Merging 2 Queries Of Same Data To Get Lowest Price And Matching Items
Sep 4, 2006
I must admit I am a "newby" to Access but I have bought my Access 2000 bible, as I am running Access 2000, and attempted to create my desired database. I have linked to 2 tables that I download on a daily basis. This is my inventory from two different suppliers. I then have created two queries that filters each of these files to only show positive quantity items, filters out item specifics, etc.
What I want to do is join the 2 queries with their data already filtered. Both of the files from 2 different suppliers contain some of the same data. Once joined if there is an item that is the same I want to delete the higher cost item and only show the lower cost item, I also want to show the rest of the items that do not match. It is easy to identify the same items as every item contains a 12 digit identifier called a upc.
I can create a UNION ALL query that shows every item from the two queries. However, I am unsure as to how I go about deleting the higher cost item and only showing the lower cost item if the item is the same.
On a side note after I get the results desired I will then be createing an append to query and append all this information to another file that is then uploaded to another system.
I will try to attach some sample data that I am using from the two queries I want to join, this data is only a sample of a much bigger file.
Thank you and any and all comments or suggestions is much appreciated.
Any way to filter the average price of of a Product within the last 5 occurences (Line Items). It would pull a week back so WHERE: Between Now()-7 and Now(). Example:
I've a company database with everyone's software license but it doesn't have their employee ID number. I have another database with everyone's ID Number and I need to merge the two, How ever the problem is the names aren't exactly the same in both data bases. Some have small changes like
John, Sargent M :: John, Sargent M. Samantha, Williams Anne :: Samantha, Williams A.
It's all the people with more than 2 names entered that his problem happens the most and I was wondering how to solve this in access?
I have a table called Books, in that table there is 4 columns ChapterName, Auther, ITEM, Price.
Each book has a item number, and each book has a few records with the same data, just the first column is different where its the ChapterName, each book has a price, but only once, meaning in the first record of each book it will be a price in the column price
Now I want a Query where i can get which book dont have a price at all, and which book has more than once a price, how can i do that?
I have a table that holds course information for students. I have a parameter query linked to this prompting the user to enter a course code thus displaying all students who have that course. However, I would like to do the opposite i.e prompt the user to enter a course code and then the result to be a list of students who do not have that course.
I am managing a tool room and one of my tasks is to update a chit board where people sign out their tools. I have managed to make a query to find New Employees and one to find Terminated Employees. I have also made a query to find the matching employees between these two queries.
My problem is that we employ both contractors and direct employees. When a contractor is hired on directly, their name shows up in both the New list and the Terminated list. What I want to do is have a separate query that shows contractors who went direct and not have these employees show up in the other 2 queries.
Both queries are unmatched query that compare the "Current Chit Board" table to the "Weekly Roster Check" table. The first query called "New Employees" displays the data from the "Weekly Roster Check" table where Employee Number from "Current Chit Board" Is Null. The second query called "Terminated Employees" is the exact oposite. The third query I have is called "Contract to Direct" compares the "New Employees" query to the "Terminated Employees" Query with a "fields from both tables are equal" join type. The problem is when I try to do an unmatched between either the New or Terminated Emplyees queries and the Contract to Direct query, I get a Circular Reference warning and it doesn't execute.
I am linking to an SQL database that is designed in such a way that the problem description is recorded in multiple records. See a simplified example below. I want to run a query that will merge the information in the PROBLEM_DESCRIPTION and return only one record for PROB_ID 55678.
PROB_ID ORIGINATOR DATE PROBLEM_DESCRIPTION 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 While cleaning my computer, I noticed 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 the screen was cracked. I called 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 the IT department and they said I had 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 to write a work order. However it 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 was rejected without reason.
Which comes to £45.74, but the actually price should be £45.72. Its some how rounding up. I think. My current unit price is £7.62 however Access seems to think it is £7.6241.
the member names are duplicated up to 6 times each depending on how many months from october - march they have been members.
The excellspreadsheet looks like this
Member name Member number October care level November care.... triscuit83 1234 1 Triscuit83 1234 1
Is there a way in access I could make triscuit 83 show up once and have all the care levels stay on the same line.
Please let me know if there are any clarifications needed. I need help hardcore
****edit****** the example doesnt show up formated right basically 1 will be in the october column the first time and a 1 will be in the november column the second line.
