Open Access App With Access Window Minimized

Mar 29, 2007

I already have this working by means of:

doCmd.RunCommand acCmdAppMinimize in Form_Load (or Form_Open) events.

This works great to hide Access and only display the main form (like a standalone app).

But I have 2 issues:

1. The PopUp form (main or "switchboard" if you like) opens, then Access is minimized, but then the form looses focus. If there are other programs running, form will be behind them!

2. Access is first seen opening (for a moment) and THEN minimized (see 1.). Is there a way NOT TO SEE IT at all? :)

Thanks!

Forms :: Context Menus Don't Work When Access Window Is Minimized

Sep 24, 2013

I recently completed a db for a client and they have since asked that the access window be hidden for certain types of users. This I did using

Code:
ShowWindowAsync Application.hWndAccessApp(), SW_HIDE

if a relevant user opened the db. All well and good, except they then wanted to be able to see the Access link in the taskbar (which SW_HIDE doesn't do) - so I changed it to SW_MINIMISE and they were happy again until..They then realised (and it was a surprise to me as well) that the right click context menus used to filter and sort continuous or datasheet forms were no longer available to these users - nor was the context menu for datasheet columns to freeze or hide columns - see attached.

I've experimented with a number of options and these context menus are available if ShowWindowAsync is not called or if called with SW_HIDE, but not for SW_MINIMISED, SW_SHOWMINIMISED, SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE, SW_SHOWNOACTIVE.

Why the shortcut menus are not available when the Access window is minimised? The requirement being that the context menus are available to all users the Access link appears on the task bar for all users the access window is hidden for some users.I should say that due to hiding/minimising the access window all forms are popup and modal.

Open Word Window On Access Form

Sep 6, 2005

Hello,
I am a researcher creating critical editions of ancient texts by collating readings from several manuscripts (i.e. different mss all contain minor differences). I create my edition in Word and use footnotes to record the variant readings. I also have a database - created from the word file - in which I can add context to each variant e.g. decisions, history etc. So I have a word file containing the text and its variants uniquely identified with a footnote reference and a database with one table and a record per variant and where the variant records are also unique and share the same number as the footnote. I would very much like to be able to open a window on my variant form which displays the word file at the correct variant (i.e. footnote reference) location. This will make it easier for me to record my assessments of the variant in the dbase while looking at where the variant occurs in the text. Obviously I don't need to see the footnote window as I have this info in the dbase.
I haven't got a clue how to do this and would appreciate any pointers.
Many thanks in advance,
Tim

Open MS Access Window In A Certain Position And Size

Nov 27, 2006

Hi,

I would like to open the MS Access Window in a certain position and size.

Somehow similar to open a form when using:
- to set the position and size:

Private Sub Form_Load()
Form.Move Left:=11500, Top:=6500, Width:=7000, Height:=6000
End Sub

I would like to open the MS Access Window within the screen area at a certain location, and having a certain size.
Is there any option in the Access Menu, or I can write some code, and where has to be written, so when I double click on the *.mdb file, the MS Access Window will open where I want and the size I want.

Thank you.

By using acCmdAppMinimize command, only the Access window is minimized and if other applications are maxmized, they will be on top. So is there any vba solution to do what I explained?

Reports :: Possible To Open A Report With Access Main Window Hidden?

Jul 18, 2014

I'm working on a database that produces employee contracts. To make it look as professional as possible I hide the Access main window when the splash screen loads using the ShowWindow function. The various forms to check and enter details all pop up without any problem, but when I get to the last stage where I use a report to produce the contract and then open it in PrintPreview mode, it won't display (unless I show the main window again , which looks very untidy!). Is it actually possible to display a report with the main Access window hidden?

