I have this basic question (obviously not so basic for me): how to pull out only unique records from two fields.
More details - two fields with names of competitors in a tournament (Winner or Loser) and i need to build a query to have all players names participating in the tournament regardless if they have won or lost in one list.
I have a form (form1) that will populate with records (table1) based on key fields of "Project Number" and at time-points we will update part of the record, and then we create a word document detailing the updates with a couple of other bits of information not in original record.
Basically I want it to go from the original form (form1) into another form (form2) (via a command button) taking the key field of "Project Number" where it will ask the bits of information that we don't need have already and the contact person.
I have got this to store in a different table (table2) using a key field of just "ID" from the original records (table1). A list of contact people are in a separate table (table3) using a key field of "contact name" which will include other details for them such as address and phone number.
So from "form2" I would like to produce a report that contains information form "table1" based on the "Project Number" and "table2" based on "ID" as just been generated and "table 3" which is based on "contact name".
So I want to pull information form the records based on the certain key fields but struggling for it to pull it successfully...
Got relationships between: "contact name" fields in both "table2" and "table3" "project number" fields in both "table1" and table2"
In a query for the report I have all the appropriate fields, but only have the "contact name" and "project number" from "table2" is this right? or do I need both in?
Or would it be easier to draw all this information into "form2" but don't really want to select that many drop down boxes or would it be able to pull it from the "contact name" and "project number" boxes????
Greetings all! We have a mentor-mentee database that's been setup with a many-to-many design. We're storing essentially the same data in each table except for the field names. We thought we were good to go but one additional request was made to determine a count of employees participating in the program (regardless of whether mentor or mentee) in each section of the company. We don't want each person counted multiple times if they are both a mentor and a mentee, or if they have >1 mentee or >1. I created a couple of queries to pull unique empIDs from each table to narrow down each table BUT I'm stuck on being able to pull unique id's from both tables.
I first tried the unmatched query wizard from both viewpoints but then I don't get those cases where a mentor is also a mentee. In other attempts, I end up with a cartesian product. I've cruised through the queries section but haven't come up with any examples related to this type of situation.
I need a way to pull both unmatched records from each table while also getting essentially the first occurrence of instances where mentorID=MenteeId. I'm no SQL expert so if someone can think of a statement that would suffice, it would be greatly appreciated.
I have a query that pulls data from the following fields in 2 different tables:
Area1FloorPrep (tblFloorPrep) ex. remove ceramic tile Area1Size (tblInstallationAreas) ex. 20 s/f, or just 20 Area2FloorPrep (tblFloorPrep) Area2Size (tblInstallationAreas)....
All the way to Area20 (Floorprep and InstallationAreas) for both tables. I have created an installer invoicing form that pulls the data from the workorder that these fields are located in, but the problem I'm having is that I don't know what kind of query to create to concatenate the data in the 20 fields and concatenate the size of the areas next to the appropriate concatenated floor prep description. Is there a way to do this without coding?
Hiya all, I know the title is confusing, and so is the problem (to me at least). Basically, I have a database with an invoice form. Each record is an invoice, and on this form there is a subform of additional charges. The tables are linked by InvoiceID. It worked smashingly when I was playing around with it, until I finally tried an invoice with no additional charges. The queries for my reports display no records (because there are none). This is an issue, because I need a summed up amount of the charges to complete the invoice. I cannot do this on the report, because additional expressions are used on the charges.
Basically, my problem comes down to this: I have no additional charges, so certain fields in my query don't exist, therefore the entire query record won't display. I was screwing around with NZ() and IsNull() before I realized that a null record and the absence of a record are different.
I've been searching, but can't seem to find the right keywords to produce a fruitful search. If anyone can point me in the right direction or give me some words of advice, I'd greatly appreciate it. And yes, as far as I know, my database is fully normalized.
I need to know a query to pull information from two date fields into one. I have a BuriedStartDate field and an AerialStartDate field. In a third field I have PlacementStart. I would like to put the date into the PlacementStart field which ever is the oldest date bewtween the BuriedStartDate and AerialStartDate. It has been awhile since I have done any queries on Access 2007. I am completely self taught in Access.
I have a query that pull data from hours worked fields that have values with decimal places. Hours is multiplied to rates to create my amount to charge in my query which is then displayed on my invoice report.
The issue is that when I sum my amount, my subtotal is off by $.01 due to the decimals entered for the hours worked (e.g. hours worked is 1.5*32.75=49.125)
I need the rounding to work in the query and display on my report as $49.13 and the subtotal to reflect it. I have the properties in my table as double with decimal place at 2, and my query and report properties with decimal place at 2 as well. It still isn't working.
