Pass Open Args To Report To Print ?
Aug 25, 2006
I have a form where a user can press a button, which then prints a report.
The report is basically the same as the form but laid out neater and in a format that fits it to 1 A4 page.
For one of these reports, I would like it to run a different query depending upon which form is used. I know with the forms you can use an open args property but is there a similar way to pass this to a report and have it print immediately?
If so, what's the best method?
Thanks

I have an unbound form with an associated report. When the user hits the 'print' button on the form/screen, the report is launched in the background. In the On Load event of the report I populate the report fields from the forms field as so:
Code:
Me.txtAddrMainLine2 = "NAME " & UCase([Forms]![frm_OrderRx].[txtPatientName])
This works like a charm as long as I call the report in Print Preview mode (i.e. with acViewPreview). But if I send the report directly to the printer, none of the fields print.
I've read about using other report events to populate the fields (e.g., On Format and On Print) and also something about using TempVars to pass the data. But I haven't read anything that's clear and definitive about the full answer.

Hi All,
I should know how to do this but my brain has gone blank.
I have a form "frmMainClient" which has a field "account_no".
On the main form "frmMainClient" I have a command button which opens a pop up form ""frmJobNew" where I can enter a new job record. The "frmJobNew" form has a field "account_no".
I am trying to auto fill the "account_no" field with the data from the "frmMainClient" - "account_no" field and store the passed data when the record is saved.
I can pass the data using "=forms![frmMainClient]![account_no] in the "account_no" field on the "frmJobNew" but when I save the record the data is not saved.
Can anyone offer help, please
Many thanks.

I have a button on my main db, that opens a second db using hte following code:
----------------------
'Dealing with external objects, use inline error trapping
On Error Resume Next
Dim appAccess As Object
Dim db As Database
Dim strAppPathName As String
Dim strAppName As String
Dim strTimesheetPathName As String
[Code] ....
This code works great to open the other db, and handles wheter the other db is already open or not, but I cant seem to pass the variable to the other db using the startup switch /cmd.
I suspect if I used the shell method it would pass the cmd , but I havnt found any way to test if the db is already open with the shell method.
How can I pass a variable to the other db when opening it using VBA?

I started a thread in the VBA section about a problem with a function I'd written. I think it's more to do with how I'm implementing it in a query.

Please help.

I am trying to enter dates in a form that calls a report that invokes a query that uses the dates. It has been a less then satisfying experience. I am getting a Run-Time error 3122. Is it possible and I need to work on syntax or do I need to think of another way? BTW how do I lookup the Run-Time errors?
Thanks for helping an old guy learn new tricks.

I have a report that pulls data from a crosstab query. The report works perfectly and prompts for a "StartDate" when it is run.I need a form with a date field that can be selected. Then a command button which when pressed opens the report with the selected date passed as the parameter.the code I have so far is in the on click event of the button:
DoCmd.OpenReport "rpt_12MonthlyInvoices", acViewPreview, , "StartDate=" & Me.txtStartDate
I was hoping that this would pass the txt.startDate field on the form to the report's "StartDate" when it is opened, but it is still prompting for the parameter when the report loads.Should I be using openArgs rather than the where clause? Or do I need to configure something in the "on load" event of the report also?

I have a report that is based on a query.
The query has two fields. Start and End Dates.
When I run the query the Parameter box asks for the dates by using <[Date1] and >[Date2]
What I want is to have 2 fields at the top of the report, that display the values I enter in these boxes?

I am able to filter a data on a continuous form using drop downs and then the following code attached to a cmdbutton to create a report of the filtered data.
Code:
Private Sub Command30_Click()
Dim strWhere As String
If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False
If Me.FilterOn Then strWhere = Me.Filter
DoCmd.OpenReport "rptconveyorerrors", acViewReport, , strWhere
End Sub
On the same form where I filter the data i can sort it by clicking the headings aswell, however when i generate the report using the above VBA it doesn't take the sort with it and just generates it without the sort.
I am using the following VBA to sort my form
Code:
Me.OrderByOn = True
If Me.OrderBy = "[empname] DESC" Then
Me.OrderBy = "[empname] ASC"
Else
Me.OrderBy = "[empname] DESC"
End If
Me.Refresh
I thought it may be possible to use the following sort of VBA to pass the sort however i cant get it to work:
Code:
Private Sub Command30_Click()
Dim strOrder As String
Dim strWhere As String
If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False
If Me.FilterOn Then strWhere = Me.Filter
If Me.OrderByOn Then strOrder=Me.OrderByOn

