I have an access database in which I am updating a table from a form using visual basic for access. I have got the update to work, however before the application appends the table, it asks a question "You are about to append a row" then an option for "yes or no"
I have a custom message that appears after the appending, but I do not want the message in bold above to appear at all. Does anyone know how I can suppress that message?
how to change Access default error messages with custom messages? Like, if I enter some data in a sub form where the parent form is empty new record, default error message says that 'You must enter a value in the 'column name' field'.
I want to disable this default message and display my own error message. Now I know MessageBox and MsgBox fuctions to display custom messages, but how to disable the default message.
Is there any resource that gives a definitive run down on all the errors that can exist within access; their causes and solutions. For example; the enter parameter msg box that appears when it doesn't recognise field value.
I am an A-level ICT student I am creating a database system for my year 13 coursework and was wondering if there is a way to edit the error messages which appear when an input mask is not followed correctly and such. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I have encountered several problems with my Access 2000 application on the server at work within one day, and I am very frustrated. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please....
1/ Sometimes, ALL the tables and queries disappear from the database. I checked everything, nobody hide the objects. Do you know why? I even import new tables to see if those appear, they still do NOT show?? I even created blank database, try to import those tables "hidden", it promped need to be repaired it, then I looked back the original database, the tables re-appear; however, later on, it does have error, prompted "NOT a valid bookmark"?? When I add new records thru the form, it has the word "#error" on every fields....
2/ Some users can open, some can NOT open the same database on the same server. For those users can not open, the errors varies. For examples: it prompts that the "database needs to be repaired," after clicking "Yes", it prompts, it "could not open the database" OR "The database has been placed in a state by an unknown user that prevents it from being opened or locked" eventhough nobody open exclusively!! OR "The table 'MSysAccessObjects' is already opened exclusively by another user, or it is already open through the user interface and cannot be manipulated programmatically."
Have you seen any errors stated in 2/ in RED above. What should I do??
When i try to insert data into a backend Oracle table (with ODBC) using a form, (i use docmd.runsql "insert....") Access gives me a message like"You are trying to append 1 row to the table are you sure you want to append?"
i want to suppress this message as i have to insert into 2 tables and delete from 3 tables when the user enters some data in the form, so it asks the user five times (say 2 times for insert and 3 times for delete..) when it inserts or deletes each table. the user doesnt want this to click every time when they do that... how do i suppress these messages, is it Access-specific or oracle specific? I am not able to do this..! is this any kind of exception that i have to put in??
I have an new challenge, in which i would like to setup an application, which has to read the data from SMS. For an example user has to send the sms message which needs to be stored in MS Access database, how can we do this.
Am using the standard files ACCESSRT.MSI and ACCESSRT.CAB to install Runtime.
Does anybody know a QUICK way of supressing the annoying security messages which pop up, when the application starts under this configuration?
I don't want to write any fancy install wizards or scripts, just need a basic runtime install like the above method, but with "Low" Macro security set.
Currently have an Access db filled with different departmental information. Trying to build a workflow mechanism that will validate the status of a certain "Event".
70-80 different projects in one table. This table has Due Date for the project in itlAll of the days between milestones are static. There are 18 different Milestones covered by 6 departments.Table built to hold status of project. which includes notes for every milestone and date completed. 37 fields (date and memo field each with id number to relate back to project table
A generated email that emails the parties who are late or their milestone is upcoming. (can do this already, but see the other requirement)When users receive email they need to reply in the email that was sent to them the date and what the result of what they did in the email. Users will be using mobile devices, laptops and desktops to respond.Could use Collect Data feature, but it is not easily manipulated with vb. Also, it will not all information to be edited in a query.
I have slitted my database and given each user a copy of the front end so tha I can work on the master. I have notice that each time I sent them an updated copy of the new file once they replace the old one in their C drive, when they run a push button which makes run certain append queries, I have noticed that the message comes up although I have removed it from the Options settings. I was wandering if there was a way I can exclude this via code. THank you.
Hi everyone, I'm nearly done finishing a database for a legal firm and one of the small issues I'm having with this project is that, I have a button that creates records in other tables once a record is created in a primary table.
I have a table called tbl_login, it has a field called job_number (which is an autonumber), and when all the info is entered in the form associated with tbl_login I want a button to give the user the ability to create a record in tbl_billing with the value of job_number, now this is a easy append query, works great, but the problem is, when the button is pressed there is an event message, "You are about to update an table....." this is the natural warning even message that access gives before a change is made, my questions is.
To please me end users, how do I get that event message to stop popping up. So they just hit the button, it appends, no warning.
