When counting in Access and a null value is returned I would like this value to be "0" rather than null. I have experimented with IIF and Nz but have been unable to find the key.
How would this be accomplished?
I've include a simple code.. Thanks..
SELECT Count(Table1.[Column One]) AS [CountOfColumn One]
FROM Table1;
I wrote the code below in a module. The text box that this part of the code is getting its value from has a DLookup in its control source. The problem is that when the DLookup does not match the criteria it looks for, it returns Null. The code tries to assign Null to a variable of type currency and that returns an error. Is there anyway to convert the Null to 0?
All the function: Public Function CalculateDepositPlusVO() Dim vAgreedPrice As Currency Dim vtxtTotalVO As Currency Dim vtxtAgreedPricePlusVO As Currency
Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![AgreedPrice].SetFocus vAgreedPrice = Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![AgreedPrice].Text Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtTotalVO].SetFocus vtxtTotalVO = Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtTotalVO].Text vtxtAgreedPricePlusVO = vAgreedPrice + vtxtTotalVO Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtAgreedPricePlusVO].SetFocus Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse4].Form![txtAgreedPricePlusVO].Text = vtxtAgreedPricePlusVO End Function
I have a webpage which shows some results upon executing some SQL statements. However, i will met with some problems when the SQL statements return a NULL value therefore i would like to do some error checking such that when the SQL statement returns NULL, i will direct the user to another page.
Is it possible for me to try sth such as:
if strSQL = SELECT .. FROM .. WHERE .. = NULL then response redirect ...
Was wondering if anybody would be able to give me some advise.
I have a count column in this query, and i would like for it to return a zero instead of null if it doesnt find anything to count. Here's the SQL for the query.
Code: SELECT Documents.Status, Count(Documents.Document) AS CountOfDocument FROM [Request Details] INNER JOIN Documents ON [Request Details].Request_ID = Documents.Request_ID GROUP BY Documents.Status, [Request Details].Contract, [Request Details].CDRL, [Request Details].Change_Cycle HAVING (((Documents.Status)="No Record") AND (([Request Details].Contract)=[Forms]![Report Runner]![Contract]) AND (([Request Details].CDRL)=[Forms]![Report Runner]![CDRL]) AND (([Request Details].Change_Cycle)=[Forms]![Report Runner]![ChangeCycle]));
VBA creating and have spent about 4 hours trying to figure out the error with my simple loop to update a few fields. As you can see from the attached picture, the "Recalc" sub simply stops updating partway through the loop.
I created several tables that contain the look-up data I want to post to database which I will use as the repository for a SharePoint form.Users visiting SharePoint site will enter the data to be kept in an Access database so we can create reports (not seen by the user)
Problem: When I created the database I linked fields to tables to create the look-up lists using the wizard.
When I saved the database, the first field that I linked returned a value of "number" instead of whatever the default value should be for a look-up text field.
I wrote some code in Excel to open and run a module in Access. The code executes, but when I check the results I get no records, however if I just step back 1 line and rerun the query, I get records. Alternately, if I run the code twice it will get results the 2nd time.
The OpenCounter opens a Session in the terminal screen then performs a macro that writes to a temporary table.
Here is the code:
Dim db As ADODB.Connection, Rst As ADODB.Recordset Dim Acc As Access.Application Set db = New ADODB.Connection db.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & DBPath Set Rst = New ADODB.Recordset
[Code] ....
One thing I tried with limited success was to tell the OpenCounter to open and close the table after it was done writing to it, but that seems like a lazy solution and it also doesn't always work.
I am currently creating a database in a hierarchical system that is to be used by multiple users to enter information specific to them. The tables are arranged like this:
Owners Modules Tasks Highlights
Theses are connected using primary ID's and Particular Entries in the next table so they form a hierarchy - when you expand owners it brings up a list of Modules attached to that owner, then expand each module and it brings up a list of tasks associated with that module, expand the task and it brings up a list of highlights associated with that task. This is all very straightforward of course but what I would like to do is create forms that basically match so that the users can navigate from their name, through their modules and tasks and then add highlights to each task.