Automated Access Launch Causing Access Window To Fail To Hide

Jul 10, 2006

Hi,
I have been using "fSetAccessWindow (SW_HIDDEN)" in the open event of my
main switchboard to hide the grey Access screen from being visible behind
forms, reports, etc in this db. But when I started using a .vbs script file
to launch the db, the Access window stopped being hidden. (The reason I use
the script for launching is that it temporarily sets the db's security level
to 1 which stops the macro security warning from coming up.) Apparently MS
knows about this happening and released a technique to rectify the situation,
but I don't understand their instructions. It looks like they expect one to
have more understanding than I have. Could someone help me get this
impliemented? Here is the article:

Thanks!

Access 2013 - Hiding And Showing Access Window

Apr 6, 2015

I am trying to Hide or Show the Access Window by using two buttons on a Form. Running Access 2013 in Windows 7 64bit.

I have used code from the Internet as below but added the PtrSafe item to the Function Declaration as below:-

Option Compare Database
'Hide Access desktop screen and float Forms on pc desktop
Private Declare PtrSafe Function IsWindowVisible Lib "user32" (ByVal hwnd As Long) As Long

Dim dwReturn As Long
Const SW_HIDE = 0

[Code] ....

I then have two buttons on a form coded as below:-

Option Compare Database
Private Sub cmd_Hide_dbw_Click()
Call fSetAccessWindow("Minimize", False, False)
DoCmd.OpenForm "frm_Test", acNormal
End Sub

[Code] .....

I have attached a Test Database which demonstrates the problem I am experiencing.

Do the following sequence...............

Open the Test Database. DO NOT ENABLE CONTENT
The Access 'Ribbon'Test_Database.accdb is active and usable
Open frm_Test in Design View in order to inspect, all should be as shown above.
Now click the Enable Content warning
Switch frm_Test to Form View

Click button Hide dbw. Closes the Access Window
Click button Show dbw. Opens the Access Window...HOWEVER....

Attachment 20252The Access Ribbon is locked and usable !!!

I cannot find a way to re-activate the Ribbon

General :: Only Open MS Access Form Without Access Running In Background?

Aug 7, 2013

I have made a form on access which will be used by other employees within the company, however they have never used access before and they are wanting to access only just the form as I feel with Access and all the tools in the background will confuse them, plus I don't want them editing the data base its self.

Is there a way to only bring up the form, unless I obviously need to edit the date base.

I've done some research on Google and it seems I need to use:

SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE

However I can not seem to find how I would use this or where?

and also if i did find a way to only bring up the form, how would I be able to switch it from that veiw to the veiw I edit in?

Moving Form To Top Right Of Access Window

I have a form which I want to move OnLoad to the top-right of the Access window. Something like this:

Private Sub Form_Load()
Me.Move Right:=150, Top:=150
End Sub

But there isn't a Right:=, only Left:=. So maybe I could find out the width of the Access window? Is this possible?

Thanks for any advice.

Hide Access Background Window

I am using Access 2010 and trying to hide the background access window, so that only my forms are visible to the end users.

After researching, I found these VBA codes, but I always get an error. I have changed all my forms & reports to Pop-up and Modal. This is the code that I use on OnLoad of the Main (first form):

Private Sub Form_Load()
Const SW_HIDE = 0
Const SW_SHOWNORMAL = 1
Const SW_SHOWMINIMIZED = 2
Const SW_SHOWMAXIMIZED = 3

[Code] ....

When I open my the database- the mian window is still there and I get an error

"The espression On Load you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: Only comments may appear after End Sub, End Function or End Property.

*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Even Procedure].

Hide Access Window Task Bar And Reports

Nov 15, 2005

All,

I've been using Dev Avish's excellent code shown within the sample database section to hide access windows. I've taken his call fsetAccessWindow function and set it to 1 or normal in two separate databases. Both databases seem to work slightly differently. The idea is that opening the database produces one Visible instance of access on the taskbar which is the purple standard graphic (Access 2000 / Windows 2000). With the first database I have set up reports through the active x control as required when using dev's code and even when I hit the report button the user is only aware of one visible instance of access as the purple colour graphic.

