Copying Queries Across Databases
May 18, 2005
I have nearly 100 queries in an Access database which links to a SQL Server database. The queries are working just fine.
I have created a new Access database, linking to a different SQL Server database which has the same table layouts as the first. Is there a way to automatically copy the queries from the first Access database to the second?

I wonder wether it is possible to copy elements from one database to another.
I have two copies of the same database. One for development and one for user access. If i for instance would like to copy a form from the development database to the other, how can this be done?

I have a problem that is very tedious. I have 9 separate copies of the same databse (there is a copy of each database for every branch of my company. Each database has small custom features that show what company it belongs to) i was told to make a new feature, and in the making, i had to make 40 new queries, 12 new forms 8 new macros, 12 new macros and 6 new forms. this feature needs to go into all of the databases. As far as i know, im going to need to copy and paste each individual query, form, macro and form. Thats 72 different things i will have to copy and paste into 9 separate databases. Does access provide an easier way to go about this?
any help?

I'm using Access 2007.I have 2 tables that are identical in structure. The tables are called [Workorder Parts] and [Workorder Parts Temp]. They both have the same structure:
WorkOrderPartID (Autonumber)
WorkorderID(Number)
PartID(Number)
Quantity(Number)
UnitPrice(Currency)
Notes(Memo)
KitID(Number).
[Workorder Parts] has 128 records in in and [Workorder Parts Temp] has 28 records in it that are a small subset of [Workorder Parts] therefore, the contents of the key field column in [Workorder Parts Temp] is the same as in [Workorder Parts].I tried the following SQL but get an error message saying "Cannot Update "WorkOrderPartID" Field not updateable":
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO [WorkOrder Parts] SELECT * FROM [Workorder Parts Temp]"
My aim is that I want all of the records from [Workorder Parts Temp]to be copied to [Workorder Parts] and have their "WorkOrderPartID" fields correctly updated with a new value...

I've got a listbox on one of my forms (with multi select enabled). Essentially its a list of products, the idea is for the user to select as many products as he or she likes, then they click a button and the selected products show up in an append query, which will add records to a table.
How to copy the data from a list box to an append query (nothing that each selection should have its own row)...
i also wanna look into "Select All" and "Select None" buttons, is this possible?

I have a MS Access table containing Dependent social security numbers but some of the dependents social security numbers are blank.
I have a MS Sql Database that contains a table with most of the missing MS Access table dependents Social Security numbers.
How can I take the Dependents social security number from MS Sql Database and copy/update the MS Access table.
I tried the sql code below created from MS Access and it matches 453 records out of 460 dependent social security numbers but how do I update qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN with the social security number from dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn
Code:
SELECT dbo_depfile1.dep_depend_ssn, qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.SSN
FROM qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN LEFT JOIN dbo_depfile1 ON qryGHIAccuracyFile_MissingDepSSN.MemberSSN = dbo_depfile1.dep_ss_nbr
WHERE (((dbo_depfile1.dep_first)=[FirstName]) AND ((dbo_depfile1.dep_last)=[LastName]));

I am trying to form a join between two separate databases. Database 1 has a column (Gene_Name2) that consists of common names of human genes. In this database there is only one name for each gene per field. The other Database 2 has a column (Gene_Name2) that has various names for the same gene in each field. Most genes have been given different names over time.
I want to join the databases into a separate query database so that all of the information in Database 1 is retained and only when the name in Database 1 matches one of the names in Database 2 does the row of information get tacked on to the query database. The problem is that in a normal query the text in both Gene_Name columns do not match and the query returns no matches. I have tried Instr and like criteria statements with no luck. The following is an example of what I have and what I need.
Database 1
Chrom Gene_Name1 Data
Chr1 ATC XYZ
Chr2 IDH2 ZYZ
Database 2
Gene_Name2 Data
ATC;ORF34;NM_123 ABC
ORF65;IDH2 IGH
Joined Query
Chrom Gene_Name1 Data Gene_Name2 Data
Chr1 ATC XYZ ATC;ORF34;NM_123 ABC
Chr2 IDH2 ZYZ ORF65;IDH2 IGH

Currently am trying to get together two separate Access Databases into one, which is the way it was always supposed to be.
Basically, this person accidentally created a duplicate of the database in question, and has been updating both independently at different times, meaning that whilst a lot of the database information is duplicate, there are some instances where each separate database copy has unique information on both existing contacts, and new unique contacts.
The database itself is about schools, and has tables concerning information such as calls made, contact details, school details, etc etc. Obviously all of this needs putting back together into one set of tables in one file.
I've been messing around with append and import functions, but am having issues with duplicate ID fields with append queries, and a general lack of direction on the best way to go about fixing this problem, if its even possible.
Here's an example of what i've been trying to do:
INSERT INTO Contacts ( ContactID, ContactTitle, Name, Surname, JobTitle, TelephoneSTD, Telephone, FaxSTD, Fax, Locale, SubjectKeyword, SchoolID, Reply received] )
SELECT [1Contacts].*, [1Contacts].ContactID, [1Contacts].ContactTitle, [1Contacts].Name, [1Contacts].Surname, [1Contacts].JobTitle, [1Contacts].TelephoneSTD, [1Contacts].Telephone, [1Contacts].FaxSTD, [1Contacts].Fax, [1Contacts].Locale, [1Contacts].SubjectKeyword, [1Contacts].SchoolID, [1Contacts].[Reply received]
FROM 1Contacts;