For this I have been using continuous forms to list all the different entries and inserting a button in each entry that I would like to link to the next form and find the specific data, however when I try to do this the button always without fail will just return all the entries from the form rather than the specific ones requested. I set up the button using the wizard and select 'open form and find specific data' and then select two entries that are identical on each form. I have trawled the internet quite a bit to try and find why this is happening and have inserted various bits of code etc into the embedded macro in an attempt to make it work but to no avail.
I wonder if there is something I need to activate on the form that the button connects to aswel or if I need to connect these forms using the relationship that I used to connect the tables (I am still using a unique identifier).If I connect to a single form it will display the first entry on the list (and I can cycle through them all) on a continuous form it will display all entries starting with the first.I would like it to display all entries for the selected record on the form.
I have a client database that has null values in issue received, there are as many as ten issues per client. What I need to do is make a list of clients that have only two issues outstanding and a list of clients that have three or more issues outstanding. There are two tables that are connected correctly. The client table(one) and the issues table(many).
Is Access slower at summing null records than SQL server? I have a query which takes less than 1second in SQL server but takes about 5-10 in Access but can't think why there is such a lag in processing speeds.
I'm attempting to use Access to automate reporting emails and I'm trying to identify the best way to identify if the report is NULL (blank).
VBA: (strReportName is set to the report. Employees is set to the Employee Name. Email is set to the employees email address. [Requested By] is the column in the report that is used as a filter. The code is functional but also emails reports that are blank. I'm trying to just send the ones that have data) ...
I've built a form on my Access database that invites a user to enter a start date and an end date into two textboxes. When i press a command button, a parameter query runs which uses the two textboxes as the parameter's criteria. However, to ensure that both textboxes have a data entry, i have tried entering in some VBA that prompts the user to enter in a date if its left null...then set focus to that textbox: Here it is...
If IsNull(Me.txtWeight1) Then MsgBox "You must enter a minimum weight!" Me.txtWeight1.SetFocus Else If IsNull(Me.txtWeight2) Then MsgBox "You must enter a maximum weight!" Me.txtWeight2.SetFocus Else If IsNull(Me.txtWeight1) And IsNull(Me.txtWeight2) Then MsgBox "You must enter a min and max weight!" End If
This will not compile for me! I've tried with and End If and without an End If and other stuff. Why won't it work?
It might be an easy one but I just wasted the past hour deciphering through my code in order to solve the run-time error '94' that I'm getting when trying to execute the following code:
Code: Private Sub cmdUpdateDates_Click() '################################### 'This sub aims at combining the timesheet date and the start and end time into the fields [Start Time] and [End Time]. '################################### Dim intCounter As Integer intCounter = 0 Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Im trying to concatenate a bunch of fields (50 arghh) which each are either blank or just contain one letter. This was someone elses setup for an attendance register which I think is an odd way of doing it. I would have used one field and then to get the mark for a week take a substring at the appropriate position. Anyway im trying to replace an empty string field with a letter to represent the register hasn't been marked using sql statement:
SELECT [400 Student Marks].acad_period, [400 Student Marks].student_id, [400 Student Marks].register_id, [400 Student Marks].register_group, Replace([1],"","U") AS attendance FROM [400 Student Marks];
[1] being the first register week then I would have concatenated with [2] etc...
This however causes an error each time on the attendance field so im guessing replace doesn't work on empty strings. Is there a way round this/alternative.
I have been tasked with completing an audit of approximately 10,000 items, to which I have generated a list of 40 questions (fields) for each record. I began collating the information in Excel, but found myself getting lost and even experienced major data loss on at least 2 occasions. I have now decided to ditch Excel and use Access 2003 instead.
I have imported my master spreadsheet, however as I have various contacts sending in their respective information in Excel spreadsheets with same types of fields, and also need to import data that has already been sent in. I’m thinking that it would be better for me to create update and append queries, especially as there is going to be a stage 2, where I will be requesting additional (field) information.