I am trying to implement the same code in a second database and have copied the code from the previous database into this database. It works great for the forms however there is a slight glitch when report forms are accessed. Rather than remaining with the purple access part on the task bar the task bar section is split into two between the form and the report. In the previous database users would not notice that the report had been opened at all. (although technically it was still running in the backrground)

I have checked most of the properties between the two database forms and they would appear to be the same..

Has anyone got any ideas why the taskbar is behaving differently between these two databases there must be some difference between my set up but as yet cannot find it??

Thanks Mark

Screen Capture Access Window And Save To Disk

Oct 18, 2005

Hi,

I'm looking to take a screen dump of the current Access window, and save it to disk, as part of the error handling for my application. Does anybody have any suggested starting points? I've been Googling around for a while, but haven't really turned up anything concrete.

This (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=240653) was as close as I really got (sending the print screen keystroke), however I still need a way to save this data to the disk.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Adam.

Hiding Access Window With DoCmd.runCommand AcCmdAppMinimize

Mar 28, 2007

Ok, I finally have it working the way I like. It's really slick - the main form (set to "PopUP" and with docmd.runcommand accmdappminimize line in the On_Open event) opens with customized icon (in titlebar and in windows taskbar) and behaves like a standalone program (you only see Access the first few seconds during opening before it's minimized).

The form can be minimized to windows taskbar and clicked to restore it (form's maximize button is disabled, for appearance sake). it can also be accessed via the alt-tab windows menu, where it also appears with a custom icon. so it's really slick, it behaves just like a standalone app. read on for the ", but..."

I also wrote 2 functions to handle reports.

1st (fnOpen, I also use it for forms, etc. via arguments, but only the reports have the following logic). This one closes my main form, maximizes Access (which has all menus/toolbars disabled, so it doesn't really look like Access, looks like a report viewer). This function is placed into all report buttons' On_Click event with report name as argument and object type (3 for report, because 0=table, 1=query, 2=form, 3=report in my fnOpen).

2nd. (fnCloseReport) is placed into all reports' On_Close event. This function opens my main form again on the tab from which report was called. It works, but herein lies the problem: after the form reopens, it no longer has the whole application's custom icon, but the Access "form" icon. And after this, if minimized to windows taskbar it actually minimizes as resized mini-window above the Start button (as has been described by others, just as it would within Access it it were visible) and Access appears minimized in the windows taskbar, so somehow the whole cool "standaloneness" is turned off.

I wonder if anyone has some suggestions for this. I spent some time researching and testing this and really like the functionality. When the form is displayed without Access, it cannot be right-clicked (at all), which is very useful (although I know there are other ways of protection).

BTW, all my other windows (all popup/modal) appear on top of the main form with no problems. I have "File Open" and "Save As" windows common dialogs that my app calls (via API) and I also have a custom form acting as dialog box (I use the acDialog intrinsic constant when I open it from code). so mutliple windows are not an issue as some have suggested.

Thanks in advance!

Access 2007 - Disabling Shift Key And Hiding DB Window

Jan 1, 2008

Hi,

I have a couple of databases set up with shift key bypass and DB window hide and a couple of menu bar commands hidden (All code taken from this great forum :) ). Recently my company decided to upgrade Access 2000 to Access 2007 and they have given me a test environment and a time frame to convert / test all my applications.
I found this concept of ribbon and office links very different and shocking.
Is there a way of hidding somethings that you can do with the office links (like compact and repair) and a way of hiding some clusters in the ribbon (like export and import data, have a dtaasheet view of any form? etc) Any help or link along these lines would be helpful..

DoCmd.OpenForm Fails If Access Is Not The Active Window

Jun 13, 2006

I have an Access 2000 application which, on startup, always launches a 'switchboard' form and sometimes gets information from the user during the startup. Both forms are opened with VBA using DoCmd.OpenForm; the switchboard opens as acNormal and the input form (when used) as acDialog.

Under normal circumstances this works fine.

If, however, the Access window ceases to be the active window in Windows (e.g. the user selects another application's window in the taskbar) the forms do not open (all other VBA code runs correctly).

Any ideas?

Simon
