How Do I Update A Subform Based On A Query ?
Sep 14, 2006
I would like the subform in the lower left corner to be blank when
I open the program. It is populated from my tblClients table.
How it works in general is you select "x" number of items from the
list box...hit the search button and the results go through a query
and then show up in the subform.
everything works ok but, like I stated I would like the subform to
be blank when the program is first started up.
It seems to be retaining information from the last start up in the
subform box.
Thanks for your help...it's coming along great so far...
see attached doc...

I run a physical therapy office and patients come in for treatment either 3, 4 or 5 times per week. My database is used to track these frequencies (among other things).
I have 3 queries which count how many patients come in 5, 4 and 3 times/week.
In my main table I have fields called "how many 5's", "how many 4's" and "how many 3's".
I have tried to design an update query which will update those fileds in my main table to reflect the counts in the 3 queries mentioned above.
(I'm not using SQL view, I'm using the query design view)
In the "update to:" row, I use the Build function and locate the count I'm looking for.
Problem: when I run the query I get the error: Operation must use an updateable query.

Hi all,
Simple question...I think. Is it possible to update values in a table, based on the results of a query?
For example, I have tblPRR and qryProcessed.
When I run qryProcessed, I would like the field "Status" in 'tblPRR' to update from 'No' to 'Yes'.
Could anyone advise if this is possible?
Cheers
Rob

Dear All,
This is my first post in the forum and would like to apologise for any shortcomings.
I want to update a field in my table with the result from a query.
Eg. Table A with two fields, a1 (recorda1) & a2 (recorda2)
Result from Query (recordq) has to be replaced in Table A, field a2.
after the code is run, (recorda2) should be replaced by (recordq)
Can anyone help me how to do this with the help of an update query.
Regards to all
Basheer

Hi all,
This is quite a basic question and I'm sure that it has been posted here some time ago, although I couldn't find it on using the search.
I want to update a field in one table "FieldA" using an update query. I want the update to be based on matching Field B in the updated table, and Field C in a separate table (both tables have the same design structure).
That is, I'd like my query to search each record in the Destination Table to see if its Field B matches a Field C in a separate Table. If there is a match, I'd like to Update Field A to the corresponding field A of the reference table.
I have tried to do this with an Update Query based on both Tables in design view. Thus far, it hasn't yielded any results.
Can someone please post the solution asap. Thanks so much for your help.
Regards,
Mike J.

I currently have the sql below...
UPDATE tbl_Node_List INNER JOIN qryUpdate_P1 ON tbl_Node_List.Zip = qryUpdate_P1.[Zip Code] SET tbl_Node_List.[Date Sent] = (SELECT [MinOfAudit Date] FROM qryUpdate_P1), tbl_Node_List.[Date Recv'd] = (SELECT [MaxOfAudit Date] FROM qryUpdate_P1)
WHERE (((tbl_Node_List.Zip)="35243"));
but I get an err.msg stating the operation must use an updateable query.
What I am trying to do is update my dates in 'tableA' with the max and min values stored in 'tableB'. I have read some of the posts but still can't quite get it. As always all help is appreciated.

I have a form which is based on a select query that brings together 2 related (one to many)tables. When I keyin data to the form it does not update the corresponing table.
Is it possible for a table to be updated in such a way, or do I have to create a form based solely on the table(s) without using a query?

After a scary recovery I have a new problem: Intially I changed the 'Data Entry' property on a subform, in a multi-tab form  My tabs all dissappeared. (My Bad!:o )
Now that I have recovered I get a message when I close the form, asking do I want to save the changes to the design of the query.
This only seems to happen when I have read a second or third etc record that displays a different set of records in the subform.
This is a HR mdb with leave records in the subform.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS I thought I had posted this 2 hrs earlier, but can't seem to find it. Hoping this isn't a second posting ...

Because my tables were already large I split them up by environment to speed up data maintenence and retrieval. Thus I have table names which contain the environment as part of the table name (ex: tbl_TEST_MyTable, tbl_PROD_MyTable). Once the user sets the environment they want to use (by clicking on an option button) I update the form's recordsource to the appropriate table. My form has 5 subforms within it.
Even with the split loading the form was taking a long time because some of the queries the subforms are based on are joining tables so that they can be linked (parent/child) to the form. I created indexes to speed up the data access which helped a little but it was still running too slow. So, I attempted to change the subform's queries to only join the necessary data by re-creating the queries each time the user changes the form's current record.
For example, what I had originally was taking too long:
SELECT DISTINCT tb.*, pt.CollId, pt.ProgName, pt.QueryNo
FROM tbl_TEST_SysTables AS tb INNER JOIN tbl_TEST_Plan_Table AS pt
ON tb.Name = pt.TName
ORDER BY tb.Name;
and the parent/child link fields are CollId, ProgName, and QueryNo.
This is the change I made:
SELECT DISTINCT tb.*, pt.CollId, pt.ProgName, pt.QueryNo
FROM tbl_TEST_SysTables AS tb INNER JOIN tbl_TEST_Plan_Table AS pt
ON tb.Name = pt.TName
WHERE pt.CollId = 'BATCH_COLLECTION'
AND pt.ProgName = 'PROGRAM1
AND pt.QueryNo = 123
ORDER BY tb.Name;
where the pt fields are changed dynamically each time the user navigates to the next record in the form. This resulted in much faster access time; however I discovered that the form was always displaying the query that existed before the form was opened. I have not been able to figure out how to get the subforms to display the latest created query.
While debugging I discovered that the form's OnCurrent event was being executed 3 times before the form is opened. I don't know what I'm doing that's causing this.
I also discovered that the subform events are executed before the form's events, so I think that's why the latest query isn't being used. I attempted to requery the subform in the form's OnCurrent and OnOpen event, but to no avail.

