Hello everyone,
I have a query that runs from the main form when the command button is clicked. It displays the results in datasheet view. I want the user to double click a specific record and jump to that specific record in the main form. How do I do this? Sorry, if this is a dumb question. Please help, my boss is breathing down my neck. :eek: The main form is called Contracts. Each record has a unique ID.
Thanks,
Jason

I have a main form "frmDriverNoticeRecord" with 2 subforms, "frmSubDriverNotice" and "frmSubVehicleRecord"..The main form uses "IncidentID" as the PK. Each form stores data in its own table. The tables are related via IncidentID and there is a 1-many relationship between tblIncident (main) and tblDN (sub) and tblVehicle (sub).
I have a form "frmIncidentLog" displaying records in a table view with a few fields for quick reference and to allow selection of a single record for detailed viewing. I created a command button with the intent to open the "frmDriverNoticeRecord" at the current record. The main form and child link fields appear to be linked correctly; i.e. IncidentID on all three. If I open the form manually it opens and I can use it and search and filter as I want. If I try to open it via the command button It opens a small window asking for the IncidenID, when I enter theIncidentID number, it opens the form to the first record every time.Here is the code:
Private Sub comOpenDR_Click()
Dim frmName As String
Dim recID As String
frmName = "frmDriverNoticeRecord"
recID = "[IncidentID]=" & Me![IncidentID]
DoCmd.OpenForm frmName, , , recID
End Sub
I tried running the the DoCmd.OpenForm command directly from the button using the where condition (in various manners) with the same results.

I have VBA code for a Print Preview button on the main form that previews the current record in a separate Report using this code:
Code:
Private Sub cmdPrintRecord_Click()
Dim strWhere As String
If Me.Dirty Then 'Save any edits.
Me.Dirty = False
End If
[code]....
I use this Print Preview code on a Button in the Form Header. The Main form lists head of household information. I also have a tabbed control with three tabs that have SubForms for Address, Children and Contact details. The problem I have is that if any of the subforms are left blank I get a Run-Time Error '3021': No Current Record. If I Debug (press the button), it takes me straight to this line:
Code:
varAge = DateDiff("yyyy", varBirthDate, Now)
highlighted in Yellow.Anyone on my database must have an address, should have contact details and could have children. If any one of these is blank then the print preview will not work.I would like to know how to stop this error happening for blank records in my subforms.

we have gotten in to a routine of copying, pasting and bastardizing old databases instead of creating new ones from scratch - and we've had a problem recently where we've started off with one master database back in 2011, which has then been the base for practically every single major DB we've created ever since.So this month we've copied and pasted (again) and started adding new features to what's already there, and the thing has corrupted. I've copied and pasted the same version three times and added all the new bits, and the same thing has happened every time.
So this time I've copied and pasted and tried my best to clean up, get rid of the dead weight and (where necessary) create completely new objects, split into FE and BE versions etc, and I've reduced the overall weight of the DB by about 50%.Due to time constraints I now need to crack on and get this thing working again and, for the most part, it does - but now I'm having trouble carrying the filter over from the OnClick Event of a form button to the next form it's opening.
We're using the DB to record attendees at an Event we're running later in the year. This is the code that I'm running from the OnClick Event of the button on Form1:
Code:
Private Sub btnBkg_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_btnBkg_Click
Dim stDocName, vFilt As String
Dim vBkgRef As Long
Dim vContactID As Long
[code]....
You can see I've tried to use vFilt instead of the actual code for frmBooking's Where Condition, but for some reason it does not carry over to the form whichever way I try - when I open the immediate window and type ?vFilt it returns a blank entry. Not sure how to show the 'Where Condition' in the Immediate Window?Before Update, Open and Activate of frmBooking, but I'm hoping that the problem lies with what I've posted up here, as I don't want to get into posting the frmBooking code...
It may be worth noting that the button resides in the Header of a continuous form, with conditional formatting that changes the button caption depending on whether there is a value in the BkgRef text box of the record that has the focus.

Hi,
I am wondering whether it is possible to trigger the run of a macro when a form window is closed using the close button in the top right of a standard window?
If not, then is it possible to display a form in a window without the minimize, restore and close buttons?
I am currently using a setup whereby I have a button to close a form, and when clicked a macro is executed. However, the user could just as easily close the form using the close button of the window and the updates would not be performed.
Thanks in advance

I have a form which has been in use for some time now, and works extremely well for all users; as part of a recent update to that form, I added a few events to various controls; most of them are message box prompts to remind the user to do something, but one is automatic entry of text into a memo field when another field is updated, and it is really this last one that is causing an issue.
There is a command button on the form which has an embedded macro, created using the wizard - it is probably the last, or one of the last few buttons that have a macro as opposed to VBA.
Essentially, when this button is clicked, I would like a duplicate of the current record to be made (thus giving it an Autonumber ID of its own), and if possible I would like this to be done without triggering any of the after update events on the form. Is there a way to disable these events and copy a record in its entirety, re-enabling the events at the end?

