Limit Text Entry Based On Another Text Box
Sep 8, 2004
Hi,
I'd like to know if this is possible and if so, how to do it.
I have a couple of text fields, let's say text1 and text2. I would like the following functionality:
if text1 = "somevalue"
then allow entry into text2
else disable entry into text2
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello,
Could some kind person out there help me out please?
I have been 'dabbling in' the area of conditional formatting, particularly in the area of changing the colour of my active form based on the result of what’s output on a text box. I have had some success in this area but where I am getting confused is getting the colour of my form to change on the basis of what is entered into a text box control that does not match exactly. My forms background changes to the required colour when its value is ‘set exactly’ but what I am trying to achieve is to change it according to the first letter of entry regardless of what follows? It always starts with a letter, either a ‘D’ or ‘V’ to indicate whether its ‘Vital’ or ‘Desirable’ and is subsequently followed by no more than 6 numbers and finally a letter. Basically I need my form to change colour based on the whether it is either a ‘V’ or a ‘D’ irrespective of what follows???
What I have been using so far is:
Private Sub Model_Number_AfterUpdate()
If Me.Part_Number = "V111145K" Then
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 12632256 'Light Red
Else
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 8421631 'Blah Gray
End If
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Current()
If Me.Part_Number = "V111145K" Then
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 12632256 'Light Red
Else
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 8421631 'Blah Gray
End If
End Sub
Can anyone help me out of a ' sticky situation'..
Ta Very much
Carol

i have a database with a large number of records. Navigating through the records through a form one by one is a pain, so i want to create a text box where you can enter the ID number of the record, and whichever record has the matching ID number it changes to that specific record. I know that something like this is already apparent at the bottom of Access, but i want my user to do everything within the database itself, as all of the panes are removed whilst being used

I have a form where I want a textbox [txtMaxOrdLimit] to be visible only if another text box on the same form [PaNumber] contains the letter D in the string. This is the code I have on the forms On Current property but I'm missing something because textbox [txtMaxOrdLimit] doesn't show on the form at all.
If Me.PaNumber = "*D" Then
Me.txtMaxOrdLimit.Visible = True
Else
Me.txtMaxOrdLimit.Visible = False
End If

I have a db with around 400 records. It contains user's basic information such as first name, last name, supervisor...
Problem is that one supervisor can be multiple users supervisors so they are showing up a lot each time I use the search tool. Is there a way to disable searches on the supervisor field?

Hi guys,
I have a text box, which requires a 8-digit number entry. I have wrote the code to check that the length is 8 and if it isn't a label will turn visible next to the field telling the user entry must be 8 digits.
This works for when i enter a number less than 8-digits but when i input a number with more digits as it does not fit into the text box it turns it to a scientific format value and when the code runs it shows the length is actually 8! And therefore the entry is valid!
I.e. when i input 123456789 the text box shows 1.23E+08 which is 8 charecters!
I dont want any error messages to pop up as i handle them by code and use labels to show the error message next to the problem field and i would like to keep this consistent. Is there any way i can do this by a function or a property in the table or form?
I appreciate any help/advice
cheers

I am trying to increase a text box field size from 64 characters to 100. I know text fields can hold 255 characters, but whenever I make the change and try to save it, a warning pops up."Not enough diskspace or memory"

Is it possible to have the value in a text box be set automatically based on the value in another textbox?For example, Textbox Gender is Male, so Textbox Reference is Male.
Code:
IFF Me.Gender = "Male" Then
Me.Reference = "Male" And
Me.ID = "ea13-02c"
Else If
Me.Gender = "Female"
Me.Reference = "Female" And
Me.ID = "ea13-01c"
End If

I have a table that has several fields including CallID (autonumber) and SKU (text)
SKU can be anything up to 9 characters, sometimes numeric sometimes alphanumeric. For example: 24300, AA23145, G58d444, 24999, 89332,...
Based on the Count of CallID I can easily get the top20 calls on each SKU. This is the query I use for that:
Code:
SELECT TOP 20 Count(Calls.CallID) AS CountOfCallID, Calls.SKU
FROM Calls
GROUP BY Calls.SKU
HAVING ((Not (Calls.SKU) Is Null))
ORDER BY Count(Calls.CallID) DESC;
The problem is that now I have been asked to create two different lists. One that has the top 20 SKU that range from 24520 and 24599 and another one that does the res tof the SKUs.
Obviously my problem is that the SKU field is text, not numbers so I can't just limit the results in the query by using "Between 24520 and 24500" in the query criteria.