Hi, not sure if this is possible or the most economical approach but here goes:
I have a lookup table (tblHolidays) with a list of holiday dates (fieldname "HolidayDate") in it.
I need an update query that can check all "StartDate" values on a table called "tblMasterLog" and where this date matches the ones on "tblHolidays", will add 1 day to the "StartDate" and then keep repeating until there are no more dates to change.
Can this be done?!
Thanks in advance

I have a table 'table1' which has various field including an ID field and a yes/no field. I then have a form based on a query originally derived from data in the original table. The form provides a list with some ID's with a yes and some with a no.
I'm trying to write a button code to convert all the no's into yes' for those ID's picked out by the query.
I've searched lots of sites and get that I need to set recordsets for both table1 and the forms' query but all my efforts crash or give an error.
I am looking for the right way to say .." for each ID in form set the yes/no field corresponding to the same ID in table1 to yes"
I'd attach my version ....

When I started building forms to fill my junction tables, the example that I looked at based them all off of queries. That's what I've done for the most part. However, this latest subform that I've made and embedded into a main form is based off of a table. Will that cause problems for me down the road? I'm not so far with it that I can't redo it off of a query, I just don't want to!

I have a subform with two fields whose record source is a Query ("subquery")
Code in the query is as follows:
"SELECT Sum(capital) AS cq1
FROM capital_act WHERE (((capital_act.month)='jan' Or (capital_act.month)='feb' Or (capital_act.month)='mar') And ((capital_act.projectid)=forms!frmplan!projectid)) ;"
This query updates the field cq1 in my subform. I want to add 3 other fields for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters. For instance the second quarter field cq2 field would have the capital_act.month as 'apr' or 'may' or 'jun' and so on...
cq1 value gets updated fine. I dont know how to add the fields cq2, cq3, and cq4 on the same subform whose record source would be the same query ("subquery").
I added a second SQL statement in the same query ("subquery") for cq2 but access does not let me add it.
Can somone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks.

Hello,
I have a main form which has 2 subforms. The main form is the name of the Student. The first subform is the data entry form. It has 2 fields. One for the Trimester - a drop down which has "1, 2, 3" listed. And the second field is the benchmarks (again drop down). Now the second subform is a more elaborate way of viewing (only for viewing purposes) which standards have been chosen for which trimester. Now this form's control source is a Crossstab query, which updates the Trimester field for each of the benchmarks for the particular student.
Now my problem is I am trying to update this subform which is for viewing purposes only, automatically, so that the moment a benchmark is chosen on the other subform, the [trimester] field automatcially gets updated on this form. All the benchmarks are listed on this form (view form) and a field which is the trimester field. Data entry is not allowed in this form. So the information has to get updated automatically. It does when I close and open the form, but thats not how it should work.
I tried everything I thought possible (requery, refresh, a button to click) but couldn't get the form to update.
Please help! I would really appreciate if you could help me find a solution.
Thanks in advance

Me!sbfDepartmentSub.Form.RecordSource = MySQL
Me.Refresh
I have tried Me.Requery also.

I have a query in a subform on the main form. I have a search box that updates the subform/query as you type something (using the On Change event). You then click on the record you want which transfers the information to the appropriate text boxes (one of these txt boxes is the clientID I talk about below) located next to the search box.
I have a Contacts subform/query much like the serarch box I created and I am using a txt box (on the main frm) clientID (which I get from the above process) to filter the contacts. Now when I pass the ID to the txt box on the main form I am having trouble getting a event to trigger and update the subform/query correctly.
I am using VBA to create a simulated Click action which seems to work but is not updating the Contact subform/query, it is just resetting the subform/query. If I manually click on the txtbox with a ID in there all works wonderfully. I have attached the database. I made the clientID and btn next to it visible(this would not be visible normally).I just realised I left a button on the main form next to the clientID txt box just ignore that and click on a client then the clientID txt box to see how it updates the contacts subform..

Doing a school project and need to add a count function to a sub form that is based on my query. The count function just needs to be displayed on the bottom of the sub form showing how many records are in the sub form.
When I do this, the function works all good.
When I add the function to a header or footer, so that it doesn't show a column and repeat itself each time.

I created a main form containing list boxes and a subform. What I want to do is to select items in the list boxes. Then, by clicking "Search" button, the data filtered by the selected items will be shown in the subform. But the subform cannot work and show the query results. I think I miss some VBA codes.

I have a main screen that has a tabbed form in it. Each of those tabs has a sub-form in it that displays information and allows some information to be updated.
In one tab I have a query based sub-form that returns information related to the project. This information cannot be manipulated or changed as it comes out of a company managed database. I would like the analysts to be able to add more granular information to a new table by inputting information in a dropdown field for one of the new table fields, but utilizing two of the existing sub-forms fields as identifiers in the new table.