Most employees have 10 to 15 rows. I only want to pull ALL rows for employees ONLY if there is a distinct count from DATE_PAID greater than 1. There are cases where an employee might have two pay checks generarted for the same PAY_DATE.
I have two tables: Table #1) [Request Table] Customers request our company to stock a certain Part Number with a minimum value. Ajax - P/N "NP4i" - Min "30".
Table #2) [Sales History] All sales purchased and the "Qty-Total" purchased. For simplicity Fields are limited.I created a CrossTab Query that displays from [Request Table] P/N's requested/ min values (Row Headings) then showing P/N's purchased [Sales History] Value="Qty-Total" Sum and
Column=Format([Invoice Date],"mmm/yyyy") group by, showing last twelve months. Ex: Customer name, Part Number, Minimum, May/2013, Apr/2013, Mar/2013 and so on. AJAX, NP4i, 30 4 21 5 and so on.
The Crosstab query list only requested Part Numbers that have at least One sale wihin the last twelve months. If there are NO sales, the crosstab query will NOT show this Part Number. My boss wants to see the requested Part Numbers that were never purchased along with the ones purchased. He wants to address the NO sales, yet they requested we stock that particular Part Number for them.
Is there any criteria I can use to force the Part Number field on the [Request Table] side to populate even though there were NO sales within the last twelve months?
I have one table let's call is table1. It contains about 5 columns with standard employee data with about 10,000 rows of data containing about 1,150 employees. All employees have multiple rows of data. There is one column titled JOB. I need to pull all rows of data for each employee ONLY if there is at the minimum one value for the employee in the JOB column. I do not want to pull employees that have no values in the JOB column. They can be excluded from the query.
Example of all record for one employee. I need to pull all rows of data ONLY if the employee has a value in the JOB column.
Name EE_ID JOB CAT EFF_DATE
John Doe 1006 CLERK F 01-JAN-2010 John Doe 1006 P 21-JAN-2010 John Doe 1006 CLERK P 01-FEB-2011 John Doe 1006 F 01-MAR-2011 John Doe 1006 P 01-APR-2011 John Doe 1006 CLERK F 01-JUL-2012
I need to first generate a random number between 1-4.
Then I would like to use that number to pull that many records out of the database; the records pulled can be random, or whatever.
For example, we have 4 people and my goal is to choose a random # of records to pull for each person. So, for person #1, it might only pull 1 record, then for person #3, it may pull 2 records, etc.
Ideally, it wouldn't pull the same # twice when run for that "session".
After this, I'm hoping to generate all those results into emails (eg for person 3 it would generate 3 emails, etc)
Currently it's all done manually and I think it's doable with Access.
I have some code already for generating "1" email message, but do not know how to pull X number of emails all at once. (X is the random #).

I have 2 tables with the same field names, but different data. I need to check if one person is linked to different companies. Both are linked with CompanyID. When I look for a person via the last name (field is called LastName), it should show me from both tables the rows that this person is in. how can I construct this kind of query?
P.S. I want to select all the not just a few from both tables
I'm working on a database that has to be done in Access and in coming up with a unique ID for each worker I want to take the first letter of the first and last name and the last 4 digits of their social to create the UID for the table. So for FIRST_NAME:Homer LAST_NAME:Simpson with SOCIAL:123-45-6789 his UID would be HS6789. Is there a function within Access that would allow me to do that, or is that something that's just too advanced?
I am working on a database of biological samples and test data. A problem is that many times the same subject has multiple ID's. For example, one subject may have the ID "ID234" but they previously had the ID "Sub84" or something like that. I want to be able to have 3 or 4 fields that have ID's for a subject, and I don't want a single one of them to be repeated. So I have column a, b, c, and d, and I don't want to have one record to have the same ID in column a as another record has in column d and so on. All I have been seeing is a way to make sure all of a, b, c, and d are unique combinations, but I want none of the fields to be repeated.
I've got a query that uses a key from one table to pull back records from another.
My question is...
On the table with the key there is another field that I want to use to pull back data from the same table from above.
A bit more info...
Table one holds colleagues details Table two holds records
Within table one there are 2 different fields that hold different ID's for the same colleague, currently I run two different queries to pull all data - I want to know if I can simply run one query that will return every thing?
I'm trying to have users enter multiple IDs from a table into a text box separated by newline chars, and then (once they press a button) have some sort of macro or code read each line and pull a report I've created based on the ID. Is that possible?
