I'm quite new to creating a database. On my navigation form, I have a dropdown list/combo box that contains up to 16 possible selections. The user should be able to select more than one item, but can't, when using the navigation form. In the man form that this 'writes to' the selections can be made, with checkboxes in front of each item in the list; but not in the navigations sub-form. the Navigation sub-form only shows the list in a column. I don't see any properties that explicitly allow more than one suggestion or restrict to only one, so am I using the correct control?
I have a database with information on carriers, lanes, and prices. I need to choose the cheapest 3 carriers for each lane. The lanes are either 3-digit zip code to 3-digit zip code or state to state (410-300 or CA-GA, etc.) So for each of these lanes, I need to find the 3 cheapest carriers all in one query. So the resulting table should look like:
I've run into a little problem while working on a electronics component database:
My plan was to use one specific table for each kind of components, i.e. resistors, capacitors, transistors etc as the specific data of each type is quite different from the other types (resistance/capacitance etc). I also thought I'd use a main form with a drop box allowing the user to choose which component to look for and then a component type specific subform to let the user make a more detailed search.
The thing is that I'm not quite sure how to call different subforms based on the drop box selection (I guess I need a subform for each type of component)? Or can I call a table with each component's specific data types and generate a subform based on this table? (I'd prefer the latter...)
To find a specific resistor you might want to specify the resistance, the type of resistive material, size and tolerance whereas an integrated circuit requires information on type of circuit, package, size etc.
All similar questions I've found relates to the use of a single, main, table only, I can't really see how to do that here...
I have a form for user to select multiple items from a combo box, and 18 unbound text boxes , each time user selects an item in combo and hits "add" the value appears in txt box by order, I mean select1 then "add" filling txtbox1, select2 then "add" filling txtbox2 ... and so on till we reach txtbox18, then msg box appears that he filled the whole 18 boxe. I have already done this before for one txtbox which is a very simple operation, but i cannot figure out how to do it with multiple txtboxes.
I am trying to put together a form where employees will be entering maintenance information into my database. One of the requirements for this data is that when they perform repair work on an asset, they have to list a problem, cause and remedy. These are codes that are specific to each asset.
The closest thing I can think of to what I am trying to acheive is the selectors on car search websites. You select a MAKE, and then the MODEL list is narrowed down based on that, then you pick the TRIM, which is narrowed down based on the model selection. I have an Excel spreadsheet of the Assets(Failure Class), Problems, Causes, and Remedies...I'm just not sure how to put this into Access to get the desired output. I have attached a sample of the Excel spreadsheet for illustration.
I believe I'm going to have to put each of the columns in a seperate table and use relationships..but I'm not sure about that.
I need to create a form that will allow the user to enter details about say a water meter - make, model, size for example.
These will be from combo boxes.
Each time the form is opened though, there could be a different number of meters to enter, from 1 to xxxxx
I will need to use this method for entries on other things as well, such as users and a couple of other things. Same basis just different information.
What I want to do is have a form where they enter the number of each thing that is going to be entered, so 3 water meters, 2 users. Then hit "next".
That will then open a form with the right number of spaces to enter the details for 3 water meters, or 2 or 1 or 999 depending on how many have been entered.
As apart from putting a look in and closing/reopening a single entry form each time.
In access 2007, I was wondering if it was possible to have multiple people enter information in a form at the same time and have it save? The database is split so that multiple people can be in the whole database at one time, but when two people enter information in the form at one time... only one of the two can save...
What the database currently has: A payment entry form consistenting of many fields. This form populates a payment entry table. Some of the fields within the payment entry form are linked to other tables and queries for data (such as a recipient list).
What the database now needs: A group payment option. Should ten people attend a dinner, the total cost needs to be divided among the attendees, and then the payment entry form table populated with ten different entries and the subdivided cost of the dinner per person.
My thoughts: The most ideal thing to do is to have a hidden recipients window show up when the user indicates that this is for a group event. The user could then add all the additional recipients (beyond the primary which is already collected on the form), and the total amount for the meal. The database would then generate an entry for each recipient listed, dividing the total cost among them, and then simply duplicating the rest of the information as is.
