Open Crystal Reports From An Access Form

Jan 31, 2008

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you would be able to help me out. I'm trying to get a button on an access form to open crystal reports and pass two parameters through to it from controls on the access form.

This is what I have at them moment:
Private Sub openRpt_Click()

Dim selForm As String
Dim CrystalReport1 As Crystal.crystalReport
Set CrystalReport1 = CreateObject("crystal.crystalreport")

CrystalReport1.Connect = "ODBC;UID=ID;PWD=PW;DSN=dsn;Database=dbname"
CrystalReport1.ReportFileName = "O:DatabasesCReportsSingle Project Up To Burn Rate.rpt"
'CrystalReport1.WindowTitle = "Single Project Up To Burn Rate"
'CrystalReport1.WindowMaxButton = False
'CrystalReport1.WindowMinButton = False
'CrystalReport1.WindowState = crptMaximized

selForm = 'selection formula

CrystalReport1.SelectionFormula = selForm
CrystalReport1.ParameterFields(0) = "PeriodStart(" & Me.yearCode & ");true"
CrystalReport1.ParameterFields(1) = "ProjectNo(" & Me.projectNumber & ");true"
CrystalReport1.Destination = crptToWindow
CrystalReport1.Action = 1

End Sub

With this I'm currently getting a "Method 'Action' of object 'CrystalCtrl' failed" on the line CrystalReport1.Action = 1

My Ideal solution would open Crystal Reports in its own window, but if thats not possible opening in the access form would do.

currently running:
Access 2003
Windows Server 2003
Crystal Reports XI

Thanks

Access With Crystal Reports..

May 10, 2006

Hope someone here can help me with this.

I am using access 2003 and Crystal reports XI.
I have created some reports using CRXI that access my access database.
I use the following code to open the standard reports. MyReportFile is the name of my rpt file. I have no problems here.

Set crxReport = crxApplication.OpenReport(MyReportFile, acViewDesign)
CRViewer1.ReportSource = crxReport

But when I use the following code to use the recordset as source for the report, everything works the same - opens the report with data from the recordset..
Problem is after I close the application, access window will not close. The only way I can close is by task manager. If the following code is not executed then I could close the access window. I get no error messages.
When I run the same application with Access runtime version I get the message "Execution of this application has stopped due to a run-time error. The application can't continue and will be shut down.". But will not let me close the access window.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Set crxReport = crxApplication.OpenReport(MyReportFile, acViewDesign)
crxReport.DiscardSavedData
crxReport.Database.SetDataSource SearchResults_rst
Set crxReport = crxApplication.OpenReport(MyReportFile, acViewDesign)
CRViewer1.ReportSource = crxReport

Thanks in advance.

Access Or Crystal Reports

Jan 21, 2008

I would appreciate any advice/opinions as to what advantages, if any, Crystal Reports has over Access.

I am used to developing complex queries and reports etc. in MS Access but a job I have applied for uses Crystal Reports of which I have no knowledge/experience. I've got an evaluation copy of CR and it looks relatively straightforward but if I could use Access I would!

Thanks

Crystal Reports .ocx Control

Jun 30, 2005

I have created some Crystal Reports to open out of MS Access. Everything works great for me and all the users, except one.

The one user when they try to open the report gets nothing (no error, no lock-up, nothing). It is only on their machine (we have tested them logged into other machines and the report works just fine).

My guess is there is something wrong with the Crystal Viewer on their machine (in our case Crystal 8.5 ActiveX viewer control). I looked on their machine, and they have the same .ocx control as myself and the other users C:Winntsystem32Crystl32.ocx

I even went into their Access and Registered this ActiveX control (design view of a form) and still was not able to get the control to work. We were thinking about re-imaging this users machine, but this is the only error they currently have. I was wondering if anyone else had run into this error, and if so is there an easy fix?