Ok, so in the frist screenshot the green box is based off of the table labelled 3. The red box is comprised of the InvoiceID from table 1, ProductID from table 2 and name/price is drawn from table 3.
The green box is used to view products, the red is an invoice. How do I add the currently viewed product (in this case, a case) to the invoice? I need to copy the product ID from table 3 to table 2. How do I go about this?
Many thanks! :D

I have an Access DB I have to put on numberous laptops. The DB is being transported via a CD. When i try to copy the DB from teh CD to a new folder on the laptop I get messages that the DB may have a virus and it cant be copied, or I need to install a microsoft service bulliten...xxxx ( I am not sure what the number is). The DB does contain VBA code and I am certain it is virus free. Is there some setting in access which enables this file to be copied on laptops which do contain virus or firewall protection or must I disable virus protection on these machines before instlaling the program or is it another issue altogether. Thanks.

Hi all, I'm hoping there is a simple solution to this one.
To keep it simple, I have a continuous form showing a list of records. I have added an unbound textbox to this list.
I would like to copy the value of one of the fields for each record and paste it into the corresponding unbound textbox. I have tried this code:
txtJobPrice = txtCustomerPrice
but that simply copies the value of the record that has the focus and pastes it in ALL the unbound textboxes.
Can anybody help me with the code/solution to this problem please?
Thank you for your help if you can.
Carl

I'm creating a database that keeps track of printing jobs at a printing company... I started my project by drawing out how I want the databases to be configured.
I was going through a book that was made for access 2000, but I need to create this in access 97 because that's what the company has on their computers. One of the features in Access 2000 thats not in 97 is subdatasheets...
Basically, what I want to do is for each printing job, there can be a bunch of different tasks that need to be completed and billed for. For example, on one printing job, they need to design a logo, and then they need to print it out and send samples across the globe, and then they need to create a pdf, etc. This is going to be different for each job.
What I figured I would do is create a separate table to take care of all of the different tasks that are related to each job. This table would have the primary key of the job from the main table for each individual job, and then they would be related in a one (MAIN entry) to many (tasks) relationship.
Is this correct in how I want to do that? How will I do this inside a form, I want them to enter the information in table that expands as they put more tasks in?
This might be a very simple question, I just want to know if I'm going in the right direction.
Thanks much!

Hello,
I have been reading a lot about splitting databases on this forum. I still have some questions.
1) Will the FE (Front End) still show the tables?
2) Will users still be able to edit the forms, reports, etc.?
3) Will my code be hidden
4) Will all the users have up to date data showing when they open the Database?
5) Can more than one person open and input data in the database at the same time?
I also want to make an MDE copy, do I split first or make the MDE and then split?
The whole point is the following: I want the people (maximum 10) that will be using this database to only be able to do enter and view data. They should be able to generate the reports but not create new reports. I only want ONE person to be able to edit the forms, code, and reports. How would I do this.
Your help is much appreciated

Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum, so MODS, do what you will.
I'll come out and admit it right now, I'm a newbie here and have just started using Access2003. I'm in a city government so I need other users to be able to view and access my database, BUT I don't want them to be able to edit or change things. I want to be the Owner/Administrator of the database and no one else. I want to be the only person that can make changes.
Is this possible in Access 2003? Can other users only open it in Read-Only format but when I open it, it's editable?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Hi,
I have an MS Access database on a server which acts as a back end, with about 30 users using the data. They each have a copy of the MS Access front end located on their PC's.
Every time I make a change to the front end, I have to redistribute the new version to each PC.
What I am wanting to do is put a single copy of the front end on the server, and adding a shortcut to this front end on everyone's PC's. This would allow me to make changes to the front end without having to redistribute to all users.
What I was wondering is, if I put a single copy of the Front end on the server and simply shortcut to that front end, will it cause any problems, or are there any issues that I should look out for?
Any help or advice much appreciated!

Just trying to get some more replies...
This post is really aimed at someone that has experience of network databases and the problems they can pose but if you can help at all that would be great!
I work for an insurance company and we have created a database for registering complaints on. The one we currently use is a single .mdb file which can be shared by up to 60 people at any one time. This is creating a lot of problems when the queries and some VBA code are run. I therefore made a server file which is just an mdb file with data tables in and NO forms or queries. This file is stored on a shared drive on the network server. We then created a client file which contains all of the forms and queries and code. This file contains linked tables to the server so when data is entered into the form, it "Sends" it to the server mdb file. The client is installed on each of the local machines c:. The problem with this was that if we made a change to the database, we would need to reinstall the client on every single user pc. This would of took ages. I therefore made an auto-update function that checked the version number on the server and if the server number was greater than the client number, a simple .bat fiile was run which copied the updated client file from the network to the relevant users local disk.
The problem we have now is that our IT department are concered that if we make a change to the client and all the staff log in at 9am for example, it will start doing multiple copying of a file around 8mb in size to around 60 machines. They are only running on a 2meg pipe so this could cause some problems. We are not looking to change the client & server idea but does anyone know if this will have a big impact and infact if the updates for 60 machine is the equivalent or lesser of 60 people sharing the single file i mentioned earlier. If the IT dept are happy with 60 users accessing the same file at the same time, which they currently are, why are they unhappy with it updating these machine using the new method.
Would really apopreciate any thoughts anyone has..
Thanks a lot.
