Multiple File Access
Nov 29, 2004
Hello, We are writing an application in access which accepts an order number.
We use the order number to read a non-access db file to retrieve the customer
number - this works fine. We would like to use the customer number to read an
additional file to retrieve the customer name but are unable to make this work.
Can anyone help please?
Additional info: In the access program we are using dlookup to retrieve the customer number from
the non access data base. This is working and the accss field is being populated correctly. We
would like to use this field to read an additional file to retrieve additional data. We seem unable to
string two dlookups together. Is this possible? regards
Private sub order_afterupdate()
accno = dlookup("customer_code", "dbo_firstfile", "order_number= forms! [rsd]![order]")
End sub
This works well, but when we include an additional statement;
name = dlookup ("customer_name", "arrcustomers", "customer_code = forms! [rsd] ! [accno]")
end sub
no data is returned.

I'm having trouble opening up the tools I am developing in Access for multiple users. I split all my databases so the users will only interface with the "Front End" and I just tried saving one as an ACCDE file. I had the ACCDE file open on my machine and asked another person in the office to try opening it (all our files are stored on a network drive, which is already identified as a trusted source).
She got the following error message:
"The database cannot be opened because the VBA project contained in it cannot be read. The database can be opened only if the VBA project is first deleted. Deleting the VBA project removes all code from modules, forms, and reports. You should back up your database before attempting to open the database and delete the VBA project"
How do I fix this? I don't want to publish several Front End Access files since each person in my office will ask me to customize their file and my supervisor wants everyone working off the same file. I thought the point of Access was that multiple users could open the same file and make data modifications. How do I achieve this while retaining all the fun, creative VBA solutions I have developed?

I need to import 15 csv files into access every month. I have location of all those files listed in a table in the same access DB but i'm not sure how to incorporate them in a macro I have written to import one of those files:
Function Macro_TransferCsvFileTo_RatesTradeData()
On Error GoTo Macro_TransferCsvFileTo_RatesData_Err
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, "Import_Spec_tbl_RatesData", "tbl_RatesData", "c:Documents and SettingsaggauraDesktopWIPXMLDB_JOH_FI_2011123 0.csv", True, ""
[Code] ....
where c:Documents and SettingsaggauraDesktopWIPXMLDB_JOH_FI_2011123 0.csv is the file name I want to be replaced by each of the file listed by me in the other access table.

I have a database with three users, only one of whom has editing privileges. As such, I didn't see the need to setup a front end and back end (nor did I know how at the time). Anyway, that's not the issue. The database is saved on a networked computer that all users can access. Unfortunately, when accessing the database in the shared network folder, only the first user can access it. Other users will double click the file and virtually nothing happens.
However, users can instead open Access first, and open the file through the program fine. Why this would be the case and how I can have multiple users open the file from the shared folder?

I am making a database to coordinate the activities of my band (how rock and roll!)...
Is there a way I can somehow host the file remotely, and have users (4 total) access that file through their own computer using access, so they can write, edit, delete records?
We have a db at my work that we use like this, accessing from multiple computers, though this is on a network drive.

hello,
I would like to automate something presently done on a one-by-one basis. Here: a number of text files(containing data) are to be exported into an MS Excel file, with each text file to occupy a different worksheet. Presently, the idea is to use the Data/import external data/import data feature of MS Excel for importing the text files one-by-one into newly created worksheets(within the same workbook).
I would appreciate some advice on how to go about creating a useful MS Access application to achieve the above. I have checked the available Macros in MS Access, but I could not find one to suit my purpose. can anyone pls assist, on how I can get started?

I often create contract using mail merge. I have an access file that I want to use as data source for word file. But it does not automatically.
Please download the attached file !
If there are 1 customer and 1 property, I do not need to do anything. Conversely, if there are many customers and many properties, I take time to manipulate.
Firstly, I open the word file. I have to copy and paste paragraphs that I want. Highlight of the original paragraphs is blue.
Secondly, I click 'Insert Word Field' -> select 'Next Record'.
In short, I wish to use VBA in access file to automatically perform the steps that I have outlined.

I have a button in the form of the current access file. What I want to do is when the user click on the button,
triggered the vba to backup current access file. But since the file is currently open, is this possible? If yes, may I know how to do it with vba?
I have tried two methods but failed:
1) Use copytofile method, but I get permission denied due to file open;
2) Use dbengine.compactdatabase method, but it also has problem if the file is open.

I'm experimenting with MS Access, and I've successfully split an MDB someone created into two files. I can access the database from 2 computers at once using the front end file connecting to a file server which hosts the _be.mdb file.
Could the _be.mdb file theoretically be on a NAS without any computer attached, or is there some runtime or full version of Access that needs to run on the machine with the back end file?