I have frequented this board on several occasions, and have used it extensively to help me on my project. But I am at a situation that I cannot seem to find a proper solution for, and feel like I need to solicit some input from more experienced people.
Problem: What I want to do is create a form utilizing two queries that will not only display the shoes and comments, but as I tab from record to record (each record a different shoe), the form will also display the total minutes for the shoe. (frmShoes in the database shows what I ultimately want)
Background: I am creating a database to track my exercise routine and jogging times, along with other variables. I have three tables (I deleted all the other extraneous garbage to alleviate any potential for confusion):
tblRunSession Run Session ID pk Shoes ID -one-to-many w/tblLaps- -one-to-one w/tblShoes-
tblLaps Laps ID pk Lap Number Lap Time Run Session ID fk
tblShoes Shoe ID pk Shoe Name Comments
I want to use a form built off tblRunSession to enter a new day of running. On the form I would enter multiple laps, and minutes each lap was completed, along with the shoes (only one pair used per day) I wore that day. I accomplished the input utilizing tblLaps as a subform to tblRunSession.
I tried creating two queries: one (Query 1) from tblshoes, and the other (Query 2) from tblRunSession and tblLaps. I summed the individual lap times in Query 2 for each shoe. But when I try to create a third query based on Queries 1 and 2, it gets all messed up and confusing. I tried to use dlookup, but I quickly found that was beyond my knowledge level. I think some of the problem Im experiencing (besides my limited brain capacity) is the fact that I am trying to use three tables to pull data from, and trying to make it all mesh. Im sure it can be done, but Im at a loss.
I attached what I have been working on in case anyone wants to look at it and set me straight. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas anyone has to offer.
I atrying to make a query that shows the price for a product, based on two parameters.
Parameter one is a product code. Parameter two is a date. This date falls between two dates.
I have one list (table) where is product code and invoice date.
The second list (table) I have, contains product code, and price valid from date, and price valid to date columns. This price valid to date is often not filled, and the price I still valid as we speak. If the date is filled there is often a new entry with an updated price. But sometimes, even if there is a new entry in the table, the date 'valid to date' is sometimes also not filled.
I would like Access to show me the valid price for the specific product. What criteria should I give in the macro, in order that Access shows what I want?
For illustration purposes, a small overview of my table:
Product, invoice date, price according to price list AAAA, 02.05.2012, ???? AAAA, 01.08.2012, ???? BBBB, 10.06.2013, ???? AAAA, 31.10.2013, ???? AAAA, 16.11.2013, ????
If you happen to know how this search can be performed in Excel, I am of course also happy to read that. (But my index, or Vlookup functions, give only the first possible result in the table. As I do not know how to give in the date parameter.)
I have two seperate files with the same type of data. Each file is sorted into multiple batches. The first file is a current data base still being used that was created in an older version of access. The new database has some records, but is in a newer version of access. I need to know how to copy the records from the currently used but older version of access into the new database. I need for the records to be active to run reports. Sorry if its a basic question. New job.
So i'm not sure where this post belongs as it may encompass several items. I have an excel sheet where every row has an email address and a product purchased. I've imported it all into access but would like to run a query to find out how many people that bought x purchased y. Or tell me how many people that x did not buy a,b, or c.
Part of the problem is that each record is one product. My data looks like this:
I was able to group some of the data by email address in access but can't figure out a good way to query it. I'm thinking I probably need to merge the data where each unique email address is a record and the products have all the products purchased instead of just one but I really have no clue how to do that.
Is this easily do-able? how would I go about this? Thanks alot!
Hi, I have a db (MS Access 2000) that currently has 37 tables in it, each table holds about 30 rows and 72 columns of data. I need to basically create the entire database again but change all the column names slightly so that they still hold the same information but with different column names, then I need to merge each newly created table into the existing corresponding table.
As there are about 86400 entries I would rather change 2000 odd column names than re-enter all the data again. I would be extremely appreciative if someone could suggest the easiest and quickest way to do this. Many thanks in advance.
1. a sum of payments by individuals 2. a sum of charges of individuals.
