With referential integrity enforced, is it possible to use append query to append to multiple tables based on only one parameter that applies to only one table. If so, please enlighten me with a detailed explanation.
I have an append query that contains a parameter [PTIdent] under the field named PTID. I would like to be able to set the parameter through VBA from a control on a form eg Form!PTID
I use the following code as normal Private Sub Command19_Click() On Error GoTo Err_Command19_Click
Is there a way within this code to do this? I realise I could set the form criteria within the query itself. However I wanted to be able to use this query from multiple forms.
I have an append query that currently looks like this URL...This query automatically adds the machine parameters for a product code and lot number into the running condition log. This is so the user does not have to manually go in and tediously select each machine parameter.
The running condition log also has a date field to specify what day and record number the machine parameter's value was recorded on. When I run the query the appended rows look like this. The product and lot are defined by user parameter and there are actually about 36 machine parameters
Code: Productstockcode LotNo Day Record Parameter ActualCond PE-500 130816m71 StockTemp PE-500 130816m71 Zone 1 PE-500 130816m71 Zone 2
My question is: how do I modify the query to automatically add the date and record number in one shot? It needs to be user defined at the time of the query because this data is not stored anywhere else in the database. For each 36 machine parameters the day and record would be the same.
I inherited an interesting problem. I have 3700 tiny MDB files all of which contain the same table (same name, field structure, etc.), but different data. Each database has a slightly different name. It's the result of XML data mining.
I need to combine these 3700 tables from these different databases into one table in one database.
I can't see any way to automate this and as it's a one-time only project I don't know whether it's worth trying to automate it or if I should roll up my sleeves and just start apending tables.
Hi all Can someone help me with an Append query problem I am having. The end result I need is a Work sheet that has a Customers details, Plant details, Work required and a Subcontractor name. I have a search function that I use to select either a Customer name or Plant ID. Once I have selected the Customer name/Plant ID, I use a button to append the Customer Name and the Plant Id to a Plant_History table. This table uses an Autonumber field to create a unique identifier for each entry which I am using as the Work Sheet number. I have then added coding to open a form which accesses the Plant_History table directly so I can enter the work required and the contractor to carry out the work. My problem is that the Customer and/or Plant will have multiple entries in the Plant_History table. Currently, when I select the button to append the details to the Plant_History table, if the Plant ID is already in the table, the number of records is doubled in the Plant_History table (eg if the record has previously been entered 4 times, 8 records will be appended to the table). I am not sure why this happens, if someone could point out the fault in my work, it would be much appreciated. Regards Craig
I have a stock control db and when goods are recieved they could have a different references on them e.g. our internal ref, the purchase order ref etc.
I would like to run a query that firsts ask what criteria i want to use to run the query e.g use the int ref or the PO nr. I can set up a simple parameter query in one field but can not find a solution for the db asking what field i want to use before you put in the reference?
I think this is a simple fix but I am very rusty on access so I can't figure it out, even after a long haul on search engines!
Problem:
I have a single form in my db. This form has a series of drop down menus, check boxes etc etc allowing the user to select as much information they want to query against!
My end goal is to be able to submit this form, a report is opened and relevant records are shown depending on what options the user has selected.
I have attempted to use a query to acheive this, by simply using:
[Forms]![frm_stats]![cbo_location] Like [Forms]![frm_stats]![cbo_location] Is Null....which I was told would work, i.e. expecting the query to miss the form fields that were not selected....But no, the query only returns recrds based on my first combo box on my form and ignores the rest.
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts? - I don't really want to go down the route of using vba and checking each field in turn!!!!
I have about 100 or so tables that I need to append back into one table
However all of these 100 tables all begin with the number 100 at the beggining. I know that you can append tables - but as far as I know you can only do one at a time. Is there any easy way to do this - for example writing a small SQL statement - saying select all tables that begin with 100* and then append into a master table
Alternatively are there any programs on the net that can do this (I just wrote a massive macro to import them from a text file in to access- not realising this problem would happen!) :(
Unfortunately each of the tables has the first row as the column heading too?
In access Im working with two tables, this is my setup
tableA.documentnr tableA.revison
tableB.documentnr tableB.revision
Both tables are filled with data, Table B contains the same kind of data as table A, But tableA has documentnumbers with different revisions (for example revision a,b,c, for each revision a seperate row). Table B might have an identical document, but just one revision (like revision a).
Now I like to append the data of tableA to tableB, except if a revision is similiar to a revision in table A. (There is more metadata involved, but I will do it step by step)
Im not working with primarykey data, becayse in the end result table B will also have multiple (identical)document numbers with different revisions on different rows.
I tried to use the update query but it doenst append the documentnumbers where the revision is not present in table B I attached a image of the tables.
I have over 800 films which I've converted from DVD to iTunes format. I have added them to iTunes and extracted the data to Excel. From Excel, I have imported the data into MS Access.
So, now I have a movie database of my films. See attached fields for all tables and the Relationships.
As you can see, I have created a separate Genre table as this will be my main search parameters.
I can run a simple query which returns the search results for example 'Comedy'. My problem is, I am wanting to do a search for films with for example 'Comedy' and 'Drama'. Whichever way I try this, I don't get the right answer. I either seem to get duplicate records or no results returned.
I attach the query I am running which works for 1 Genre only!
I am not sure whether I have some fundamental problems with it and it's better to start from scratch?! I have the raw data from Excel which I could use to start again.
My form-based search mechanism uses controls to set the parameters for the query data source.
I have one field call quantity in stock. I could you a Between and And method to allow the end user to input the stock quantity they want.
HOWEVER, i would love it for the user to first select the Comparison Operator (e.g. > , <, >=, <=) from a combo box and then in an adjacent text box, enter the quantity.