I'm in the process of creating a database to track campaign contributions, and I'm kind of stuck.
I've created tables for the citizens, the candidates, and the contributions to the candidates. Now I'm trying to populate them with an Excel spreadsheet. The problem is I have no clue on how to split the Excel file so the appropriate parts go into each table.
The spreadsheet contains:
Name, address, etc. - This needs to go into the Citizens table
Names of candidates individuals contributed to - This needs to go into the candidates table.
Dollar amounts and dates of contributions - This needs to go into the contributions table.
Each citizen may have made multiple contributions to multiple candidates.
The easy way would be for everything to be in one table, but that would be a bad database design, right? Here's a shortened version of how my tables are designed:
Citizens: Name, contact info, etc. of citizens
Candidates: Name, party affiliation, etc. of candidates
Contributions: Candidate (fk is pk of Candidate table), Citizen (fk is pk of citizen table), contribution date, and contribution amount.
I appreciate the assistance, as I'm getting really frustrated.

I've implemented on a form a Command Button that opens up a dialog box to allow the user to find a photo and once the photo is selected, it stores the location in a text box, (not the photo, just the location). I need to be able to allow multiple photo's to be store in the same text box. That was one of the benefits of using an Attachment data type but based on lots of comments...

In appendix is .mdb file with this thema.
Inside you can find one form with listbox (with multi selecting ability).
I use this code :
Dim strSQL As String
Dim i As Variant
With Me.se1
For Each i In .ItemsSelected
SQL = "DELETE '*' FROM [t1] WHERE [id] = " & .ItemData(i) & " ;"
CurrentDb.Execute (SQL)
Next
End With
Me.se1.Requery
Result is this one :
1) If I delete only one item in list, it is ok. I can do it again and again and it is working fine.
BUT
2) If I delete more items in list at once, it is ok - but if I will try to do it again then there is an error because .ItemData(i) value is Null.

I am using Access 2010 and Excel 2010. I need to have VB script to export the access table 502 records by 38 fields into Multiple Excel workbooks each having multiple tabs. In the Access table each record has two fields: Div and Tab that will be used to name each workbook and each tab (sheet). There are 6 unique "Div"'s to name the 6 workbooks and there are several "Tab" names for each Div (workbook).
Note: These 6 workbooks with multiple tabs were originally imported into Access from one common folder on my desktop by this routine:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim blnHasFieldNames As Boolean, blnEXCEL As Boolean, blnReadOnly As Boolean
Dim lngCount As Long

Excel workbooks would take names from the "Div" field and the tab names would come from the "Tab" field in the Access table. First need to find workbook name (Div - Field) then the look for each sheet name (Tab - Field) to create 1st Excel workbook with all the sheets (Tab) and repeat the process. I think you need to approach of read the Access table one record at a time keying on the "Div" and "Tab" fields in creating each Excel workbook with the associated multiple tabs (sheets) that are written to a common folder.

I would like to know which way is the best way to import excel data from multiple sheets in to multiple tables in access.
For example data from Sheet1 -> Table1, Sheet2->Table2, Sheet3->Table3 etc...
I have tried using this:
Cmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel5, "Table1", "C:Importedfile.xlsx", True, "Sheet1!"
Ironically, data from Sheet2 and Sheet3 seem to be properly imported in to table2 and table3, but some of the data from Sheet1 seems to be missing in Table1 after import.
Any other ways to import the data?

We are a non-profit that does blind mailings for our membership drive. The company who we buy names and addresses from sends us a delimited file that has these fields as the headings
" ID, FULLNAME,COMPANY, ADR1, ADR2, CITY, STATE, ZIP, FIPS"
Once they send out the mailings, people then send in back a remit slip with a contribution that gets scanned through a program that creates a file that gives us these titles
"ALT ID, AMOUNT PAID, RUN DATE, TENDER, FUND, PURPOSE, SOLICITATION, MEMBERSHIP QUESTION, MEMBER TYPE, CONSTITUENT TYPE, SEGMENT"
The "ALT ID" and "ID" are the same in both tables.
I need to find a way to merge the tables and combine the fields that have the same ID # , and then have it create a csv file that reads like this (see below) for only the files of the people that responded so that I can import it into our membership software.
"Alt ID","Title","First Name","Middle Name","Last Name","Suffix","Address1","City","State","ZIP","ct y_code","Amount Paid","Run Date","Tender","Fund","Purpose","Solicitation","Me mbership Question","Member Type","Constituent Type","Segment"

Hi.
Stupid question, but I have Access 97 database with ssn in each record.
I need to create a comma-delimted text file with these ssns.
When I use the export text file with a query that lists each record's ssn, it does not produce comma-delimited file.
How?

Using MS 2007, I have a 200 text files exported each day from another application that has two different types of lines (see below). I would like to import each text file in to a database as a single record.
Text file example (text.txt):
R111 WC 8/21/2012 7:00 Doe, John doej 10110110
First Question? Y
Second Question? N
Third Question? Y
...
Seventeenth Question? 10
As you see, I have the first row with multiple fields, but the next rows I have a question and an answer.
I would like to have this data imported as shown in the attachment. Example.zip
Most answers I see are for either multiple lines (same data and sizing). I am not sure how to handle several different lines with that vary in size and delimiters.
