in the most straightforward situation, you create a form based on a table...
now if i create a query with fields from all the tables.. eg..
job date, job time, driver name, price
if i create a form in the basic way, you cannot add fields from several tables (in the direct sense i mean, forgettin the use of subforms.. etc)
if i create a form based on the query, will this allow me to add as many fields, and most importantly from as many tables, as i wish.. choosing only the relevant ones for that particular form..
will everthing automatically link with the job id if my user fills in this form..
if this is the case then i can see my self making one large query.. with all the relevant job details, and then using a tabbed form to separate them.. is this a common practice.. is this the correct way to go about things?
I have an issue with a database layout and I am not sure which is the best way to proceed.
The problem is in an invoice part of a db . When a service is delivered, say 2 hours of a technicians time, it has to be assigned to a particular tech. No problem when there is only one tech however there could be two or more techs who have helped to supply this particular service and the time ( and income) needs to be divided up between them. However the invoice can only show one item the ie total time taken to deliver the service ( quite likely to be a fixed cost for a particular service ).
Possibilties I have considered are: to have a number of fields in the invoice detail table , one for each tech, however I would have to assume a maximum number of possible techs per job and also there would be a lot of redundant fields and trying to analyse how many hours each has worked would be painful.
Each tech could be assigned a code ( single number or letter ) and these could be stored in a single field . The code would then have to be manipulated to work out how many techs worked on each item and how much each had worked. Again this is rather messy.
I think the ideal would be for each tech to have their own table where each time an service was invoiced which they helped delivered the appropiate percentage is assigned but I cant quite see how to do this.
I have designed a few databases for my work. I have been recently assigned a new one that has me a little stumped. I am looking for some suggestions as to how to go about this. Essentially, we have a training department that does training in the various aspects of the job. In the various classes, the "students" take a midterm exam to gauge the level of retention of the training midpoint in the class. Then at the end of the class, they need to take a final exam. My department director would like the "students" to be able to take the exams using Access, since 99% of the questions are either multiple choice, yes/no, true/false, or fill in the blank, and Access would be able to "auto-grade" the tests, essentially. I am at a loss, basically, as to the layout. The "student" information table would be the easy part. I am unsure of how to create the tables that would have the questions, depending on the class and whether it is a midterm or final, with the answer choices attached. Any suggestions?
What tables should i create that suits 'normalisation'? Do I need to do anything different if I intend to upload this to Sharepoint and have a sharepoint entry or Infopath component.?
How do I limit to only 25 Students on a given date?
Student Data is Imported in from Excel spreadsheet
Basic Access User, but need to move on from Excel UI's.
Starting up a database that will allow a teacher to add students to a detention roster on a specified date.
I want to track inventory. All our items are tubes that are stored in boxes in a 10x10 grid. So I have a single access table with columns for tube ID, box ID, and position in the box (numbered 1-100). That works fine in terms of 'where can I find tube x'. However it's also useful to be able to look at the physical box & check that there are tubes where should be tubes, and empty spaces where there should be empty spaces. So for each box in the database, I want to print out a 10x10 grid, with the appropriate tube ID's in the appropriate place. Then I can easily check the layout in the database against the layout in the actual box.
I created a sub-form using the wizard; however, I can't get it to view as Calumnar even when I move its text boxes about and change their order. When I run it, it always show as a datasheet!
Ive been using the form wizard, with columnar but I find it squishes up some of the words, and doesnt use the whole screen width, is there a way I can change this? and is there anywhere that you can download more styles?
ok, i have a few design requirements and am unsure as the best way to approach the situation..
here is the basic layout of my tables..
http://www.londonheathrowcars.com/bait1.jpg
i will basically need a form with the following layout
http://www.londonheathrowcars.com/bait.jpg
you enter the date at the top of the form.. and then all the records you enter will use that value as the job date..
also.. the customer name and number will need to be entered in this form.. and the customer id will have to be registered to the job in the job table..
can anyone suggest where i should start with regards to creating a subform.. a query.. etc??