I have a database with a Main Menu Form, containing a Button that loads my main data entry form. When the Button is Clicked portions of the data entry form that is loading shows through the Main Form Background (e.g. portions of the navigation bars, and portions of the boarder on the form that is loading.)

I have a subform which makes a change to a field on the main form. When focus is returned to the main form, the BeforeUpdate and AfterUpdate events fire. Why? I thought from the form's perspective, the subform is just another control.
BTW, I get the same behavior if I modify the field from within the Exit event of the subform control.
In either case, the main form's Dirty event is NOT triggered.

I have a very large Access application and use a hidden "main switchboard" to store data such as the current customer ID. Prior to the advent of tempvars, I embedded a key control into many query's underlying combo boxes, list boxes and forms criteria:
"Forms![main switchboard]![currentcustomerid].
The problem arises when the user quits the application on with forms using this in their underlying query(ies). As far as I can tell, the application closes forms in the order in which they were opened, so the "main switchboard" closes first. Then, for some reason, the current form has a requery and the user is presented with a prompt to enter the parameter "forms![main switchboard]![currentcustomerid]. I tested and found I could replace the criteria reference to a tempvar to "fix" the problem. I wonder if there would be a way to open every query in design view and do a search and replace on the criteria statement.

What I really need is for when the form opens, it looks at todays date, then matches current user and then goes to that record for today, if no current user there, then will goto new record..
i know, sounds complicated, and probably is really easy, but my heads not with it today, as about to get drunk as its my 40th, and got people ringing and texting and still trying to get this done....
I've included a copy of this database, named Timecards..

Access front end, SQL Server backend.
----
I have a continuous subform (part of a tab control on a main form) whose name and sourceobject are both "sbfCannulae". There are about 10 fields on the subform, and all are bound to fields in a table. The primary key of this table must be generated by combining two other fields, which must happen just before the record is saved. (I know calculated data should not usually be saved in tables, but trust me. In this case it is necessary.)
Right now the user COULD enter data into the primary key-bound textbox, but since the user is me, I make sure not to do that.
When I enter data into all fields except the primary key, I get an error because the primary key cannot contains nulls...of course.
I use the following code to tell me when an event has been triggered.
Code associated with sbfCannulae:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub Form_Activate()
MsgBox "cann activate"
End Sub
Private Sub Form_BeforeInsert(Cancel As Integer)
MsgBox "cann before insert"
End Sub
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
MsgBox "cann before update"
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Current()
MsgBox "cann current"
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Dirty(Cancel As Integer)
MsgBox "cann dirty"
End Sub
When I enter data into a new record, the Dirty event is triggered, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to trigger any of the other events. No combination of values and nulls in any fields, clicking in other tabs, clicking to other records, or using the navigation buttons will ever trigger any events but Dirty.
The only msgbox I ever get is the one giving delivering the SQL error about the primary keys not taking null values.
What am I doing wrong?

Hello one and all
It may seem a rather simple question, though it continues to confound me -and I have searched to no avail :D
How do you trigger an event depending on what button is pressed on a msgbox?
For example, using a vbYesNo msgbox on a form, how can I assign events to either the Yes or the No option? Say, if "Yes" is clicked the focus would be set to a control on the form, and if "No" is clicked access would close down.
Any ideas?
I've currently got on the on click event of a command button (the bit in italics is fine, the bit in bold is not working!):-
Private Sub Command3_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command3_Click
Dim stDocName As String
MsgBox "Please select where you wish to save the exported file", vbOKOnly, "Save To Location"
stDocName = Month.Value
DoCmd.OutputTo acTable, stDocName, acFormatXLS
MsgBox "Do you want to select another History Extract?", vbYesNo, "Do you wish to continue?"
If intresponse = vbNo Then
DoCmd.Close
Else
Month.SetFocus
End If
Exit_Command3_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Command3_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command3_Click
End Sub
But whether Yes or No is selected, the focus returns to the current form.
Cheers for any ideas

I have a form in my database that opens by default. I want to trigger a yes/no (yes would run a query, no would end) popup based on the value of a field in a table or query (i.e. if "now" is fifteen days past date in the table/query).
Any help would be most appreciated.

