Make The Subform Required In The Master Form

Mar 6, 2006

Hi,

I have 2 forms, a master and a subform.
In the subform form there are some required fields. In the table behind the subform I choose the property of these fields to be required.
but in the master form, when I start enter the information I can go to the next record without even touching the subform.

How Can I make the subform required in the master form?

Regards,
CS.

Control Subform Textbox From Master Form Checkbox?

Nov 16, 2014

My bound master form has bound subform in it and both of them has linked fields. In the master form i've placed a checkbox which if unchacked will lock and disable a textbox in the SUBFORM, and if checked will enable and unlock the textbox and fill it with a calculation result, which will then be passed on to the underlying table.

Now, suppose in the master form (named X), i have A (checkbox) and B (textbox with numeric value) and in the subform (named Y), i have C & D (both textboxes with numeric values). Hence if A is checked, I'd like D to return the result of - "B*C". Or else D will remain locked and disabled.

Tab Style Master Form - Navigation Buttons For Each Subform Within Form

Jan 26, 2015

I have created a master form, which is a tab style. I have five additional forms that I want to use as sub-forms within each tab. I also want to include master navigation buttons that will work for each sub-form in unison. In other words if I navigate to record 10 on tab 1 and switch to tab 2, I want the new tab to show the information related to record 10. It would appear that I need to link them together in some fashion.

Forms :: Subform To Get Values From Main Form Into Master Table

Jul 15, 2013

I have a form, a subform and a master unique table. I need the unique table to updated in the following manner: Form has certain fields that need to be assigned to every record created in the subform[id] and [info1] Subform has a unique [caseid], and contains further [info2] but needs to be bound into [id] in the main form. Example of the master unique table:

id info1 caseid info2
1 aaa 1001 asd
1 aaa 1002 dfg
2 bbb 1003 fff
3 ccc 1004 ffg
3 ccc 1005 ggh

I've managed to accomplish this with a linked table&subform structure, but the master unique table looks like crap because it collapses the subform values into sub-records in the master table when the [id] is similar. The data is in the rigth place, i just want it not to be collapsed/expanded, but every unique recors shows in the table in the regular format

Subform In A Form Doesn Show Controls When Link Child And Master Fields Derfined

Jun 13, 2005

Hello,

I have a form and a subform in MS Access 2003. I have made some changes to database structure, so I decided to change the subform also. When I changed the Link child and link master fields, the controls of the subdatasheet dissapear- they show only in design view. If I clear the contents of Link child and link master fields they appear again, but the records are not binded.
Is there a setting on the parent form that also has to be changed, to make the new binding?

Thanks,
Aleksander

Forms :: How To Make A Text Box Entry Required

Nov 27, 2014

I know how to make a text box entry "required" such that one cannot exit a record until a value is entered but cannot figure out how to make it required only if another field on the form has an entry. None of the form events seem to support that when focus moves to another record as far as I can tell. What I want to do is display an error message if the condition is not met on exiting a record but to also remain on (or go back to) that record so the required text box entry can then be made.

Forms :: Make Command Button Override Required Fields Focus?

Sep 18, 2014

I am using code like this to give warning messages and pass on focus to boxes only when things are selected.

Private Sub TextBox2_Exit(Cancel As Integer)
If IsNull(Me.TextBox2) Then
MsgBox "TextBox2 cannot be left blank"
Cancel = True
Else
ComboBox1.SetFocus
End If
End Sub

I do this for a series of required fields in order.

However, I also want a command button that is 'Exit without Saving' that should be clickable at any time, but of course when focus is controlled in my required fields sequence, it can't be clicked. How can I separate this button?

Modules & VBA :: GoToRecord Moves In Subform Not Master?

On a Single Form with a sub-form I have set up the typical navigation buttons using the DoCmd.GoToRecord, ,acx where x = Next, Previous.

These navigate through the sub form records. I only want to navigate through the master records.

Extensive searching did not turn up the answer. There are many articles on moving through the sub-fom but nothing about just the master.

How To Make Autocomplete Form With Editable Subform Underneath

Apr 18, 2012

I am making a library database which would be used in a school. I need to make a form which allows me to type in the persons id number then the persons profile will come up automatically then underneath there will be the persons book loans in a subform which i dont know how to do ...

So the top bit will have the persons details like personid, surname, first name, tutor group and then below there would b a subform with fields in from two different tables like from the book table there will be author surname, author firstname, bookname then from the loan table there will be the date the book was loaned field

The subform would also have to let me edit it so that i can add new loans or remove loans which i also dont know how to do but i was thinking if i had to add new records of the book would the subform have to autocomplete too? to save time typing all the details of the book

so so far i have made the tables added some test data and made relationships between the tables

a person can have many loans
a book can have one loan

I think there is something to do with queries to make this whole thing work but I am totally lost what i have to do, I've been reading some forum posts which are similar about autocomplete forms which i have done but it wont work when i do it with the problem I have.

Forms :: Navigation Combobox Ignoring Subform Master-child Relationship?

Jun 17, 2015

I have a form, frmProjects, with a continuous subform, sfrPeopleOnThisProject. They have a master-child relationship. The form shows one Project record at a time, while the subform shows all the People records for that project. This works as expected - the correct records show up in the subform as you move through the form records.

To make it easier to glance through the list of subform records (as they can sometimes be quite long), I've added a navigation combobox to the header of the subform. If I understand correctly, as the combobox is within the subform, it should obey the master-child relationship: it should only show the subform records associated with the main form's current record. It does not. Instead, the combo box collects *all* of the records from the table that the subform is based on. So, choose the record for Project 1 in the main form. Up pops the 2 people on Project 1, but the combo box lists both the 2 people on Project 1 and the 3 people on Project 2.