I'm fairly new to access and have been tasked with fixing a database that to my knowledge is built incorrectly but due to budget constraints and the time it would take to build a new one, we have to stick with this one. Here's my problem, in the database is a form that we use to create new entries in a table but when I try to create a new entry through the form, it creates multiple entries in the table with the rest of the data split between all the new table entries. Is this something that is caused by us moving over to the most current version of Access? Is there a way to fix this problem given the software we are using? At one point I had recreated this table because we had been having issues with other aspects of the database (security deposits were not being updated when entered through this form).
I have a subformClientOffers on my frmAllProperties. On the subformClientOffers is a field called Outside Agents. This field allows for multiple values to be selected.
The subfrmClientOffers is in datasheet view.
While the field Outside Agents DOES allow me to select more than one, they post in the field one after another:
Ken Shaw, John Doe, Jane Doe, Harlan Bestlyn
Therefore, the datasheet view of the subformClientOffers causes the field Outside Agents to get very long, much too long to view without scrolling. My client wishes for everything on the frmAllProperties to be viewable without scrolling.
Is there anyway, to cause the field Outside Agents to place a return between each selected name (sort of a wrap text kind of thing)?
One thing I might mention is that the field is a drop down field from tblOutsideAgents. The table itself has First Name and Last Name, but I concatenated that into Fullname on the form, so that when the user opens the drop down they see the entire name. I don't know if that would have any effect on making the 'return' thing work or not.
I can't use this field as a subdatasheet because I already have one subdatasheet attached to the subform to show multiple notes on each Client Offer.
I am trying to make a form that will allow me to make several selections and run a report. I want to be able to select from a list of Grade Levels, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. After I have picked my grade level or selected more then 1 grade level I want to be able to choose from a drop down list of school district. After I have chosen my grade level and my school district I want to run my report. How do I do that?
I have a combo box linked to a look-up table. There are 8 fields in the look-up table but only if one of three is chosen do I want additional combo boxes to become visible. Do I put the code in the "after update" or "on change" event of the combo box and how do I express the code-
If TechniqueCombo="caudal" or "spinal" or "epidural" then TextNeedleType.Visible=True
All I am trying to do is get a subform to requery after choosing a name from a combobox on the subform itself, thus updating the records on the subform. The main form name is "BasicTestOneF" the subform name is "ICminiBasicF" and the combobox name is "Combo4"
I have the combobox requery on After Update, but I still get the "Enter Parameter Value" popup. I've spent the last hour and a half just trying to get this simple thing to work and have gone through I don't know how many sites and forum posts, tried every combination of VBA code I've found, and I still can't get it to work.
I want to create a Multiple Items form presenting Orders table with two Combo Boxes:
1. A combo box to select Order_Category_ID. 2. A combo box to select Order_Type. When 1 (Minor) is chosen in the first combo box it should show Book and Pencil, when 2 (Major) is chosen it should show Car and House.
Examples in the Internet show how to do it on a 'single row' forms using the RowSource property. I tried to use a query like:
SELECT Order_Type FROM Order_Type INNER JOIN Orders ON Order_Type.Order_Category_ID = Orders.Order_Category_ID WHERE Order_Category_ID = [comboBoxOrderCategoryID]
But it sets same values for all records in the Multiple Items form and it should return different values in each rows based on value in the first combo box (Order_Category_ID).
I'm trying to populate a combo box with the last few entries of a record. I've been looking on SQL Queries and can see a way of using SELECT TOP on the recordset but querying/sorting the whole record every time seems a very clumsey way of doing it (especialy if the recordset gets large). So is there a more elegant way of getting lastrecord,lastrecord-1,lastrecord-2, etc into my combobox ?.
Note as a suplemental question is there a way of a subform showing records from last to first instead of what seems to be normaly first to last?
Hi, I am trying to choose an entry from a COmbo Box which ahas a Lookuop underlying in it. I then want to display the additonal four entries in the form it self. The data is already created and displayed in a query. The primary key gets displayed but thte other data cannot be displayed. Is there any way I can display the other details eg: Firstname, Surname Age in the same form but under different fieldnames. I am not sure how to do this. I could retype it all in but that is uneconomical. Any ideas? Please help. Thanks.
sorry to bother everyone again, this is such a great forum, and ive gotten soo much help here.
i have a customer table, containing custRef, custName, drawerRef, Address, Phone, Fax
now it contains site addresses so the custName can be the same for quite a number of entries. no the combo box in my form obviously shows all entries for custName which means the same name repeated sometimes 6 or 7 times, as i only need to select one, is there a way without looking to different tables etc to just show unique entries. i dont want to list them all in another table because i dont know them all yet, so i want it to lookup the list as i enter them.