There is a big chance that some of the contacts will send in info for the same item (record), which means that there is a risk of duplication, which I have removed as I have a unique identifier which will be the primary key! Is that right or should it be indexed?
The main problem that I have is that I want Access to ignore the target cell if it has a value in it! Meaning that I would not like Access 2003 to overwrite the cell with valid data in it, with a blank cell! As I need the database to grow!
Can anyone suggest a way that I can do this please.
We just upgraded from 97 to 2003. Just a few little issues. We have an option group.....3 different toggles. One is supposed to bring up incomplete records by check if the 'end time' field is empty:
how to make this two fields in my form to say Y or N if the field is Not Null. Like if the field is not null = Y Else = N for the two fields. I have a picture to show what i'm talking about.
The following code works fine until it gets to last record, then it give me Error # 94 Invalid use of null. I have searched all of my code and null is not in the code.
Code: '-------------------------------------------------------- ' Goes to next record '--------------------------------------------------------- Private Sub cmdNext_Click() On Error GoTo err_handler ' DoCmd.GoToControl (txtNameL) ' DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNext
I am currently creating an Access 2007 database for calculating salesperson commissions. I have a table with 5 fields I'm working with: SalesRep, SOWRep, TerritoryRep, Period and Commission. I am trying to build a query that will calculate commission for a salesperson for each record where their name appears in one of the first three fields. Each time their name appears, they get the commission listed in the Commission field for the stated Period. I have managed to do this part successfully. My problem now is that I am creating a query that will sum all of their commissions by Period. I have run into a situation where sometimes a salesperson will not appear in one of the rep fields, resulting in NULL values in the previous queries. How can I create a final query that will sum correctly even if there are NULL values returned on the previous queries?
Here is what I have so far:
November: Avg((SELECT [SumOf1/3GM$s] FROM [BaxterActualMargin1] WHERE [Period] Like "November*")+(SELECT [SumOf1/3GM$s] FROM [BaxterActualMargin2] WHERE [Period] Like "November*")+(SELECT [SumOf1/3GM$s] FROM [BaxterActualMargin3] WHERE [Period] Like "November*"))
NOTE: Im working in MS Access 2003, only results in this SQL/database (not mysyl, MSSQL etc)
I want to be able to ORDER an SQL query and put the NULL values last.
I have a basic databse:
Table name: PeopleTable Field names: TableID, PersonField, PersonID
The aim is to order by PersonID and put the NULL values last
See pic1.jpg;
The picture (pic1.jpg) shows the database as it is without a query.
See pic2.jpg;
Picture 2 (pic2.jpg) shows the query results when I use the orderby statement (SELECT * FROM PeopleTable ORDER BY PersonID As you can see it shows the results ordered by the PersonID however the NULL values are first.
See pic3.jpg
Desired results, it is ordered by the PeronID and the NULL values are last (NOTE this is an editied screenshot).How can i achieve this is MS Access 2003?
A bit of a weird one, I've got a query and the criteria for showing records is that one particular field is null. However the query is showing records with the values in the field chosen for the Is Null.
Not sure why this is happening, has anyone come across this problem before?
I am having problems with setting up a set of combo boxes.
What I am trying to do is if combo Productline is empty then in combo PartNumber would show all products but if combo Productline has a value selected then in the combo partnumber would only be able to select the partnumbers in that productline.
Hi, I have some problem with assigmnet with date and string variable. what i wana do is get data from Forms textboxes into variable and then by insert query send to history table.
the problem occurs when there is blank textbox its says invalid use of null.
I have a database that has the basic tables of products, accounts and orders.
I need to figure out how to deal with returns.
Do I create a separate table and link that to the orders table for returns?
I haven't made such a large database file so I was curious if anyone had any information on how to lead me in the right direction. Or if there were any examples. (I've looked around but haven't completely figured out the best way to handle this.)