Thank you for your time.

c. A possible role for a database in the application.
d. why is XML used in Crystal Reports.
e. How does XML simplify storage on Crystal Reports?
f. How does XML simplify sharing on Crystal Reports?
g. What does XML replace?
h. What does the XML represent in the chosen application?
i. How is the XML processed?
j. Are there any disadvantages of using XML?
When a database is used alongside XML:
k. How are they related?
l. Is the XML stored and if so how is it stored?
m. How is the XML queried?

I Have this exam for the next 10-Apr-2008, So I would need this help before 9-Apr-2008 (Next Wednesday).

Any link/s to a website that could answer some or all the questions would be appreciate.

I would really appreciate if any of you could give a hand, althoug I know it is quite long question.

Thanks in advance,either you can answer or not.

PS: I dont know if you can send it to my email, but if so please fell free to send the answer to my email.

Crystal Reports Viewer Active X Control

Feb 26, 2006

Could anyone point me in the right direction re the Crystal Reports Active X viewer control and access forms. I loaded it onto a form in access 2000, but can't seem to find any meaningfull properties I can manipulate (especially the report source). I am thinking it works like any other active x control and I can manipulate properties through code, however, the main property I would think I need (source report) does not seem to exist. I have Crystal 10.0 loaded on my system.

Reports :: Open Separate Reports For Each Record In Continuous Form

Aug 19, 2014

I have a continuous form that displays a list of invoices (frmInvoiceList) based on an adjustable filter contained within the form. I have the filters working the way that I want them through VBa and I have a button on each record to open a report (rptInvoice). Inside that report, I have some controls to "print", "email", and "export to PDF". Again all that works just the way I want. The Form and the Report are based on a different query and each has an InvoiceID field to link.

What I am trying to do is put the Print, Email, and Export buttons on the main form which would perform the appropriate action for all the records that are displayed on the form. I've been able to get the Print function to work to a degree. It will print all the records, but it changes the background colors based on the alternating records. When I go to Email or Export, it creates a single file with multiple pages and each page is a new record, again with the alternating background colors.

Ideally, I would like to have a separate file exported for each record that can be renamed and archived separately. I'm not so concerned with the email function but if it would be possible to generate a separate report for each invoice, then pull the appropriate email address for the record, that would be really nice.

I've tried some "for" and "do" loops that I found through some Googling but none of the samples ended up working like I wanted.

Reports :: Possible To Open A Report With Access Main Window Hidden?

Jul 18, 2014

I'm working on a database that produces employee contracts. To make it look as professional as possible I hide the Access main window when the splash screen loads using the ShowWindow function. The various forms to check and enter details all pop up without any problem, but when I get to the last stage where I use a report to produce the contract and then open it in PrintPreview mode, it won't display (unless I show the main window again , which looks very untidy!). Is it actually possible to display a report with the main Access window hidden?

Reports :: Open Report From Information In A Form

May 28, 2013

I have a Table with Emp_ID and Details of my Employees. I have created a query and set parameter [Enter Emp_ID]. When I pull up a report, I get a pop-up and it asks me for the Emp_ID. When I input same, I get the information I need. Everything is good so far...

My Question... I have designed a report when user will need to enter Emp_ID and click on a button and they will get the report "EMPReport" without having the pop-up window asking for EmpID.

I have been using the below code but I get the pop-up again and I need to enter the Emp_ID again to view the report

See below Code:

Code:
Private Sub Image11_Click()
If IsNull(Me.Emp_ID) Or Me.Emp_ID = "" Then
MsgBox "You must enter an Emp ID.", vbOKOnly, "Required Data"
Me.Emp_ID.SetFocus
Exit Sub
End If
DoCmd.OpenReport "Rpt_HR1", acViewPreview, , "[Emp_ID]= " & "" & Me!Emp_ID & ""
End Sub

Code:
Private Sub FilterReport_Click()
DoCmd.OpenReport "Report", acViewReport, "First Name='" & Me.FName & "'"
End Sub

Code:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub Report_Open(Cancel As Integer)
Me.RecordSource = Me.FName

"FilterReport" = Form Button
"Report" = Report
"First Name" = Report Field
"FName" = Form Combo Box

Reports :: Can Create A Date Parameter Box Open Up / When Open Report

Sep 21, 2014

I have a report based on a query that has data for many dates. At the moment I have put a specific date in the criteria of the query so that I could build the report format. So it now displays all the data for the date i have in the criteria section. I will need to run this report several times per week so the specified date (and corresponding data in the report) will need to be changed to a new date when I open the report i.e. when I open my report I want to show data in the report only for a specified date.