I want to combine these queries to create a report that shows the sums for each person of the charges and payments and calculate the balance. However, it is only showing me those individuals that have both a charge sum and a payment sum, while some individuals will only have a charge sum. How do I get those individuals to show and show with a zero payment balance if they are in my charge sum query but not my payment sum query and vice versa (some may have made a prepayment even though they have not been charged yet).
I need to get an average repair price of multiple part numbers with the same root number i.e.
8 each 8TJ124GGN1 4 each 8TJ124GGM1 7 each 8TJ124GGP1
First I used a query to average the repair price of each subset of numbers, and then queried the query to average all the subset prices together.
If I simply use the AVG function in the first query, I can use it again in the second query to get the average price of all the subset price averages. HOWEVER, if I use the expression:
…to get a more accurate average by throwing out the high and low values, I get a:
“…expression too complicated to be evaluated”
when I try to average the averages in the second query using the AVG function.
I don’t know why the expression is “too complicated” since the first query has already completed its computations before the second query begins its AVG function.
SELECT NewMyEstartChild.yordob, NewMyEstartChild.firstname, NewMyEstartChild.surname, NewMyEstartChild.postcode FROM NewMyEstartChild INNER JOIN For2003 ON (NewMyEstartChild.postcode = For2003.POSTCODE) AND (NewMyEstartChild.yordob = For2003.MyDOB);
but It's giving me more data so to minimise data I was thinking to add another filed. which is Firstname field. but some children's name are spell incorrectly.
How can I match data with first letter only ? I have tries following query but it doesn't work. Please help!!!!!!!!
SELECT NewMyEstartChild.yordob, NewMyEstartChild.firstname, NewMyEstartChild.surname, NewMyEstartChild.postcode FROM NewMyEstartChild INNER JOIN For2003 ON (NewMyEstartChild.postcode = For2003.POSTCODE) AND (NewMyEstartChild.yordob = For2003.MyDOB) AND (NewMyEstartChild.Firstname = For2003.Firstname);
In last part of this query (NewMyEstartChild.Firstname = For2003.Firstname); How can I get the name of children whose firstname's letter is similar.
I have a large table with about (8000+) records and a smaller table (2000+) records. The large table has been exported from an ACT! database. The smaller table has 4 fields that i need to add to the larger table, and then i need to import the updated records back into the Act! database.
I created a simple select query and matched the tables with the only 2 criteria that match the 2 tables, this was "Company" and "PostCode".
This should have been ok, but instead of updating 2000+ records it only updated 1000. The reason for this is because some of the company names werent an exact match, "company ltd" and "company limited" etc.
If i just linked "postcode" to "postcode" there are quite a few different companies that have the same postcode.
Is there a way of trying to match just the first 5 characters of the company name but leaving the "company" field intact?
I can't get my head around this so I'm looking for some help if possible please, there are two questions, the first is:
When in the query, I want the criteria for the date selection to be a question, ie. "[Week Start Date?]" but I want the actual criteria selection to be from the start date plus 5 days, the only way I've done that so far is to do ">=[From?] and <=[To?]", which uses two questions and I don't seem to be able to do ">=[Week Start Date?] and <=[Week Start Date?]+5" which seems basically correct, but I expect I'm writing it incorrectly (basic access knowledge I'm afraid :( )
The second question (after I've got the 5 day date criteria sorted) is that the query produces a table that shows basically the following:
Name Store Date Visited Tom Bury 18/01/06 Tom Bury 19/01/06 Tom Diss 20/01/06 Dick Thetford 18/01/06 Harry Diss 20/01/06
The query is based on a part week period with the starting date ALWAYS a Monday, so no more than Mon-Sat will appear, I want to put the information into a table or query, so the result ends up as:
Name Store Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Tom Bury 18/01/06 19/01/06 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank' Tom Diss 'Blank' 'Blank' 20/01/06 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank' Dick Thetford 18/01/06 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank' Harry Diss 'Blank' 'Blank' 20/01/06 'Blank' 'Blank' 'Blank'
*Where the blanks are simply left empty, rather than putting in the word 'blank'
Essentially converting the "[From?]" (as stated earlier) or "[Week Start Date?]" to Monday, that date + 1 to Tuesday, etc, BUT putting multiple dates relating to name and store criteria onto one record
Beyond me I'm afraid, any pointers would be seriously appreciated, I expect I'm approaching the problem from the wrong angle.