The expression i entered in the query goes something like this.... Forms![frmSearch]![cboRange] & [Forms]![frmSearch]![txtQuantity]
When i try and run this, i get the message "THe expression is too complex to be evaluated".
I have a reasonably complex query (3 subqueries into 1 main query) which gathers data from various tables into a single dataset based on a specified date.
I now need to generate a similar dataset but across a range of dates (a month) for reporting purposes. However, I can't just adapt the query and change the parameter from a "=#<Date>#" format to a "Between #<Date1># And #<Date2>#" format
The reason being, each date has to be treated individually and has to be queried as a standalone. It's to do with the type of data I have (one-to-many relationships between tables)
So what I really need to do is run the same query multiple times, for each date in scope, then stitch all of those datasets together into one 'giant' one.
How to do that in SQL (effectively, have one query produce the dates in scope, then join that onto the other query, passing each date as the parameter - I don't even think that's possible to be honest)
The other option I can think of is to use VBA to loop through the dates in scope, then use a QueryDef object to set the parameter and read the records for each date into a Recordset object. But then I have the problem of stitching all the Recordsets together, without looping through all the fields and rows each time.
I´m trying to improve my appl. but I´m stuck trying to figure out how to append multiple rows on a table using the Append query.
My problem comes since I have 4 tables with the following fields: 1) Orders OrderID (number) CustomerID (number) Date (date) etc... 2) OrderDetails OrderDetailID (number) OrderID (number) ProductID (number) QuantitySold UnitPrice etc... 3) TmpOrders OrderTmpID (Autonumber) CustomerID (number) Date etc... 4) TmpOrderDetails OrderDetailTmpID (Autonumber) OrderID (number) ProductID QuantitySold etc...
The problem comes since the Tmp tables are used just to record temporarly the information before the transaction is completed. Whe the salesman at the desk finish the sale, a command button is presseed and an append query runs to transfer the data from Tmp tables to the Definitive tables. Another query (Delete) is excuuted inmediately after the append qry. and it deletes the information recorded on Tmp tables.
I need to reset the autonumber or create a field that records the line number so I can add up to the Maximum OrderDetailID found on the definitive table, but the problem is how to create the "controlled" autonumber.
I have created an append query. Inside that query I have one column that take a result from another query and I have about 10 columns that follow that one column by infomation from a table. I do have the query and table "join properties" at "Student-ID". I am appending to a blank table but its not putting any other information into the table. The only time it appends if there is information in there. Is there a way to append to table with no records?
how I could run an append query from table A to table B that only appends data that is not in table B.I want the primary keys of A to be exactly the same as B, because I will use B as a blank slate (another append query to append info to another table C with all the fields as 0 except for the primary key).
For example,
Table A - Supplier Table B - Things that supplier does (blank) Table C - Things that supplier does (information)
Lets say table A has 1,2,3,4 for supplier.Table B has 1, 2, 3, 4, as primary keys as well but all the other fields are zero.I insert PK "5" + data into table A through a data entry form, and then when I click on "save" in the data entry form, I want to macro an append/update qry (I don't know which one is supposed to be used in this instance) that will insert PK-5 into table B, so that I can append the blank slate info into table C.
Could someone please try to give me a step by step method for using an append query to update a table. Gary gave me a ton of help before but im still a little stuck. Thanks in advance. :)
I've just been upgraded to Office 2003 (from 2000) and I'm trying to create an append query. I have three tables but only two are displayed on the table list drop down. I can type in the missing table and the query works but I don't understand why all the available tables are not being shown. Does this happen for anyone else and what can I do?
I have a SELECT query which includes complex calculation that I would like to run on a large number of tables. This query also uses parameters to input ranges for some fields.
I can run this on other tables by doing a global replace of the table name in the script and pasting this as a new query, but this is cumbersome. I would like to set the table name as a parameter, so I can type in the table name for which I want the query to run (similar to the parameter inputs on the range fields).
Is there any way this can be done within SQL? I presume it can be done via VB, but I am not familiar with VB.
I have made several extractions from back ups from our ERP system using maketable querys. Each time when I renamed the table after running the maketable query. I now want to add them to create one big table showing the records which I extracted. I now found that each time when I extracted from my back up tapes there was a little overlap in time which gives me double entries when I use an append query to add them al together.
Is there a way to set parameters which filter our double entries and only adds the unique records to this table?
I have an order system whereby there is a "basket" table and an order detail table.
I want to use an append query to move all the records from the basket table to the order detail table.
However, I also need to mark each record that gets appended to the order detail table with an "Order Id" that has already been saved in an Order table.
I.e. I save the main details of an order into the order table then copy records from the basket table into the order detail table along with an order ID that comes from a form.
I understand that I can use an append query to add data to a table from a form and then have it run by using a command button. I want to do this because when I link the form directly to the table I do not want the form to create a new record every time it is invoked. (it does this automatically because I have visual basic code move to acNewRec and fill in some of the fields on load and lock them off, this is neccessary) I also do not want it to create the record immediately because the user might then decide to cancel their actions and leave the form - then I have half a record's worth of data in my tables! :D
I could just use VB and recordsets to do it but SQL is more elegant. The problem is, when I use the append query it appends an extra record to the table for every single record that already exists within it. So a table with 1500 records will have 1500 new entries containing duplicate data!
This is all a mess, so what would be a better approach? The user does not need to navigate through the records on this form or make edits, it's strictly for additions. There is a subform linked to a table that is in a one-to-many relationship with the table that the parent form must update to, but I'm quite happy to leave that one linked directly.
Any suggestions appreciated ;) I've probably done something thick..
