General :: Microsoft Access Database Engine Cannot Open Or Write To The File

Jul 2, 2013

I am currently using Access 2010, and have successfully split a database, using the Access wizard. However, whenever a second or third user opens the database - with their front-end database file - they encounter the following message; The Microsoft Access Database engine cannot open or write to the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data.

I have researched the internet and see that it has something to do with network permissions. I have worked with my IT department and this appears to be resolved!

Is there a setting I need to check in the front-end and/or back-end copies of the databases? Why is there no file name in the error message?

Microsoft Access Cannot Open This File

Feb 14, 2007

We have a database on our network server which I cannot open. I get the following error everytime I try to access it.

This file is located outside your or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security problems. To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location.

I think it has to do with a Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 security update. However, I cannot find the update to uninstall. Others can access the database located on the network, but some get a pop-up that allows them to say "no" and access the file. The pop-up has the following message:

Security Warning: Unsafe expressions are not blocked. Do you want to block unsafe expressions?

Can anyone help with this?

This error message appears when trying to open an Access XP database:

"Microsoft Access has detected corruption in this file. To try to repair the
corruption first make a backup copy of the file. Then, on the Tools menu, point
to Database Utilities and click Compact and Repair Database..."

But when you try to do what it suggests, it does not work. Even if you hold down the shift key when opening it, the message appears. Anybody have any ideas?

Adding FTP Upload File Capability To Sweep Function In Microsoft Access

Oct 31, 2007

Hi Folks,

I have created a file sweeping program in Microsoft Access via VBA in a few modules. The program simply reads certain files in certain directories, and determines if, when, and where to copy those files based on certain user inputs.

One of the features I would like to add would be to upload the files that meet that criteria to a conventional FTP server requiring a username and password. However, the last few days of research all tells me that it is not possible to perform FTP functions in Microsoft Access or in VBA.

I am just wondering if that statement is really true? I figure the worse case is that windows has its own version of FTP.exe that you can execute in a DOS window ... would one be able to perhaps create a command line execution via VBA? Any simple ideas or is it not worth the trouble trying to FTP upload some files via Microsoft Access with VBA?

Thank you very much,

Joe

Creating A Microsoft Access Database

May 17, 2005

I'm not too hot at creating a database in Access, so I was wondering if there was anyone out their prepared to help me construct one.

This database is designed to search for property from various locations and from various price ranges, you can also pick the type of property, the amount of bedrooms and have the result in descending or ascending order.

For location just use: Location 1, Location 2, Location 3, and Any
Price Ranges use: 30,000, 50,000, 70,000, 90,000, and 110,000
Type of property please use: houses, flats, and bungalows
Bedrooms use: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5+

Fill in any data you wish, I think this needs to have a query setup?

Thanks for your help

Error Using Shortcut To Open A Database - Can't Find File

Nov 5, 2013

We have a new user who is unable to get into a database. Another user in the same office had no problems.

The other user is using:

"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerNameShareNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb

The new user was not able to access the share at all using ServerNameShareNameSFTP until he changed the path to:

"C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice14MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp"ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb"

Now he can get into the SFTP folder, but when he uses the shortcut, he gets an error stating Microsoft Access couldn't find the file ServerName.ACCT05.us.companyabbreviation.comSha reNameSFTPSFTPWorkgroup.mdw 1" "C:SFTP Database V2.1 FESFTP Database V2.1 FE.mdb" (Note the space and 1)

I created a new shortcut, and I was able to open the db using his target line, even though I can use the shorter one. For the new user, this still generates an error.

HELP!!! Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Invalid SQL Statement Expect

Mar 27, 2007

My main experience is with MySQL and PHP so I'm kindof stumbling around in the dark here. Heres my story:

We recieved a new server and migrating from (Windows Server 2000, IIS 5.0, Access 2000) to (Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0, Access 2003) has been nothing but problems.

I have setup IIS to work with ASP, I've also setup a system DSN. The access file was copied over from the previous server. We're running Access 2003 and now I can't seem to get this ASP script to work.