As above, I've noticed that it will only trigger if there are no textboxes on the form with a higher tab index than the control the keyascii is set for. Any ideas why, or what I'm doing wrong?
I've found this a lot and never bothered trying to find a solution till now. :p

I have a combo box in a form which simply pulls a text field from a single table - approximately 100 values to choose from. On the After Update Event, there is a basic "If null this, else that" VBA which just hides a subform if the value is null. This works fine, except there are a handful of values (I've found at least 6) that when chosen, trigger the NULL portion of the code! All the values are very similar, so I don't know what the problem is - for example, the value "D-11" works, but neither "D-10" nor "D-12" does.

I have the below VBA in a from for it to filter the records below based on the criteria:
Private Sub Search_Click()
Dim strWhere As String
strWhere = IIf(Len(Me.AssignedTo & "") <> 0, "([AssignedTo] Like ""*" & Me.AssignedTo & "*"") AND", "") & _
IIf(Len(Me.OpenedBy & "") <> 0, "([OpenedBy] Like ""*" & Me.OpenedBy & "*"") AND", "") & _
IIf(Len(Me.Status & "") <> 0, "([Status] Like ""*" & Me.Status & "*"") AND", "") & _
[Code] ....
When I click the search button nothing happens, is there something wrong with my code??

I will have a PC and a number of scanners in a production line. I will need at least 15-20 scanners and would like to plan for more if needed. When an operator clicks on a button I would like to have each of the scanners triggered and return the value. They can be done in turn or all at once (preferred for speed). I need to know which value came from each scanner. I would then compare the barcode read at each station versus what is supposed to be at that station and either pass or fail.

On the form: User enters first name, then last name. Upon updating the last name field, I would like another form to pop-up and display all the people with that same first name and last name that the user just entered.
On the pop-up form: All of the matching first names/last names are listed with a button control beside each record that says 'Select'. The user clicks the select button beside the record he/she wants. This pop-up form closes and all of the data from this selected record is now showing on the original form.
So far, I have a query/form that pops up only showing the matching first/last names. I'm having a hard time getting my original form to auto-populate with that record that the user selects on the pop-up.
(Also my main form is actually a sub-sub form - so in my trials I could've been massacring my syntax trying to point to it.)

I have one table containing name of restaurant with its address etc. Then i created another table to list out the restaurant workers names and details. Just as an example,
Table:Restaurant
Restaurant name
Address line 1
Address line 2
Restaurant #
Website
Table:StaffContact
Staff Role
Name
speciality
email
phone
I have the main form that has all the restaurant details only. And i have another form containing the Staff information. Please note the two table have a relation and it works well.
Now to make it user friendly(basically easier for the lazy ones), I dragged the staff contact form on to my main form and displayed it as a datasheet(basically a sub form).
Now, my boss does not want users to add/delete on this sub form(datasheet). So,he wants me to create buttons to open new record of staff for each restaurant(new form)
My issue is with opening a new record to enter a new person to the staff list and give them a role as well in form view.The new form has
So i ran a Macro, with open form with Where condition
Code:
[Staffcontact]![Rest Name]=[Forms]![MainForm]![RestaurantName]
But, it does not work .

Now, to give a note on how had the sub form had been created is firstly taking a clone of the "Payments" table and using it as a datasheet, and then create a sub form in the form, it works fine

I have a main form (tsTimeSheetMain) which contains a sub form (tsTimeSheetDataNewSub) in data sheet view. When I click off one row onto another row in the sub form, it triggers this code:
Forms!tsTimeSheetMain!ProjectMonSum.Requery
i.e. it tries to requery the ProjectMonSum field (on the main form) which is a dsum calculated field. This works fine and updates the ProjectMonSum field (which dsums values from the same datasource as the subform.
However, this seems to put the cursor back to the top left field in the subform (datasheet view), rather than leave it in the field I click on (in the subform).
Why is this happening and what is a decent workaround this issue? I just want to update the calculated dsum field each time you update values in the subform.

My main form consists of two fields.
When the user clicks tab 2 (subform 2) or tab 3 (subform 3) the main fields should hide
I tried to achieve this by using the on click event at the tabbed forms. I referenced the two main fields and used the visible property followed by a form requery. It didn't work.
thanks in advance

I'm not sure how to search on this, even in the advanced search. If this has been answered, could you point me in the right direction?
I have a main form AddNewCompany (the infamous tab control that now works - thanks to your combined efforts). On it I have a command button that pops up a form of continuous forms with all the companies in the table (the query calls the CompanyID and CompanyName fields only). I have attached an image of the interface.
This means the user can see if the company already exists and doesn't enter it again. (I'm sure there are more effecient ways of doing this, but this is simple and it works. I also know key fields should be autonumbers instead of text, but I have reasons for doing it this way).
What I would like to be able to do is click on the CompanyID field and have the companies information show up in the main form.