Greetings to all,
How can I change the color for example to red for the last entries in a text box field. Note that I'm using the following code (After Update) to stamp the date, time, and the person who has done the entry.
Dim s As String
Dim ss As String
s = Status.Value & "."
ss = s & " " & crlf$ & "Updated by: " & Assigned.Value & crlf$ & ". on " & Now
End If
End Sub
I need only the newer entries or update in the text field to be in red and the upper previous entries in the same filed change back to black whenenver newer updates occurs.
I appreciate your help as always.
:)

Hi,
I have a DB where I want text entry of the primary key to adhere to a certain format.
I'm already using a mask of >LL000000 to force two capital letter and 6 numbers.
Is there any way I can force extra restrictions, by making for example the first 3 characters to have to be AB1, thus making every entry follow format:
AB1<number><number><number><number><number>
(FYI: Access 2003)

I know how to make a text box entry "required" such that one cannot exit a record until a value is entered but cannot figure out how to make it required only if another field on the form has an entry. None of the form events seem to support that when focus moves to another record as far as I can tell. What I want to do is display an error message if the condition is not met on exiting a record but to also remain on (or go back to) that record so the required text box entry can then be made.

I have a simple data entry form with drop down facilities on 2 fields. One of these fields incorporates a drop down list from a table but there are occasions when I wish to make a free text entry for the single record, but do not wish to add it to the drop down list.
I have tried to achieve this with a Combo Box but without success, although I am sure that I have read that it is possible.

Dear All:
Thank you for all you help with the above title. Your suggestions were all implemented.
Code:
Private Sub GPA_AfterUpdate()
If DIVISION = GRADUATE Then 'Honors field is empty
HONORS = ""
End If
If UNDERGRADUATE = True Then 'Apply appropriate honors
End If
If GPA < 3.2 Then
HONORS = ""
ElseIf GPA >= 3.2 And GPA < 3.5 Then
HONORS = "CUM LAUDE"
ElseIf GPA >= 3.5 And GPA < 3.8 Then
HONORS = "MAGNA CUM LAUDE"
ElseIf GPA >= 3.8 Then
HONORS = "SUMMA CUM LAUDE"
End If
End Sub
Here is the issue: Form created with with a combo box called "DIVISION."The choices of the combo box are "GRADUATE" AND "UNDERGRADUATE." There is a text box called "GPA", where a gpa is entered. then, there is an "Honors" field. When a gpa is entered, the honors box returns the appropriate message.
When graduate is selected from the combobox, the honors box should be empty. (That part does not work.) When undergraduate is selected from the combo box, it works.
Please help,
Dion

I have a database that makes use of standing orders. That means that if a client has a standing order to receive products during for example 4 time as year (quartely at the end of the month). to automate the new entry by copying an old entry in the database.
Let's say I have a client where we will have to send a product at the end of June, it will look at a field where the next send date is, and when it reaches 2 weeks for that date, to create a new entry in the database based on that entry. This way, it will pop-up in our open cases and we are aware of it and also will be visible in our report.

Newbie Access user here, with what I hope is a fairly easy task--
I have a form which contains fields for info about clients and a subform which has only one field for a corresponding video tape number. Is there any way to limit the record for this subform to one single entry, so that when I hit Tab after entering the single number, the second record in the subform will not appear, but rather I can jump to the next record in the main form?
If not, then can I just tab through the main form, into the sub form and then onto the next record? Is there a shortcut to create the next record other than having to manually mouse click the next record arrow at the bottom of the form?

I have a form with four combo boxes on it, the four boxes all open the same form and return a record based on the selection from a different column from the same query.
To make it work smoothly I think I need to make it so it is only possible to enter data in one combo box at a time. I could also do with some error handling.