The row source for the subform combo box is:

SELECT tblPersonOnProject.PersonOnProjectID, tblPerson.Fullname FROM tblPersonOnProject INNER JOIN tblPerson ON tblPersonOnProject.PersonFK=tblPerson.PersonID ORDER BY Fullname;

I can make the combo box perform as required by adding "WHERE Project=Forms!frmProject!ProjectID" to the row source and placing a hidden textbox on the main form for ProjectID (the autogenerated primary key) to sit. Have I misunderstood the point of the master-child relationship in the subform? This hidden textbox thing can't be correct.

Forms :: How To Make Form Refresh After Deleting A Record In Subform

Sep 3, 2014

I have been trying to figure out how to make a form refresh after deleting a record in a subform. The code in the combo box that populates the subform works fine. If you select the "Action" of "sign" from the unbound combo box above the subform, it places "Sign" in the the subform and then makes a checkbox on the main form [WillTake] = True.

But when I delete the record by right clicking on the entry, the focus is sent back to the main form so I can refresh the form and thus update the [WillTake] checkbox. I have tried just about everything. I can get the focus to a field on the form, but I cannot figure out how to refresh or requery the form.

The code to transfer focus is on the OnDelete of the subform.

I have included a watered down version of the DB.

Forms :: Make Certain User Enter Records On Subform Before Attempting To Save Main Form

Dec 4, 2014

How can I make certain my user enters records on a subform before attempting to save the main form? Right now they can completely ignore the subform before saving the record. The Main form has business address, etc. on it. the subform is bound to a join table that lists the multiple categories, subcategories and sector the business is listed in for a directory.

I already have my fields set to required at the table level in the join table, and have some existing VBA in both my subform (to update edited date) and my form (to validate empty records where a certain condition is met) but that's not the issue...

How do I focus the user to enter a record on the subform to the point where they are forced to enter something and complete the subform before the record is updated.

Required Fields And Subform Entry Order

Jun 23, 2005

Hi,

I have created a form with 3 subforms. This form is split in to 3 parts on a 3-page tab control.

I want the user to enter data in the order below. All fields are required. My problem is that Access97 wants all fields of the main form to be completed in the order set by the table. ie. before I fill in a sub form. I have tried setting the form tab order property but it is being overridden.

First page:
a) Complete first 6 fields of main form
b) Complete subform 1
c) Complete subform 2
Second page:
d) Complete 5th field of main form
e) Complete subform 3
f) Complete 6th field of main form
Third page
g) Complete three fields of main form

Any help appreciated,
Seth

Combobox Selection In Subform Not Working As Required - HELP (please :-) )

Apr 20, 2005

I have an orders subform displaying the line items in an order.

I have two combo boxes in the subform that allow the user to select 'Product catagory' and 'Product'. To enter a product the user must first selct a product catagory which filters the products available for selection. If the exact product is not listed then on option to 'Add new item' must be offered

The problem:
At the moment the combo boxes show the same product catagory on every line of the order, even though each line is different and the second combo box is empty

How do I:
1. make the combo box only display the entry for the line it is on

2. force it to filter the available entries for the second combo box

3. offer an option in the second combo to 'add new item' (if the users selects this then Access should open the products entry form and pass the vale of 'Product catagory' from that line as a parameter to preset the form.

other info:
The data for the subform is generated by a query on 3 seperate tables all linked by relationships.
(tblProductCatagory, tblProducts, tblOrders)

The combo boxes are unbound

Thx.
Kev.

Forms :: Can't Get Subform To Be A Required Field To Be Filled In

Jul 16, 2015

I haven't programmed using Access in about 10 years and seem to have lost all knowledge of it.I'm struggling to make a really simple application. I need to keep track of which serial number is attached to which order. All I want is for me to be able to scan a barcode (or manually type the numbers) into a 'packschein' (packing list) and then to scan all the barcodes of the products' serial numbers relating to this packing list. Then preferably simply press the enter button or even better scan a barcode which launches the code to save the new entry.

So a packing list can have 1 or more serial numbers. However, the way I've set it up, for some reason it requires a packschein number (good), but then does not require a serial number. I have this feeling I messed up with the way the tables are meant to be linking to one another.

Forms :: Subform Not Filling Required Info Into Table

Mar 15, 2013

I have a database which has been in production for quite a few years, it even made the swap from .mdb and .accdb without losing any of the functionality. Well I just had to export from access to new access to start a new file for one of our projects and now one of the subforms is not adding information into the table. The way the subform functions is it feeds information to the table Lease Tracts, at the same time it has another table Xrf Property Tracts Leases (I didn't pick the name and it drives me nuts too!)

When a user starts to add information into the subform the table lease tracts generates an auto number "tracref" which it adds onto the line where the user is inputting the rest of their information. The relationship is set as all alike between xrf and lease tracts to input in both tables, well the xrf lease num1 is being filled in by the master/child setting but the lease num1 on the lease tract is the only field not autofilling.

How To Set Up This Kind Of Master And Sub Form?

Jun 14, 2005

There are total three tables tblInternal, tblExternal, tblCourses. Table
tblInternal and tblCourses is one to many relationship by reference foreign
key InternalID from tblCourses to tblInternal. If I just use these two table
to set up Master form and subform in ACCESS, you can in subform Field Linker
window of subform property Data tab select primary and foreign key to
generate link between Master and subform. So if you select user name from
tblInternal in Master form ComboBox, you can see the detailed information the
user relates to.

Same relation between tblExternal and tblCourses.

Now I want to merger tblInternal, tblExternal to list user name in ComboBox
by Union statement. But in SubForm Field Linked window I just see one primary
key from one of these two tables instead of two primary keys from each table.

How to solve this issue?