On this form, there is a text box for Quantity...At the end of the form, there will be a button that when pressed:The current record the data on the form is entered for is saved,A report is printed on a specific printer,I do not want the report to actual display,The number of copies it prints should be equal to what the quantity field indicates.I do have the report already created and the Quantity field is on the report (just not visible).Once this all happens, it should return the user to the form, that is blank, waiting for a new record entry.

This is the second database where this has happened to me. I have code to print a report (with several sub-reports) to PDF. When it prints, only the first couple reports appear. The rest of the pages on the PDF are blank. If I try manually saving to PDF (Save As > PDF or XPS), I get the error "Cannot open any more databases."
In the other case, my "solution" was to copy all the queries into temporary tables and use the temp tables as the datasources for the reports.

I have created a report that prints a transaction input via a form. All the data has been posted to tables while the document details are still on the form. The source for the report is a query that gets its "Document ID" from the current form as its CRITERIA. This works fine. I click a button and the report prints.
Now I've added a datasheet that lists all the "Document IDs" that have been posted within a given date range. I've added a Macro to open(reprint) the same report when any Document ID is double-clicked. This is working except that it prompts for a Parameter Value and references Forms!DocDataEntry!txtDocumentID. (Note: this is the name of the original data entry form which is no longer open)
If I manually type the Document ID (that I just double-clicked) in the parameter box, the report prints correctly. But this shouldn't be necessary.
I know I'm missing a WHERE clause on the Macro that opens the report but nothing I've input works. I can't even hard code a document number. Actually any Where clause provided prompts additional parameter boxes to open and they ALL require the SAME INFORMATION... the Document ID.
I'm thinking that the Criteria on the Document ID in the query should be changed to allow a Document ID from any active source.

I have modal form - frmZlecenia
I would like to copy one control, then close this form, open concrete form and pass value to control.
My code is
Private Sub Menu_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmZleceniaMarzenaNawigacjaPD"
Forms!frmZleceniaMarzenaNawigacjaPD.Form!Imie = Me.Imie
Forms!frmZleceniaMarzenaNawigacjaPD.Form!Imie.SetFocus
DoCmd.Close acForm, Me.name
End Sub
The problem is, still opens the previous form, not form "frmZlecenia"
e.g If I open form x then from this form I open my modal form "frmZlecenia" and then I will click "menu" button - now form "x" is open :/, but should be "frmZleceniaMarzenaNawigacjaPD"
There is some way to open concrete form from modal form?

I want to put a print button on my data entry form that prints the current record in a report that is laid out all nice and pretty. I found this code that works, but it goes straight to the printer - it does not bring up the printer dialog so you can select a printer.
Code:
Private Sub RecordPrint_Click()
Dim strWhere As String
If Me.Dirty Then
Me.Dirty = False
End If
[Code] ....
How do I get it to bring up the printer dialog?

I have a report based on a query that has data for many dates. At the moment I have put a specific date in the criteria of the query so that I could build the report format. So it now displays all the data for the date i have in the criteria section. I will need to run this report several times per week so the specified date (and corresponding data in the report) will need to be changed to a new date when I open the report i.e. when I open my report I want to show data in the report only for a specified date.
Can I create a date parameter box open up when I open the report? Can I create a form with a button that when I click will open the report displaying data for that date? What would be the best way?I also need to display the specified date on the report.

Good afternoon, I have a form with a subform and in the first txtbox of the subform in the GotFocus event I have a little procedure which checks the txtboxs on the parent to make sure that there is data in all four of the txtboxes. This works great the first time and it pops up a msgbox and it even setsfocus on the txtbox with no data in it, but if I tab into the subform a second time and there still is no data in one of the txtboxs on the parent form, nothing happens, no message and no setting focus on the txtbox with no data in it. Does anyone know of a way to get this procedure to re-set everytime a user tries to enter the subform? Thank you in advance to anyone offering and ideas and suggestions.
