mike ........ 2
Mike ........ 3
Mike ........ 19
Ronald ...... 1
Ronald ...... 2
Greg ........ 7
...
I would like to make a query that lists each NameID only ONCE, with corresponding MINIMUN Number. So the result from the upper example would be:
NameID ... Number
Mike ......... 2
Ronald ....... 1
Greg ........ 7
How do I do it???
Thank you in advance

How do I create a query to return just one record, a minimum value for one of the fields, per group within a group that contains an ID field?
This is what my query is returning:
ID, UPC, MinOfAverage Unit Cost
19161, 026851003663, $1.15
15927, 026851003663, $1.11
4459, 026851003663, $1.18
19598, 029695215513, $39.73
15993, 029695215513, $39.29
11694, 029695215513, $48.81
This is what I need:
ID, UPC, MinOfAverage Unit Cost
15927, 026851003663, $1.11
15993, 029695215513, $39.29
I would be *extremely* grateful for an answer. I am new to this list, but I have plenty it MS Access help karma to my name, so I'm hoping to cash some of that that in.
Fingers crossed.

I have a query that is working, but I am looking to make it faster. We import 13 csv files daily into 13 Access tables. The files have an ItemID and price. We need to get the minimum of the raw data across the 13 tables & then manipulate the prices some (in the query) and get the lowest of the manipulated prices again for the 13 tables for each ItemID - some might be blank. We are using a MinOfList function in the query to get the minimum of the 13 numbers. But this is very time consuming since we have to run the Min function twice (with 13 input parameters) for each ItemID - about 15,000 records. It takes about 1 minute to run the query.

What I am doing is trying to have access identify and label various lanes of transit.
So, for example. I have the below...
Origin Destination Via Transit Time
Hong Kong New York East Coast 38
Hong Kong New York West Coast 32
China New York East Coast 34
China New York West Coast 29
Is there a way in Access to have it identify that Hong Kong to NY via West Coast is the "DEFAULT" where HKG to NY via East Coast would be "ALTERNATE" ?? And then do the same for the next origin? The table I have now has over 71 different origins but I need it look at each origin independently.

Does anyone have a good technique for enforcing a minimum number of records in a table?
I am attempting to ensure that in a table of Roles, there be a minimum of two Roles defined as Technicians. The field which identifies a Role as Technician is a Boolean.
I wrote a Function which does a domain lookup to count the number of Roles defined as Technician and am calling it from the BeforeUpdate event.
However, if there are 2 Technician Roles, and I mark a third Role as Technician, change my mind and try to unmark it...of course the Function can still see just the 2 existing.
I realize I can Undo the edit, but a user may not.
Thanks for any help.

I'm trying to get my query to display only the minimum value within my query results. I have the following fields, CustomerID, OrderID, ProductID, WarehouseID, Freight Cost.
My current query will return results that show me the locations and freight cost of each product to my customers. My intention is for the query to only return records that has the lowest freight cost as there may be several warehouses with identical products but with varying freight costs due to location to customer.
I've tried to apply the MIN function on Freight Cost but it will only sort the records in ascending order instead of only displaying the record with lowest frieght cost.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The database I'm working on is used for personnel budget projections. Because some employees are hired mid-year, I need to be able to use various dates in my projection calculations.
I have 3 different tables - one with the employee start date, the other with the fiscal year start date, and the last with the start date of certain special pay tables. In order for my projections to work correctly, I'll need to return in a query the minimum of these 3 dates. I know how to do a minimum value in a single field within a table, but don't know how to select a minimum from multiple values in multiple tables. Is this possible.