I'm new to Access and databases so my question might seem dumb, but I need some help figuring something out. Well, I have this database where I'm storing information from different charities. So I created a table with their name, address, phone, contact person, and many othe things. Now I need to create a field with the services that they offer. Each charity could be able to offer more than one type of service. So for the services field, I cannot create a drop down list because that only allows me to choose one service. So what would be the best way to allow the user select more than one kind of service offered from a list and then be able to search that with a query? I have a list with over 50 different possible offered services and each charity usually offers 2 or 3 different services. Thanks
This might be confusing so I will try to give as much detail as possible.
I have a table that has part numbers and the number of that part used that is based on a construction group lets call it.
I have another table that has all the different products that we sell, it also contains the "constuction groups" that are needed.
My append query looks to see which product is being ordered, gets the "construction groups" then looks at the other table and gets all the part numbers and quantity used in that group. It takes the part number, quantity used and appends them with an order number into another table. This works fine, however because some of the "construction groups" use the same part number I have multiple entries for some parts.
I want to be able to make it so that when there are multiple entries where the order number and part number are the same, it adds the 2 quantities and leaves only one record.
If someone out there even understands my problem could you help me. I have been trying to get this part of my db workign for a few weeks now.
I was just wondering if its possible, i'm sure it is....... I've got a query to pull out invoices for a certain Project it brings up all project invoices and puts it into a report which works fine...... what i want to do tho is perform the same query but after i type in project code in criteria [] i then want to type peoples name or ID's that i want to print as some will be sent at different time intervals and i don't want to have to sort through invoice's to then send? is it possible? any one got any examples?
I would like to know if there's any way of fitting multiple entires of data into one field in a table. For example, a field for addresses that might be able to hold two or more different addresses. Must I create another column/field to hold how many different addresses that that person might have? Thanks!
We currently have an Access database that is designed to keep track of a number of calling cards that are issued to our clients. The serial numbers given to us are sequential when issued in batches of 50 or more but, when another batch is ordered the serial numbers can be out of sequence by anywhere from 100 to 10,000 numbers. At present I am the only one who is entering the serial numbers into the system, this is done by importing from an Excel spreadsheet or from a text file. What I want to do is, add another form which will allow the other operators to add the data themselves by entering the start and the end of the batch seqence rather than entering them in individually or having to teach them how to import data without overwriting the current information. Can anyone help me?????
i have a report that displays 12 fields of date sorted by a case number. I have a problem when there are two or more entries in the db with the same case number, but different data in the other 11 fields. My report displays each of entries in the db for the case number, but carrys the the data from the first of those entries through out all the entries. I'm not looking for an exact solution here, just for someone to get me pointed in the right direction. Is it a sorting and grouping error or something of like?
I have a tblhealthrecord that has many multiple entries for the same animalID. Would like to pull up all records from this tbl for one animal. I can sort them later but just need to know what to ask for so I can read upon them. I at first thought this could be based on date but not really since you could have multiple entries in one day.
I am trying to get a 2nd combo working from the first .
I have a table called Keystage (tblKeystage) and I have also named my 1st combo cboKeystage. then by following the vba below I created another 6 tables with corresponding names and combo's.
Private Sub cboKeystage_AfterUpdate()
On Error Resume Next
Select Case cboKeystage.Value Case "Foundation" cboYear.RowSource = "tblFoundation" Case "KS1" cboYear.RowSource = "tblKSOne" Case "KS2" cboYear.RowSource = "tblKSTwo" Case "KS3" cboYear.RowSource = "tblKSThree" Case "KS4" cboYear.RowSource = "tblKSFour" Case "Post16" cboYear.RowSource = "tblPost"
End Select
End Sub
The combo boxes both work, brilliant. My problem is that when I enter another record and make a selection from the 1st combo box, it changes all the records.