When I try to upload a file to the script I get this error:

Modules & VBA :: Microsoft Access Linked Tables Dialog Box If Database Move To Another Location

Mar 17, 2014

I have a question that I have a Microsoft Access database (.accdb) front-end/backend split and I want to give the database to my company client. As we have the different path for the backend/frontend linked. I want some code that will popup if the database location is not found and popup with the dialog so the user then select the backend and it would be ready and there is no need to popup each time the database open, it would run once it did not find the last linked path.

Also I have tried the code of Dev Ashish URL.... but unfortunately it would ask everytime to refresh the table links and I only want to run the process of linking tables when the database start and the linked path not found.

Converting From Microsoft Access 2.0 To Microsoft Access 2003

Jul 10, 2006

Hello everyone,

I would like to convert a database, which was made for me, in order to enable it to be used on my current system.

I get the error message below when trying to open the database in Microsoft Access 2003.

The database was made using Microsoft Access 2.0.

Will I need Microsoft Access 2.0 to update/delete the database all the time?

Or can I convert this to be used with Microsoft Access 2003?

I have tried opening the file exclusively and I get the same error.

I have selected Show Help and it advises me to import all the objects from the database into a new database. This can`t be achieved as I can`t open the file to retrieve the contents.

Modules & VBA :: Microsoft Office Can't Find The Field StartDate

Feb 18, 2015

I have a main form that has a combo box (cboCurrentEmployeeName) to select an Employee Name. And then there is a subform within the same form that displays the list of active tasks. The record source for the subform is a query. The query is as follows. Please note that the tables are joined on employee-id and not the employee name.

SELECT TasksEntries.Project, TasksEntries.Task, TasksEntries.StartDate, TasksEntries.Status FROM TasksEntries INNER JOIN (SELECT EmployeeId FROM Employees WHERE Employees.EmployeeName=Forms!frmMainForm!cboCurren tEmployeeName) AS EmpList ON TasksEntries.EmployeeId=Emplist.EmployeeId WHERE TasksEntries.Status<>'COMPLETE';

The names of the fields in the subform are Project, Task, StartDate, Status and these are present in the subform only and not on the main form..I added an after update event on the cboCurrentEmployeeName which is as follows

Private Sub cboCurrentEmployeeName_AfterUpdate()
Me("StartDate").Form.Requery
End Sub

When I select an employee name from the combo box I get a runtime error 2465: Microsoft office can't find the field StartDate referred to in your expression. I get the same error doesn't matter what field I use.

Find Command In Access In One Report To Search Throughout Whole Database

Dec 7, 2014

Is there a way to use the find command in access in one report to search throughout the whole database. For instance, I am designing a database that in a report it shows the number identifier of an item, and the actual detailed information is located in a separate form. What I want it to do is to be able to find the detailed information from a command within the report that only has the number identifier.

Access 200 "could Not Find File" Error

Jul 3, 2007

Hi,

I am using Access 2000 and created a query:

SELECT [tbl_AccountsInCurrentOutline].[CurrentAccounts]
FROM tbl_AccountsInCurrentOutline
WHERE
tbl_AccountsInCurrentOutline.CurrentAccounts NOT in (Select * from tbl_CoAAccounts.CoaAccounts)
AND
tbl_AccountsInCurrentOutline.CurrentAccounts NOT in (Select * from tbl_AccountsWithData)
;

All the tables used in the query are fine and all the field names are fine yet I get the error:

"Could not find file 'C:Documents and SettingsmjineshMyDocuments bl_CoAAccounts.mdb"

Why is Access think that the table tbl_CoAAccounts (used in the query) is an mdb file? If I remove the first condition form the WHERE clause..the query works...I guess itwould be something really silly but its just not clicking !!

Ne help appreciated.

Thanks,
Jinesh

Cannot Update MS Access Database From ASP File

Oct 5, 2005

Can someone tell me how to get that inline frame inside the message for the code so it doesnt take up too much spaces.

I could not get the MS Access database to update from ASP when a user update the moditfied information. When clicking the 'save' button, it suppose to update the changes. Also, the 'delete' button is suppose to delete a record but it doesn't delete. It just reload the page with the original information and no error message is produced. I checked the permission of the database to 'read/write' but didnt seem to have any affect. Then I checked the code to match up to the field name in the database.