Hi there, I have a warehouse table that lists a stock code with the last 12 periords closing balances in a record.
I would like to write a query that just shows each stock code with only one month per record and has the openning and closing balance for that month.(the closing balance of one period is the openning balance of the next period).
I haven't worked with access for years and can see how to do this in my head - i just can't figure out what to write. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I seem to be having an issue with a split form I've been working on. I created this split form on Monday and it was working just fine but today, I have added a couple minor text boxes. Since then, I can view the form contents in Design View but when I switch to "Form View" or "Layout View", it's all gone minus the logo in the top left corner and the title for the split form.
How can I see what they will finally look like while I am formatting them? All the views on offer (form/layout/design) are all displays within the the context of the access programing screens, with other windows and menus and ribbons etc. I want to see how it will look full screen. I know I can change a lot of options, change to the form as a default to open with, resave, reopen and then reverse it all but that's not really any good for doing every time you make a minor change.
I have a form with a child that holds a query and for 99.9% of the time remains locked as it's for viewing data only. However, if the user wishes to make a change then they need to press an unlock button first then make the changes.
The problem I have is when closing the form; if this child's query has been unlocked I'm getting a message asking do I wish to save the changes to the layout of the child's query. The answer will always be "No".
I've added the following line of code to all sorts of procedures with no success.
My form was working fine but when I added an extra tab it started showing as completely blank in design view. When I deleted the tab I had added I still was left with the same problem!
I've attached an image of the form properties. I want to use the form to enter data so it needs to show even if there are no records.
I had read that it could be if there is no data but typing data in the tables hasn't worked either.
I have table tblLog set up to track logging on and off. All I am tracking is the date and time the user logs on and logs off. That's pretty simple to do. When logging on it appends the userid, date, and time to tblLog. When logging off, it updates the logoff date and time for the matching fields.
What I need to know is this. If a user closes the database without using the appropriate buttons within the program, such as Ctrl Alt Del, or right clicking and using the Close command, or if the power shuts off, or whatever, is there a way to get that last update query to run...
Is there a way to open a form from a form in a different database? I'm pretty sure it needs to be done in VBA and have seen some code floating around that suggests it can be done, but I'm thinking there's more to it, like maybe one or both of the DB's need to be in a different format?
I have many forms in my database, three of which completely freeze the database if I edit the slightest thing on them. These forms are all the same, and are unique to any other type of form in my database.
An example of one of the forms is the following:
The form is an "Edit Record" form which allows the user to edit a record directly from a form without going into the table. It is only possible to bring up the edit form by going to the main navigation form that consists of various buttons which a user would press, in this case the user would press the "Edit Record" button. This brings up a unique search form that allows a user to search for a record to edit. The user types their search parameter into the form and once the "search" button is pressed it will bring up the record with all the details in a different form.
Note - The search form is linked to the table where the edit record form is linked to a query.
My problem is this:
I have three buttons on the form; Exit, Cancel & Finish Editing.
All I wanted to do was to ammend the code of the buttons so that "Finish Editing" wouldn't close the form onced pressed and that "Cancel" would simply undo the actions of the user instead of undo and then close the form.
I know exactly how to do the ammendments. But, once completed if you return to the main navigation and click on the "edit" button the search form appears and allows you to type in the search parameters, but once the "Search" button is clicked the search form closes and you are returned to the main navigation where you are unable to click anything in access or even close the programme.
i want to ask is there any way to open another access database using when click button at form.. for example i have tracking.accb then at my switchboard form, i would like to have a button that can go to another access which is borrow.accb. can these possible for me to do it..?
Where does one start to look for information on what is needed to set up an online web form that can write to an Access database? I'd like to learn how I could possibly set up an online registration form for clients to use via a web page. I don't really know where to start, but I have seen some information on asp.net stuff. What's the easiest path?
I want a good describe about how to create database for supermarket specially how to build a form for selling item, what is a structure of tables ........
