Creating Access Table Linked To Excel File

May 22, 2013

I am trying to create an access table linked to an excel file.

The excel file has 256,000 kb, 15 columns, 6,400 rows.

When I go to CREATE, DESIGN VIEW in access and try to create the new linked access table i get this message -

"MICROSOFT ACCESS HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO CLOSE". I click on Ok and then it says "REPAIR MY OPEN DATABASE AND RESTART MS ACCESS".

I click on OK and then save the back up file. The file disappears. I start over again and the same process starts again and again...

Does MS Access Has Functions Like Excel? If Sunday Move To Monday

Jan 5, 2008

Hi!

I would like to know if MS Access can handle functions that Excel has, for example, "weekday" function, that returns a number representing the day of the week (sunday=0, monday=1, ...), given a date value.

If so, I have a conditional like this in excel:
=IF(weekday(DATE-3)=0;DATE-4;DATE-3)

If DATE is sunday, then move to monday. Is there a way to make something like this in Access?

Modules & VBA :: Copy Excel File Or A Table In Access To Specific Location On FTP Server

Jul 11, 2013

I need some simple code that will copy an Excel file or a table in Access to a specific location on an FTP server. I would think this would be a very simple task, but I have yet to find any sample code that is *simple*. I have seen lots of code that requires downloading this dll or that mda, but the examples don't work. There must be something built into MS Access 2010 that will allow a file to be uploaded to an FTP site.

All the variables are known:

The FTP location (it never changes)
The FTP Username and Password (they never change)
The destination folder on the FTP site (it never changes)
The File type (it never changes)
The File name (available from the form in Access from which this will be executed)

I can either produce an output file, then copy it to the FTP site, or I can export the table directly to the FTP site with the file name for that day.

This seems to be a very simple task with no simple solution. Currently I am using an FTP app to get the file to the FTP site, but I would like to automate this. The process that creates the output file is already automated, so I would just like to add this to the existing code as its own module.

I'm looking for a simple command on the idea of:

DoCmd.FTPFile, acExel, TableName, FTPFilePath, FTPFileName, Username, Password, acUpload

just made all that above up and none of it is a real function/command in VBA, but is just the kind of thing I'm looking for.

I would think that since I can download and XML file from an FTP site that it should be child's play to upload a simple file to an FTP site, but I can't figure it out.

Move MS Access Table Data

Aug 26, 2004

I am working on a calibration database which keeps track of measurement equipment and their scheduled calibration date. There are several gages that become "In-Active" because they are old, lost, or whatever. I have two tables that have Active and In-Active gage listings containing all of the pertinent information regarding that gage. I would like to put a button in the Active gage form which in the event the gage becomes "In-Active", pressing the button moves all of the information in the "Active" page to a new page in the "In-Active" table. So essentially one can look at Active gages and In-Active gages depending on the switchboard button that is clicked.

I know that is probably a crazy question but any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Linked Excel File In Access

Feb 26, 2006

I am using Excel and Access 2002. I have linked an excel file in Access. It is my understanding that if I add a new record in Excel it will automatically add it to Access and vise-versa. This is not working for me. I can add to one or the other and it will not display in both excel and access. I can manually add to both and access will display all data from both the database the table in access and the linked excel file. Any Ideas?

Thanks!
Terry

Can't Import Excel File Into Access

Dec 11, 2004

OK. I feel like an idiot but I did read the manual, Googled, and Microsoft help, but still cannot do it.
The problem is on the import feature, there is no option to choose an Excel file.

I lowered the macro security level to take it out of "sandbox" mode, I reinstalled
office and selected run all features again. I updated as well.

I tried blank databases to import to. No luck. I go to external data, import and I can choose ODBC, XML,
sharepoint or Access files only.

I am using MS Office Pro 2003. Thanks for the help.

Need Help Creating Table From Excel File

Nov 20, 2006

I am stuck with a problem where I need to create a new table from an excel file. In detail my problem is;
The excel file contains an order from a customer, like below,
BOM Component Qty
123 abc 2
123 def 2
234 ert 1
234 qwe 1
234 uio 1

I need to create a table from this data like;
Qty Partno
1 123
4 abc
4 def
1 234
2 ert
2 qwe
2 uio

NB! In reality the components are numbers not letters.
The qty for BOM is always 1 and the component 2xqty.

It is important that the BOM number is listed first and thereafter its components.

So I need to somehow associate the BOM number with its components and list them together as a group.
I just cannot figure out how to do this.

ANy help is greatly appreciated.

Parsing From Excel File For Access Standardization

Oct 19, 2004

Hello! I have an Excel file that I need to get into Access. Problem?: I need to "parse" portions of it. What I have is as follows:

Roach, Richard 555-55-5555 01-6500-3000

Date In Out In Out
Data Data Data Data Data
Data Data Data Data Data
.

.

I need to pull only the Name (Roach, Richard) from the first line and then all of the data in the "table" below it.

Is there a way to do this? PLEASE don't tell me to give up. I know I'm a novice, but I'm desperate. Thank you so much!

General :: Export Table To Excel File

Dec 6, 2012

I have a table of trainees. One of the fields of that table is 'authorized trainer' (YES/NO) tick box. What this allows me to do is query the trainees table based on who is an authorized trainer, and who is not. I have a table of called training, that records information about training a trainee has completed. One of the fields of this table is a lookup that looks up all the trainees from the trainee table who are authorized trainers, so that I can also record who conducts each trainees training.

As you can see from the table the listbox field for trainer shows both the last, and first name of the trainer.I now need to export the table to an excel file, but when I do, only the second name of the trainer is exported. Is there a way to export both the first and last name?

Importing Excel File To Append A Table

Jun 27, 2012

Is the record is already existing in access, but a few fields are blank, is there any way to import an excel file that just updates those blank fields for the specific record?

For example,

I have an excel file that includes files that are ready to ship out. My access database already has those file names, but does not have the shipping box number. Is there any way to import the excel file into my database, have it find those specific file names and update the shipping box number field? The excel file won't be adding any new records, just appending existing records.

Open Excel File Stored In Access Database

Feb 8, 2007

I need to open an Excel file that has been stored in the Access Database using the insert Object functionality of MS Access manually.

What i am aware of is that i cant just read the field containing the Excel File into a Byte Array and pass it to the Excel object in C#,as the file is wrapped in the OLE Wrapper used by Access while inserting the file in database.

I have tried locating the Header of Excel file from the byte array and read the file from there on but it is not working.

while (true)
{
if (0xE11AB1A1E011CFD0 == BitConverter.ToUInt64(byStream, i))
break;
i++;
}
output.Write(byStream, i, byStream.Length - i-1);

byStream is a byte array into which i have read the Excel file from Database.
I am locating the Excel file header in the byte stream and am writing the byte array to a file from that location.But on opening the written file it dosent work.
Similar approach had worked in case of Images but now in this case.

Can some one please tell me as to how i can open the Excel File.
Can I use Interop.Access object to achieve the goal??