I have a large query that has information from accounts sorted by date, account repeat but they are always associated with a different date. I'd like to create a report where each date has it's own column with an associated field displayed as the information in the column. However, as data is added to the table I'd prefer to do it without having to make a query to filter each date each time information is added.
The information is added in bulk with all the same dates, so ALL accounts (excluding newly opened accounts that may have no information with a certain date) should have information for each date - there will not be single accounts with their own date. For example: An account numbered 12345 with data of 57% on 1/2/13, 63% on 6/2/13, and 89% on 12/2/13. I'd like each of the dates to have their own column, with the account numbers as the row and the percent data to show under the date they are associated with. how to manage this in a report, or if it is possible.
I have sort of a complex unique fields question. And I know there are probably quite a few ways to get at the answer, but I'm a novice so the simplest way would be best. I have a table (with over 25M rows, otherwise I'd be doing this in excel) with many columns. One of the columns is employee ID, and another is a date. Each employee ID however can have multiple rows with different dates. As an end product I need to have one row for each employee ID with the most recent date. An idea I had would be to sort by employee ID and then by the date. Then insert a column of if statements that asks if a record has the same employee ID as the record below it, but I don't have any experience with if statements in access (and VERY little SQL experience). But there is probably an easier way. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a database that contains sales order information. A sales order could have multiple records (if that sales order has several different items ordered) or just one record. There is a status column in each record that shows a "C" (for closed). For items that were not delivered in a particular sales order, the status column is left blank.
Here is an example:
Sales Order Item Ordered Status 908111 Coaxial Cable C 908111 Transreceiver C 908111 Connector 908112 Coaxial Cable C 908112 Transreceiver C 908112 Connector C
The above example shows that only 2 items from sales order # 908111 were delivered or "C" but one of them is not. For sales order # 908112, all items were delivered or "C". I want to take all records of sales order # 908111 and show it on a table of partially delivered and all records of sales order # 908112 in delivered table.
I've tried different filtering options and group by but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyone has any ideas?
How i would best combine values in a table to produce a 'primary key id number.'
For example: the first letter of a city in the ID and the next number available/auto number - Portsmouth -> P233
I know i can create this in a query however i want it as the unique ID for that record entry in a table. If that doesn't make sense i can try to elaborate some more.
So what is the best way to ensure the third entry is fine as whilst ready salted already exists it doesnt exist for doritos but the fourth entry would pull up a msgbox refusing the entry as it is a repeat of entry one.
Any way on a table that I can have a unique identifier over two fields? E.g.I have a login ID and a Domain field in a table with sample data below.
Login Domain
John Test Jane Test Fred Live John Live
The login names need to be unique to the domain so the integrity cannot be breached. This has to fit into one table (although the domain is actually being pulled from a look up table so is in fact a numerical value) for ease of form creation.
Firstly, my thanks to everyone who is going to be able to help with my problem, and also my apologies if this thread isn't in the right forum.
Ok, I am trying to construct a database at the moment for a small business. The database holds a number of customer records, and all of the basic design and construction I am skilled enough to write myself.
However, I'm running into major problems whilst trying to tackle a certain task...
The Required Situation
I have a form called Contacts. This form shows all of the customer details, laid out neatly, and draws its information from a table of the same name. This aspect works fine. Now what I've been asked to look into is the possibility of adding two buttons to this form. Each button, when clicked, will open a pop-up window where extra details, such as a log of received telephone calls, can be entered and searched if necessary. the two buttons should do the same thing where the code is concerned, but store their details separately (one button is for sales calls logged, the other for support calls). Now it is essential that these records are tied - uniquely - to whichever record the database user was on when they clicked the button.
My Current Thinking
I'm stumped. Well, half stumped. I think that the solution lies in sub-forms, but I'm not nearly skilled enough to actually impliment them (and don't want to waste my time doing so if there's an easier way). Currently I have two tables, contacts and calls, the former to store the customer information, the latter to store the calls that are entered on this new form. The form contacts has a button on it which opens the form calls. Now I can go to any record I like, click the button and open the calls form. I can enter details for such, and the record gets saved to my calls table. The problem is that it is not unique. No matter which record I'm on when I open the calls form, the details are always the same.
Yes, I know the absoute easiest way is to simply have a few fields on the main contacts form to log these details, and that it will uniquely tie to that record, but unfortunately that is not a practical solution. These calls may run into the hundreds, and must be easily navigated by the database users.
If I've not been clear enough, I can attach a copy of my database for you guys to take a look at, but what I'm after in the first instance is (a) whether there is an easier way to solve my problem, and, (b) if not, whether I'm right about needing subforms.