Can I create a date parameter box open up when I open the report? Can I create a form with a button that when I click will open the report displaying data for that date? What would be the best way?I also need to display the specified date on the report.

General :: Only Open MS Access Form Without Access Running In Background?

Aug 7, 2013

I have made a form on access which will be used by other employees within the company, however they have never used access before and they are wanting to access only just the form as I feel with Access and all the tools in the background will confuse them, plus I don't want them editing the data base its self.

Is there a way to only bring up the form, unless I obviously need to edit the date base.

I've done some research on Google and it seems I need to use:

SW_SHOWMINNOACTIVE

However I can not seem to find how I would use this or where?

and also if i did find a way to only bring up the form, how would I be able to switch it from that veiw to the veiw I edit in?

Reports :: Open Multiple Reports With A Common Field

Mar 30, 2014

I have four forms named [Information Form], [Evidence Form], [Subject Form], and [Vehicle Form]. The Final Form is a Tabbed Form named [New Incident]. The tabbed form has four tabs, with each tab displaying one of the forms above. I also have a Print Command Button named [Print All] underneath the tabbed portion of the [New Incident] form.

Also, All of the four forms are set to data entry - yes, so that on open they will be clean and read for new record entry. I need the [Print All] button to do, just that, print everything that has or has not just been entered into the four forms, even if some are printed blank because they were not necessary for this particular report. One thin of note is that each form on the tab has a field for the "Incident Number" which will be the same for all four forms.

Reports :: Open Multiple Reports Using For Loop

Oct 25, 2013

I wanted to print multiple reports using for loop but I am not sure how to start with.

This is basically my idea:

1. Create a hidden indicator, I name it txtHidden.
2. I have one table, there are one column for "report name".
3. I have one query, filtered the "report name" column according to txtHidden, criteria written in the design view.
4. Using For loop, browse through all the existing report.
5. Every loop, txtHidden will equals to every reportItem.Name. Query will run.
6. If Query is no result, dont open report, if query returns some result, open the report.

I wanted to code something as below, but I dont know what to put in the [Dont know what to type] field...

For Each [Dont know what to type] In Access.Reports
[Forms]![frmStartup]![txtHidden] =[ Dont know what to type] .Name
If DCount("*", "ReportQuery", "") > 0 Then
DoCmd.OpenReport [Forms]![frmStartup]![txtHidden], acViewPreview
End If
Next

Can ignore the query part. It is working fine.

Athens athens.pdf

I need a browse button for user to select the proper file and a command button. And I think that the file should always be available in the same URL.

Open Word Window On Access Form

Sep 6, 2005

Hello,
I am a researcher creating critical editions of ancient texts by collating readings from several manuscripts (i.e. different mss all contain minor differences). I create my edition in Word and use footnotes to record the variant readings. I also have a database - created from the word file - in which I can add context to each variant e.g. decisions, history etc. So I have a word file containing the text and its variants uniquely identified with a footnote reference and a database with one table and a record per variant and where the variant records are also unique and share the same number as the footnote. I would very much like to be able to open a window on my variant form which displays the word file at the correct variant (i.e. footnote reference) location. This will make it easier for me to record my assessments of the variant in the dbase while looking at where the variant occurs in the text. Obviously I don't need to see the footnote window as I have this info in the dbase.
I haven't got a clue how to do this and would appreciate any pointers.
Many thanks in advance,
Tim