I'm told (via the non-helpful help system packaged with MsAccess) that the way to 'turn off' the helpful confirmation message related to an action query is under tools>Options>Edit/Find tab, and then uncheck the appropriate boxes.
I've done this. In fact, right now I have all three boxes unchecked which relate to confirmation messages (record changes, document changes, and action queries) - and I'm still having that same popup message every time I run the query, or have a report pull the query for me.
this wouldn't be more than just a hassle, except that one of the end users for this system isn't the most computer-savvy person in the whole world. In fact, I desperately need to "steve-proof" this system! I have this nightmare of being woken up at midnight because of this little glitch. any ideas how to disable that popup confirmation message for good??
I have 3 different "buttons" on my form that run individual update queries. I know these update queries are running correctly. Decided to make a macro that will allow me to run all these queries by clicking one macro button.
My question is: Is there some way to stop the pop up msg that advises I am about to run an update query and the next pop up msg that informs me of how many rows I am going to update?
These pop up boxes are starting to drive me crazy when I run the macro.
I am currently attempting to use SQL in Access to alter a table by adding a new attribute and giving it a default value. Creating the attribute is fine but i keep getting an error when attempting to assign a default value. My code is as follows:
ALTER TABLE Objects ADD Status Text DEFAULT 'Object is Currently In';
I've made a data access page which is in data entry mode. One of the fields is a date field which I have set the default value as =Date(), but it only inserts the default value when you move to a new record it doesn't put it in on the initial record.
i once saw an access database that gave the user to the option to hide the access screen that is usually behind the windows of your actual database. how do i do this? also if anyone has any other useful tips for making a database look more professional. is there an easy way to do splash screens? thnx for the help.
When opening Access, the default printer changes from "Letter" to "User-Defined". The output is then unreadable. I then change it back to "Letter" and all is fine until I reopen Access with the same result. I'm using Access 2003 with a Brothers HL1440 How can I make Access leave the printer's default setting as it is?
I'm stuck on a step where I want to import an excel worksheet into the msaccess like we do normally. I do not have any data inside, it's just the header I will be importing. The data will be feeded by other forms based on some selections. My requirement is the "Default value" of each field should be set to 1 as we see in the property of a table in design mode.
The data would be updated later for some fields via macro or commands, but the fields were nor touched should be set to 1 (Value).
What is the proper way to store in a field if I want to store current date AND time as a timestamp. I chose Date/Time as the data type and General Date in the Format. Now I wanted a timestamp whenever a new row is added so I placed =Date() in the default value but it only shows me the date, not the time?
Second question if you know Java: I retrieve this date in a java.sql.date and .toString() shows me the correct result in the default format but when i use the DateFormat.format() method on it, i get a Null Pointer Exception. What could be the problem?
how do I get access to the default navigation buttons on a form ie back, forward, new and last buttons. I want to right some VB code that acts when the buttons are pressed. How do I do it?I don't really want to create my own buttons and do onclick events.
I have a form with a combo boxes and a table with relevant list and additional field, fldDefaultDrive (Yes/No Field).
Currently in order to set the default value, I have used the following code for each default;
Private Sub Form_Load() Forms!frmMediaLabeller!CboDriveName.DefaultValue = """D"""
End Sub
However, I want users to be able to go into the table and change the default value if thier CD player default Drive is anything but D: Drive. I have tried to replace the D above with an SQL statement but with no success.
Private Sub Form_Load()
Dim Drivename As String
Drivename = SELECT tblMediaDrive.fldDrivename FROM tblMediaDrive WHERE (((tblMediaDrive.fldDefaultDrive)=-1));
Can't find any way to declare variables in the sort of module that Access uses by default.Having changed the default, I now get 'Option Compare Database' as the first line (previously nothing was there). Adding anything at all in that section, or changing it to 'Option Explicit' has the consistent effect that all the procedure names in the module are not recognised and nothing works.
Variables declared in procedures work only in the procedure even if declared as Public. Can't get a Static variable to work in more than one procedure. However many variables I declare, there are never any in the Declarations list at the top of the Code Window.
I am building a db and i want to disable the Shortcut Menu (pull down menu at form's title bar) to prevent the users from closing the main form.
There is a Disable Shortcut menu setting in the File/Options menu but the whole db gets the setting.
I simply want to deny the users from accessing the Shortcut Menu when on the Main Menu (or a particular form) but allow it on other forms where Printing is required via the Shortcut Menu.
Im looking at 2 options; edit the shortcut menu or force a form to disable that w/o affecting other forms.
